This was a fun, quick read. I've read the other books in the series, and I think this was in my top two from the series. I liked that Kerrelyn wrote this one about the next generation so we got to see a little of the original characters and how they are doing about 20 years later. If you've enjoyed the previous books in this series, you'll like this one.

When a Princess Proposes is the beginning of the next generation. I would read the others in the series because the amount of world building and previous characters mentioned, but it not necessary.
This one to be honest wasn't my fav. It felt very different from the others in the series. The storyline didn't really grab my attention as much. I'm still curious to see if the series will continue.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Well that simply awesome! I enjoyed every page, but honestly I don’t think I have ever read anything by this author that I didn’t love. The characters were written flawlessly the development of the story was perfectly executed. The steam level about 3/5 but the romance sweet. You honestly can’t go wrong with this book. Yes t is part of a series, but you could probably read it as a stand alone, but it may just make you want to go all the way back to the beginning, trust me you won’t be disappointed.

I was so excited to learn that Kerrelyn Sparks was adding to the world of the Embraced and jumped at the chance to read an advanced copy of the newest book When a Princess Proposes. The series continues with the children of the Embraced fighting against new enemies and old grudges. Twenty years have passed since the conclusion of the last book, and the leaders have ruled a peaceful land. However, a new threat is exposed when the Embraced begin to die under unusual circumstances.

Princess Eviana has been sheltered and overprotected since she gained her powers, which are kept hidden. Isolated and raised to fear her power, Eviana longs for freedom. Quentin is an Embraced spy who has the ability to shift into an eagle. He has loved Princess Eviana for years but is not of noble birth and feels unworthy. Can he keep his feelings in check when he and Eviana, along with two others, travel and work together to find out who is targeting their kind?

I loved Eviana and Quentin. They are such layered and interesting characters, and I found both of their stories compelling. Though their lives were very different, they share many of the same feelings about their circumstances. However, their personalities are very different, and there are definite grumpy/sunshine vibes between the two. Eviana is so optimistic, extroverted, and expressive. Quentin is quiet, brooding, and solitary. They seem like opposites, but for some reason, they work.

The romance between Aviana and Quentin is slow-building, high angst, and filled with chemistry. The banter between this pair is fabulous. They have so many great conversations, some funny and teasing, and others serious, intimate, and vulnerable, and their love story is fantastic. Of course, their budding relationship is not without its obstacles, both internal and external, especially when it comes to Quentin’s doubt and feelings of unworthiness. I like that Aviana takes charge and fights for what she wants and shows Quentin just how worthy he is. There is another romance in the story that is equally lovely, though it is more of a friends-to-lovers story. The way one finds out about the other’s feelings is super swoon-worthy, and the professions of his feelings throughout the story are fantastic.

I also really liked the secondary characters, especially Lady Olana. She has an amazing gift and is feared by many. Like the protagonists, Olana lives a solitary and lonely life, and I so wanted her to find happiness. The story also includes many of the primary characters from other Embraced books, and I really enjoyed learning what happened to these couples. Since twenty years passed between the last book and this one, you really get to see how their relationships have grown and changed, and they are all wonderful additions to this story.

There’s another fascinating character, and I don’t want to go into too much detail and spoil anything, but the moral greyness of this person is perfection. I love characters with redemption arcs, and his road to redemption is brave and honorable. I have a feeling we’re going to see a lot more of this Enchanted as the series continues. The character goes through so much in the story, and his realizations and lessons learned are very powerful. I think this character and his arc highlights the nefarious manipulations and abuse of the villains. His story also shows how effective some are at brainwashing and using propaganda for their own personal gain and desire for power.

The majority of the story finds Eviana, Quentin, Olana, and one other on an amazing journey where they learn more about themselves, each other, their world, and their enemies. They uncover treacherous plots and are thrust into increasingly dangerous and deadly situations. The suspense and intrigue slowly build to a nail-biting climax, and no one is safe. It’s an exciting romance with magic, action, intrigue, dragons, shifter, unique powers, and an epic romance, and it entertained me from beginning to end. I loved the characters and the romances and can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Thanks so much to Kensington Books, NetGalley, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Love love love this book! Will be on my favorites list

I didn’t know there were two previous books in this series before I started reading. Everything was explained quickly and efficiently so I didn’t feel like I was missing anything though. This can absolutely be read as a stand-alone and these are different characters

Page one this story begins with unrequited love and I’m instantly hooked and rooting for Quentin

There is a huge focus on romance but still a great storyline, which is exactly what I want from a book. The ending did feel a bit rushed, I wish we could have seen more of their happiness

Eviana and Quentin are both so charming and adorable. They seemed to act a bit young for their ages but I got past that because I liked them so much

A little spice would have been nice since these are adults(23 & 29) but I’m just being picky

Something I really loved, this book is FUNNY, it had me smiling so much

Looking forward to the possibility of Bran(& Lenushka’s?) story

*thank you so much to Kerrelyn Sparks and Kensington Books for giving me a copy of the book for review*

Yes!! Kerrelyn Sparks is back! When a Princess Proposes is utterly fantastic. Only few author can blend humor, paranormal and fantasy worldbuilding, romance, and intrigue, but Sparks is one of the best!

