Katee Robert DOES IT AGAIN!!!!
Seriously, I was unsure how this series would play out. Neon Gods was so perfect, that my expectations were beyond high. It met every single expectation and exceeded dreams I didn't even know existed. Bravo, Katee. The Pysche and Eros story was phenomenal. I am really looking forward to seeing where this series goes.

If you're a fan of dark romances, mythology, or erotica, this book is for you!
FIVE STARS

This is a bit of a departure from my usual historical romance, or occasional paranormal romance reading, (it's basically just current romance in a slightly altered world), but I was interested in the first book because I love the characters of Hades and Persephone so much, and I decided to stick with it and read the second in the series as well. (I received an advance copy of Electric Idol for reviewing purposes, but this entire review is my genuine take on it).

The previous book, Neon Gods, ended up being a bit of a mixed bag for me. There were some inconsistencies in the world building and characters, but overall I was still entertained, and liked those versions of H&P decently, so I ended up giving it 3 stars.

The story of Eros and Psyche, on the other hand, has never grabbed me the way H&P's does, the whole secret identity thing, the heroine squirreled away, the characters hardly spending time getting to know each other, jealous backstabbing sisters, Eros running away all hurt, and Psyche being gorgeous but, honestly, quite simple. But thankfully, this version tossed aside all those drawbacks. No secret identity or abduction, time spent, close sisters, Eros doesn't play drama queen, and Psyche is more human than simply being stunning, and she's savvy to boot. I actually like this version more than the original. Both main characters have been used as pawns by their parents, but they carve out some agency for themselves and give support to each other, and it made me care more about them. This version is much more interesting than the original in my opinion.

It’s not that I don’t like the story, it’s just that the male narrator’s voice just gets of my nerves and sounds too posh. The female narrator I was fine with and I loved the curvy representation. But I will be buying the e-book and reading it which was my plan anyways since katee robert is an auto buy author for me. I applied for the e-arc but did not get approved, which in the future is my preferred method.

3.5 stars

I think I was expecting a bigger plot twist or climax to the story then what we got. Overall it was just ok. I love this cover and its a better choice than the initial one with the mirror.

Narrators Alex Moorcock and Zara Hampton-Brown did a really good job. I think they were perfect for their characters.

I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Oh my gosh this was excellent! Katee Robert has done it again! I love this series so much. I thought nothing could be better than Stern Brunch Daddy Hades and Persephone in Neon Gods, but I was wrong. So wrong. Now enter Eros and Psyche. Their families are sworn enemies, and Eros is supposed to kill Psyche, not fall for her. It's the whole contract killer falling for their target trope (is that a trope?) So what's the next logical step? Marriage, of course! Marriage of convenience is one my favorite tropes and Robert does such a good job with this one. I love the dual POV as you get to see how truly enamored Eros is with Psyche way before she realizes she loves him too. There is also adventure at every turn with this one, as Robert continues to add in the romantic suspense vibes in this series. Also A+ to Robert for the plus size rep in this one and Psyche's confidence in her size being something that doesn't define her beauty.

Also, I'm beginning to think that audio is the best way to consume this series. I listened to Neon Gods on audio so when I got this ALC I was very excited to see that the narrators were the same. I mean holy crap, Robert Moorcock. Seriously, just narrate all the books I listen to forever. There's just something about these narrators that really brings the spice to this series. I'm excited to see what else Robert has in store for this series, and especially for the stories of Psyche and Persephone's other sisters.

Ok I thought I loved Neon Gods (and I do) but HOLY SMOKES did Electric Idol blow it out of the water!! The relationship between Eros and Psyche was sweet and sexy - I truly do love a grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers storyline, and this was up there with the best of them.

My one complaint with Neon Gods was the slightly lacking plot - Electric Idol was so much more plot centric for me and I loved it! And fear not, the spicy scenes were very much in the forefront still. The character growth that Eros shows throughout the book was really nice to see and the ending was so fantastic! I can't wait for the next installment of this series.

