I truthfully think I liked Electric Idol even more than I liked Neon Gods. It’s definitely a smut fest but I felt like the story was fairly strong in this one. Eros is definitely the looks like her could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll meme.
I’ve read a handful of Katee Roberts other books and this damn near felt like a slow burn in comparison. It was like 40% into the book before the spice started. Consider me shook.
Something I always appreciate in her books is the casual queerness of basically all of the characters. It’s a pretend world where it’s no big deal and everyone just is who they are. I also appreciated Psyche being a plus sized heroine and she’s a social media influencer.
I listened to the audiobook, thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for that! Slightly listening to smut in public but ya know here I am doing it anyway. The book is released next week on 1/18. I would definitely suggest checking it out. You don’t technically need to read Neon Gods first but there is some world building and character introduction that would be missed if you don’t.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of the audiobook for this. Thank you once again Dreamscape Media! !
I read this practically in one sitting. I could not get enough. Robert has really outdone herself with this one. I think I liked this more than Neon Gods! If you haven’t read that one you may want to just to understand the world better. Once again this is more of a mafia romance story than fantasy/mythology so don’t go into this expecting magical powers or creatures.
Now onto the actual review. Psyche and Eros are my new catnip. They were fantastic from their first interaction and I kept wanting more. I loved how soft Eros was for her and he was gone for her practically from the first moment. I liked how clever Psyche was. Also loved that she was a confident plus sized woman. Their relationship developed at a great pace and was completely believable. I also felt the spicy scenes weren’t rushed and were well placed. Plus they were super steamy!
The narrators were wonderful. I really enjoyed their personification of the characters and felt their voices fit the roles.
The plot was interesting, exciting and didn’t have a predictable ending. Again, pacing was really well done. Robert’s writing is addictive and enjoyable.
Would recommend if you enjoy marriage of convenience, mutual pining, forbidden romance, anti-hero, smart heroine, and spicy/steamy books.

Thanks Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC of this!

This was one of my most anticipated reads for January and it didn’t disappoint! The relationship was so hot and sweet, with the same trope of him being secretly sweet, but viewing himself as a monster, as was in the first one, which I loved. I love a fake marriage/marriage of convenience and Psyche is perfection - sweet, sexy, plus-sized, ready to fight for those she loves, and queer. I get that this pairing isn’t queer, and that we only go off her recounting of a previous unreciprocated crush, but I’m still happy to see it. Overall, I loved every minute of it and recommend it for any fans of Greek Mythology, erotic retellings, and anyone who loved the first one!

This is an erotic retelling of the Eros and Psyche myth. I don’t even know where to start with how much I loved this book! Let me just start off by saying, first and foremost, it is a love story. The sex (although ridiculously hot) is secondary to the romance between Eros & Psyche. It is also 2nd in the romance series based on Greek myths for author Katee Robert, the first novel focusing on the Hades & Persephone story.

*Thanks so much to NetGally & the publisher for the gift of this novel.*

3.5/5 ⭐️s

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review!

Plus size heroine, marriage of convenience, let’s f*ck to get it out of our systems, and a hero who’s literally contracted to kill her…Katee Robert is the queen of writing smutty romance filled with amazing tropes!

As far as the retelling goes, I went into this knowing very little about the Psyche and Eros myth, so I’m not sure how accurate this was. I can definitely say that I want more of them though, so this succeeds in getting the reader invested in their story.

I did think the plot dragged a little. The entire story takes place over a few short days, so we were given A LOT of tiny details I could’ve forgone for the sake of a more drawn out story. More time of Psyche being pissed at Eros. More time of them slowly falling into their attraction. More time of them sleeping together and refusing to recognize the feelings between them. Even more time fighting Aphrodite.

The best part of the book was the couple though, specifically watching Eros melt for Psyche like a popsicle on a hot day. I loved that all it took was her being kind to him a few times for him to be smitten! And Psyche was such a strong character. I loved how badass she was and how well she played the game.

My biggest disappointment has nothing to do with this book, really. Callisto’s story is set up and ready to be told now, but we’re not getting her book next. I’m bummed we’re pausing on the Demitriou sisters in favor of Helen’s story.

✨Audiobook Thoughts: I first read Electric Idol as an ebook before being sent the ALC, and I have to say it was even more enjoyable with these narrators! Zara Hampton-Brown’s a favorite of mine, but this was the first time I’ve listened to Alex Moorcock narrate, and I am a FAN. 😍

Overall:
Plot: 3/5
Romance: 4/5
Spice: 3.5/5

I won’t lie, I was worried this wouldn’t live up to Neon Gods because I love that book so much, but wow. I devoured this quickly and enjoyed it thoroughly. I can’t find any reason not to give this book 5 stars. Psyche and Eros are so easy to root for. I want to be Psyche’s friend so bad, she’s just the coolest. And I loved how their relationship evolved and unfolded, I was never bored. I listened to this on audio and HIGHLY recommend it; the narrators were perfect for the story.
Thanks so much to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for sending me a copy!