Another good Embrace story about Princess Evie and Quin who is a spy.

Good read.
Voluntarily reviewed.

I usually read Kerrelyn's paranormal, so I was intrigued to find this fantasy title. Princess Evie and Quen are a sweet couple who deserve each other. Enjoyable read with a bit of suspense. I found the villain Bram very redeemable and would like to see him find his HEA too.
nicely written and the story moves forward at a good pace.

Looking forward to other books in this world of Enhanced people where anything is possible.

3.75 out of 5 stars

I was so excited to get approved for this book, "When a Princess Proposes" after reading the first two books in the series. I loved getting to see more for this world and the foreshadowing which alluded to possible future books involving the characters mentioned here. I also liked that there was a sort of "overview" of what happened in the previous books. This is very helpful for someone like me who forgets a book's details the second they read another.

Princess Eviana is not allowed to use her power of the Embraced. Her parents want her to wed and the castle is filled with noblemen whom she shows no interest in. That is until she meets Quentin who is an eagle shifter but also a royal spy. Quentin reveals many nobleman's secrets and leads Eviana into working with him to uncover a grave secret running about the kingdom.

When I saw Kerrelyn Sparks was publishing a new book, I was excited. I have read many of her books in the past and thoroughly enjoyed them.

When a Princess Proposes begins with a spy who falls for a princess. But he is no ordinary spy. Quentin is an embrassed, a person who has special gifts. His special gift is being able to transform into a eagle. As a child being embrassed caused him to be isolated from "normal" people and suffer horrible abuse. That was a long time ago, but he knows he is suitable match for a princess.

Eviana may be a princess, but her life is no fairy-tale. To keep her safe, her parents have kept her gift a secret. For Eviana, her family have isolated her and created a golden prison. She wants to be free.

When embrassed people are beginning to die in strange ways, Quentin and Eviana must team up to save them and catch the mastermind behind it all.

Since this is the first book in the series, the reader will find quite a bit of backstory to wade through. Sparks spread these throughout the book.

I enjoyed the characters. They are many introduced, but the main focus is on only a small group. By creating characters with different gifts, Sparks has began a series where many subgenre of fantasy romance can exist side by side. My favorite character was Olana, Anyone who touches her tells their secrets.

I also enjoyed reading about Raven. Raven can turn into a raven. Like Quentin, he uses his gifts to spy on others. At first he is a villain, but as the story progresses, he becomes a victim. I am looking forward to reading more about him.

For me, the characters and the possibilities for more books in the series increased my enjoyment. I can not wait to read more. Sparks has shifters. She has people can influence others with only their voice. Some characters can produce heat or ice. I like that it will not be the same story over and over again.

When a princess proposes

Netgalley provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

If you have read my reviews till this moment, you know that I don't kiss asses, even if those asses gave me a free book.

I have read other books by this author, so I know her work. And the previous times I enjoyed it. This was not the case now.

Firstly, I have to admit that I haven't read other books from this series, so the experience wasn't full, however, the author made sure the reader knew the story.

Our characters in this book are Princess Evienne, and one of the kingdom's guards- Quentin. The personages know each other from before, and while Evie didn't notice the existence of Quentin, Quen was madly in love with her for 6 years.

After a humiliating moment at one of the kingdom's balls, Evie makes Quen preposition, which he declines. But after a surprise attack against the princess, the guard needs to reconsider his choice, cause both of them, along with friends, go on an adventure - seeking the person who caused the attack.

The book can be described with one word - frustrating. The whole experience of reading it was like torture. And the reason is simple - nothing happens. I felt like the book tried to bore me to hell. No spice (surprise, surprise), no romance (til like 50% of the book).

Don't get me wrong, the writing was wonderful, but the story was way too slow, and at times I wanted to skim over parts (which I never do)

The characters were mostly interesting and I liked reading about Quen, Olana, and Bran (these three were my favourites).

Evie - Jesus, this girl was so innocent and naive, it physically hurt my eyes to read her parts. I think her main treats were innocence and stubbornness. That's it. I can't believe she fell in love with Quen for less than a week.

Quen aka "The blasted man" - I actually liked his character. He was probably one of the most realistic and sane male characters (in a way of thinking) in the genre. He realised she found him attractive, and he knew she liked the sexual tension between them. And I think at the end the author did dirty to him - cause <spoiler> their marriage was way too fast, and he acted way too desperately to have her </spoiler>

Honourable mention to Bran - which story I would like to read, cause I found him really interesting. <spoiler>And I was rooting for him and his brothers, so the end broke my heart</spoiler>

The other characters in the books can be described with one word - confused. Cause every second word, coming out of their mouths was "what".

The sexual tension in the second part of the book was really hot, but the spicy scenes were underwhelming and disappointing.

