I was so grateful to the publisher for an advance copy of the Electric Idol audiobook. I love Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series, and the dual narration for the characters of Eros and Psyche truly elevated the listening experience. Alex Moorcock.and Zara Hamptom-Brown are both wonderful narrators, and together, they brought Electric Idol and all of Olympus to life.

Electric Idol, which is a modern reimagining of the myth of Psyche and Eros, is one part star-crossed lover, one part marriage of convenience, and one part pure heat. It all adds up to a scorching hot, gods-damn delight. Robert has a true knack for creating compelling contemporary counterparts to the ancient deities--with all their foibles and vendettas and penchant for drama. They feel modern and classic, all at once. Katie's unique spin on the Greek mythos is just *chefs kiss.*

If you loved Neon Gods, Electric Idol will not disappoint.

I didn’t think I could like a book more than Neon Gods, but Electric Idol proved me wrong!

Psyche has offended Aphrodite, and Eros is sent by his mother to do her dirty work. When Eros is sent to kill Psyche, he hesitates as Psyche has shown him kindness in the past. He knows that nothing can stop his mother, except if Psyche was one of the family, so he proposes marriage as the solution to the problem. Psyche agrees, but neither is prepared for just how real the marriage will feel.

This story of Psyche and Eros was amazing! It had body positivity, a tragically flawed hero, and a strong, independent, and brilliant heroine. Plus it had all the amazing spice that Katee Roberts is known for. I’m officially obsessed with this series now, and I can’t wait for the next installment! I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrators. The story is told from the point of view of both Psyche and Eros, and each of their narrators did the characters total justice. If you are a fan of Katee Roberts. If you love the mythology of the Greek gods, or if you’re looking for a spicy book full of political intrigue, you must read this book!

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Y’all.
I think I loved this even more than Neon Gods, and that says SO MUCH, because I adored that one.
But this?
Eros has stolen my whole heart, and I honestly don’t think I’ll be getting it back anytime soon.
I also gotta give KR a HUGE round of applause, because Psyche really did give me a realistic portrayal of a plus size girl, and I appreciated that so much, especially since I’m plus size myself. I saw my own struggles, but also my own triumphs and I felt right at home.
In the midst of all of these feelings, the other thing that featured predominantly was the found family aspect, and that has me in a chokehold on a regular day, but it was so good to see it here in as many forms as it featured.

I listened to the audiobook, and these narrators gave these characters life. Just absolute perfection.

ELECTRIC IDOL is a fun, fast-paced follow-up to Katee Robert’s NEON GODS. I know nothing about Eros and Psyche in traditional Greek mythology, but I had a BLAST reading Robert’s version of this couple’s story.

This series can only be described as urban contemporary Greek mythology fan fiction, and I mean that in a good way. ELECTRIC IDOL is sexy, swoony, and character-driven. Though a stand-alone sequel to NEON GODS, I do think those who have read Book 1 will have a better understanding of the world-building and Robert’s modern version of Olympus.

If you are interested in any of the following, ELECTRIC IDOL may be a great read for you:
-A fat, sexy influencer heroine who loves fashion
-A sad boy hero with mommy issues, who reluctantly learns how to (fall in) love
-A great cast of side characters who will appear in other books
-Politics but make it conniving and sexy
-Casual queerness and a world without homophobia and slut shaming
-Steamy sexy times (with mirrors)
-Modern retellings of Greek mythology

I cannot wait to read more books in this world! The Dark Olympus series is not the most substantial, thought-provoking literature, but gods dammit (pun intended) these books are so fun!

Anyone who knows me, knows that the myth of Cupid and Psyche is my favorite myth. I was HERE for this book, knowing they are the main characters. And after loving Neon Gods, I was even more excited.

Though, I am just a little disappointed, I won't lie.

In the myth, Psyche is so beautiful that Aphrodite wants her dead. In this book, it is mentioned (more than once) that she is nothin special, and that people don't think she's attractive. Which is fine, I know that the author has the liberty to make changes to the source material, but it felt weird. Making jabs at her appearance, that she "isn't much to look at," and fat-shaming Psyche rubbed me the wrong way.

I did enjoy the rest of the book, though it is not nearly as steamy as I had expected after reading 8 or 9 other Katee Robert books.

TLDR: READ THIS BOOK. The way this story had a chokehold on me is no joke. I loved the writing, the characters, the twist with modern mythology, and of course amazing spice!

