This psychological domestic thriller gives off some very atmospheric, creepy vibes and I was so here for it. This was my first novel from Keri Beevis and I really enjoyed her style of writing. She makes you really question all of the characters and there is nothing I love more than an unreliable narrator. I enjoyed the actual narrator as well and thought she did a great job voicing the multiple POVS. She really managed to make sure the creepiness came through in her voice. I listened to this mainly on my commute and it really captured my attention the whole way through. I had no idea how this was going to end up but was pleased with the ending.

This novel was the creepy, suspenseful thriller I have been looking for. The beginning was slow, but it definitely made up for it by the end. Ellie and Ash were well developed, unique, and felt real to me. And so did their story. I loved everything about this novel, but there were a few predictable spots. Overall, a great read.

This book started off slow but I am glad I stuck with it. The story has so many twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. Overall, it was a good read.

I really loved this absolutely terrifying book! The narration is excellent and the characters are reminiscent of some of my favorite horror films. I would really love to read or hear more from this author and I think this story would make for such a great adaptation.

I listened to the audiobook version of The People Next Door by Keri Beevis, with narration by Shakira Shute. This is my first book by this author, and I will definitely be seeking out more of her work! This story has creepy atmosphere in spades, and I highly recommend listening to the audio version. It was almost like watching a thriller movie while driving (without the pesky risk of dying while not watching the road).

Ellie and Ash move into a beautiful house known as Hazelwood Cottage in rural Corpusty, Norfolk, England. Sure, it needs a bit of work and there's only one close neighbor, but they think they've found their dream home. Ellie becomes friends with nice, shy Benjamin next door. So what if his sister Virginia seems a bit...odd? Ellie begins to hear occasional odd noises, but shakes it off. But she soon discovers the house has a very dark history, one which Ash failed to share with her. What really happened to the former owners of the house, and why is puppy Poppy fascinated with the cellar? When Ash takes a business trip and leaves Ellie home alone with Poppy, she discovers there really is cause to be afraid of bumps in the night...and during the day, too.

After a bit of a slow start, this ended up being a truly creepy thriller! It preys on a lot of fears many of us, especially women, have. How would we react if we found out our dream home had a horrific past? If we were alone and workers unexpectedly showed up, would we feel safe? Why does our new neighbor feel off? And most frightening of all, what if we were alone, our partner out of town, and we discover there actually IS reason to be afraid? ***Shudders*** The slow build-up to secrets revealed really gave this story a spooky atmosphere. There was a true WHOA, WHAT?! moment that totally snuck up on me without warning. My only issue with the story was the sometimes overdrawn dawning of peril which I think could have been made shorter without losing the suspense. Basically, though, I think the suspense was frightening and I was totally enthralled with the whole creepy vibe that was going on!

Shakira Shute did a marvelous job narrating this story. She voiced Ellie's burgeoning fear perfectly, Ash's Australian accent was quite credible and she was great with showing Benjamin's changes in mood. It's her portrayal of sister Virginia, however, that will absolutely dig its way into your brain and give you sleepless nights! Jump on in and be prepared to be freaked out!

Many thanks to @dreamscape_media for making this #thriller available on audio for review!
#ThePeopleNextDoor by @keri.beevis is a story about a young couple moving out of the city into a very quiet remote neighborhood, who wind up getting quite a bit more isolation than they bargained for. When Ellie & Ash meet their neighbor they think him kind and quiet, maybe a bit eccentric, but as he turns up more and more to try and insert himself into Ellie's life, she starts to feel uncomfortable, wants to talk to Ash about it, but he's out of town. When he returns home he finds : NO Ellie. Where is Ellie? I would say you'd never guess but you'll know before Ash does because the perspective flips between Ellie, Ash, Benjamin (the neighbor) and his reclusive sister. This book will have you feeling paranoid, claustrophobic, and a bit freaked out! The ending reveals had my skin crawling!!
A five star thriller for me! Definitely give this one a try, loved the audio. Totally creepy!

This was a truly scary book. The creapy neighbors - wow! So many twists and turns. This one will keep you awake at night. I am hooked. Great author. The ending was a big surprise. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a great read.