I really enjoyed the dual audiobook narration as well. Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Five stars- I cannot even properly sum up how fabulous this was. Straight off the heels of Neon Gods we have another of Demeter’s daughters, Psyche this time, getting in trouble and getting with Eros, son of Aphrodite and general naughty playboy. This book is sexy- tension drips off of the page and there will be times where you need to step away to cool down because the steam is hotter than Hades. This enemies to lovers is full of the characters you love and love to hate and is a wonderful next edition in the Dark Olympus saga!

I loved the audiobook narration- I thought the actors really captured the character and this was such a fun book.

I would recommend to anyone who enjoyed Neon Gods or the Wicked Villains series or other darker romances, enjoys morally grey characters, and is ready to be on fire with the chemistry.

I am looking forward to Wicked Beauty and Stone Heart- I love Katee Robert so much!

Thank you to Dreamscape and NetGalley for the opportunity to check this one out!

I loved the influencer aspect of this book! Super spicy everything I wanted and more after being blown away by Neon Gods. Fake dating/arranged marriage was chefs kiss. The mirror scene was so sexy I can’t even. Loved!

Neon Gods was one of my favorite reads of 2021 so I was extremely excited to receive an ALC of Electric Idol, which follows Persephone’s sister Psyche and Aphrodite’s son Eros. Getting to hear this story come to life via narration was fantastic—and I really loved both of the voice actors.

Eros and Psyche have an adorable meet-cute in the bathroom at a party for the Thirteen, and she helps him clean him up after a messy (in the bloody sense) job he took prior to the party. The two of them are seen together by the paparazzi, and Aphrodite decides that’s the hill she’s going to die on and demands that Eros kills Psyche so she doesn’t tarnish their family. Even though Psyche wouldn’t tarnish shit, but Aphrodite has a few hundred screws loose so let’s just roll with it.

Eros decides that it would be a better idea to marry Psyche, thus giving her immunity against his mother's plans. So the two embark on a very public, whirlwind romance. Eros is very cold and distant, and only begins to thaw when Psyche becomes a mainstay in his life. He becomes fully gone for her rather quickly, and there’s nothing I love more than a man willing to risk it all to simp for his lady.

I really loved that Psyche was plus-sized and absolutely owned her body, as we don't get enough of that representation in romance. Highly recommend! 4.5/5 stars.

Even though I’m a huge Katee Robert fan, I didn’t love Neon Gods (the first book in her Dark Olympus series). I knew I could put my trust in Katee though, because I ended up absolutely loving this next installment!!

Taking place after the events of Neon Gods, Electric Idol focuses on the romance between Psyche (Presephone’s sister) and Eros (Aphrodite’s son and “weapon”). While the romance and steam definitely took center stage here (as it should), this also had a good balance of suspense and darker themes that kept me invested in both the relationship and plot. Katee’s books are always so bingeable, and Electric Idol was no exception. I burned through the ALC in less that 48 hours because I literally couldn’t put it down. Eros is probably my new favorite hero from Katee Robert (which says a lot since I’ve loved so many). Despite his ruthless nature and blood stained past, Eros is such a big cinnamon roll and total softie. From the moment their paths first crossed, Eros only had eyes for Psyche and he worshiped the ground she walked on. And come on…we love a hero that worships his plus size queen. I also really enjoyed Psyche’s character. She was strong and independent, and I loved how she didn’t let other people’s perception of her get her down.

Their romance had the potential of being too insta-lovey for me considering how quickly things developed, but I ended up loving the relationship progression and thought their chemistry felt authentic.

I will say that the world building here is still super vague and I don’t fully understand it, but for whatever reason it didn’t bother me as much here as it did in Neon Gods.

All in all, this was a great installment to the Dark Olympus series and I’m already itching for future books. Which speaking of…can we talk about how book 3 is Helen x Achilles x Patroclus? I’m DEAD.

Also, the audiobook was 10/10 ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. This was my first experience with these two narrators (Zara Hampton-Brown & Alex Moorcock) and I thought they did an absolutely stellar job. The audiobook would definitely be a good way to go if your looking to pick this book up.

