This was a fun cozy mystery featuring a grilled cheese restaurateur working to solve the mystery of her dead landlord, who happened to give Carly an eviction notice the day before. I picked this one based on the title and dog. I liked it a lot, it kept me guessing on whodunit. Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the advanced listening copy.

Does a grilled cheese eatery sound like a dream come true to you? Well, it does to main character Carly Hale who moves back to her hometown to open a new eatery that specializes in ooey-gooey, cheesy sandwiches! A small staff of dedicated employees and a and small town cast of characters make this story sing! The mystery was clever and the tone of the book light-hearted! I want to visit Carly’s Grilled Cheese Eatery again soon! Luckily, book 2 in the series, No Parm, No Foul, is due out in July of 2022! I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it and maybe a grilled cheese while I’m at it!

There is nothing like a new cozy mystery and Up to No Gouda by Linda Reilly was such a fun start to the Grilled Cheese Mystery series. Carley is our main character and she is the owner of a new tasty grilled cheese shop located in the center of town. After losing her husband starting her new business venture was the perfect way to begin to heal and and grow. However, an old boyfriend--Lyle, has become her new landlord and wants her out! As upset as Carley was, she would soon find Lyle dead!

The journey leading to find who killed Lyle was a wild ride and I was completely shocked with who the murderer was! Such a fun cozy mystery and I am looking forward for the series to continue!

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press, Netgalley, and Dreamscape Media for an early release of the audiobook of Up to No Gouda!

Up to No Gouda is the series start for a shopfront small-town cozy by Linda Reilly. Released 25th Jan 2022 by Poisoned Pen Press, it's 312 pages and is available in mass market paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is a promising start for fans of small town shopfront cozies. Protagonist Carly is a cafe owner with a shop that specializes in soup and grilled cheese in a myriad variations. The usual pool of small-town-oddball characters are present, there's skullduggery and hidden motives to be unearthed, and there's the hint of developing romance between Carly and a local guy.

Some of the characterizations and plot developments are admittedly a bit over the top and there are some twists which require a healthy suspension of disbelief, but all in all, it's a pretty good example of why the shopfront cozy subgenre is so popular. I found the denouement and resolution satisfying and well written. The language is squeaky clean and the violence is off-page and not very graphic.

The unabridged audiobook has a run time of 8 hours and 31 minutes and is narrated by Mia Gaskin. She has an interesting and nuanced voice with an American accent (sort of standard midwest, not an intrusive regional accent). She enunciates very well and although her voice is youthful (she's young), it doesn't detract from the read at all. The sound and production quality of the recording were high throughout.

Four stars. This would be a good light read for fans of cozies. It would be perfectly safe for work/commute reading. I'm interested to see what comes next for Carly and her friends. This is the sort of cozy with some recipes at the back of the book and this one includes some interesting twists on, of course, grilled cheese.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This was an excellent start to a new series! I really enjoyed the mystery of this one and the fantastic and extremely likable characters. The next in this series can't come soon enough for me!

The southern charm comes through with like a Bullfrog on a wedding cake. It does take a second to get to the murder and, maybe I just watched/read too many true crimes, but lass, that's not how you treat a crime scene. In this book, my biggest gripe is MC's annoying stupid. She naively believed she could open the store that day. She's one of the suspects, and so are her workers but she acts shocked. Making her an amateur works story-wise but makes me frustrated with MC. I zoned out halfway but, the ending brought me back. Very clean, no sex scenes, cus words, or sexist/racist comments. I will say I wasn't able to guess the killer.

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery! I had trouble keeping some of the characters straight, but overall, I liked the story. Maybe there were too many characters for the first book in the series?

This is the perfect cozy murder mystery! Carly is putting her life back together after her husband’s death, and has just opened a grilled cheese restaurant in the main square of her hometown. A day after serving Carly an eviction notice, her landlord is murdered in her restaurant’s parking lot pulling her into the case to try to uncover the killer. This book checks all the boxes: charming setting, fun relatable characters, loads of mouth watering cuisine descriptions, and an engaging plot. Thank you NetGalley for the Advanced Listening Copy.