Full Non-Spoiler Review:

Aros and Psyche's relationship is one that I am still invested in emotionally. I'm sad that the book is over and I don't get more time with them. I loved the way they complimented each other. How Psyche helped Aros grow throughout their story was beautiful. She was so badass while also being extremely kind a caring.

Being invested in them as characters so much also made the spice that much more enjoyable. I always have more fun when it's deserved within the story. And with Psyche and Aros, it's ALL very much deserved! 😏

The ending had me on the edge of my seat wondering where we were going and I was so satisfied by where it went.

If you loved Neon Gods, you'll love Electric Idol!

If you liked the first book in the series you'll like this one! This was entertaining., and The spice is perfect! And it has a very sweet ending.

I've been waiting for this book for months! While I still think that I prefer Neon Gods over this one, Electric Idol has absolutely amazing plus size representation! And I definitely enjoyed being back in this world again. I'm excited for the rest of the series!

This book is fine! I loved the fat rep, but I mostly thought the story was weirdly slow and boring for being as murdery as it is. This felt neither as fast paced nor as sexy as I'm used to from Katee Robert. I was expecting a much more feral, much more psychopathic hero with a huge morality chain component, but Eros is really aware of his crimes and wants to be better. However, I actually did like Psyche a lot! The marriage of convenience angle actually made very little sense to me from jump (and then that very little sense plays out in the book). I am in the tiny minority of folks who really didn't like Neon Gods, and I just think this series (being trad pubbed and now getting the acclaim it is) isn't really the Katee Robert for me.

The audio performers were great, but I do still think it’s really weird that they’re British, and I think their performance contributed to the slow pace.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape for the ALC.

CW: Murder, body shaming, abuse (emotional, financial), gun on page

I absolutely love this series. This book is equal parts fun, sexy, and thrilling. Fans of the first book will find familiar comfort in falling back into this series and being with these characters, but I also think that this book holds up as a standalone for those who want to start here. Katee Robert does a great job letting the reader in on what happened in the previous book.

The narration was absolute perfection. I love that we had two narrators for both POVs, which really added to the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this early! I can't wait to recommend it.

I’m officially obsessed with the Dark Olympus series! I thought I loved Neon Gods and then came Electric Idol and it might have knocked it out of first place — but honestly I don’t think I can pick. I loved every second of this book. From Eros being the grump to Psyche’s sunshine to all the sweet romantic moments and the whirlwind marriage of convenience. I was terrified of anything tearing this couple apart, even themselves but I’ve gotta hand it to Katee Robert as she tied this story up in a perfect HEA knot! Highly highly recommend checking out this book when it releases on January 18th, 2022! And if you haven’t read Neon Gods definitely read it first to enjoy all the Persephone and Hades moments throughout this book!

I was gratefully given the audiobook to review by Net Galley and Dreamscape Media and I absolutely loved the two narrators — also loved using two narrators for the dual points of view we get in this novel! Genius! So thank you to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for another five star read!

I liked the first book, Neon Gods, and I was looking forward to Electric Idol. I really enjoyed the author's interpretation of Eros and Psyche. I also find marriage of convenience stories to be quite fun and this was no different.

I really liked Psyche. She's a plus sized influence who is tough, intelligent, and has a heart of gold. The most interesting part, to me, are the dynamics of Olympus' high society.

I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

The narration was fantastic. I loved both Alex Moorcock & Zara Hampton-Brown performances. Their voices were perfect and complimented each other well.

I've come to the conclusion that this series is just all vibes, and I am 100% on board with that. Katee Robert is one of my favourite romance authors, and this series just keeps getting better and better!

'Electric Idol" is a loose retelling of Psyche & Eros. it features a marriage of convenience, queer mcs and a pining hero. I basically binge read this in one sitting after getting the approval notification, the narrators were absolutely phenomenal and really brought the story to life!

Overall, my excitement for Wicked Beauty is barely contained, I can't wait to read more from this additive series!

Though I found this story to be pretty average, I had fun reading it! I don't know much about Greek mythology so I can't speak to the mythological accuracy of the book, however I really enjoyed this retelling; my lack of knowledge probably brought me into the book with lower expectations, which might have made the story more enjoyable for me.

I did think the writing quality was very average--a lot of telling, not showing, and a lot of repetition of certain phrases (take a shot every time Roberts said "in the extreme") which made the story less enjoyable.

I read this in conjunction with the audiobook, and I really enjoyed the narration. I would definitely say I enjoyed the story more when I was listening to it rather than just reading the ebook, which is a testament to how good the narrators were. They both had British accents, and spoke really cleanly with dictation that was good voice acting without getting gratuitous which was great!

