The second book in the duology did not disappoint! I did not want to put it down once I started it.
The story continues on from the first book with Mihr and Fane along with Dax and Cam are still in hiding from both the angels and demons as well as from the humans. Mihr and Fane have progressed in their relationship and are now together and still misunderstand each other resulting in arguing and fighting.
Although it was fairly predictable I still enjoyed the continuing storyline and outcome and will be looking forward to reading more from the author in the future.

I loved this sequel! I won't spoil the book, but I can say that the stakes are much higher than they were before! This book is full of action and romance, and both will leave you wishing the book was longer! Congrats to the author for writing such a great read!

Angel Falling is the conclusion of the Ember duology written by Victoria Larque and that has an original plot in which Mihr, an Angel falls in love with Fane, a Demon and joins forces with Gabriel, a Half-Demon in a suicide rescue mission: they must enter Hell and rescue the soul of Daxter, a human child. All this while being hunted by Angels and Demons who see Fane and Mihr as traitors.
A very attractive story that will tempt the reader to read it without stopping!

Heat Factor: Pretty low heat, considering this is a demon romance

Character Chemistry: Fane teasing Mihr is the highlight of this duology

Plot: A demon and an angel escape from Hell together and make a lot of people really angry in the process

Overall: Demon Rising (the first book in the duology) was really fun, but this one kind of dragged.

I didn't like this one as much as the first. Fane is still sassy and amusing, and the story was interesting, but it was incomplete. The romance was okay but mostly just like neither of them communicating their feelings, so it wasn't really proper tension or build up anything special. If you're looking for sexybits, there are some but not a bounty of sexybits.

My main issue with this one is that nothing is really tied up nicely in a bow. This is a duology, but it feels unfinished. Many things were started that never ended. Why bring Gabe into the picture and tease a possible romance only to have him wander off and never hear from him again? Cynthia comes into the picture and then.. nothing really. Dax is super strong with magic, and he can make new spells and translate ancient text, but why? How? Michael was a traitor and was building an army. There's going to be this massive heaven vs. hell showdown, and we don't know how that pans out. We never find out if God (omnipotent.. but yeah) knew about Michael's traitorous activities, though clearly a lot of people were in on it. There's this mystery sand that for some reason adores Fane but we never find out why. Lucifer is, I assume, still tracking Fane. I also assume the denizens of heaven would still like a word with Mihr, and to kill him. We end up with an ending battle but not with a bad guy that's even really discussed much throughout the whole of the 2 books. There's a rescue and happy ending, but it's hollow and unsatisfying.

I assume there's going to be another duology or something set in the same world and this is possibly why so many loose ends were untied, but this is never firmly hinted. It was messy and plot-holey and just felt unfinished and unrefined. I can't imagine anyone beta read this and didn't ask about some of the above. There's no real excuse for it. I feel like it shouldn't have been published as is. I think the author could have done better. I'm still giving it 3 stars because it was entertaining enough, but it was really close to being a 2-star read for me.

Angel Falling (Embers Duology #2). By Victoria Larque. 2021. Butterdragons Publishing (ARC eBook).

Angel Falling deals with the consequences of Mihr blessing Fane in order to escape hell and their subsequent close association with a human woman, Cam, and her son, Dax. Once again, I really enjoyed the world building of heaven and hell, the action, and the witty banter that is also present in Demon Rising. And Mihr and Fane’s relationship does not take a back as they try to save the world. Overall, a wonderful duology!

Do angels and demons count as paranormal romance? Honestly, this was a romp between a grumpy angel and a surprisingly sunshiny, if acerbic, demon , both of whom were just trying to save the world, no big deal. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and its sequel in the duology.

this book was such a good follow up to demon rising , and this was more action packed while the romance on this took a slight backseat but hey I’m not complaining. This focused more on the battle between Heaven and Hell and saving Dax. There were still some very romantic and touching scenes with Mihr and Fane, but it was more on them just finally admitting to all the feelings that were in the first book.

Overall, this was a good following sequel. I loved how the expansion of Heaven and Hell in this one and the secrets that they have both been hiding. While this is a duology, everything wasn’t wrapped up by the end of this book so maybe there will be another book

Yes! Love this duo - demon and angel, demons and angels, good versus evil, but is the good really good and evil really evil - and hey, let's root for the Hellcat! I loved these two novels - wish there were more!

I really like this book series, especially the contrast between the sarcastic, humorous demon and the stiff angel with narrow morals.

This story picks up where the last one leaves off. Things are heating up between our stoic angel and feisty demon ember as they start to realize that the chemistry that burns and shimmers between them can't be denied anymore.

