Gabriela Rose is a Recovery Agent. If you have something lost or missing, then Gabriela is your go-to person to recover it for you. In her first adventure, by popular author Janet Evanovich, Gabriela is working on behalf of her own family. She’s in need of money to prevent her family from having their home wiped off the map. And big money means high risk and Gabriela is always willing to take that risk. For this adventure she’s in search of the Ring of Solomon.

Gabriela has tracked legends and rumors regarding the Ring and she’s confident that with the help of a rare map leading to a different archeological site that she believes holds the key to the final resting place of the Ring, she’ll be successful. But that map is currently in the hands of her ex-husband, Rafer.

Gabriela and Rafer couldn’t be more different – where she is driven, he is relaxed – and he insists on traveling with her in her search. But being together only serves to remind Gabriela just why he’s her ex. And if personal conflict isn’t enough to put the search in danger, the fact that a vicious drug lord wants that ring, and he isn’t afraid to leave a trail of bodies to get it, might prove to put an end to this series before it even begins.

This book is just begging for comparisons to Indiana Jones and/or Lara Croft. Seriously – given the strength of the two iconic series’, is his simply a jumping on the bandwagon, trying to capitalize on their success? There is VERY little difference between Gabriela Rose and the aforementioned characters with one exception … the others are actually quite exciting while Gabriela Rose is quite vanilla.

The Recovery Agent reads like one of Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels in the jungles of Peru. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, except that this isn’t a Stephanie Plum novel. This is billed as an adventure series, but the focus is not on the adventure, it’s on Gabriela Rose (which normally I’d really appreciate since I like character-driven stories) and Ms. Rose, for being a ‘recovery agent’ is pretty tamed and dull.

Although I’m far from a Stephanie Plum expert, I’ve been reading the most recent volumes in that series and I’m not seeing much difference between the characters. I had presumed that this new series was intended to be different, more adventurous than Plum, but it’s got the same silliness and fun, similar supporting characters, and other than a tropical location, the same general feel. In the Plum novels I’ve read, I’ve never truly felt any danger for Stephanie and friends, and while this has the potential for greater danger, even the cruel drug lord would fit in a cozy mystery without any trouble.

Still … it is written in Evanovich’s easy style, making this a breeze to read, and sometimes that’s just the ticket. I would read another volume with the hopes of the excitement level to be increased, but if it reads the same, it would be my last.

Looking for a good book? The Recovery Agent by Janet Evanovich is a new series that combines the general appeal of Stephanie Plum with the concept Lara Croft and Indiana Jones, but the similarity to Evanovich’s Plum character is all too obvious making this series not particularly new.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Janet Evanovich is back with a BANG.

I love love love this new series. The treasure hunting is everything. I'm not sure if Rafer will bypass my love for Morelli...but I'm willing to give him a chance. Beyond ready for book two!

This was a very action packed story but somewhat unrealistic. I know this series is likely to continue. I hope they become more realistic.

I very much enjoy Janet Evanovich's writing and her newest title, THE RECOVERY AGENT, is no exception. The story is compelling, there is a wonderful sense of adventure and it definitely left me wanting to read more. I hope that this is a continuing series and that we get to read more of Gabriela's story!

In this fast-paced series debut by the author of the wildly successful Stephanie Plum series, recovery agent Gabriela Rose must come up with a large sum of money to keep her family’s home from being wiped off the map after a powerful hurricane. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing assets, and she’s hoping her new job will save them.

Inspired by an old family legend, Gabriela sets off for the jungles of Peru in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Cortez, long-lost treasure of her ancestor Blackbeard the Pirate. The problem is her ex-husband, Rafer, has the map that may point to the treasure and he’s not about to let Gabriela find it without him. Even though he gets under her skin, Gabriela knows it’s going to take a team to defeat the vicious drug lord who has also been searching for the fabled ring. The duo races around the Caribbean, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, New York City, and California wine country after the ring that has purported magical powers.

I’ve always gotten a kick out of Janet Evanovich’s “Stephanie Plum” books (I’ve read twenty-three of them). They are light, funny, and short, just what I need after a heavy book. The first installment of her new “Gabriela Rose” series is fun, too, just not AS fun. It reminded me of the Romancing the Stone starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner and the epic Indiana Jones films in book form. It has bad guys at every turn, most principally El Dragón, the spokesperson for Supay, the Incan god of death, who guards the cache of treasure. The book has loads of adventure, an on-again-off-again romance, and a ghost story all rolled into 320 pages.