I enjoyed this, although personally I liked the relationship dynamic in Neon Gods better. Electric Idol loosely retells the story of Psyche and Eros as an erotic romance set in a modern city, where our Psyche is a confident, bisexual fat woman (love that part of this book!) and Eros is his narcissistic mother's fixer. We get more of the city politics in this book, and it sets us up for going in some interesting directions with the series.

Eros is a bit possessive for my taste, and I don't love the audio narrator who did his chapters, so that might have affected my experience. On the other hand I really like Psyche (and the narrator who does her chapters). Their romance was perfectly fine, but it didn't hit for me in the way Neon Gods did. Your experience may vary. I received an audio review copy of this book via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.

Having read the first one, I was so happy to be able to read this one early. It did not disappoint. The smut, the romance, the mythological retelling was just as good as the first one. The characters were relatable, the plot was modern and the narration was top notch. I will definitely be ready for the next one in the series. Can't wait!

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would, especially after not loving Neon Gods! I knew I was going to pick it up anyway since the MC is fat. I can't help myself when that's the case lol. I think I enjoyed it more in part because I listened to the audiobook. The voice acting was really well done and and made the emotions feel more realistic than overdone - good when characters are falling in love over the course of one week lol.

Liked:
1. More world-building allowing readers to understand the positions of The 13 - who they are, what they do, and where they stand in relation to each other.

2. Fat MC who isn't worried about being fat - Psyche speaks about overcoming her internalized fatphobia (in different words), self-love, confidence, and not caring about the criticism from others.

3. Psyche has a job and a life and we actually know about it - granted she's a social media influencer but in Neon Gods we just knew Persephone wanted to get her Master's Degree (in what???).

4. I thought the ending was adorable and I hope we get to continue peaking back into the lives from previous books.

Any dislikes I have for this book are more personal preference. I don't adore insta-love, I always want plus size bodies to get more appreciation in these romances (it's a lot of "she has great tits and ass...), it's not exactly kinky (I genuinely thought they were all gonna be but I may have been confused), I wanted him to seduce her lol, and I still want MORE world-building!

I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys mythology retellings, spicy romance, or marriage of convenience trope.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for my ALC!

Dare I say, this one was better than Neon Gods?

Eros and Psyche feel much more fleshed out and there’s more overarching plot throughout the book that sticks with you where in the first book (which I also loved) it felt like the plot was a set of bookends on either side of the smut, this book encorperated it better.

Also its a marriage of convenience, he’d hut anyone who looks at her wrong, our main character is a plus sized influencer, and they discuss their trauma....honestly what else do you want in a book?

Also some fun with mirrors :) just something to look forward to...

Yessssss! Yessss! Yessssssss! I loved this book so much!. I completely devoured this book in one day. It was hot, hot, hot with an interesting storyline and a palpable connection between the hero and heroine. I loved how in love Eros was. I also loved that she was a plus size heroine and he loved every bit of her curvy body. He was all about protecting her the minute he slipped the ring on her finger. This book was well written with great conflict. I had a blast jumping into this world for a little while. I can not wait until the next book. Huge thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me an audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dear lawwwwwd, this book was excellent. Electric Idol is a spicy, modern spin on the love story between Psyche and Eros. I recently read Neon Gods and liked it but Electric Idol blew me away. Besides the spice, my favorite part of this book was character development between Psyche and Eros. Psyche is a plus-sized social media influencer with the kindest heart. Eros believes himself to be a monster and incapable of love. Their relationship dynamic was addicting to read and it was only elevated by them entering a marriage of convenience. It's the pinnacle of fake dating (my favorite trope)!!!

I loved how this book embodied the myth of Psyche and Eros' love story compared to Persephone and Hades' story in Neon Gods. I left the book feeling like I had a better understanding of the world and the politics in Olympus. That element was missing from Neon Gods so I was glad to see more world building included in this installment. Alex Moorcock & Zara Hampton-Brown were incredible narrators. Their voices complemented each other very well. Listening to the audiobook delivered an extra steamy experience (please reference chapters 18 & 19).

