Loved this contemporary twist to a greek mythology retelling! And I absolutely loved the narrators!

- Fat positive
- Greek mythology
- Marriage of convenience
- Hates everyone but her
- Dual POV with M & F narrators for the audiobook

This is a Psyche and Eros retelling. Katee Roberts did an amazing job with adding the contemporary twist and including plus-size representation. I absolutely LOVED that Psyche was a fat, successful woman! I mean she was incredible throughout the book, especially as an influencer. There were also some grumpy/ sunshine vibes, which was so cute! Eros was just a dark cloud with how he was raised and treated by his mother. With Psyche, he can finally have some happiness.

The audiobook was amazing!!! I loved that they used male and female narrators to tell the two POVs. Both narrators did a really great job with acting out various scenes. It made the experience that much more enjoyable.

A super steamy, dual perspective reimagining of the Greek myth of Psyche and Eros. I wasn't a huge fan of the first book in this series but I really loved this fake relationship, forced proximity romance between a plus-sized Psyche and Eros, the man sent to kill her. Full of dark society politics and intrigue, this book was highly entertaining and hard to put down. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrators but overall this was a big win for me. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy!

Really enjoyed Katee's take on Psyche and Eros. They are one of my favorite Greek mythology couples and I was so happy to see them in this series!

Loved that Psyche was a gorgeous plus size heroine and that Eros was alllll about her beautiful body. Thus couple had great chemistry and a beautiful emotional connection too. I also really enjoyed the snow whits/huntsman spin on this story too.

Loved it and very much looking forward to the next.

My headphones were burning-up with the sizzle that was crackling through the airwaves with Electric Idol - Dark Olympus #2. The dueling audio between the characters was tantalizing, especially with Eros's narrator Alex Moorcock. Yes, I am fanning myself! PHEW

This Greek Mythology retelling had ALL things I enjoy in a read:

Enemies to lovers.
Lustfulness!
A brooding, tall, dark & handsome male lead.
A strong female character who embraces her plus size sexiness.
And, off-the charts chemistry.

Electronic Idol can be read as a stand-alone in the series. I throughly enjoyed Eros and Psyche love story. It is engaging, steamy and irresistible as you witness their fondness for each other grow. Now, to go back and listen to book #1, so I prepared when book #3 arrives later in 2022.

Thank you Dreamscape Media for the audio copy of the Electric Idol.

I listened to an audiobook arc of this book and it was done so well. Both narrators did a fantastic job with their own characters and the rest of the cast. They definitely helped bring the story to life even more and I’d recommend going this route if you’re unsure which format you want to read it!

As for the story, I loved every second of it. Psyche and Eros quickly became new favourite characters of all time. Psyche is just such a sweet soul with a core of fire, I admired the fact that she is so willing to help others but at the same time, she won’t let people walk all over her. She’s amazing!

As for Eros, he’s just so cute. He’s fine with murder but internet trolls? Absolutely not. Anyone who so much as breathed wrong in Psyche’s direction had him willing to throw down and it was the best. He became so smitten for her immediately, I loved it.

There were so many good tropes in here— marriage of convenience, forced proximity, “let’s fuck so it looks like we’re actually together” and the smut? Wonderful. Love a good mirror scene!

Overall, this was just such a joy. Katee’s take on these Greek myths is so fun because you honestly have no idea where things will turn. I’m excited to read more from the Dark Olympus series in the future! Check out Electric Idol and Neon Gods in the meantime! You won’t regret it, I promise!

5/5⭐️

Loved this book so much and I even loved it more than the first which has Hades as the MC and Hades has always been my favorite Greek mythology character!

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks, Dreamscape Media, and Netgalley for providing an ALC. All thoughts and opinions are still my own.

Oof... this review hurts to write. I absolutely adore Katee Robert and her romances are usually a guaranteed hit for me. But this one just didn't work for me at all.

First of all, the pacing of this romance... was a mess. The first 50% of this book takes place within less than 24 hours. Which was way too many pages for such a short time period and it made for such an odd experience. Because their emotions and feelings were moving at rapid fire pace, but the plot was utterly stagnant.

