DNF this book. I could not get through it, I found it a little dry and not what I was expecting as it was not really solely focused on the artist, it was a bit more about the author than I expected

This book is a biography of a lesser-known American Canadian female painter, Mary Hiester Reid. I am an artist and studied art history in college, and have never heard of her. I was very curious about knowing more about her and her art. She was born in Pennsylvania in mid-19th century and specialized in flower paintings. She meets and marries a Canadian painter, George Agnew Reid, and together they travel and create art. This is a unique love story, well told and well researched. The author is a poet who was married to a writer, and it is a double biography of a sort as the author goes back and forth between MH Reid's life and her own life. This was a bit disorienting especially on an audiobook, I sort of wished that the book focused more on MH Reid's story and her art, plus more about her husband's art as I am sure they were each other's sounding board.
Another downside with the audiobook is lack of illustration (assuming there were some in physical book and Ebook versions). There may have been PDF attachments, but these were not easily accessible while I was listening to it. Otherwise I felt it was interesting, informative and well written. I struggle for rating as there is definite place for this sort of book, even though it wasn't entirely satisfying to me - I would say about 3.5 stars for me personally.

Thank you, NetGalley and ECW Press Audio for providing an early publication of this audiobook for honest review purposes. I truly appreciate it.

Another book better in physical, the audio is too much. I want to revisit this one in physical. I am glad I was given the chance to read this
