I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The narrator did a great job bringing this creepy story to life. The author did a great job with the setting, atmosphere and gothic feel of this book. This one had great characters, that you are scared for while you read! and was just scary enough to give me the chills. If you are looking for a creepy read that isn't too scary then this one is worth checking out!

This has to be one of the creepiest books I have ever read, and thrillers are my favorite genre. This book checks all the boxes of a great thriller, but the twist towards the end was so good. I enjoyed Keri Beevis' writing style, and the narrator did a terrific job with the audio. If you are someone who loves thrillers, you must read this one!

Wow wow wow!!! This was by far one of the creepiest books I have listened to in a very long time.

Thank you to Keri Beevis, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this truly excellent book.

Ellie and Ash move into an old house in Norfolk that needs a lot of work. What Ellie doesn't know, until after they move in and get acquainted with the neighborhood, that a terrible crime took place five years prior. Ellie befriends Benjamin who lives next door with his sister, Virginia. Soon, Ash becomes uncomfortable with the amount of attention being paid to Ellie by Benjamin.

Throughout the story, Ellie begins noticing and experiencing lots of creepy and unusual things in and around the house. Then things get really wild...

Keri Beevis really created some complicated and infuriating characters. The worst being Roxanne who has to be one of the biggest assholes in fiction. I say this all as a compliment and i look forward to checking out more of her work. Shakira Shute, the narrator of this audiobook, was excellent and really brought life to these characters. I look forward to hearing more from her.

If you enjoy a creepy, creepy story, this one is for you!

Ellie and Ash are excited to move into their new house, Hazelwood Cottage, in the small village of Corpusty in Norfolk, England. They soon meet their only close-by neighbor, Benjamin Thorne.

Benjamin seems fascinated with Ellie and he often finds excuses to stop by and see her. He tells her his troubled sister, Virginia, lives with him. Though Ellie never formally meets Virginia, she catches glimpses of her at times.

Soon after moving in Ellie discovers that she and Ash are living in a house where once a woman was murdered and her daughter disappeared, never to be found.

When Ellie begins to notice strange things happening in the house, Ash thinks it’s her imagination. But Ellie, who is alone for most of the day, continues to hear footsteps and floorboards creaking. She discovers her kitchen knives laid out on her counter and someone paints a warning on her wall. But before Ellie can convince Ash that something really strange is going on, she disappears!

π‘΄π’š π’•π’‰π’π’–π’ˆπ’‰π’•π’”: This book is quite intense! It starts out by giving a glimpse (almost too long) into the life Ellie and Ash are just starting to build together, but about halfway through it moves into a more terrifying story. Though I suspected part of the ending throughout most of the story, the author gives enough clues that I think that is her intention. I was not prepared for the intensity of the second half of the book! I finished it late in the night and I couldn’t sleep afterwards! Read this if you love intense stories with explicit details of violence!

Trigger warnings: car accident with injured animal, bones, hostages, stalking, kidnapping, physical violence, mental instability
My thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my audio copy. The narrator did a great job with the voices and accents. My thoughts are my own.

Okay.. this was WILD! I am a thriller fan but horror freaks me out.. this was definitely borderline, but in a way that kept me reading! I had to turn on lights and call the dogs to lay with me when reading at night. This was fast paced, atmospheric and intense! I am trying so hard not to give spoilers.. all I can say is.. you will be in for a ride! I enjoyed the narration of the main character and her 3 legged dog was a fun addition! I don't foresee myself moving into a house with a haunted past.. it's too much!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an advanced audio copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The people next door is about Ash and Ellie who are thrilled to move into their new house. It may be a fixer upper, but it's just perfect for the couple who are excited to live out in the country where it's quiet. They only have one close neighbor-- a brother and his strange sister. Both seem harmless enough, and Ben is actually quite friendly and helpful. Until he starts to be a little too clingy and his sister Virginia starts to cross from strange to downright creepy.

This book had a lot of twists and turns and I never really knew where the story was going to end up. The author did a great job of keeping me on my toes and throwing me for loops without it being absolutely wild and out of nowhere. I also thoroughly enjoyed the narrator. She did a great job of making the characters sound distinct, and she even does a great Australian accent for Ash.

