Addie goes out of town to bid on a closing library’s contents. She ends up making a major purchase, but then finds herself deep in a new murder mystery, with she and Paige being the top suspects. As usual, I liked all the book talk and the mystery behind it. Elliott prolongs the agony of whether there will be a big development between Simon and Addie. A surprise awaits one of Addie’s closest friends.
I thought the mystery part was a bit shallow, but I enjoyed the updates on the main characters.

Addie leaves Catherine in charge of Beyond the Page Bookstore while she and Paige go to nearby Pen Hollow to a book sale at the library there which is closing. The Pen Hollow mayor, Lu, is anxious to sell all the books, furniture, and a bookmobile. Addie decides to purchase the bookmobile, and while looking through it finds four books which are not part of the library and are very valuable. After purchasing several pieces of furniture and boxes of books, they agree to stay for supper, where she meets her high school boyfriend, Tony, who had suddenly disappeared their senior year. Tony is quite wealthy now, and the valuable books had belonged to his aunt. He is also a famous author of gothic horror novels. Meanwhile, Lu has driven the bookmobile into a wall and Lu is dead.

The autopsy shows that Lu was poisoned. The local Sheriff, Jack Turner, has decided that Addie and Paige as outsiders must have murdered Lu, because it couldn't possibly be a local. Marc and Simon have showed up and Simon did the autopsy. Thus, Addie and Paige have to find the culprit in order to be able to leave town! They make a list of all the possible suspects, beginning with the librarian, Patricia, and her assistant, Bea, who will be losing their jobs and had hoped to at least keep the bookmobile. The murdered woman had had a fling with the Sheriff, and they added the Sheriff's wife to the suspect list. Lu had changed when she became mayor, and now has several people who don't like her, including the pharmacist she used to work with.

Meanwhile, Addie's best friend and Marc's sister, Serena, is due to have her baby any day and Addie wants to get back home to be with her when she delivers. There is a lot excitement as one gets close to the end of the book, but the real culprit is a total surprise!

This is the first book I’ve read in this series but there was enough background that I never felt lost. I like the characters and the story never dragged. And the twist at the end was really different.

Addie's bought a bookmobile! She didn't plan to- she and Paige only planned to buy books from the library in Pen Hollow but what a find! Well, at least until the mayor Luella crashes the bus into a wall and dies- dies of poison! Unfortunately, Addie and Paige become suspects but of course they didn't do it and therefore they must investigate. Addie's ex Marc, a law enforcement officer, and Simon, her current love interest come from Greybourne Harbor to help out. And what about Tony? I like this series for the way Elliot weaves a book into the plot; in this case it's A Child's Garden of Verses. It's classic cozy territory and while perfectly readable as a standalone, fans will be most pleased to see these characters again. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

A Margin for Murder by Lauren Elliott (Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery #8) 4 stars

Addie Greyborne, owner of Beyond the Page Bookstore is on the hunt for a bargain. In the neighboring town of Pen Hollow, the library is closing and selling their entire collection along with furniture and fixtures. Addie and her assistant are set to buy stock for the store. In addition, to the books the library is selling their bookmobile and Addie sees an opportunity to operate a traveling bookshop for the summer festivals. While examining the bookmobile, Addie finds several rare and first editions; among them a first edition of the Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses. Who would put such valuable books inside a bookmobile? Before she can even think mystery, the bookmobile is damaged in a car crash and the driver is dead. An autopsy reveals death by poison and Addie is now the prime suspect. Addie must find the real killer or start thinking about working in the prison library.

This was a very fun and fast read. The mystery was diabolical and surprising. I especially enjoyed the interactions between the regular characters. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for this ARC

This is book 8 in the series and an interesting addition. Who knew that going to a book sale, and deciding on buying some furniture pieces could end up with you buying a bus (!!) and getting involved in a murder? Defintely not Addie! Then to get stuck in town and not able to leave, while under suspicion? Even worse, but with her beau and her former beau to the rescue, she knows this crime will be solved. But a few twists leave the girls on their own in more ways than one! A fun page turner, fans of the series will love this addition, and new fans will easily slide into the series with this stand alone!

Addie and Paige venture to a library sale in neighboring Pen Hollow and wind up stuck there after the mayor dies. That’s a pretty good opening line. It makes you wonder about Pen Hollow and why Addie and Paige would need to stick around.
Margin For Murder is the 8th Addie Greyborne adventure or foray into solving mysteries. This one plays out differently from past books, and I have to say I liked it. Addie while eager to solve the latest puzzles acted more like an adult than in some of the past books. It felt like there were good reasons for her actions and explanations for when she was potentially overreacting to some situations.
There are three men taking Addie’s time and attention in Margin For Murder - Tony, her high school flame; Marc, her first potential match at the beginning of the series; and Simon, doctor, surgeon and current flame with maybe potential for more? I’m not always in favor of this kind of situation but it worked well in the dynamic of this story. And things work out well in the end.
There were more pieces of Addie’s life that were revealed and she learns some new things about her aunt from whom she inherited the house in Greyborne Harbor.
I think this book is best enjoyed if you have read the other books in the series.
I was surprised by how the mystery worked out. I’m not sure I’ve read a cozy mystery with this particular solution before. Hopefully that will wet your appetite for more. I recommend Margin For Murder.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book prior to publication.

