This started out so slowly that I almost gave up. It definitely picks up about halfway through but by then I wasn’t invested in the story. As the story progresses, however, it does get creepy and hard to resist. This book could have benefited from a shorter build up to the action. I figured out some of the twists but the big one was a shock.

The narrator did a great job of switching between accents and with making each character distinguishable.

OK. This one got me a bit. It was a little creepy. I read a lot of psychological thrillers hoping it will leave an impression on me, make me a little creeped out. Most don’t, but this one did. Good job!
Ellie and Ash move into a fixer upper in the middle of nowhere. Soon, Ellie befriends their only neighbor, Benjamin. He and his sister, Virginia have lived in their house their entire life. Ellie soon finds out that the house that she and Ash purchased and are living in has a terrifying past. Strange things start happening in the home, noises are heard at different times of the day, doors open when left closed, words are panted on a wall. Ellie is freaked out and tries to get to the bottom of it. Benjamin tries to be a good neighbor and help Ellie as he thinks she is in trouble. The writing was fantastic as Beevis showed the readers how anxious Ellie felt in her home and the atmosphere around her. The People Next Door kept me on my toes with my eyes wide open. The twist at the end, I did not see coming, until a page or two beforehand. The conclusion was twisted but nicely wrapped up. This book was addictive from the start, and I listened to it only in a couple of days.

I loved this book. I received the audio book and was immediately drawn in from the second I pushed play.
Ellie and Ash have moved into a new home together and are very excited to start this stage of their lives together. They soon discover that the house, and the neighbors, aren't quite what they seem.
I found this book very suspenseful and entertaining. I truly didn't expect some of the twists and felt it was written very well. Also the voice of the narrator for this audio book was very soothing and I enjoyed the different voices for different characters.

This is how you write a thriller! I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire time.

The narrator was amazing and I couldn't have for a better reader.

4+ stars

Ellie and Ash move into an old house with only one neighbor nearby. Odd things start happening at the house—is it Ellie’s imagination or more to it?

Book turns very creepy in a very good way. Great audio book with fantastic narration by Shakira Shute.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced listening copy of the audiobook for this novel.

This was a great thriller! This was my first book I've read or listened to by this author and I am excited to see that she has 6 others! I will most definitely be checking those out soon.

I tend not to try to think too much on predicting the outcome or what will happen in a book. I do naturally consider certain things while reading, but in general I just like the author to tell me the story. In this case, I couldn't help but come up with theories on what was happening in this book. I had several different theories and I did guess it, but this was so well done.

There isn't a whole lot to say about this book without giving spoilers, so I will just say that if you're a fan of the genre that you should check this one out. Giving 4 stars instead of 5, because the characters could be more developed, but this is a book that is very difficult to stop once you start.

Do we every really know what goes on with our neighbors?

Ellie and Ash have just purchased their dream home in Norfolk, England. They are so excited to work on this fixer upper and make it their own. Ellie meets their new neighbor at the veterinarian's office after sadly hitting a puppy with her car (don't worry, the sweet pup lives). The neighbor is Benjamin, who has lived in the house next door all of his life and is at the vet with his cat. He seems quite nice and willing to help, which is nice since Ellie is often home alone while Ash is working.

Soon after meeting Benjamin, Ellie meets his sister, Virigina. She does not have the same welcoming demeanor as her brother. Ellie hears from people in the village that there is something different with Viriginia and that Benjamin is a sweet boy who took care of his dying mother and now still cares for his sister. Strange things begin to happen in Ellie and Ash's new home and they can't quite figure out what's going on and you don't really know what's going on with the people next door.

This book was really good. I felt the atmosphere was well done and I had the creeps several times throughout. There is definitely some suspenseful parts and it was well executed with a few red herrings. The narrator was great and this was overall an enjoyable listen!

One of the most captivating thrillers I have read in awhile. Loved the use of a classic twist that I have not seen recently, so I did not see it coming. Definatly page turning, I would have read / listened to in one sitting if I was able to.

Ellie and Ash have just moved into their new house that only has one neighbor close by. When Ellie finds that their house had been where a brutal murder of a mother as well as the teenage daughter went missing she no longer feels safe. Especially after the neighbor's "disturbed" sister, Virgina, starts leaving a message warning them to leave.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced audiobook for review.

