This book kind of really went nowhere in my opinion. The chit chatty dialogue was annoying and repeatitive. I really didn't like any of the characters. I found them annoying, childish and one dimensional. It was a struggle, but I finished it just to see if it would pick up and get better. Alas, it did not. I gave it 1 star only because I couldn't give it zero stars.

Little Nothings is what you could take to the beach to read while watching your kids in the sand with one eye. While it was somewhat fast-paced, it was also fueled with lots of catty drama and predictable storylines. Think New Jersey Housewives on an island. The story line follows a group of friends and spouses headed to a vacation on the Greek island of Corfu. The characters, Liv, - a very insecure mom, and her friends Binnie, Beth and frenemy Ange. The story is contains flashbacks of how their friendships developed and the strains that weigh heavy on Liv because she feels she needs to keep up her inner circle. A lot of shifting from past to present makes it somewhat hard to follow. Much of the book focuses on the drama between the friends. No real storylines to get invested in here. The characters all are extremely spiteful and not very unlikeable. From the start, the reader knows exactly what the story is going, the ending isn't a surprise at all! This definitely not one I would classify as a thriller.

Toxic friendships. A trope that I officially can’t stand. This book was really hard to get through for a few annoying reasons. The story follows Liv, who is deeply insecure and basically annoyed the crap out of me, on her big friends-trip on the Greek isle of Corfu. Her friends Binnie, Beth and frenemy Ange and spouses/kids are all there. The story is peppered (heavily) with flashbacks of how their friendships developed and the emotional and financial strains that weigh heavy on Liv because she feels she needs to keep up with said friends. Vacation drama builds and builds to a climax that was so frickin’ obvious to me that I just eye rolled and left my phone on the bed to escape my annoyance that NOTHING worth my time happened. The book is basically a WB mystery. Pretty Little Liars for adults. But if you’re mature enough to have moved on from this type of behavior, the appeal is null. Also- Pete is awful. There is no relationship in this book that was redemptive. And there are so many references to viper snakes….yes yes, I get it- poisonous snakes, poisonous people. I felt like it wasn’t subtle at all. I needed WAY more- maybe truly unreliable narrator or a huge twist. But instead I got a commentary on sociopathic socialite wannabes.

Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

PUBLICATION DAY: June 21, 2022

SUMMARY:
This is the story of Liv, a self professed introvert who has trouble making friends. So when she becomes a mother and develops close friendships with two other moms (Beth and Binnie), she’s truly happy for what might be the first time in her adult life. Then along comes Ange, who threatens her position in the group. A multi-family trip to Greece brings all the tension to a head - but just how far will Liv go when she’s pushed??

PROS and CONS:
A great cast of characters (aside from Beth and Binnie being thoroughly interchangeable in my mind) - lonely Liv, manipulative Ange, a charismatic stranger - a small resort with big personalities. Trouble is only one cocktail away from boiling over - I wondered how much was real, how much imagined. This is very well written but sort of like a wreck that you know you shouldn’t be watching but simply cannot look away.

READ IT?
I hadn’t heard of this author before this one, but she’s very talented and I’ll certainly try another one!

I found this book hard to read at times. It would jump from past to present without any warning. It was also somewhat confusing at times. I found it hard to stay engaged with the story. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this.

Between the Grecian setting and the complex friendships, I was super excited to read Little Nothings. However, I struggled with the writing style. It read almost like a stream of consciousness, even though it wasn't, which made it hard to follow at times. Additionally, the characters lacked dimension and at times came off too catty for my liking. I expected this to be a thriller, but it really wasn't, and overall was a miss for me.

I loved this one. Very fast paced, had me turning pages as I tore through it – I had to see how it would end. The characters were well rounded and the narrative felt believable. Gave me chills. Solid five

A deftly written story of slowly uncoiling sociopathy. Narcissism becomes deadly when the characters must confront mundane problems. Disturbing and beautifully written. An excellent psychological suspense. Perfect for those who love to read on the dark side.

I had high hopes for this book, and unfortunately they were not met.

Little Nothing's tells the story of Liv, a woman who is desperate for friendship, but has never been able to make a single friend her entire life. Fortunately, when she moves to a new town she meets two fellow mothers and they become fast friends. Unfortunately, the bliss of friendship is interrupted by Ange who for some reason has it out for Liv and is trying ruin her life but no one else realizes it's happening. Most of the book takes place during a trip to Greece.