I love that this story has those undertones that sing of remaining true to yourself, of not being afraid to live and love who you love. No matter the context, those messages are shine so clearly and really make this story.

enjoyed the book overall and duology as a whole was solid. i wish we had gotten to see the fallout on Heavens side from the soul stealing. That plot point didn’t feel finished to me.

i also wish we got to hear what the deal was with the lilithium that dax was stuck in. did that tie in at all with what else was happening or just a coincidence? the conclusion there felt pretty rushed. an epilogue to wrap everything up would’ve been nice

Couldn't wait to begin, so I did right away after reading the first! This one takes right off where the first ended. Enjoyed this one also! Lots of great characters. Fast paced with loads of sizzle! Thanks #netgalley and #ButterdragonsPublishing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

I got this as a arc book through Netgalley. This was a great sequel. Lots of action, a lil spice, some mystery, and even some new characters. I enjoyed it a lot. I definitely want a hellcat now.

Angel Falling picks up right where Demon Rising ends. Fane, Mihr, Kasha, Cam and Dax are hiding and trying to catch their breath somewhere in Namibia, but things are about to get complicated again as Angels and Demons are looking for Mihr and Fane, and Dax is dabbling into dark magic that might threaten his life.

This sequel is not bad, but somehow I struggled more to get into it. It’s as if I knew what would happen so I didn’t see the point in reading the book. I can’t really explain it… Maybe I just was not in the right mood for it, but I knew that no matter the obstacles, I knew everyone would get their HEA.

The plot in this book revolves around Dax needing help because he used dark magic and around the fact that some Archangels are creating their own army and stealing souls to do so. I cared about Dax and wanted him to be okay, but I did not care that much about the Archangels’s evil plan. The information was just thrown there at the end of the first book and was not expanded in this book. We just know that they are doing something bad and Mihr wants to go find God to tell him, but that’s about it. I feel that this plotline was really underdeveloped and because of that I didn’t really care whether or not they stopped the Archangels.

Mihr calling Fane and Kasha “his girls” melt my heart. The romance and interactions between Mihr and Fane are not as important as in the first book though. The main focus is saving Dax and the whole relationship is relayed to the back of the line. Which is not bad, but one thing that I enjoyed about the first book was the snark and banter and hate-to-love, so I missed that part. Fane and Mihr both have insecurities that they need to work through, but thankfully they are learning how to better communicate together so there was less frustration due to the miscommunication and one character thinking the other does not care and all that drama.

Fane remains quite the same in this book, Mihr changed a bit, he is more open-minded and less conceited, but besides that I wouldn’t say that there is much character development. There is a new secondary character that is interesting, but again, he was not that interesting.

Overall this is a good sequel, but I feel that some issues are left unresolved. I don’t know if the author wanted to leave the door open for a potential third book, even if this is listed as a duology. I am satisfied with the ending, but I did not enjoy this book as much as the first one.

4 stars - It was really good

This book picks up right where the previous one left off. Mihr and Fane are hiding from the demons and angels with Cam and Dax. While Fane wants to just relax and hide, Mihr is determined to try and put a stop to the angel compound. Unfortunately, their plans quickly change when the effects of the magic Dax has been using is revealed.

Just like the first book, I was instantly sucked into this story. Fane and Mihr finally admit their feelings for each other! Yes, there were some insecurities that they had to work through but it just made their love even stronger. Also, I loved that while Fane was her usual sassy self, she also became willing to fight for others outside of those she loved.

“By all that is rock and metal, I love you, Mihr.”

While I love that they finally admitted their feelings for each other, their relationship wasn’t really the main focus of this book. This focused more on the battle between Heaven and Hell and saving Dax. There were still some very romantic and touching scenes with Mihr and Fane, but it was more on them just finally admitting to all the feelings that were in the first book.

Overall, this was a wonderful sequel. I loved how the expansion of Heaven and Hell in this one and the secrets that they have both been hiding. While this is a duology, everything wasn’t wrapped up by the end of this book so maybe there will be another book.

Nice read, it had a great chemistry between the hero and heroine and the story was entertaining and engaging. I will be reading the rest of this series!!

Angel Falling is the perfect follow up to Demon Rising and provides readers with the HEA we all hoped for as Mihr and Fane finally acknowledge their feelings. This story was action-packed, and adrenaline fuelled focusing on their enemies, battles and saving Dax more so than their romance. That's not to say that the romance wasn't there, it just doesn't take the front seat through the whole book. The banter between Fane and Mihr continues, and it only adds to the overall enjoyment of this story. I’m hoping there may be more books set in this world later on.