With a plot like that, why didn’t I rate The Recovery Agent higher? There are a few reasons. I couldn’t help but compare it to the Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, which I adore. The characters aren’t as endearing or have the same chemistry; it isn’t as humorous; and there is too much plot regurgitation. What in the world doesn that mean? In other words, there are too many formulaic similarities: frustrated lovers who foible their relationships but rekindle the flame and the protagonists have parents and grandmothers who are involved in the adventure. One other thing—I supplemented the ebook with audio, and the talented Lorelei King narrated most of the Stephanie Plum series and The Recovery Agent, which was confusing. Is The Recovery Agent entertaining? You bet. Will I read the next installment of the “Gabriela Rose” series? Yep. But I’m a reviewer and this one only gets 3.5 stars.

I adore the Stephanie Plum series, and was hoping this newest series from Janet Evanovich would hold the same magic. But sadly, it wasn’t to be.

Gabriela is a recovery agent, hired to locate lost treasures and valuables. Her latest job takes her much closer to home. She is heavily relying on her family folklore in order to recover a fortune that will save her ancestral home.

Sorry, but I just couldn’t warm up to Gabriela or her quest. I tried both digital and audio versions. And while I did enjoy the voice talent, I struggled with the storyline.

Lots of mixed reviews! Hope you have better luck!🤞

An adventure novel that missed the mark for me. While this had notes of a Stephanie Plum novel, Gabriela Rose, unfortunately, didn't hold a candle to Ms. Plum. Searching for an ancient artifact, this wild and crazy novel seemed to OTT and made me roll my eyes more than once. There was also a bit too much steam for me with the romance that brewed between Gabriela and her ex-husband. Though this didn't quite work for me, other readers seemed to enjoy it, thus I suggest reading their reviews.

A buddy read with Kaceey.

Thanks to Atria for sharing this arc with me.

First in a new series. A good, quick, fun read. This series centers on Gabriela, a recovery agent of treasures etc. Her hometown is in severe financial troubles and she goes on a treasure hunt to try to save the town. She enlists her ex-husband and a cast of colorful characters to help her. I enjoyed it. I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

Meet Gabriela Rose, who can find absolutely anything that is lost. Whether its a lost treasure or missing heirlooms, she's your gal! Nothing gets under her skin, regardless of the shape, size or danger that's going on around her. Unfortunately, if Gabriela doesn't follow through with this latest mission, much more is on the line than just a lost treasure. Her family will be erased....forever.

Following an old family legend, Gabriela sets foot in the jungles of Peru for a chase of her life!

I'm a fancy of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but it was great! Kept my attention the entire time. Definitely similar in style to the Plum series, but much better written!

This is a strong start to a new series by Evanovich. Gabriela is introduced in a Stephanie Plum book and I really liked her so I was excited to see her get her own series. She is the complete opposite of Stephanie so we don't have the same crazy antics. She is strong, confident and knows how to do her job. Evanovich writes great supporting characters and this book is no exception. I really liked her ex husband and their dynamic. I'm looking forward to many more books in this series.

As good as Stephanie plum but also… I thought Gabriella was Hispanic and she’s apparently a white blonde lady???? So that was annoying but I loved the book

Evanovich definitely came out swinging with this new series. It is to me the perfect combination of mystery and hilarious misfortune we love in her Stephanie Plum series and the history and adventure seen in her Fox/O’hare and Knight/Moon series. This book is one you will not want to put down, there are so many levels to this story and twist and turns that it will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last. I will definitely have this series listed on my must buy list. I highly recommend this book to any mystery fans but if you are a fan of Mrs. Evanovich you definitely can not miss out on this one.

I love Janet Evanovich books because they are always fun not too serious books with lots of action. The Recovery Agent is a good example of this. It’s a Stephanie Plum mystery mashed with Lara Croft, and I totally loved it. The main character Gabriela is a total badass and not ditzy like Stephanie is but she is support by whole cast of interesting characters, that do give off that Plum vibe. I throughly enjoyed reading this story and can’t wait to read about their next adventure.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Recovery Agent by Janet Evanovich
Thanks to Atria and NetGalley for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Janet is hands down one of the funniest writers out there.
If you like the Plum books you’look like this.
Gabriela Rose is a recovery agent. She recovers things for insurance companies anything from high end theft, missing persons and sometimes treasure. She grew up in Swoon South Carolina and the town has just been hit with a horrible hurricane. The town needs a large sum of money to rebuild. When Gabriela’s grandmother tells her about a treasure chest that belonged to the infamous Blackbeard hidden beneath the floor I have her families home in Saint Vincent. The only problem is Rafer Gabriella’s ex-husband got the house in the divorce.
This is a suck you in story that takes you through the jungle hunting for treasure. I really enjoy the consistency in her books always peanut butter sandwiches and sexual tension you could cut with a knife.