I didn't like the end, and I was screaming at the book when <spoiler> The dumb bitch Eviana was caught in Bran's trap.</spoiler>. And the end felt too rushed when the other part of the book felt too slow.

So in the end, I am willing to give it 2 stars - one for Quen, and one for Bran, cause they truly got my heart.

I received this book as an ARC, this does not influence my review. This book is best read as a series, if you don't you will most likely be confused and overwhelmed with the characters. I loved the romance, did not like the male POV, and I loved the author's writing style and attention to detail. My review is my opinion, and it definitely does not mean that this book is bad.

What I loved:
- ROYALS
- bodyguard trope (ish)
- friends to lovers
- sweetest book boy ever
- it was the perfect mix of plot, dialogue, romance and world building
- unrequited love (misunderstanding trope)
-PRINCESS WITH DEADLY POWERS (that she is not supposed to use ;) )

Overall, this was such a fun and easy read, I don't know if you can read this as a standalone? Since this story is about the second generation of the people from the previous books. I just think there are a lot of names brought up that you wouldn't know or be able to keep up with (especially since it is a fantasy book)

rate: 5/5

Third in the Embraced by magic series. This is the third book but the characters are so strongly identified you will have no trouble reading this as your first story.
There is trouble brewing has the Circle of Five been reborn? Quentin had been waiting 20 years since he had first seen Princess Eviana but been an illegitimate child he believed he had no future with her. Brought up on the Isle of Secrets the embraced who have unusual magic and shifter capabilities find themselves the hunted. There is a fine line between good and evil and the dark characters hopefully will shine in future stories.
I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Embraced series continues with the children of the Embraced who stopped the evil Brotherhood many years ago. However, visions of the future warn of trouble brewing and a new adventure begins. Eviana, daughter of Leo and Luciana, has an ability that has been kept a secret since its discovery. She has been keep isolated in many ways. Her parents would like her to marry, but none of the suitors are "suitable". Quentin can shape shift into an eagle and is a spy and messenger for the kings and queens. He has worked hard to get to where he is today. He has been in love with Evie for years, but believes himself unworthy of her, mostly because of his birth parents. However, the return of the Brotherhood forces Evie and Quentin to spend more time with each other, where they gather information they can use and give to the kings and queens. The Brotherhood has been busy since their fall from power and new heroes will have to rise to stop the new threats. An enjoyable read!
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Quentin has been in love with Princess Eviana for years but he is not a royal, Princess Eviana has felt sheltered her entire life and longs to break free. When the opportunity arises she steps up and fights for her chance to help her family and experience the freedom she so desperately needs. She enlists Quentin and two of her loyal servants to assist her on this dangerous journey. I truly enjoyed this story, it was quirky but engaging in so many ways, All the characters were interesting and you even wanted to fight for some of the bad guys and hope they would have a happy ending along with everyone else. At every turn their was danger and excitement and it kept the me very interested it what was going to happen next.

I was fascinated by the fairytale like world build in the novel. I quickly feel in love and couldn’t wait to see how Quentin and Eviana relationship would develop. We got the right amount on misunderstanding, cheesy lines to swoon over, and a dash o spicy to to make this romance complete.

This fast passed novel was truly a delight, even after discovering mid-reading that this is part of a series. Must have slipped when was perusing what to read. Most importantly my reading and understanding of the story was not altered, probably those that have read would be glad to see characters they know already. However, it can be read as a standalone easily.

I also found refreshing that we have author that understand characters are people! I mean that go to the toilet, eat, sleep. Makes their journey from place to place more real. As real as a book with gifted people that can shift to animal, trip you or confess your most guarded secret could get.

I’ve really enjoyed this series and this was a great addition to it. I don’t think it would make much sense if you read it as a stand-alone, but the whole series is worth a read.

This book focus on Eviana, who is part of the second generation of characters in the series. She’s not allowed to use her Embraced gift that she possesses, and her parents are trying to marry her off. After a series of suspicious events, here comes spy Quentin, who knows he shouldn’t love Eviana, but they need to figure out what’s going on with the attacks against the Embraced.

This is such a fantastic series. In all the books, including this one, there’s action, suspense and romance. It was fun to see Leo and Luciana’a daughter get her story, and see past characters 20ish years later. We got some new secondary characters and I hope we’ll get more books with their stories. The one and only issue with this book is sometimes the characters seem a bit immature.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I will admit my disappointment in this title even as a third in a series. This read more like a children’s book and not an adult. I have read some titles by this author so this was a surprise. Take out the smexy times and there you go. Just the power that Evie has and how they treated her like she couldn’t control it. It was a struggle to finish.

What a great adventure! Dragons and shifters, princesses in disguise. So much going on. I absolutely love it. The confessor was such a unique gift and I’m so glad Quin stayed her friend. It was so heartbreaking thinking about her all alone because everyone feared her. And of course the princess, being so thoughtful and caring, befriended her without fear. And the ending with the king was a surprise, but a very happy one. All in all, another great read by Sparks.