Carly Hale is newly widowed and has decided to move back to her hometown to pursue her dream of having her own restaurant. Carly is looking forward to tourist season starting, but her new landlord has other plans. The day after giving Carly her eviction notice, Lyle Bagley ends up murdered in the parking lot of the Grilled Cheese Eatery. Lyle is always up to no good with his get rich quick schemes and has made a lot of enemies. Which means plenty of possible suspects! This cozy mystery will keep you guessing until the end!

After the death of her husband, Carly returns to Vermont to live out a dream.
Grilled Cheese has always been her comfort food and she wants to share it with others.
After only MONTHS of opening her grill, she is informed her lease is not being renewed.
As angry as she is, when the new building owner is found dead behind her store, Carly is not the prime suspect. However one of her best friends and employees is.
The victim is a man with a past involving many wronged parties, even relatives.
So many motives, but who had the opportunity and temperament to kill him?

I enjoyed meeting a whole new community of characters. Some you liked or disliked immediately and a few surprises are in store.
I enjoyed the narrator very much. It was a delight to listen to, curled up on my couch with a grilled cheese sandwich.
I am looking forward to more in this series.

I have to admit that I was first drawn to this book by the cover - a cute dog and a mystery that includes grilled cheese yes please! The main character, Carly, returns to her hometown after her husband passes away and fulfills her longtime dream of opening a grilled cheese restaurant. Business is thriving until she learns that her ex-boyfriend has bought the building and is terminating her lease. When he ends up murdered outside of her restaurant Carly is motivated to help solve the murder to clear the her friend and employee, Becca, who was charged with the murder. There were a lot of interesting supporting characters including my favorite, Grant, who also worked in Carly's restaurant.

The narrator, Mia Gaskin, was amazing and really brought the story and characters to life! I really look forward to both future books written by Linda Reilly and also to books narrated by Mia Gaskin.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advance copy of this audiobook.

Up to No Gouda (one of the cutest titles I’ve ever seen) is the debut novel of the equally as adorably named, Grilled Cheese Mystery series. I was able to listen to this fun novel and Reilly did a wonderful job developing the setting of small town Balsam Dell.

I really enjoyed the delicious concoctions Carly Dale, the amateur sleuth and owner of the Grilled Cheese Eatery served and the mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. The red herrings kept me off the path of figuring out who the actual killer was and it was overall a great audiobook to listen to.

With that being said, the protagonist did get herself into some outlandish situations that were really far fetched; making it hard to believe would happen. While I know this is fiction, I’ve recently read some cozy mysteries where the heroines solved the cases in a more realistic manner.

Thanks Dreamscape Media for the alc. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is the first book in the Grilled Cheese series. Carly has moved back home to open a grilled cheese shop following the death of her husband. However, things hit a snag when her new landlord wants to evict her. The landlord turns up dead shortly after delivering the eviction news to Carly and her staff. One of Carly's employees becomes the prime suspect. She does what she can to find out what happened. I loved the setting and the characters. The narrator does an excellent job bringing you into the author's world. This is definitely a series I would love to continue. I received this audiobook from dreamscape Media and Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

A grilled cheese shop is a fun new twist on the culinary cozy. This book starts slow and takes a while to get to the sleuthing. This series does have potential. 2.5 stars.

I enjoyed this mystery story with all of the characters. The main character was Carly Hale.

Carly Hale has return to the town that she grownup  as a kid after her husband death. Her dream is to open a Grilled Cheese Eatery. After five months the business is good but all that takes a turn when a old high school boyfriend buys the building that she is renting. He want her out. But the next morning Carly discovers him dead in the parking lot behind the dumpster. Now in order to save her eatery and also prove that her friend is innocent she will have to find out who is the murder.

This was a fun story to read and listen to. I had fun trying to guess who done it. It was quite a surprise. The narrative also did a good job reading the story.

I received a complimentary audio copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
