This was a cute little read. The world building was pretty decent, and the story overall amusing. This could be a hit with younger readers.

I thought that this book was exciting to read and that the worldbuilding and writing was okay. The characters were a bit hard to relate to, but I don't think kids will have a hard time with this book.

This was infuriating. The characters have no personality, the 'before the adventure starts'. worldbuilding has no details beyond "a town shrouded in mist." We know that Roda lives in a house, goes to school, has a mom and an aunt and... that's it really? she has no defining characteristics. There are some cool worldbuilding details once the adventure begins, but we don't have a frame of reference for them. Roda doesn't really make any decisi0ns, whenever she needs motivation she thinks "what would my aunt do?" without having to think about what she would do.

The worst part is that the entire plot is a [spoiler] that undermines everything and doesn't provide any answers. But it happens late enough in the book that you find yourself reading the whole thing only to find out at the end.

I really wish I hadn't wasted the time I did reading this.

*Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for providing an early copy for review.

I enjoyed the magical aspect of this story = and that the characters go on an adventure. Roda learns to become confident in herself and her actions; while Ignis also finds the courage to take a stand. Loved this debut that will take readers on a wonderful adventure.

This is a very original and suspenseful fantasy. A shapeshifting cow? This one is an easy sell to middle grade fantasy fans.

The Prince of Nowhere is a fast-pace and engaging novel! The world-building is very magical and full of fantastical creatures. The story has many mysteries and each chapter is full of cliffhangers which makes the reader wanting to continue reading! I really loved both Roda and Ignis. They were very fun characters, and I loved their banter. The only thing I did not like about this novel was that the time travel was very confusing. Still, I can’t wait for a sequel because I want more of Roda and Ignis! I recommend this novel for fans of Into the Dim, The Girl from Everywhere, and The Keys of the Watchmen!

This book just was okay. I'd definitely recommend it to fantasy fans, but I had trouble relating to the characters. Ignis in particular annoyed me.

I haven’t read middle-grade fantasy in quite a bit, but this was such a lovely surprise! It was such a quick and easy read, and I adored it! The worldbuilding was incredibly detailed and intricate, and I loved learning about Nowhere and everything in between. Everything was filled with such magic, and I enjoyed the whole way through. The plot was suspenseful, and I couldn’t stop reading. It was exciting and fun, and was a whole rollercoaster of emotions. Plus some of the plot twists and cliffhangers there had my jaw DROPPED. I was on the edge of my seat, and I found myself unable to put it down. At first, I was nervous I’d find reading characters so much younger than me not to hit, but I ended up connecting with characters I didn't expect. Overall, it was a great read!

This middle grade fantasy is the perfect mix of Ghibli-esque whimsy with a touch of darkness that's sure to be fascinating to readers in this age group or even adults who like MG!

The world-building was so intricate and utterly swept me away, with beautiful prose keeping me enraptured. I loved the dynamic between Roda and Ignis so much. My one complaint is that I want to read more in this world and more does not exist!

This book is absolutely BRILLIANT! I loved it so much I bought a copy for my 11YO and one for his friend. Rochelle Hassan has woven an intricate world complete with fascinating magic system, and the characters leap off the page. The mystery of who the sender of the letters had me guessing until the pivotal moment. The twists were brilliantly done and perfectly set up. I'm looking forward to reading all of Rochelle's future books, and will eagerly be pressing THE PRINCE OF NOWHERE into the hands of readers.

The Prince of Nowhere is Hassans first novel for middle grade fantasy. While I found it to be an interesting read and I hope that middle grade reader will enjoy it but it might be a bit complicated.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was an interesting story. It starts by jumping right into the mystery, and believe me, there is a lot of mystery to unravel. The world building is good, though complex and I'm not sure I fully understood everything. There was a lot to wrap my head around.
The main characters were an interesting pair. I feel for Roda and the heavy weight upon her shoulders. No one so young should have to carry that. Ignis was a stubborn pain in the butt most of the time, but my heart did break for him too.
It wasn't my favorite book, but it kept me interested and it kept me reading. I feel like this world is so vast, and complex, and so much was untapped that many more books could take place in it, whether they are related or not.

Huge thank you to Harper Collins and HCC Frenzy for the e-arc of this book to read.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This wholly original MG fantasy masterfully walks the line between delivering magical flash and fireworks the genre demands while also crafting intricately thoughtful, tangibly honest relationships between the characters, all while providing the reader a true, "read that section again"-level twist that rewards readers who have been paying attention the whole time.

Spoiler-free synopsis; Roda lives in a mist-shrouded city with her feverous mother and adventurous aunt, awaiting the one-per-decade arrival of comet that streaks across the sky. But when she starts receiving anonymous notes portending things that haven't happened... yet, she saves and befriends a shape-shifting crow boy named Ignis and realizes something big is coming. Roda and Ignis are compelled to follow clues out into the mists, where monsters live and few return, to search out a way to reach the fabled comet and potentially save those they love.

Along the way, the reader is treated to marvels like mist-breathing frost dragons, tiny AI personas that can inhabit any machine and even time travel turned in on itself; they are all elements that make Rochelle Hassan's debut truly stunning and an absolute winner for readers who want their fantasy tales to be a mixture of conventional and cutting edge, with equal parts magic and meaningful connections.

** I received this as an E-ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review, Thank you!**

I had a great time reading this book. This went a little darker than I thought it would for a middle grade but it worked here. I'll admit that it took me a little to really get invested in the story and the characters, but once I did man was it great. I would highly recommend this middle-grade fantasy book. It's a great time and keeps you on the edge of your chair to find out what happens next!

This is going firmly on the shelf of most beloved middle grade fiction along with books like Howl's Moving Castle and The Chrestomanci Chronicles, and movies like Labyrinth and Spirited Away. I am just blown away. The world building in this book is just... indescribable, it's so good.

And excuse me, this is Rochelle Hassan's debut novel? No freakin' way. I would have never guessed this was a debut, it's so masterfully written. The characters are all unique individuals (and I obviously fell head over heels in love with Ignis, but in a love you like a son kind of way and not a romantic way obviously, because I am an old lady and that would be creepy).

The reading level for this book is perfect for the upper elementary ages, but the content is enjoyable for everyone, ever.

Thank you so much to HarperCollins Canada and Netgalley for the eARC! I haven’t read middle-grade fantasy in quite a bit, but this was such a lovely surprise! It was such a quick and easy read, and I adored it!

The worldbuilding was incredibly detailed and intricate, and I loved learning about Nowhere and everything in between. From time travel to Aethons, it was filled with such magic, and I enjoyed the whole way through.

The plot was actually quite suspenseful, and once I really got into it, I couldn’t stop reading. It was exciting and fun, and was a whole rollercoaster of emotions. Plus some of the plot twists and cliffhangers there had my jaw DROPPED. I was on the edge of my seat, and I ended up reading a bunch of it in one sitting.

At first, I was afraid I’d find reading characters younger than me to feel strange, but I ended up connecting with both Roda and Ignis. They were absolutely adorable and such a treat to read about! Roda was a little hard to figure out at first, but I loved her determination and strength, as well as her kind heart. Ignis was such a little cinnamon roll himbo that was just adorable to read about, and I felt so bad for him with all that he went through.

Overall, it was a great read! I would recommend it for those who are new to reading and are around 9-12 as its short and fun! Again, thank you so so much to HarperCollins for the early copy and the book is officially released everywhere! 4/5 stars :)