Second, there is no plot. But not in a all-the-focus-is-on-the-steamy-romance way. Instead we just follow the main characters while they discuss the political maneuverings of the world while they pick out wedding clothes for 200 pages.

And three, the plot that does exist makes no sense. The entire premise of this book is based on Eros deciding that the ONLY way to save Psyche from death is marrying her. And I, for the life of me, cannot figure out why. Why was this a logical jump? [And the frustrating cherry on top is that in the end it doesn't make logical sense. Aphrodite even asks why they thought that would stop anything. (hide spoiler)].

This book felt like it was meant to act as a world builder. We got so much discussion about everyone's roles in Olympus and how they're connected and what their political strategies are. But without any real plot to ground myself in, I just found I didn't care about any of it. And with a romance that lacked development on top of it, I was left feeling really disappointed all around.

I binged this in less than a day! It was quick-paced, gripping, and of course steamy. I was addicted from the start. I am really into mythology retellings and recently really into modern retellings but this is the first I've ever read about Eros or Psyche and I am definitely a big fan now. I enjoyed the inclusion of the other gods and goddesses and the exclusivity of the higher "ranking" families. This gave me mafia vibes, and I am here for it. Psyche felt very relatable and it was neat to see that she wasn't completely insecure but she wasn't completely immune to everything either. I also greatly appreciated that the MCs were older and that Psyche didn't fit the norm that a lot of our women MCs fall under. It was neat to see their shields come down as they opened up to each other and the character growth that came with it. I didn't think the drama at the end was all that big of a plot twist or a big revelation but it was a nice addition. The epilogue, however, GOLD. And the steam, wooo, I thought I was ready but I was not. This book does not disappoint.

I enjoyed the narrators a lot and felt they did a good job of giving the characters a real feel and delivering their thoughts and feelings was done really well.

Psyche has lived her life maneuvering the hierarchy that exists in the city of Olympus where its common to marry for power and connections. Although she knows this, she has no intention of being part of it no matter her mother's insistence. Eros is the dangerous son of Aphrodite and someone Psyche should avoid. Aphrodite's jealous rage is something Psyche knew she would come to head with someday. A night out has the two crossing paths and although they couldn't be more different, they're taken by surprise at just who the other truly is. A potential scandal has them entering an agreement together. She made this deal to protect herself but she is drawn to Eros in a way she shouldn't be. This arrangement is meant to keep Psyche safe from Aphrodite's wrath, but is she truly safe?

tropes: marriage of convenience, fake dating/marriage, enemies-to-lovers

Thank you Netgalley for early access to this one!

Wow! Like all of Katee Robert's books, this one is full of passion, intrigue, and emotion. Psyche and Eros are a great addition to the world of Olympus, although we met Psyche in the first book. The scheming continues! The audiobook is wonderful and the narrators do a great job bringing these characters to life. I didn't necessarily see the characters as having english accents, but it didn't detract from the story. I read book 1 so listening to book 2 was a nice change. This one is definitely NSFW. The mirror scene....good lord. Whew. That one will stick with me for a while. I love how Katee's characters aren't shy about loving sex. It's refreshing. I cannot wait for the next story in this series. Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for allowing me to review this book.

I continue to devour everything Katee Robert writes. And now I just need Robert Moorcock to narrate all of her words. He adds the perfect elements to her simps. I just adore this series so much and the audiobooks add so much to the reading experience.

These are must read, must listen.

First off, I want to say that I adored everything about Neon Gods and rated it 5 stars. As soon as I finished it I could not wait until Electric Idol released.

Now, I really enjoyed the plot of Electric Idol. If you loved Neon Gods, you will love the sequel. This author has a way of writing that just sucks me into the plot and has added smut for our enjoyment ;). I’m addicted to these Greek Mythology retellings, and I can’t wait to read more from this author. The only complaint I have, and I almost rated it 3 star for this reason, is that I think the narrators were a bad choice for this novel. The accents threw me off, and the voices were just very unsexy which is awkward when there is so much smut in the novel. The thing that really disturbed me was the woman imitating the man’s voice during sex scenes and it made me physically cringe. I know if I read this book myself it would be 5 star, but since I listened to the audio I have to take my rating down a bit.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! I loved Psyche so, so, so much. She is so open and caring, but still so incredibly clever and strong. I love how she truly saw Eros. I love Eros and how complex he is. The situations he’s been put into and the way he sees himself makes me cry. He deserved better in his life. The love they have for each other was so sweet (and SPICY!!!) As much as I loved Hades and Persephone in Neon Gods, Psyche and Eros have them beat.