This was a quick read, well, listen for me as I used the audiobook (and at double speed). It starts with a young couple who learn, at least the woman, learns, that they have just bought a house where a woman was murdered and her daughter was missing. The husband/dad was suspected, but not charged. Throw in a best frenemy, nice but strange neighbor with an even stranger sister, and a boyfriend that may or may not be a good guy and you have an interesting story. I would compare it to a famous movie but that would spoil the big twist at the end. I didn't see that one coming.

This book certainly kept my interest through the long wait in my car for a Covid test and a home project when waiting for the (good) result. I will put it on my short list to recommend to some friends.

Ellie and Ash have found the perfect home, far out in the country and almost secluded. A road incident leads Ellie to meeting her new neighbor, Benjamin. Then things get weird. It took me a little while to get used to the narration but once I did it was fantastic. Great story with a few twists and turns I did NOT see coming! hank you so much!

When Ellie and Ash move into a beautiful old house in rural Norfolk, England, they believe they’ve found their perfect home
But when she discovers that her new home has a darker past and that Ash has been keeping secrets, what she thought was a perfect life in the countryside begins to unravel

Things escalate quickly in this novel. Ellie’s boyfriend goes out of town, and things happen fast. Suddenly Ellie is in real danger but no one knows where she has disappeared to.

This is the Audiobook of this novel, narrated by Shakira Shute. She does a very good job with the multiple characters and her accent is not too hard for a non-Brit to understand.

I love a good British mystery, and this is a pretty good one. There are some issues with the story, none very major or that should distract from anyone reading it. I had a problem with the sudden escalation in the storyline when it had been moving rather slowly in the first half. I also became annoyed with the main character Ellie more than I would have liked to. One moment she is a strong woman who does not let or like her boyfriend telling her what she should want or do. Then she is a paranoid, woman, scared of her own shadow who doesn’t know what to do when she has to spend her first night alone in her new house.
The character seems to jump back and forth between these two personalities, and it’s annoying at best. I think listening to this, rather than reading it, made it easier to get through when I became too annoyed with Ellie.

But the story is good and worth listening to.

Thanks to @netgalley, Dreamscape Media, and Keri Beavis for the chance to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

I am embarrassed I bothered to finish this book. I could tell who the villain was from the outset. I knew the book was not going to lead me to any place interesting psychologically, and it didn't -- and then when I got to a part of the book where some poor woman's eyelids are sewn open (while she's still alive) while her mouth is sewn shut, I absolutely felt I would stop. I can't stand gore and violence that seems that wholly gratuitous. But the book was gripping in its own juvenile way, so I finished it and then needed a shower. I do not recommend.

Suspense filled page turner!
This is my first book by Keri Beevis And won’t be my last! This is a very fast paste gripping novel that I had a hard time putting down. It is a very creepy read with lots of “go bump in the night” things to scare the bejesus out of the reader. The characters were very well developed and left me not knowing who to trust or what was going to happen next. Intense!
The narration by Shakira Shute was also excellent. The different voices were done extremely well, especially creepy Benjamin’s!
Thank you to Keri Beevis, NetGalley, and Bloodhound Books and Shakira Shute for the audio copy of this book.

(4.25 stars) The People Next Door by Keri Beevis | Audiobook Narrated by Shakira Shute

This creepy English countryside setting had me on the edge of my seat from the very start. I have seen one too many horror movies when a couple buys a house where there was once a murderer/missing woman. It never turns out well... I really enjoyed this book and liked the little subplots that all came together in the end. I actually started getting a strange feeling about the ending around 3/4 of the way through and ended up predicting the twist, though this didn't take away from my enjoyment.

Overall a great thriller I will be happy to recommend to friends and family.

Ellie and Ash have just moved to a new house. As they work to restore it they learn more about its history. Mysterious disappearances of the previous occupants have Ellie feeling jumpy. She does take up an easy friendship with her new neighbor Benjamin. But his sister Virginia scares her. And as more and more weird things happen Ellie becomes paranoid and isn't sure who to trust.

So to start with, I listened to the audio version of the book. The narrator Shakira Shute did a good job in my opinion. Nice distinct voices and I felt she really added the emotion that was appropriate to the scenes at the time.

The story itself was good. I enjoyed the writing and felt the author really captured the quiet isolated sort of feeling of the MC. It wasn't anything particularly surprising though. I really did see pretty much all the twists coming. Except for the boyfriend, Ash. I misjudged his character for sure. All in all, I did enjoy the story and there were some big-time creepy factors going on too.