The romance between Psyche and Eros was perfectly paced. I swear the tension was palpable when Psyche and Eros met for the first time. It's almost like Eros fell on his own arrow and immediately fell in love. *wink wink* When Psyche and Eros finally slept together, it felt so earned. I seriously wish I could read another book about them. But alas, I cannot. In the meantime, I will be looking forward to Wicked Beauty's release in June 2022!

I received a free digital ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I requested to read Electric Idol by Katee Roberts as I was a huge fan of Neon Gods in 2021 and it was one of my top books of the year. I was a little apprehensive reading a second in the series as I was happy with the ending of the first book and was unsure if the world needed a sequel.

However…it was amazing!

Eros works as the enforcer for his mother, Aphrodite in the mafia like world of Olympus. This role has made him feel like a monster and unworthy of good things in his life. He meets Psyche when she assists him in a time of need and is photographed doing so, much to the annoyance of Aphrodite who calls for her heart on a platter. To protect her he decides to marry her to keep her safe.

I loved all the character development both Eros and Psyche go through in this book, whilst it is not quite as steamy as the first book in this series the plotline may be stronger for it. Katee Roberts has done a great job at creating a fantasy romance world with characters who actually feel real. If you are not a reader of fantasy romance this would also appeal to lovers of Mafia romance books and other dark romances as the fantasy elements support the characters rather than that being the whole story.

I highly recommend this series be read in order but they could potentially be read as standalones though you would miss out on some of the world building elements. I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series to arrive!

I was so happy to dive back into the World Of Olympus! Book 2 is Psyche and Eros. Aphrodite wants Eros to bring her Psyche’s heart but Eros can’t bring himself to go through with it. His solution is a marriage of convenience to keep Psyche safe.

Marriage of convenience✅
Mutual attraction / CHEMISTRY🔥🥵✅
Plus size rep✅ LGBTQIA+ rep✅

I loved Psyche and Eros🔥🥵Eros - sir!🔥 Can I just say….my god the mirrors - IYKYK😏

I loved this book so much! I can’t wait for Wicked Beauty!

Electric Idol by Katee Robert
2nd book in the Dark Olympus series. Paranormal romance. Can be read as a stand-alone. High heat level.
Psyche and Eros. They’ve know each other for years of society parties. Never really getting close, but aware of the other’s presence. After getting caught by the press in a rather innocent but compromising photo, they create an illusion to save her life. The 13 rule the world and Psyche and Eros will do what they must to survive. Good thing their attraction is off the charts hot for each other. Maybe they will survive.

Typically I don’t enjoy a mythological world of confusing Gods with multiple names and attributes but the author focuses here 90% on the couple, and their reactions to each other, rather than the world itself. Psyche and Eros are incredibly hot and steamy together. It starts out as just a front to their world but soon the two are deeply involved and emotionally entangled. I loved that their main concern was for the other. So swoony.
This was my second book by this author. Both were high emotions and high heat with deep love by the end.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version narrated by Zara Hampton-Brown and Alex Moorcock. The two alternated POV chapters and did multiple voices. I preferred the female narrator because I think she did a better job of distinguishing between voices, both male and female. Both projected emotions with drama and heat and made the performance engaging.
I listened to the first few chapters at 1.0 to get the full resonance of the voices but moved to 1.5 afterwards for my normal talking speed. I don’t feel that I lost any integrity at the higher speed.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media.

I’ll preface this by saying that I’m a die-hard Hades fan and Neon Gods was one of my favorite books of 2021. But…..Eros! 😍🥵😍🥵😍 I need more than 5 stars for Electric Idol! The tension, the 🔥🔥🔥, the love. This is definitely going on my (very short) favorite of all time list! And the narrators were perfect! They were able to convey not just the idea of the characters but what they were feeling as well. I can’t wait for book 3 but not sure any can compare to Eros & Psyche!