I’m such a sucker for anything with an “I’m supposed to kill you” trope, a (steamy) marriage of convenience, or political scheming, so obviously this book was right up my alley. The world building of this series is so interesting. This book went into more detail about the politics of the world, but I would love to learn more! I hope any future Dark Olympus books talk about it more. I would love to see Callisto’s story soon!

Thank you Dreamscape Media for sending me an ALC!

First off, I will say I started this one and thought "what the heck have I gotten myself into?" and then the further into it I couldn't stop and it was an AHHH moment when I said to myself, "Now I get it!" and really couldn't stop. This is a retelling of Olympus and the Gods in current time as gangsters and mobsters. Oh the joy! It was so much fun. The only drawback for me is I missed the first book in this series but will just have to go back and grab it and will be on the watch for the rest. I'm not going to tell you anything about this book except GO GRAB THIS ONE!

Rating: 4.5/5
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Warnings: toxic parental relationships, violence, fat phobia
Read if you liked: Neon Gods + A Worthy Opponent
Steam: 4/5
Tropes: marriage of convenience, forced proximity, fake dating/marriage, family ties

Thank you to Dreamspace Media and Netgalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. Electric Idol will be released on 1/18/22.

WHO ALLOWED THIS BOOK TO BE THIS GOOD? Okay, now for my expanded review because I have MANY FEELINGS. Look, when I first read Neon Gods, I did not think I would love it as much as I did but truly I have become obsessed with the worlds Katee Robert creates and her beautifully broken characters she writes. So please know my excitement about reading Electric Idol was real. And it was better than the hype I had in my head.

Things I loved: I loved Pysche's plus size representation and how she OWNED it. I loved the relationship she had with her sisters. The tension and angst between Pysche and Eros was palpable. They shared a level of vulnerability with one another that was so raw...which really added to the steam. Eros just adores Pysche, he worships here and we are here for it. But also, I just loved Eros' journey to experiencing love after his whole life of one toxic mother. I loved the ending, honestly it made me so happy for the two of them.

Things I didn't care for: I am not a big audio reader for fiction and I do think the narrators were not the best for this story...but I loved the story!

Please give me the next book ASAP...I need more Dark Olympus books.

Another book and another couple in the Dark Olympus series to fall in love with. I love modern retellings of ancient greek stories and I find the Dark Olympus world so interesting, as well as the people in it. I did listen to this as an audiobook and I loved the narration, especially the accents!

Psyche and Eros have not had much interaction, even though their mother’s are both apart of the thirteen members that rule the city of Olympus. When Psyche helps Eros during an event and it turns into the newest gossip around town, their lives will unknowingly change. Aphrodite hates the news of her son and her enemy’s daughter being seen together so she comes up with a plan; her son needs to bring her Psyche’s heart.

Eros has always been his mother’s “enforcer” and is used to doing her dirty work. When he hears of this new plan, he for once is weary of his mother’s task and isn’t sure what to make of his feelings. When the night of Psyche’s planned end comes, he realizes he cannot go through with it. So Eros hatches a plan of his own- to marry Psyche in order to protect her from his mother. Psyche agrees out of fear for her life and thus begins their story.

Psyche is very hesitant around Eros, as she knows he was initially set out to kill her. She knows both of their parents, as well as her sisters, will be upset and confused about her sudden nuptials. When Aphrodite makes it clear that she is still vying for her heart even after their wedding, Eros and Psyche know they need to work as a team to save her. As they make public appearances and fake affection to put focus on their wedding, they both realize they may have feelings beyond simple kinship. They both keep these feelings hidden of course and just play into their fake marriage, even on the physical aspect. Psyche’s life continues to be threatened and Eros feels such a strong responsibility to save his new wife from his mother.

