This is a great children's book for young children aged 4-8. It is about a young boy and his dragon who are looking at what happens in the winter time. The book has short sentences and beautiful illustrations which describe winter time words, such as snow, coat, scarf, snowball, snowman, sled, igloo, fort and book. My daughter and I loved this book, and I highly recommend it.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a brilliant, simple but engaging level 1 reading for three to five year olds. I find these books much more interesting than the books that my nine year old learnt to read with. Five stars ⭐

This is a great, easy and repetitive level 1 reading for 3-5 years old. I also like that there is a page on questioning the setting and characters, etc.

The second Dear Dragon book I was given to review by NetGalley. It has appealing illustrations and glossary, and working with a caregiver, they’re are plenty of opportunities for language work and discussion.

This was a very nice book to read for very early beginners. Very encouraging and nice photos that help kids make sense of what they are reading. Definitely recommend these books to every child learning to read.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this children’s title.

I loved how the sight words were very easy to pick out and the story was quick and to the point. This is a book that is definitely for new readers’. The illustrations will help guide the new reader to figure out the harder words too.

The length of the book was just right. It wasn’t too short and nothing overwhelming. The illustrations were very colorful and well done too.

After just coming out of our winter breaks and having our first snow, my son really enjoyed reading this! Another great Dear Dragon book, in this story we follow their adventure outside in the snow and all the great things about winter. Once again, we're given the perfect simple sentences for a beginner reader and the matching pictures to help them along. These books are great and my son enjoys reading these. We've already read them multiple times and we'll definitely be reading them a few more times while my son becomes more confident in his reading. Easy recommendation for families of early readers.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Norwood House Press for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review.
I have 2 children aged 9 and 6 years, and both are autistic, with the 6 year old also having ADHD. Both children are very bright and absolutely love stories and books, although both of them are still at a very basic reading level and really struggle to access stories for themselves. I read this early reading level with my youngest and he absolutely loved it. I think the inclusion of a dragon really helped to keep his interest and he made a very good attempt at reading every word. The repetition also really helped him memorise the words and gave him a sense of accomplishment when he could read a sentence without much help from me. He also really enjoyed the illustrations and wants to read other books in the series with me.

One thing for sure, this little guy likes playing in the snow and learning new words. Who wouldn’t when you get to use them in sentences.

An unnamed boy and his beloved pet dragon enjoy a fun interactive winter's day. They bundle up and head outside to enjoy all the activities and adventure that old man winter has to offer.

This is a perfect book for developing readers. It consists of simple vocabulary and stunning illustrations that are bright, bold and colourful. The reader feels like a participant as the two make a snowman, ride in a sled, build an igloo and have a glorious snowball fight with friends. How fun is that?

The author includes a note to caregivers, a picture glossary, word work which is comprised of compound words, and activities which reveal the main components of a story... main characters, plot, and setting. This educational book will be well received by that targeted age group. I highly recommend it.

My 4.5 year old son loved this book! He was able to read it pretty easily, only having trouble with a couple of words. At the end he said, “Let’s read this again!” I count that as a win! We will be reading more Dear Dragon books in the future!

Not your run of the mill learn to read book. This book introduces compound words and how they are used. Also a introduction to learning main characters, plot, setting and illustrations.

Using repetitive words and illustrations, your child will gain confidence in reading and have fun doing it. Highly recommend.

A special thank you to Norwood Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I Love Winter, Dear Dragon! by Marla Conn is a book in the Dear Dragon series for developing readers. According to the synopsis, the book is about "when a boy and his pet dragon enjoy a winter day exploring... They enjoy making a snowman, going sledding, building a fort and more.." The sentences themselves are simple, which makes sense, since this book is for a Level A reader. I took off 1 star, because I found the pictures somewhat lacking. Some children's books are read over and over, because children adore the illustrations. Unfortunately, you won't find that here.

As a teacher, I liked that there is a picture dictionary at the beginning of this book in a section called "words in this book." I also liked common sight words (without pictures) were included. Often, when introducing vocabulary books, we focus on words that have pictures and forget about words like "at" and "the." I also liked the activity pages at the end of the book, which include "word work" (compound words) and "activity" (summarizing the story). Those are definitely useful activities that will help kids academically. If you're looking for a book for a Level A reader, I recommend that you check out this series, which is available now!

This is an amazing book for early, emergent readers. The picture glossary in the beginning is a great way to introduce readers to the language in the book before they read. The questions at the end make planning a guided reading lesson or mini-lesson easy to plan. The language in the book and the repeating nature makes it perfect for level A readers. I would definitely use this in my classroom.

I read this book this afternoon with my four year old daughter who started school in September 2021 and is currently learning to read so is the perfect target age for this book.

This book was ideal for her, it was repetitive and the sentences were great and really relevant to things that happen in winter so she picked up on them much easier.

I thought that the illustrations were lovely - it is 5 stars from me for this one - we both loved it!

Great book for guided reading groups in kindergarten. Each page includes a repetitive sentence pattern for early readers to read with ease. The illustrations are bright and will engage any dragon loving child. The focus on winter is perfect to use during a 4 seasons or weather unit in science. The end of the book has great activities to do during your small group time, too!

This book is one in a series called developing readers. With repeating words and compound words, this book is simple yet educational. Adorably illustrated with bright colors and fun details, eye catching for so many ages! A young boy and his pet dragon enjoy the wonders, the beauty, and the fun of a snowy day. Your littles will enjoy the illustrations and learn simple sight words. The book includes fun educational activities as well. I'll definitely look for more of these for my grands❤

Have fun as you join a little boy and his dragon on a snow day adventure! What does the day hold for the two friends? They must get dressed, roll snowballs into a snowman, ride a sled, and make an igloo.

"I Love Winter, Dear Dragon" by Marla Conn is written with repeated words in a basic story developed to increase the child's confidence in reading. The book is terrific fun for beginning readers and increases their vocabulary as they read. The illustrations by David Schimmell are bright, colorful and make it easier for the reader to figure out the words. The activities section for children at the end of the book reinforces skills the student is learning.

Thank you NetGalley and Norwood House Press. It is a honor to review this book!
