I can't finish listening to this. The narrator has a nice voice and does a decent job as long as she is not attempting to read any of the characters with accents. The German character became an absolute caricature of a German. Also the writing is very stilted in a way that gets emphasized poorly in an audio book.

Story wise, it's just dumb. There's no understandable reason why a real estate agent and a security guard would be teaming up to solve a mystery they have no stakes in. The island has police officers, and all the victims/suspects are wealthy and influential. They would hire pros if they thought they needed them. The premise is nonsensical.

The setting on a tropical island is interesting. This was my first Trouble in Paradise mystery. There were some great suspects. The woman who died wasn’t a sympathetic character so i didn’t really care about the outcome. Most the characters in the book weren’t people I could connect with so the story didn’t really draw me in.
I didn’t care for the main character, Plum. I heard a interview with the author and the author said she tried to make Plum imperfect. That mission was accomplished but imperfect doesn’t need to mean unlikable. I didn’t like anything about Plum. I hoped by the end I would change my mind but my opinion didn’t really change. In fact I wonder why Juan Kevin is attracted to her.
So this story wasn’t my cup of tea but it may be yours. Give it a try if you’d like to visit somewhere tropical to take you away for a minute from the winter cold.
The narrator did a good job.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this mystery audiobook.

Paraiso sounds like a fabulous island to spend time on (except for the murders).; sunny, a beautiful beach, and amazing food and drinks. The mystery was solid, with plenty of suspects to keep you guessing until the very end. I think my issue with this story is that I haven’t warmed to Plum. There’s nothing wrong with her; I just don’t connect. I like Juan Kevin but Gerard was not my favorite.

Narration was well done, no issues.

This is the second book in the Trouble in Paradise mystery series. I read the first book too, so I was excited to read the ARC audiobook for the second. It’s definitely your typical cozy mystery but I liked the continued storyline and further development with the relationships introduced in the first book.
(Rounding up from 3.5)
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape for the ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I had high hopes for Something’s Guava Give, but honestly it fell flat in the end. I never felt like I connected with the characters or really cared that much about the storyline. The mystery didn’t feel that in depth to me, and even the island vibes-the reason I was interested in the first place-were just so so. I’m sure others will like this book, but it was just ok to me.

I did enjoy the narrator though. 3*

I received a copy of this audiobook from netgalley in exchange for an honest and fair review.

This is the second book in the Trouble In Paradise series.

Just like It Takes Two To Mango, Something’s Guava Give was a fun, tropical cozy. I personally don’t read a ton of cozy mysteries so I don’t have much to compare it to, but I enjoyed the quick, light-hearted read. Despite the murders that occur in Plum’s town, this book isn’t high-stakes, tense, or gruesome.

I loved the setting of Paraiso–especially Plum’s descriptions of the local fruits. It made me really miss the resort vacation I just came back from.

I read a physical copy of the first book in the series, so it was fun to try out the audiobook for Something’s Guava Give. The narrator’s voice was pleasant and her pacing was good. Audio may have been a better option for this one for me, because I like to be able to listen to the Spanish words thrown into the conversation instead of skimming them in the book, since I don’t speak Spanish and usually don’t know the meanings.

If you’re a fan of cozy mysteries, this series is definitely one to pick up.