I really enjoyed both Ero’s and Psyche’s personalities. Eros has never been shown much affection by his mother and doesn’t keep a whole lot of people close to him due to this. He has pretty negative views about himself as a person that keeps him from believing Psyche could want him. Psyche works to show him he isn’t the horrible person he thinks he is. When he realizes his feelings for Psyche, he really works hard to make her happy and he is very sweet.

I liked that Psyche does not let people’s negative words affect her and she is mostly confident in herself, even when she isn’t the typical body type in Olympus. She is definitely hesitant to ever believe Eros could develop real feelings for her and because of this she keeps herself very guarded. Both Psyche and Eros work hard to protect the people they care about and will go to any extreme for those in their close circles.

This story is pretty fast paced, as it only occurs over a very short period of time. They both fall very quickly and although it definitely doesn’t feel like insta-love due to the impending chance of death. I liked that this book was more plot driven compared to Katee’s novella’s which are heavily focused on spice scenes- not that I dislike those, but I also enjoyed the plot of this book in addiction to it’s spice. I also enjoyed the appearances of Hades and Persephone, even though Hades was his usual broody self.

Electric Idol was my favorite of the two books so far in the Dark Olympus series. I felt that in Neon Gods Hades and Persephone’s relationship was so rushed and instant love. It wasn’t horrible but I didn’t see the hype. However, Electric Idol surprised me. Some of my favorite book tropes such as marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers are in this book. I really enjoyed the character of Psyche. She is a confident main character. I like how she defies some of the book norms. Psyche is plus size and she has to form a bond or relationship before rushing into sexual relationships. These are things I don’t often see in more spicy books. Eros was a character I slowly came to like. He wants to break from his roles and Psyche is the way to that. This definitely was not an instant love. They did have an attraction but not love. Overall an enjoyable story,

The second book in the Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series definitely does not disappoint! Neon Gods blew up on the internet last summer when it was released and I totally got the hype. I was so excited to receive an advanced copy of the audiobook of Electric Idol, book two in the series, and it was another smashing hit. Electric Idol is a modern retelling of the Greek myths of Psyche and Eros. This book is heavy on the politics of Olympus, an upper crust ultra-elite society where politics and image are key, and the steam between Psyche and Eros as these two fall in love. What starts as a marriage of convenience quickly becomes a scorching romance between two people who are desperately in love but too afraid to admit it. In a world where image is everything and Psyche and Eros are from antagonistic families, their romance seems unlikely at best. This book was a true delight to listen to-- I loved the story and the narration really made it come alive! I am super excited to return to the hi-jinx of Olympus in the next book of the series, Wicked Beauty, a modern take on the myths of Helen of Troy and Achilles. For now, I highly recommend Electric Idol be added to your romance tbr if you enjoy modern retellings, Romeo and Juliet, and Gossip Girl!

🔊Song Pairing: Stupid Cupid - Mandy Moore
Iykyk 😂😂

💭What I thought would happen:

I was promised that Eros would be my new book boyfriend…check

📖What actually happens:

Psyche is the ultimate influencer on body positivity and fabulous lifestyle guru of Olympus, loved by many but despised by Aphrodite…who has commanded that Eros rip out Psyche’s heart.

Eros does the exact opposite and marries Psyche behind his mother’s back to keep her safe. Now Psyche and Eros are fake married and are trying to convince all of the gods that they are truly in love…the problem…they may actually have heart eyes for one another 😍

🗯Thoughts:

This book is hotter than a witch’s tit. I stole that from the book. 😂 This book has everything: sex, body positivity, spitefulness, jealousy, scandal, spice and everything nice! Can I live in this world?

I would give my right earlobe to see these books turned into a tv series. I think it would make for excellent on screen drama and spice!

Buckle up for a steamy read. Do not listen or read while others are around. I was listening and Jameson came home at a particularly raunchy part and asked if I just casually listened to porn when he was away 🤪

I honestly don’t even know whose relationship I like more Persephone and Hades or Psyche and Eros…let’s get serious…it’s Hades forever and always. I cannot say no to a grumpus!

You don’t have to read Neon Gods before reading this one but I would highly recommend that you read them in order!
