This was good. It’s a cozy mystery that has some humor, some more serious issues in it, and a little murder.
When radio DJ Jaye Jordan gets angry one day she blows off the head of a snowman with a Revolutionary War type musket. She never expected a human corpse to be in it!. When Jaye moved from the bustle of NYC to Vermont and bought a little radio station she really thought she was going to get a more laid back life for her and her daughter, Ryan. However, as you can see, just the murder alone makes it anything but!
Jaye is determined to clear her name and find the real killer but she has her hands full with her station, her tween daughter, and her old crush who happens to be the governor. Jaye has some incredibly… peculiar allies as well. One being a flatulent moose named Neptune.
This book was alright. It does have a lot of topics that take you away from the murder and, I guess, more into Jaye’s own life and situation. It was interesting but I had honestly forgotten all about the murder, only that there must have been one, more than once.
Still, this is well written and if you are a big cozy mystery fan you’ll probably enjoy it. This is available in audio as well. The narrator is very good and adds quite a bit to the story.

I was excited to read this book as I loved the idea of the small town setting. However, I felt like this was more of a romance than a cozy mystery. It also seemed very political. I just really did not get invested in the characters. It was a meh read for me. Thanks NetGalley for the audio eARC.

I usually like cozy mysteries of all kinds. But this series did not excite me. So, unfortunately, I didn't finish it.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for giving me the opportunity to listen to this.

I love how feisty Jaye is. I mean to take musket to a snowman made me laugh so hard! Jaye and Ryan have such a fun mother daughter relationship. I love this little community of Vermont. The mystery was fun and twisty just how I like it. I cannot wait to read more in this series. Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Mom shot the snowman! Recently divorced DJ Jaye Jordan recently relocated to Vermont from New York with her daughter. When she sets out to make a point and blows the head off of a snowman with a musket, the last thing she expected was to inadvertently shoot the head off of talk show host Edwin Anger and being accused of his murder. Determined to clear her name and find the real killer, she is faced with obstacles along the way, including constant threats directed at her, ultimately putting her daughter in harms way as well. Can she figure out who the killer is before someone else gets hurt?
Thank you Netgalley, Nikki Knight and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read and review this book. This was a cute cozy mystery that was easy to read and follow along. There was even a smidge of romance! I would have liked to see Jaye take a more active role in the sleuthing part, and maybe a little more mystery. This is the first book in a new cozy mystery series and I’m looking forward to seeing the character development as the series goes on. I think the series has potential and this book is a good start. I rate this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was an entertaining read. There's more political and social commentary than I usually see in a cozy mystery but I like the mix.

The mystery was decent and had a nice sprinkling of romance and humour. I loved the small town radio aspects.

I was really liking this book and was very close to the end (maybe about an hour left, at most). I loved the characters--all so very unique and complex. And, the plot is also complex in that it has a little romance, a little political and social commentary, some mystery and some humor. Loved the combination, as it allows one to laugh at the radio hate-mongers and their followers, but also see the seriousness of such actions. It also gives some insight into how kids react to their parents' divorce and also to hate crimes against them.

I wish I could give a more complete review, but it disappeared from my NetGalley app before I could finish. This was very frustrating and I wish publishers would find a way to allow someone who's in the process of reading a book to finish it, even if it's been archived. I'm dying to find out how the book finishes, and now I'll never get to. So, I'm taking away one star for that.

The main character seemed unkind. Her words and attitude were hateful toward other people. There was more language than you typically see in a cozy mystery. With those two elements, I don't believe this book would be a good fit for my audience.

This book felt more like political commentary than a cozy mystery. I made it about 50% of the way through before deciding to call it quits. Also, the narrator kept saying segued as segged and it was really annoying.

Fun, light hearted... well as much as a murder mystery can be, this book had all the best parts, humor, mystery, romance, a cat that thinks she's the queen, what more can you want.
This one has a ton of ups and downs, mysteries, crime solving and more mysteries.
I never thought I'd enjoy a book that starts with a "snowman" getting shot, I did tho, this one was a great story.
The Narrator was really nice, I enjoyed the intonation and tone to her voice, as if she were telling a story not just reading what was on the page.

