Sunday at the Sunflower Inn by Jodi Thomas

What is better than a wonderful small-town romance? Exactly what happened in this book…more than one romance happening in that wonderful small town!

What I liked:
* The return to Honey Creek…the wonderful small town with romances happening
* The couples that found their HEA-HFN
* McCoy Mason: builder, loner, injured, just out of the hospital, rootless, in Honey Creek to heal with his crusty distant grandfather
* Sadler Mason: McCoy’s grandfather, owner of historical property, under pressure from big business to sell, a quiet man deeper than he appears
* John Mason: McCoy’s father…would like to get to know him better
* Melody Avenida: seventeen, in love, has controlling parents, in love with Mike
* Michael Alderton: Army Private, foster system graduate, loves Melody
* Jessica Ann Mackenzie – Jam – café owner, single, has dreams with roots in Honey Creek
* Tucson Smith – Army Sergeant, career military, CID officer, travels the world, big and a bit abrasive with a soft center – for Jam.
* Mr. Winston: so nice to catch up with this warm, generous, caring man and watching his journey with Miss Lilly
* Seeing how Pecos and his family are doing
* The “murder” mystery
* The Mason family history and learning why the land is so important to them
* The fairy girls and their story
* Doc Baylor Blanton: veterinarian, kind, loves animals, might have an interest in a cowboy that is not a cowboy
* Roberto and his cousin, Leo, that helped McCoy out in the beginning of the book
* That the story was believable, drew me in, made me care, and fall in love with the characters
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Everything I was meant not to like…won’t list the people or events but there were a few
* Having to wait for the next book in the series

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!

I loved this book. Normally, I'm not a fan of books that have multiple stories going on until they merge. However, this one is so well written that it just pulls you slowly into reading the whole book to see how it all ends. The characters are well developed so that you feel their joys and sorrows. I could not stop reading once I started. It left me feeling happy and hopeful.

I have to admit that I really like the way this story was crafted, although it did take me a little bit to get into.

Basically, there are four threads of stories going on here and they all intertwine and intersect as the book goes on. There is a lot happening - romance, family dynamics, hopes and dreams and small town life.

A very well written book, it made me wish I lived nearby because these people, mostly, are the kind of people I would like to be around.

I hope there is another book in the series because I would love to know what happens next with these characters!

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books.

I laughed at parts and didn't want to set this book down. There's several things going on at once from the very young to the very mature relationships. I think this is a keeper.

Jodi Thomas takes the reader back to small-town life and love in Honey Creek, Texas. McCoy Mason’s life falls apart just before he’s about to start a new job, when he wrecks his car, breaks his leg, and his fiancée abandons him. He just needs a place to heal, and the only option is the grandfather he’s never met. Sixty-seven-year-old Charles Winston is ready to embark on his first adventure with true love. The lady of his choice is the sweet Lilly Lambert, who is more than happy to be his fiancée. Jessica Ann Mackenzie, Jam to everyone, has her thriving restaurant and dreams to establish an inn in her ancestral home. But she doesn’t have a man of her own. When Sergeant Tucson Smith comes to town, he brings all kinds of opportunities, if she’s willing to take a chance. Melody might be young, but she knows her soldier Michael is her one and only. She’s determined to meet him in Honey Creek, despite her overprotective parents. Honey Creek offers the hope of new beginnings for them all.

Jodi Thomas’ gift for storytelling shines through in this latest book in the Honey Creek series. The reader feels like a part of the action as humor, pathos, and slices of life build a textured narrative. With so many characters, it can be difficult to give them all equal time. Yet their stories unfold and tie together beautifully. This book shows that love comes in different forms, and there is always hope to find a way to a sense of belonging and being loved. Jodi Thomas’s books are not to be missed for readers who love character based, involving and heart-warming stories.

Sunday at the Sunflower Inn is the fourth book in the Honey Creek series. There is something special about this series that pulls you in and doesn't let you go. In this book, are visited by some familiar friends and are introduced to some new ones that you will fall in love with.

One of my favorite settings in the book is the Honey Creek cafe. This is such a special place that leaves you feeling warm and invited. We had fun with Piper and her aunts early on so now we get the pleasure of getting to know Jessica Ann Mackensie or as everyone else calls her, Jam. I really liked her character. Her character will resonate with many women out there. She is one of those who take care of everyone but herself. She doesn't see how great she is. In the process of working hard to accomplish her right now, she has had her sights on a dream that she hasn't made a reality. She hasn't made the time to do what she really loves especially when it comes to the love department. After serving her guests on Valentine's Day, it became all of a reminder of how she is going to be old and alone. Her enthusiasm about love sort of gets challenged when an unexpected visitor comes crashes in her world.