That being said, I do have a couple complaints and one of those pulled this story down a full star for me.
1. Ellie's best friend Roxanne is the absolute worst best friend you can imagine. She was SO annoying and I found myself wanting her to just implode.
2. We spend quite a lot of time in whiny Ben's head where he's just repeating the same things over and over and over. The book could have probably been a decent bit shorter if Ben's chapters had been shortened or even cut completely.
3. The overall length of the book was too long. The last 30% was absolute breakneck pace, but we had to (almost) suffer through 40% of the book that was painfully slow. The bit in the middle seemed decently paced, but I almost gave up on this book in the first 40% because I was so bored and ready for things to just start happening.
4. SPOILER***** I didn't like the mental health portrayal and how things ended up with Ben/Virginia. People will mental illness are already stigmatized enough and this type of characterization definitely doesn't help. This took the book from a 4 star for me to a 3.

As Ash and Ellie move to what seems like the perfect house Ellie soon realizes Ash held back some dark secrets from the house.

Ellie meets their neighbor Ben who lives with his sister Virginia that seems shy but also standoff-ish and she starts to suspect Virginia is up to something.

Just when I think I got the answers to what is going on, the biggest twist happens! It’s been a while since a thriller truly lead me into a twist I was NOT expecting.

The narrator was great and I could not stop listening to this one!

Omg Creepy! I really enjoyed this thriller! The story follows Ellie, a woman who her and her boyfriend, Ash, move into an old house only to find out that the house has a haunting history. The wife was murdered in the home and the young daughter is missing. The town blamed the husband but could not prove it so he is free and now someone is creeping around their house at night and when Ash has to go out of town for work, Ellie goes missing! No spoilers. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a fright! Thanks to #netgalley for the early review copy.

AUDIOBOOK
A creepy modern day gothic !
Ellie and Ash(er) purchase a small fixer upper home in the British countryside. The house is about a 15 minute walk to town and "civilization" so early on Ellie begins to feel isolated. It isn't long before she learns of the dark history of the house which greatly unnerves her. Her neighbors include the shy Benjamin and his ill young sister who seems to like to sneak over to spy upon them. Add a very, VERY creepy basement and it's a wonder that Ellie can stand to be in the house at all.

Then one weekend Ash leaves her for a work conference. And Ellie is forced to reckon with all of this, especially the people next door. If you like creepy stories and gothic tales this is a modern day novel for you! #ThePeopleNextDoor #NetGalley #dreamscapemedia

In the book The People Next Door, author Keri Beevis writes about Ash and Ellie who get a great deal on a house that needs some work. But is the deal to good to be true because of the history of the house? Or are the people next door involved in that disturbing history? When Ash goes away on a business trip, strange things begin to happen and paranoia grips Ellie. Is is all in her imagination because she found out about the disturbing history of the house, or are there really dangerous people involved? And if so, who are they and who can you trust? This was a great story that kept you thinking and involved. The audio-book narration was very good. I would recommend this book. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What happened to the family who used to live in Ash and Ellie's house? And what is with the brother and sister neighbors who live next door? Ellie and Ash move into a house where a murder previously happened and a young girl disappeared. I can't say whether or not I would want to continue living there if I learned the news, however I do know for sure I would not want to live there when the dog continues to get freaked out and obsessed by the cellar. No way, no how. For the most part, I was not scared reading this book, but once the cellar comes into play I was a little creeped out and for sure feeling a bit claustrophobic.

Ellie was a champ despite her fears and I was impressed by her bravery to make the best of her new house and the situations she finds herself in as this story plays out. I thought both Benjamin and Ash's characters were well written as I started out feeling one way toward each and flopped my feelings for both by the end of the book. I did not have the clever end twist figured out ahead of time, which gave me a nice AHA moment and for that I give it 4 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook version of this book in exchange for my honest review. The narrator, Shakira Shute, did a great job portraying all of the characters.