This is a good mystery storyline. Contains a lot of political views - both sides of the aisle. Makes you realize how nut jobs can come out of the woodwork if they don't agree with your point of view and how dangerous that can be for the targeted person and anyone else in the vicinity. Sarah Beth Goer was the narrator and read with a bit of sarcasm and snark. I believe that was intentional and fit the content of the book. Her voice is clear and easy to understand.

I really enjoyed this audiobook performance of Live, Local, and Dead, book #1 in the new Vermont Radio Mystery series. I thought the female protagonist was fun and worth following - a local DJ that is embroiled in a murder of someone that was inside a snowman. She meets a lot of people and is very helpful in solving the crime. And she finds a little romance along the way.

I want to thank the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for giving me an e-copy of this book for review. This does not affect my opinion or comments in my review.

Live, Local, and Dead by Nikki Knight does not fit into one category, but several. It's part cozy, part hard boiled, part romance, part suspense. I really enjoyed this listen. Sarah Beth Goer did a good job performing the book and gave it plenty of attitude that fit the character. The author wrote an original storyline that kept me guessing. Thank you #NetGalley and #Dreamscape Media for letting me listen to this book.

Live, Local, and Dead introduces us to J, a recently divorced radio jock, who moves to a small town in Vermont with her daughter. J purchases a small radio station , gets rid of a hate mongering talk show, and runs an oldies request program. Soon she becomes the target of protests from a few disgruntled listeners who want the hate mongering talk show returned to her airwaves. The protests soon turn in to threats, vandalism, and even death attempts. This cozy mystery is the first in a series and I look forward to more stories with J and the other characters we meet in Live, Local, and Dead. I highly recommend this entertaining book.
In exchange for an honest review, I was given an ARC of the audiobook by NetGalley.

I listened to 25% and quit. If I wanted to be annoyed by politics, I would turn on the news or listen to idiots on Facebook. All the anti-Republican crap became so incredibly old. Otherwise the story was cute. Too bad it was bogged down by the author's opinions.

My first DNR on a Netgalley advance reading copy, which I hate. But I appreciate the opportunity!

This is a cozy mystery book that takes place around a radio station. It avoids the standard cozy mystery trope of not having any animal companions for the main character, unless you count the snowman that hides a dead body at the requisite murder of the novel. No? Well, I thought I’d give that a try. It stars a Jewish (by conversion) radio jockey, an ex-husband who had cancer (big overarching trauma), and a hot new guy who I think is a guest radio host. There’s a lot of narration in this book that bogs down the plot, including just some random harassment by a frat boy republican, and that’s all well and good in a print novel, but in an audiobook cozy mystery where I hate the narrator? It’s not happening. Look, this is how it shook out: I absolutely could not finish this book because listening to this narrator is like listening to your least favorite aunt speak. Is it just me? Maybe! Maybe you have a better relationship with your aunts than I do! But I am not on good terms with either of mine. This audiobook receives one star for narrator, three stars for being a book. No comment on any copaganda because I only got to chapter seven before I gave up.

Live, Local, and Dead by Nikki Knight

“I shot the snowman. But I did not kill the guy inside.”

From the publisher: Death waits for snowman in Nikki Knight’s new Vermont-based cozy series, perfect for fans of Connie Archer and Mary Kennedy.

There’s a lot to like in this first in a new series by Nikki Knight (Kathleen Marple Kalb).
Sharp sense of humor and wit
All the details of running a small radio station
So many references to songs from different decades
Jewish and LBGTIA representation
May-December romance
Coffee and maple syrup
Giant cat and what is the only moose I’ve ever read about in a cozy

Some die hard cozy fans will quibble with the sex outside of marriage (mostly off screen) and the edginess (politics, pipe bombs). Also while there are multiple mysteries, it is pretty clear early on who was responsible for both. But for me, the whole of this book adds up to more than the sum of its parts and the audio performance adds another layer. This isn’t Knight’s first book, and she has radio experience and it shows. But even more than that, this book has a unique point of view and a lot of heart. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

This is NOT a cozy mystery. I am normally not bothered by graphic talk and politics, but I want cozy mysteries to stay cozy. There are trigger warnings in this book for racism (the author condemns it). The protagonist also didn't do any investigating. Most of this book is focused on her relationship with her new boyfriend, who is the opposite of her regarding politics. Very disappointing.

On a positive note, the audiobook narrator was fantastic.

DNFing this one at chapter 10. I don't like the main character, the mystery isn't holding my attention and I just overall am not enjoying this one. Moving on.