Julie Mayhew is clearly a very skilled writer, I easily fell into various scenes of the book. The story has many elements that could have been a great book. I just find the overall execution of the story didn't quite meet its mark. I was expecting the novel to turn into a thriller as its categorized as, but instead I got women being catty and manipulative to each other with a semi predictable ending. I truly wanted to like it because I enjoyed the writing style but I couldn't get past the story itself.

Loved it! This novel has all the components of a great book - island get away, growing tension, strong characters, and an ending that you won't guess!

As an adult, Liv finally makes some close girl friends in Beth and Binnie. But when a new friend named Ange joins the group, the dynamics change drastically. Ange's actions, however, the "little nothings" towards Liv are classic passive aggressive master moves. She slowly builds bonds with Liv's friends and works to keep Liv out. Liv will do anything to keep her friends and this all comes to a head at a couple's get away in the Greek Islands.

The tension builds in the beautiful island background and you simply will not be able to put this book down until you find out what happens! This is a perfect book for anyone who has suffered at the hands of the mean girls or tried so hard to fit in. If you like get aways gone wrong, slow burns, and Island settings then this is a book for you! #Littlenothings #netgalley #Bloomsbury #Raven Books

I'm torn on this review. I really enjoyed the story, felt the appropriate sympathy or dislike for the characters, etc, but had a hard time reading at points because the book jumps around A LOT, often with no warning. You'll be in Greece in one scene, then in one of the main character's kitchens without any notice a paragraph later. I also struggled with the lack of capitalization. I'm aware, of course, that this is an ARC, so much of that will be fixed before publication, however, I found it so distracting at times that I had to stop reading and pick the book back up later, when I had a bit more time and patience. That said.... I really did enjoy the story and the comeuppance in the end. I'd read and recommend future titles by this author, absolutely.

This book sounded like it would be a good story with lots of angst and drama but no it was not to be. There is a lot of complaining and behind the back eye rolls and even though it is supposed to be a story told over a holiday trip there are also flashbacks from back home and it got a little confusing in spots. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Little Nothings is a novel about 3 couples who has supposedly friends that take a trip to Greece together. One of the couples has hit rock bottom financially, and had to have their trip paid for by another. The dynamic is extremely toxic between these friends, making the book almost unbearable to read. Does the main character really have THAT little self esteem that she would subject herself to this form of “friendship?” The book goes back and forth between past and present with nothing to show that a switch is happening. I was confused half the time about when the story was taking place. The concept was great; execution just did not land for me.

This is an enthralling, utterly crazy and compulsively readable thriller with a refreshingly original premise.
I thought this was more of a slow burn of suspense myself.
I'm glad to say that it remained compelling until the very end.
The characters felt like real believable people, the writing was interesting, the story very original.
It's a tension-filled, wickedly twisty and delicious deviant read that is endlessly thrilling as you race through the pages.

Raven Books,

Sry to say DNF at 20%. This was very like Housewives of New Jersey. The constant chatty dialogue was annoying and it didn’t seem to be going anywhere I’d want to follow.

Little Nothings is a decent beach read (and not just because the book takes place on a beach). It's fast-paced and filled with lots of drama. I wouldn't necessarily categorize it as a thriller, as there weren't any major twists, turns, or reveals. From the start, the reader knows exactly what the story is building to; the end isn't a surprise. The entire story takes place on a Greek island during the span of a three-week vacation. It focuses on a group of four girlfriends and their families. Most of the book focuses on the drama between the friends. The characters all are extremely spiteful and, at least for me, very unlikeable. With that said, I still liked the book. It's perfect for when a reality-television-level drama is needed.

Beth, Binnie and Liv are new moms and rely on each other to get through the doubts, fears, sleepless nights and endless questions that go with being a new parent. The little trio is getting along just fine until Ange joins their group. Ange is perfect in every way; wealthy, beautiful and capable of having and doing it all. While the other moms hop on board Ange’s perfection train, Liv is left on the outside looking in. And then Ange plans a girl’s trip to Greece, something Liv can’t afford, but that she can’t say no to either. But Ange makes it clear to Liv that no matter what she does, Liv will always be less, smaller somehow. As emotions rise and boil over it becomes clear that nothing will ever be the same. A timely book about our society where motherhood has become some kind of insane competition.