Ellie and Ash buy a home out in the country, expecting to enjoy the quiet and safety that country living usually brings. When they moved in, they didn’t hear of the house’s history and how the previous owner’s daughter went missing and his wife was murdered in the house. But after learning this, Ellie feels a little uneasy with some of the events that take place. Ellie meets their new neighbor, Benjamin, and quickly strikes up a friendship with him. But as days go by, Benjamin seems to become a little overbearing and starts asking uncomfortable questions about Ellie and Ash’s relationship. Ash leaves for a work trip and when he returns, Ellie is nowhere to be found. History seems to be repeating itself in the house. Ellie is gone and the police have no clues as to where to start looking. That leaves Ash to be the one to investigate as he learns that his neighbor and his sister aren’t quite who they thought they were.

I really enjoyed this book. The creepiness continued to build and the final twist at the end was so unexpected. The epilogue even gave me chills right at the very end. I so enjoyed this chilling psychological thriller and look forward to reading other books by Keri Beevis. A fair warning however for the use of foul language. While this does not bother me, nor interfere with my enjoyment of the book, I do know that isn’t the same case for others.

I listened to this as an audiobook and was blown away with the performance of the narrator, Shakira Shute! Her use of different voices and accents for each character was completely captivating. Her performance itself deserves 5 stars!

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Keri Beevis for allowing me to read this advanced reading copy. This ARC was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! This book did not disappoint. Last year I had read several mystery books and each one was a big let down. That is not the case with The People Next Door.

Ellie and Ash buy a house in the English countryside. It was a steal for the price. The house is charming, and they plan on doing all the renovations themselves. However, things aren’t what they seem. We meet a sweet neighbor named Benjamin who takes care of his unwell sister. We meet Ellie’s best friend Rosanne who may not be such a good fiend after all. Then, new discoveries about the house has Ellie questioning everything she thought she new about her life, and her boyfriend. This has story has a lovely dark, gothic atmosphere that will definitely set the mood.

This author is particularly skilled in writing suspense. I was hooked on every word. The mystery kept amping up bringing me on a delicious ride of fear and wondering.

As I was reading this I thought I knew what was coming. I was thinking, as predictable. Then it wasn’t. It was t what I thought. Them, again I thought I knew what was coming and again I was wrong. Soon, the twists just kept coming and gripped with shock and anticipation.

The writing is just so well done. Each character has a clear voice and they story keeps throwing turns and new surprises your way. I really liked Ellie and found her so believable.

The pacing is perfect. The stories alternate between different points of view. It’s not confusing and really adds to the flow of the story. Each character has a distinct voice.

This book had everything I want in a mystery; suspense, twists I don’t see coming, compelling and believable characters, and good writing. I really can’t stop gushing at the skill of the rioting in this book! It’s like a poem where you hang on every well chosen word. Seriously, read this book. You’ll be creeped out but in the best way possible.

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this free audio advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

THE PEOPLE NEXT DOOR was a twisted trip down several psychological tunnels. Keri Beevis leads you in one direction, and you turn to find yourself going down another darkened path.
Ellie and Ash secure a beautiful cottage for a steal. Happy and in love, the couple pour their time and money into making the house into their dream home. Soon, however, Ellie learns that there was a murder in the house, and she sees the person who could be the murderer hovering around her house.
Strange things start happening, and Ellie thinks someone is breaking into her house, even though there are no signs of forced entry. Ash doesn't believe her until he returns from a business trip, and Ellie is gone.
Forty percent of the way through the book, I was absolutely hooked. I received the audiobook, so I kept my ears glued to every chapter. You won't be able to guess the end of this one!
Shakira Shute was a lovely narrator. She could easily shift from an English to Australian accent and from a male to female voice. It was almost entrancing just to listen to her, as she delivered the story with flawless rhythm and emotion.
I was given an audio copy by NetGalley for my honest review. My opinions are my own.
I recommend the book for mature readers, as there is explicit language and some reference to sex.
If you like psychological suspense, do yourself a favor and grab a copy of THE PEOPLE NEXT DOOR on January eighteenth!

