As the second in a cozy mystery series, we follow Plum as she is living it up in paradise and occasionally solving a murder. As cozy mysteries go, this one is ok. Usually, my enjoyment of cozies comes from how much I like the main character; the one who just keeps finding dead bodies. In this case, I don't think that Plum would hold my interest in many books. There isn't really a whole lot to grab onto with her personality or humor. As a beach read cozy, this book would be just fine, but it isn't a series I'll continue to read. The narrator was fine and didn't distract from the listen. All in all, this audiobook was ok, but nothing remarkable.

I tried to get into this one a few times, but unfortunately, I didn't feel the same level of interest as I did with the first book in the series. It could definitely be a case of bad timing versus the book. I think there is a lot of promise, so perhaps I'll give it another go at a later date.

3.5
This book was a good little cozy mystery. It was well written with interesting characters and a very nice location!
Plum Lockhart, a name she gave herself, left behind her corporate job in New York City to move to the Caribbean island of Paraiso. She now owns her own villa broker agency and spends her days chasing down clients and enjoying the white sand beaches.
However, when a publishing heiress is found dead at the mansion of a rather eccentric tycoon, Dieter Friedrich, an old friend cashes in a favor asking her to investigate. Now she has to figure out a way to fit in a murder case to her already overflowing schedule. Friedrick is known for some pretty shady dealings but he’s not the only one. Plum will have to deal with not only him but a rockstar who is a bit of a sleazy sort, a millionaire who is always scheming, and a bunch of B-list celebrities with a devious side.
Since this is the second book in the series you may want to read the first one first but I didn’t realize it was a second book and was just fine with this one as it was. I think I’ll likely go back and read the first though because a lot of character development must have taken place in that one. I would probably recommend not reading this one first but know that if you do it’ll be alright.
I liked this but I think the main character, Plum, seemed quite judgmental at times which didn’t make her incredibly likable. Still, the book is fun and goes by quickly.
If you get a chance, check out the audio book. The narrator is fantastic!

This is a cozy mystery, and this is the second book in the Trouble in Paradise series. I really wanted to love this book, but I just did not. There was parts of the mystery that I did liked, but there was to much time was I feel there was nothing going on. This book just could not keep me wanting to keep going. I ended just making myself finish this book. 2.5 rounded up.

What a great cozy mystery! I enjoyed the first book in this series and it's even better if you listen to both. The narration was great with lots of characters.

There is so much I like about this series, the setting, the side characters, the sort of wackiness of the island culture/life, the rivalaries between people/businesses. And I really enjoyed those things again here. But I am having a hard time with the main character/sleuth. I liked how in the first book she seemed to be rethinking her life but it felt like here she takes two steps back. I will probably read book 3 just to see if it is different but this isn't a series I will be recommending to many others at this time.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a cute second installment to the series! I love seeing Plum grow into her own skin and take charge. The crime solving had as many hijinks as ever. I love the place Plum is carving out for herself on the island! Can't wait for book #3!

(I requested book 2 not realizing it was the second in a series. To be fair, you could just go ahead and read this one without having read the first one, but I noticed the first book was free on my hoopla app so I listened to it first and I think it made listening to the second book even better because you really get a better sense of who Plum is and how much she has changed just from one book IMO)

New murder with tons of new characters in the mix! I actually got the killer wrong a few times in this one and it was a very fun mystery. Once again, Plum is solving a murder but this time someone ACTUALLY asks her to help.

A young heiress is murdered on Paraiso after a party at a wealthy eccentrics house. The young woman wasn’t well liked and had a interesting (and illegal) habit that complicates the investigation because it implicates several people. Plum works to solve this murder with the help of Juan Kevin while Gerald tags along.

This is the second book in the series but I did not know that when I started listening to this one.

It can definitely be a stand alone book. In a tropical island setting Plum teams up with Juan Kevin to figure out a murder that occurred on the island.

It’s an easy, quick, mystery read (with some romance), but I did predict the killer (although at times I felt like it could have been anyone!)

Narrator did a good a job.

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery set in the islands of the Pacific Ocean. A New Yorker, tired of the grind, goes to a vacation in Paradise. But she ends up embroiled in a murder investigation with a hot local policeman. Great start to a new cozy mystery series. The narration was also excellent.

I want to thank the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for giving me an advance copy of this audiobook, in return for an honest review.