Being alone in a house with almost no one around definitely amped up the creepy factor of this book. I would have been too freaked out to stay in the house after some of the events so Ellie was very brave to me. Poppy the dog was of course the star of the show for me, I love when books actually use the animals in them to help the plot. The twists in this book were a little too predictable for me. I feel like I’ve seen this particular twist a lot recently, so I predicted it from the beginning. For the audiobook I liked the narrator when she voiced Ellie or Ash, but I did not like the voice of Benjamin. Though, it was very easy to tell who was speaking. For me, this was a 3.5/5.

I received a copy of this audiobook free from Netgalley and Dreamscape Media in exchange for an honest review.

So creepy!! I had it pretty much figured out, but it still gives you the hibbie jibbies! I felt like the police would be more involved, so that made it a bit unbelievable. But still good and creepy!

I probably would have given a 3.5 if that were an option. 4 stars is a bit high
Enjoyed the book. Adequate amount of suspense with some psychological twists and turns
Also makes me even more inclined to happily remain an introvert

3.5 stars.

By other reviews i was expecting CREEPY... It wasn't. There was alot of descriptions and character building in the 1st 60 % or so. Then it picked up a bit but the last 15% were good..

I had the audio book and the narrator was doing voices.. that was interesting :)

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

Okay this one was interesting. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook, but couldn't shake how familiar it felt. At first it reminded me of another audiobook as it had so many similarities. The plot seemed very similar to The Therapist by BA Paris. A tempestuous couple (where the boyfriend is clearly hiding something) moving into a spooky house with a spooky past. There's an unsolved murder and the girlfriend is mad her boyfriend didn't tell her about it before they moved in. Cue the creepy neighbour(s). I get that mystery and suspense novels will have the same recycled premises often, but I was pleased that this story did go in a slightly different direction. However it became even more similar to another VERY familiar story. I'm trying to avoid giving major spoilers as I know not many have had a chance to read this yet. But if you're at all familiar with Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho... yeah. Major Norman Bates energy here. That's all.

Otherwise, it was enjoyable! I liked the narration and twists and turns. Everyone served a purpose in the story and the characters had some dimension. Had it had more of an original story though, I would have probably rated slightly higher. Don't get me wrong, I love the nod to Hitchcock's work (intentional or not), but it made the novel a little more predictable and less suspenseful for me.

Cheers to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC. Looking forward to the next one.

I liked the characters in this story though it was a little predictable. The twist at the end was not really surprising. I enjoyed the narrator.

For the fans of the greatest king in suspense cinematography - Alfred Hitchcock - this book is up your alley.

Ellie and Ash's new country home holds a dark secret. Besides being located on a large property in the middle of nowhere with only one neighbor is creepy enough. But when chilling threatening messages begin to appear all around the house and unexplained circumstances happen on repeat - the new owners begin to dig into the history of their new home. And what they find is beyond any scary story anyone can think of.

From the very first page, I was drawn to the story. Love love love short character list. And the plot is hands down spine-chilling. Reading this book was like watching one of Hitchcock's movies. Ah, it is so hard to write a review without revealing the spiciest details. That's why I would just tell you to get this book, close all doors and windows, get yourself a bottle of wine (yes, you will need the whole bottle), and enjoy this amazing petrify thriller. You will not regret it. Thank you NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for a free and advanced copy of the novel.

3.5 This creepy story was entertaining but a bit predictable. This story follows Ellie and Ash as the decide to move in together in the countryside. They were able to get a great deal on a fixer upper house that had pretty of land and only one neighbor. After they move in the discover that a brutal murder took place in there new home a wife was murdered and a daughter missing all suspected the husband being responsible. The only other issue with there dream home is a creepy next door neighbor Ben that had a crush on Ellie.

I listened to the audiobook on this one and really enjoyed the narrator she made it easy to follow and entertaining. The story was good as well and felt very creepy and suspenseful. I liked the setting the remoteness of the house really added to the creepiness of this book. My only issue with the story is some of the twists were a little predictable although the overall vibe of this book made up for it. I plan to look for more books by this author. I would like to thank Netgalley for a chance to listen to this book for an honest review.