Addie Greyborne leaves her bookstore, Beyond the Page Books and Curios, in the capable hands of her assistant while she travels to Pen Hollow to attend a book sale at a library that is closing due to lack of funding. But the real find is a bookmobile bus, which she’s excited to use as a traveling bookstore during all the summer festivals. While inspecting the bookmobile, Addie finds several classic first editions. But before the bookmobile can be delivered to Addie, the bus is involved in a fatal car crash. When an autopsy reveals poison in the victim’s system and the first editions go missing, it’s up to Addie to determine what would drive someone to murder.
This was a very interesting whodunit because the story took place away from the usual setting. Even though the mystery was puzzling, and the romantic subplot was sweet, I didn’t really connect with the book as much as I wanted to. I missed the bookstore setting and the characters in town. I didn’t like the way the Pen Hollow police department was represented. I felt that the police chief was portrayed as backwards and severely close-minded. I do want to continue with this series. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the advanced reader’s copy. This review is my unbiased opinion.

It’s always sad when a library closes, but it certainly made for a good storyline. There are so many possible suspects and I think they might all be justified. Love the characters and their interactions with each other. I liked that we have those characters that we love to dislike. I also like the twists and turns that were thrown in. I can’t wait to hang out with Addie, Simon, Serena, Paige, Catherine and of course Pippi again. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.

This was an entertaining read with a great twist which I did not see coming!

Addie and her friend Paige visit a neighbouring town to buy books for the Behind the Page Bookstore. They actually end up buying a library bus complete with books but all does not go well. Someone dies from Aconite poisoning and our pair of friends find themselves at the top of the suspect list.

Addie contrives to have three men after her at once, current boyfriend Simon, past boyfriend but still in love with her Marc, and blast from the past, Tony. Everyone manages to behave properly and it all ends well. Very well actually!

The mystery has a most unexpected ending and then a few romantic moments round the story off beautifully.

This was a good story, but Addie's insecurities bugged me. I've never understood women who are so focused on getting a ring or whatever. Beyond that, it was a good mystery with lots of side stories thrown in. I didn't see the ending coming. Excited for this series to continue.

Having a bad day for the average person is spilling food on their favorite shirt, being late to a meeting or getting yelled at by someone, but for Addie and Paige it means going shopping for books and ending up accused of murder! Addie and pals have to get the investigation under control in a hurry or Addie and Paige are going to end up on trial for a crime they didn't commit. This cast of characters is so well developed that you feel like you are visiting old friends rather than just reading another story! The plot is well woven and with enough red herrings to keep you guessing and just when you think you have it all figured out, nope another direction will open up! I loved this book! It may be my favorite in the series, although I think I have said that same thing the last 3 books or so! I can't recommend this series to you enough, you definitely should have it on your must read list if you don't already! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book as things are definitely heating up in multiple characters lives to keep things interesting!

In search of books and curios for her shop, Beyond the Page Books, Addie Greyborne travels to a book sale at a library, being forced to close. So Addie buys the bookmobile bus to convert into a traveling bookstore for summer festivals.

An unfortunate accident occurs before the bus is delivered, and Addie finds herself involved in murder and rare book theft. Lauren Elliott crafts a fascinating mystery for this bookseller’s 8th adventure.

Oh what a tangled web she weaved. These was a wonderful continuation of the the series. Very interesting plot twist.

I always enjoy an Addie mystery and the Greybourne Harbor crew, but I had a harder time with this title than I usually do. The mystery was inventive and, ultimately, satisfying, but because the series has been going for so long, Elliott has had to get more creative to fool Addie (and the reader), which made some of the twists harder to follow. There were conversations where I didn't follow the logical leaps, but overall, an enjoyable read.

A whodunnit that will leave you guessing till the very end.

And isn't that what makes a great mystery? Lauren Elliott is one of those authors that writes well-thought-out mysteries. The story is long enough to keep you entertained and engaged.

The characters are fun and relatable.

It sounds like a lovely library that had to be closed due to lack of funding. Addie is the suspect just because she is from out of town. Addie is working with Marc on this one, since it is out of his jurisdiction and he wants to keep an eye out for her. The mystery kept me guessing.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the book. Addie , the Amateur sleuth, is amazing as is her helper Paige. They are off to a Library sale a few towns over and is where Paige's sister lives and they are staying at her house as they aren't home.. They buy a lot of books and a Bookmobile. Luella sells them the bookmobile and when she goes after it she goes to drive it back and is killed in an accident. Because Addie bought it she and Paige are the prime suspects. See how they get out of this one. The best of the series thus far. A VERY GOOD READ,

This is one happy, surprising whodunit. In Lauren Elliott's eighth book of her Beyond the Page Bookshop Mystery, A Margin for Murder, amateur sleuth Addie Greybourne and her bookshop assistant manager, Paige Stringer find themselves dealing with much more than a closing library book sale. They end up being prime suspects in the murder of Pen Hollow mayor Luella Higgins. The road to solving this murder mystery is full of twists and turns. I loved the surprising solution to the mystery. And all the wonderful surprises at the end of the book.