What a fun title! I liked this one better than the first book in the series. The characters have grown on me and I do like the premise of this cozy.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. First off the narrator did a really good job! I find that other books I have listened to and if the narrator has to do an accent it usually annoys me, but this narrator did really good with all the accents.
If you love murder mysteries then you will like this one. It was a cute easy read and the perfect who done it. Highly recommend. I would read from this author again.

SOMETHING’S GUAVA GIVE is just so very fun - a cozy mystery but also a break from reality an escape to an island in the Caribbean - warm weather, beaches and sunshine ! The mystery is high-energy, fast paced with fun characters and witty dialogue.
The story flows smoothly and the characters are smart and entertaining.  There are plenty of funny moments and Plum is spot on with her observations of life and people- even if she tends to be on the snarky side, who doesn’t love their snarky friend ?
Juan Kevin is a great match as Plum’s love interest- their exchanges are so fun, if you love a bit of banter with your mystery you’ve come to the right book. It is a thoroughly enjoyable mystery and just a whole lot of fun to read.

Pearl lives in Paradise — or the tropical island of Paraiso — and now runs a company that manages rental properties on the island. When a friend from her former life asks to get his boss’ daughter out of a spot of trouble, and said daughter quickly shows up dead, Pearl suspects foul play. When the authorities disagree that the death was murder, Pearl and her friends run their own parallel investigation.

The mystery is well-constructed, but meanders a little too much. The narrator’s use of accents comes across as a little bit xenophobic at times. It made me very uncomfortable.

A fun cast of characters, some romance, it is overall a nice book, just not very memorable.

Something's Guava Give is a somewhat fun cozy mystery that is the second book in the Trouble In Paradise series.

I love a cozy mystery, or any book really that takes place in a warm tropical setting, or really any beach setting. Maybe that is because I am stuck in the middle of the US away from the sweet smell of the ocean that I grew up surrounded by. Cozy's that take place in this type of setting is perfect to pop in your bag and head for a day of fun and sun, or like now, great to warm up your soul a bit when the weather is cold and dreary.

I hate a love-hate relationship with this story. There were many things I enjoyed about the story...location...characters, the author's writing, and descriptions, but as a whole, I am not really sure I like the entirety of it. I did like It Takes Two To Mango much better. I chalk this up to the sophomore album syndrome I saw so many times when I worked in the music industry. The first is so good, that the second has a hard time living up to it, not that it is bad, this wasn't, it just wasn't for me. I know hundreds of readers will love this.

The story was fairly action-packed, and that kept me listening. There were more than enough suspects to keep you guessing and they all had good motives, but there was a lot of downtimes, and in the end, it all just felt rushed, wrapping up too quickly.

The narration of the book was nice and pleasant and made the listening enjoyable. It will not detract me from reading Doyle's next book, she has proven to me that she is a great and fun creator of stories, this just wasn't one that resonated with me.

Something’s Guava Give by Carrie Doyle was an audio escape! I loved seeing what Plum got up to in the second book in the series. It’s fun seeing her build a business and maybe romance on a beautiful tropical island!

Plum is trying to establish her new business in luxury rentals on the island of Paraiso in the Caribbean, when she finds herself in the midst of another murder case. When a New York heiress gets into trouble on the island, Plum’s former employee Gerald begs her to step in and help. And when she is killed, Gerald shows up to help/force Plum try to solve the murder.

Plum is continuing to develop and grow as a character, and I’m continuing to grow to like her as she does. The mystery is good, and there are just the right amount of clues and misdirects to keep me guessing. Makes for a fun cozy.

Great narration for the audio book! Good voice and pacing.

This is a fun cozy mystery. I would probably have rated this a 5 star in written form, but I am reviewing the audio portion. The "accents" were a bit distracting, and it was difficult to discern which character was speaking - thus the confusion. It's a good mystery plot - rather long with lots of details that don't necessarily add to the storyline but then again it could have just been me having confusion over the which character was speaking.

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery set on the island of Paraiso in the middle of the Caribbean. With some cozies I feel like they try too hard to be cozy, but this book was just the right combination of cozy, mystery and thriller. You still have the rag tag bunch of characters out to solve a murder, but they didn't feel as over the top as some characters are. The only thing that was a little over the top were the descriptions of the food, which don't get me wrong sounded delicious, they just seemed out of place or unnecessary at times. I do wish I'd read/listened to the first book in the series before starting this one as I felt like I was missing some of the backstory, but this can still be read as a stand alone. Overall, I really enjoyed this and I love Plum and Juan Kevin and I'm excited to see how that relationship develops. This will be one cozy mystery series I'll want to keep up on.