I did see all the twists coming though. It wasn't that I wasn't surprised by them, I literally had them figured out almost from the first quarter of the book. I really thought the author wanted us to think it was what I guessed and then I'd be hit with a big plot twist. But nope, totally predictable.

Recommendation 16+
This book was meant for an adult audience but there was much that was too bad content-wise. Some swearing and violence.

Thank you to Netgalley, Publisher, and Author for a chance to listen to this book. This does not in any way influence my opinion or review.

Meet Ellie and Ash, new neighbors of Benjamin and Virginia. Ellie and Ash move out the the countryside for some space and to move-in together. Benjamin is the perfect neighbor, although his sister, Virginia, is a little odd. As Ellie tries to make their new house a home, strange things start to happen, Benjamin tries to persuade her to leave her "abusive" boyfriend, and the houses past seems to be repeating.

If you are a fan of Criminal Minds, you'll love this book (#criminalminds). It reads just like an epsiode, minus the FBI team. I was hooked from the beginning and loved the narrator. Some of the twist I saw coming (or guessed they were) and others came out of no where.

I'd like to say a huge thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I just finished this interesting thriller book and I’m torn

I rather did enjoy the narration of this book. I listen to the audio which is my preferred choice when enjoying a book so it helps when the actor does a really great job in bringing this book to life. I felt that the narrator was fantastic and I look forward to looking at many more projects that she has done. Now unfortunately I can’t based my review on her narration but I would say I would give the audiobook narrator a four star. I enjoyed most of the voiced characters that she did except for Benjamin‘s voice. She made Benjamin sound a lot older than I think he actually is. It sounded a lot more elderly then a 40 something should sound but other than that I enjoyed all the voices that she created.

Now the novel,

I found the novel to be very interesting. This is my first time reading anything by this author so I was really excited to really delve into this thriller. Unfortunately I found the pacing of this book very slow in the beginning and often found myself wanting to DNF this book.

I felt like Elle to be was very irritating with No common sense. I felt a lot of the things that Elle did was a contradiction to what she says she is. And often the mistakes that she made were very typical of most movies and thrillers that we have watched or seen. So there was no surprise or suspense in it because she did stupid things.

I didn’t see the chemistry between Elle and Ash until the half way mark were I noticed that Ash may possibly like her. But I guess that was part of the book to keep you on your feet.

There is a best friend that is included in this book and really didn’t make any sense. She was very irritating and I think they threw her in the story just to add another body. Because the backstory that was given for her relationship with Elle and Ash was not needed

Go by the second half of this book I started to enjoy it. I wanted to know when things were gonna happen and what more information we would find out.

Other than that I thought this book was pretty good it did have quite a few F bombs that unfortunately I felt didn’t make the story any better. I also wasn’t a big fan of the ending but it wasn’t a bad ending

No I thought that this book was way too long. 60 chapters is a bit much but it did move fast the Narration was fantastic and the second half really made it worth finishing.

I look forward to reading another book by this author.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape for letting me have an opportunity to listen to the Arc of This novel.

This book was crazy good. You should stop what you’re doing and read this book right now.
Ash and Ellie buy a lovely house in the country, their dream house with friendly and kind neighbors, Benjamin and Virginia. But when Ellie finds out the house has a dark history, strange and unsettling things begin to happen. Including Benjamin taking a bit of an unhealthy fancy to Ellie.

The audiobook was very engaging with a terrific narrator. The story was suspenseful with a dark and twisted plot.
Definitely a five star book for me!

I picked this title up when I read the synopsis. This is definitely a psychological thriller and up until the very last chapter, it will keep you guessing. You will think you know who the villain is and then wont and then BAM!

It was an enjoyable audio to listen. I am not sure if it has the same impact when it is read.

Thank you #NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for giving me the opportunity to read this.

What a fun plot! Not terribly unique but definitely an enjoyable journey. Lots of good creepy moments, which made me excited to keep reading!
The big twist that was revealed at the very end seemed obvious like only a quarter of the way in; I kept doubting that I had accidentally figured it out (like maybe it was the author's way of trying to throw me off the trail) because it seemed too obvious, but nope. However, that did not take away from the enjoyment of the story.