Overall, the book was pretty average, but if you enjoy Greek mythology you might really like this one!!

The most hot (read: sexy, steamy, filthy) take on the Greek classics *fans self*... I've listened to Alex Moorcock & Zara Hampton-Brown's narration of Neon Gods and boy-oh-boy, their voices are absolutely perfect for this kind of book - totally sultry and sensuous. It just adds to the sexual tension. Electric Idol is even steamier than Neon Gods in my opinion, so have your ice water and fan ready, because this one is hot.

Chalk another one up for the misunderstood villain. After Neon Gods’ retelling of Hades and Persephone, Electric Idol takes on Eros and Pysche, the second of Demeter’s daughters. Eros is Olympus’s quintessential bad boy, in more ways than one. He’s quite the playboy but more importantly, he’s his mother’s weapon of choice against her enemies. A moment of kindness between Eros and Pysche, captured in a photo at one of Zeus’s parties, leads Aphrodite to give Eros an order: bring her Pysche’s heart. Literally. When Eros arranges a meeting with Psyche meant to follow through on Aphrodite’s order, he can’t bring himself to harm her. Realizing that if he doesn’t do it, someone else will, they decide their only course of action to keep her safe is to get married. As quickly as possible. Between fighting their quickly growing attraction to each other, faking their torrid love affair to the public, and keeping one step ahead of Aphrodite and her revenge at being foiled, the pair have quite their work cut out for them just to stay alive.

Thank you Dreamsccape Media and NetGalley for the advanced copy... this was the perfect binge listen for a freezing cold winter day.

To say I threw down everything I was reading to listen to this as fast as I could would be an understatement. Honestly, I came for the spice in her first in this series and came back for more, and boy did she deliver. Electric Idol focuses on Psyche and Eros in a forbidden romance style book. Psyche is genuinely kind in a world where that is rare, Eros is literally his mother’s weapon of destruction. The pair these two make is sweet beyond compare though. I say sweet even though the words used in this book are NOT! Be warned the spice is high and the romance is just as good!

This is the second book in the dark olympic series and it was just as good as the first book! You don't need to read the first to understand this one as long as you have a basic knowledge of Greek mythology. However, the first book is amazing so I would definitely suggest reading it! In this book we learn of the relationship between Psyche and Eros. Their mothers have always been at war with each other so finding out their children were getting married starts to turn Olympus upside down. We learn more about the other 13 and their children and the politics in Olympis. This audiobook was amazing and the narrators were awesome. I loved this book and the story behind it!

There were a ton of things that I enjoyed, didn't enjoy, and just generally noticed in this book that I was originally going to add to this review, but by the time I got to the last quarter of it, I wasn't thinking about any of them anymore, so I'm just going to discuss my main takeaway from this book instead. Although this book has more of a concrete plot than Neon Gods, less smut, and more inclusions of popular tropes, it felt eons longer. I can't pinpoint why, but it felt painfully long. The first bit felt like your classic slow burn, but then after that for the majority of the book the couple was together and just mentioning rather than facing or prepping for the future conflict, so the middle section of this book was really just 200 pages of smut and filler. Neon Gods caught me off guard when I read it, surprising me with the consideration shown in it's writing, and I'm a bigger fan of the myth of Eros and Psyche than I am of Hades and Persephone, so I had high hopes for this, but honestly now that I've finished it the only thought going through my head is "finally". I feel the need to clarify at the end of this downer of a review, it's not a bad book, there is genuinely a lot of good to it, like the Eros so obviously pining for and protecting Psyche, and the plus size representation, but for me at least, all of that was overshadowed by the pacing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another great addition to the Dark Olympus series! I really enjoyed this story that centers around Pysche and Eros - a forced marriage to save Pysche, I loved watching their lust grow into love. This book ends with a found-family element too, which I am always such a sucker for. While this story overall did not have a strong plot, I really enjoyed the characters and seeing more of the political plotting happening within Olympus.

Rating: 4 stars!

Electric Idol is everything I hoped for in a Cupid and Psyche retelling. Eros isn't a god of love in this world, but a killer for Aphrodite, but when Aphrodite commands him to take Psyche's heart, he decides there's a different way to save Psyche, who has never been anything but kind to him. I loved their relationship through the fake marriage and dealing with Aphrodite, to the way the Dark Olympus world continues to expand. I can't wait to read more in this series.