We first meet Sargeant Tuscan in the beginning. He is one of the older brothers of Pecos. He didn't have a great background but what he became and his love for his brother really make him such a lovable person. I really loved the storyline between these two characters. These two characters deserve to be loved. As their story unfolds, you can't help but root for their hea.

Thrown in we get a little bit of young love to be. Melody is an innocent young lady whose parents micromanage her life. They have everything planned out and that doesn't include a dating life for her. She meets a young man a little older than her and does her best to keep it a secret. When her secret gets revealed, decisions are made that change the course of their lives.

There are two storylines that I absolutely loved in the book. One featured McCoy Mason. McCoy Mason came to Honey Creek after losing everything from an accident. With no roots or direction for his life, he takes a chance on Honey Creek to find his grandfather that he never met. The dialogue between his more bark than bite grandfather had me laughing out loud. These moments were probably some of the best moments in the book. I love how he came he with no expectations but found so much that he didn't think he deserved.

I was so happy to experience the journey of Mr. Winston. The love an compassion that he has for other people come back and give him the blessings that he deserve. The direction that we see his life go is so sweet and fulfilling. He is such a gentleman and allowing his second chance shows that the potential of love is ageless.

Overall, another wonderful book in the series. I was nervous about if there was another one coming in the series but there is and I can't wait to see who we get to meet next in Honey Creek. If you haven't read the series yet, start from the beginning. This book could be read as a standalone but for the sake of continuity and you don't want to miss out, start from book one. If you are a fan of the series, look for the next book to come out in Spring 2023.

I liked this book. It took a little while to get into it as each chapter was a different set of characters. But after reading the first chapters, I looked forward to each pair of characters. I love McCoy's grandfather and their interaction and Mr Winston and his Miss Lilly. So Sweet. The other two sets of characters were interesting, but those two pair were it for this book. After you got into the book, it flowed really quickly and was fun to read.

Another magnificent Honey Creek novel by Jodi Thomas. Her characters are charming and entertaining. In this unique episode we find Jessica Ann Mackenzie, better known as Jam, sitting by the Brazos River moaning about her life. Her cafe is booming, she has great friends, what else could a woman want? She hasn’t dated in a long time. She feels the odds of her finding love are not good. As she sheds tears, out of the muddy water pops a man. Although grimy and mud-caked he appears to be quite the guy - well built and wearing an army uniform. To top it off she watched as he stripped off his clothes. Oh my! This must be a dream, after all it is Valentine’s Day!!
With each chapter in this heartwarming sequel we find another loveable couple finding their way to each other. Sunday at the Sunflower Inn will be published by Zebra Books of Kensington Publishing Corporation on April 26, 2022. I truly appreciate their allowing me to read and review this latest Jodi Thomas novel via NetGalley. I am new to her fan club as I have only read a few of her stories but I am really hooked. Such pleasant reads. Do not miss this one and by all means, enjoy!

Pick this one up for a feel good read. Thomas has wound together the love stories of four couples and a small Texas town Into the sort of novel where you find yourself rooting for the characters. Nothing deep, no real trauma, no steam but golly it's a pleasure to read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Jodi Thomas has once again woven together multiple romances in the small town of Honey Creek. There are four couples in this one, three of them mature adults. The older couples' stories seemed to be more complete than that of the fourth couple so I will focus on them. The youngest couple included a girl who was still in high school, and her boyfriend who was leaving to join the military. I don't think it is necessary to have read the other books in the series in order to enjoy this one although several of these characters are in the previous books.

Jessica Ann McKenzie runs a restaurant in Honey Creek that is very successful but somehow, she has never met her special person - at least, one who stayed. Valentine's Day is coming and she is a little down about it, particularly since she is hosting a lot of couples that night. Then Sergeant Tucson Smith (brother of Pecos, who is the new mayor), shows up sopping wet practically at her feet. They are both single, approaching middle age, lonely and attracted to each other. They agree to keep it casual since Tucson is in the military and moves around a lot, and Jessica stays put in Honey Creek. That is the plan, anyway.

McCoy Mason is a hoot. Or a disaster, take your pick. He is heading to interview for a new job in Houston when he crashes his car, and all of his plans evaporate - the job, his new apartment, and his girlfriend. Fortunately, since he has broken his leg, his grandfather in Honey Creek whom he had never met agrees to take him in. I really liked his grandfather - he was my favorite character in the book. His grandfather lives alone in a cabin, and is having some trouble with people who want to force him to sell. McCoy initially thinks he has lost everything but just maybe he has found something better. Family, home, and an enduring love. His story is my favorite.