Ellie and her boyfriend, Ash, take a huge step in their relationship when they buy a fixer-upper in the English countryside. Everything seems to be moving forward beautifully until they meet their creepy neighbors and find out a tragedy happened in the house five years earlier that was not disclosed by the realtor. Soon they begin hearing sounds in the house when they are home alone and finding doors open they are sure they closed. When the tragedies of the past start to repeat themselves, Ellie finds herself in grave danger and Ash the prime suspect.

This was a fun, fast read that I could not put down. The twists and turns kept me guessing most of the way through. I listened to the audiobook version and could not stop listening.

Potentially offensive content includes language and violence. I thought the foul language was excessive and really took away from the story. It didn't fit the characters at all.

I particularly loved the narrator of the audiobook, Shakira Shute. The nuances of her tone when portraying the unstable and mentally ill characters were chilling. Her portrayals were absolutely perfect. I think she did a 5-star performance of a 4-star book. I also loved how the book really kept me guessing. All the breadcrumbs were there in a perfectly paced trail.

Wow, this was a long one! It feels like it was 3 books in one.

Ellie & Ash move into a new house with only one neighbor. Ellie soon befriends the new neighbor Benjamin. But, Benjamin has a super creepy sister, Virginia, who lives with him. What did Ellie and Ash get themselves into?

This one story wasn’t as twisty as I’d hoped it would be. I did still enjoy it, even though the big “twist” was guessed early one. It was entertaining enough! I also enjoyed the narrator, she had a lot of range!

Read this if…you like classic Hitchcock thrillers like “Psycho” and/or unreliable narrators.

Ellie and Ash just bought a house together in the English countryside. Everything is idyllic until Ellie discovers the house has a horrible history. Five years earlier, a woman was supposedly murdered in the house by her husband and their teenage daughter disappeared. Ellie is reassured when she meets Benjamin, who lives on the property behind the couple’s and is their only neighbor for miles.

Benjamin is soft spoken and very kind. He lives with his sister who has “issues” and must be cared for. Benjamin is also very observant and notices the bruises on Ellie’s arms. When he hears her and Ash arguing, he tries to help Ellie get out of the potentially violent relationship, but Ellie refuses his help. Meanwhile, strange things start happening at her new house. Ellie hears footsteps and finds the knives in the kitchen rearranged, among other alarming things. Is the house haunted or is something more sinister going on here?

This was so dang good! I listened to this one on audio even though I hadn’t seen any reviews for it beforehand. What an awesome surprise! I haven’t read a thriller this fun time in a long time. It reminded me of a Hitchcock movie with the way there was a consistently creepy undertone running throughout the book. I had no clue who to believe as all the POVs were believable. I plan on buying a physical copy of this one to add to my bookshelves at home because I’m going to be recommending and loaning it out quite a bit!

A big thanks to Netgalley, Keri Beevis, and Dreamscape Media for an ALC in exchange for an honest review!

How well do you know your neighbors? The People Next Door looks at this age-old question as Ellie and her boyfriend Ash move into a charming home in the English countryside. Not long after their arrival, things turn darker than she could have expected. The house is isolating- the friendly man next door and his troubled sister the only people around, and there are secrets hidden seemingly everywhere.
When Ellie goes missing not long after moving in, things really get creepy. The tension in this book is great and the narrator did a great job conveying that and the slightly unsettling tone to some of the characters.
This book really did have all the makings of a good psychological thriller and left me uncertain of who to trust and what to believe. There are parallels to a certain classic horror/thriller film and while I did guess a couple of the main twists later in the book based on that there were still plenty of things I didn't see coming.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

Good grief, what did I just listen to?!?!

This book is so creepy and weird, well I guess I should preference that with “one of the characters’” in this book is creepy and weird! And absolutely crazy as well! But because of this, the book was really good. I couldn’t put it down and needed to know how it ended and what happened.

So if you love a good psychological thriller, then grab this one!! I definitely recommend it.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I loved the twists at the end and I like that I didn’t predict it happening. I did find the beginning very slow and it didn’t keep me engaged. Once things picked up I was invested to see how everything would end. Unfortunately I didn’t love the narrator but that could also be because I didn’t like two of the main characters, I found them very annoying. But in general I would recommend this book!