My second favorite was the older couple, Charles Winston III and Miss Lily Lambert. Charles had been widowed for a while and had a habit of taking three ladies out to lunch at the Honey Creek Cafe, something they all enjoyed. I was surprised several times by this very conventional couple. They were a delight.

I received an review copy of this book from publisher Kensington Books via NetGalley. It was a pleasure to read and review it.

Sunday at Sunflower Inn by Jodi Thomas is the fourth book in the Honey Creek series. I have been blessed to read the previous books in the series and I have enjoyed each one.
Ms. Thomas has four couples in this one who are all at different times in their relationships. From young love,Mike and Melanie, "Jam" MacKenzie and Tucson Smith are in middle age and still single, McCoy Mason and Baylor Branton are in their late twenties or early thirties, and Mr. Winston and Lily are the senior lovebirds who are experiencing love for the first time. Ms. Thomas' writing flows so well and is so descriptive that I felt like I was with each character as they were living and loving throughout the book. A well-crafted plot, some mystery and intrigue, romance for all ages and all their lives begin to twine together by the end of the book. I laughed and I teared up while reading which, for me, is the best kind of book to read.

Sunday at Sunflower Inn by Jody Thomas is another amazing read. Jody never disappoints. Although it is part of a series it can be read alone. If you have been ready the series we get to meet one of Pecos brothers.
Tuscon is in town to attend the swearing in ceremony of Pecos becoming sheriff. The scene where Tuscon meets Jam is Jody at her best. She creates the most beautiful scenes. Tuscon is in the military and enjoys the travel and adventure. He ends up staying in town a couple more weeks to help Pecos solve a mystery.
We also meet Mason McCoy. What a mess this poor guy was. He is recovering from a car wreck which led to his fiancé leaving him and losing his job. He comes to town to stay with the grandfather he never knew while he heals. The scenes with him and his fairy girls were some of my favorites.
Charlie and Lily were precious. It was so touching to watch this older couple spend time together and share experiences.
Sunday at Sunflower in is Jody at her finest. She draws you in with some of the most amazing characters that you cannot help but find out how everything will work out.

#4 Honey Creek Series
A slice of Americana delivered with her characteristic warmth, endearing characters, and authentic Texan flair, the fourth Honey Creek novel by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jodi Thomas brings a sense of nostalgia to the town as some its older residents set out on a quest to realize dreams they long ago gave up on. Soon it seems the idea of chasing second chances is contagious as the rest of Honey Creek joins their journey…
Thanks to the author, Zebra, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I don't typically read romance or woman issue novels, but I was drawn to this title by the description and cover of the book.
I really enjoyed the book but wondered if I had read the entire series if it would have been better.
4 stars

Like most small towns life goes on which is how it is in Honey Creek. Sunday at the Sunflower Inn (Honey Creek #4) by Jodi Thomas clearly captures that by various storylines happening at the same time. It would be difficult to say one main and other subplots since all seem to be important to the overall novel. There is young love, older love and a second chance in this look the everyday events in this community.

Several stories that come seemingly effortless together by the conclusion of the book. It is wonderful how they do this. However, for some the many characters in addition to the main ones may be a bit confusing at times. Having lived in a small Southern town for over thirty years I can attest to the fact that it takes a while to get to know everyone. Still the connections are important so readers need to give it time.

Each book may seem like a stand-alone but I promise you keeping all the characters straight become easier as you continue to read the books. Do you need to stand with the first? Not necessarily. Sunday at the Sunflower Inn is a wonderful slice of small town America so why not start here.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a heartwarming book about the people that live in the small town of Honey Creek, from different generations, with each story is loosely connected to one another.

This is the first book I've read by Jodi Thomas, and I really enjoyed this, and look forward to reading more of her works.

This book was an enjoyable read. All of the characters in the book were people you’d like to be friends. The male characters all had unusual names: Pecos, Tucson, McCoy, and Sadler. I’d recommend this book.

Another great book from the talented author Jodi Thomas. This is the fourth book in the Honey Creek series. This book revolves around the interwoven stories of four couples in small-town Honey Creek, TX. Pecos is now sheriff and his first week is going to be one he cannot forget. The senior citizens of Honey Creek have decided to try their hand at protesting, photos of a "dead" soldier are found, and a teenage girl is rescued from drowning in the creek.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for a copy of this book for review.
