Intriguing mystery and a whole lotta love…

I love branching out and trying new authors, new genres but sometimes… Sometimes I just need to curl up with a new book by a favourite author, one who loves romance and cowboys as much as I do. This was that book for me!

From the opening pages, Cal and Dillon were thrown together in a mystery that deepened along with their relationship. Dillon’s surprise inheritance was an amazing gift but recently one that came with life-threatening danger. Cal was a hero but circumstances meant even he was one to suspect. Trust is never easy and under these circumstances, I wavered right along with Dillon. They did team up though. A protector with a code of ethics that kept him by her side, even when things just got rougher. And Dillon, strong, brave despite her fear, who was determined to face her enemy head on. She hoped she made the right choice…

This was a twisty, fast-paced romantic suspense that I quickly got lost in. The clues came fast and furious and so did each intriguing curveball. I was concerned a moment or two but the surprises played out and the story left me with smiles galore and appreciation for another great read…

That Cowboy of Mine is the love story between Cal and Dillon. It is also a mystery/thriller/suspense that had me glued to the book. It also helped that I enjoy reading books from Donna Grant.

The plotline was interesting. Cal is woken up by the sound of Dillon cocking her rifle to shoot him. A bull rider, who didn’t get on the circuit, he had decided to drown his sorrows at a local bar. He has no clue what he did or how he ended up on Dillon’s land. But, when he saves her from bullets, he is instantly embroiled in a plot to drive Dillon from her land. Determined to protect her, Cal hatches a plan to pose as her new lover and stay with her at the ranch until everything is sorted out. But, that proves to be hard when secrets are unearthed, and the attempts on Dillon’s life grow. Can Cal and Dillon solve the mystery of why these things are happening? Can they figure out who is behind it? And most importantly, can their love survive what will be revealed?

Dillon annoyed me for about 90% of the book. I liked her, but man, she was quick to jump to conclusions about Cal. There were points in the book where I wanted to shake her because she was that irritating. But, as I said, I liked her. She cared about her ranch, and she wasn’t willing to sell it.

I liked Cal. He was on the up and up with Dillon, even if she didn’t trust him. Of course, what happened the night he was drunk did make me slightly suspicious of him. Also, his relationship with the person who was determined to get Dillon’s property made me raise my eyebrows a little. But, he was determined to help Dillon, even after she made him leave her property. I wasn’t expecting how far he was willing to go, though.

The villains in That Cowboy of Mine were despicable and evil. They wanted power and wealth and would do anything to get it. The main bad guy was more willing to get his hands dirty (killing people), while the second bad guy did have reservations, at first, about what bad guy#1 was doing. But he lost those towards the end of the book and was just as evil as bad guy#1. But there was a 3rd bad guy that came out of nowhere. I was beyond shocked when he just popped up towards the end of the book.

The mystery genre was well written. I did feel that the author stretched out the plotline (why did the bad guys want Dillon’s land). But that feeling went away when the author added two twists to the story. One was why the bad guys wanted the land, and the other was the surprise 3rd bad guy who just appeared out of thin air. That added some extra kick towards the end of the book.

The suspense angle of the book was terrific. I found myself growing anxious and wondering what would happen to Dillon next. The author was able to draw out the events and keep me on edge for the entire book. I loved it!!!

Westerns are my guilty pleasure, and this one didn’t disappoint me. I could have used a few more scenes on the ranch, but I was happy with what the author portrayed.

Since this is a contemporary romance, I expected the sex scenes to be hot and graphic. I wasn’t disappointed. Cal and Dillon had an electric connection that came off the pages. My only complaint was this book took place within a week, so you know that means Instalove. Not a fan of Instalove. But besides that, I enjoyed that angle of the book.

The end of That Cowboy of Mine was fantastic. I loved how the author resolved all the plotlines. Of course, there was some suspense involving Cal, but that also worked itself out. The epilogue was cute, but I did roll my eyes at what Cal’s mother kept asking.

I would recommend That Cowboy of Mine to anyone over 21. There is graphic sex, moderate language, and moderate violence.

Dillon Young has just inherited her aunt’s ranch and is proud to call it her home. But strange things have been happening around the ranch lately and it seems someone is willing to do whatever it takes to run her off. Dillion suspects her no-good neighbor and goes on high alert when the irresistible Cal Bennett is found passed out drunk on her property. When someone takes a shot at Dillion, Cal immediately jumps to her rescue. For her protection, Cal suggests they pose as lovers until they find out who is trying to take the ranch.

Fans of Yellowstone, this book is 100% for you! It’s definitely a romance but there’s lots of action and suspense. The plot was full of exciting twists and kept me wanting more! Cal and Dillon were so well-written and I loved their natural chemistry. The romance wasn’t too instantaneous and the progression of their relationship felt very realistic to me. There’s just the right amount of spice too! And as a horse lover myself, I absolutely fell in love with the setting! Dillon’s ranch was a dream 😍 Thank you so much to St. Martin’s Press + Donna Grant for my E-ARC and finished copy!

Dillon was perfectly content to work hard and run her little ranch, but when someone decides they want what she has, and is willing to kill for it, she needs help. Enter Cal, a rodeo washout. He has connections in the town, and Dillon isn't sure if she can trust him, but love has other plans. Although the conspirators were a little ridiculous and over-reaching, i enjoyed this romance with a alittle bit of suspense.

3.5 Oh, What Fun Stars

That Cowboy of Mine by Donna Grant takes a mystery/suspense feel for a woman who has a ranch to handle and matches it with a man who any woman would get the vapers from.

Our gal thinks she knows who is trying to take her ranch away from her and this man is not playing, there are shots fired and serious threats. What happens to assist her is a cowboy who was passed out drunk on her ranch and he comes to her rescue from the situation.

Oh, he is smitten with her but also wants to protect her too. The story unfolds and we benefit.

Cal, a rodeo cowboy, wakes up on Dillon's property after a night of drinking too much to find Dillon standing over him with a shotgun and accusing him of stealing her newly bought stallion. Cal doesn't remember a thing but offers to help her track the horse in an effort to find it. What follows are a lot of twists and turns as the two team up to find out who is trying to get rid of Dillon in an attempt to get her ranch and why. Though the bad guys are evident as the story goes, things are not always what they seem.

This book takes you on a ride from the very beginning in this romantic suspense - it's heavier on the suspense as opposed to the romance but I still found myself really enjoying it. This was an easy read as Donna Grant knows how to captivate her readers. I wish there had a bit more romance but there is a slow burn aspect in that you can feel the relationship building between Cal and Dillon from the beginning.

That Cowboy of Mine by Donna Grant was a terrific story. This was a cowboy romance that was full of action, suspense, betrayal and even some romance. It was a fast-paced book that keep me wanting to read more. This is Cal and Dillon’s story. Dillion inherited her aunt’s ranch, but something is going on with all the ‘accidents’ that are happening. Cal appears on her land out cold after a drunken night. Can she trust him? The characters in the story are well developed and the storyline is well written. I recommend reading this terrific story.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy for my honest review.

I really do enjoy Donna Grant's romantic suspense/ contemporary western. This one was good but not one of my favorites 3.5 stars. It's a beautiful cover though

Mystery, danger and sexy romance! This story has all that and more as feisty ranch owner Dillion pairs up with hunky bull rider Cal to find the thief and save her ranch. After a less than auspicious first meeting Dillion and Cal settle into a fabulous relationship with an instant connection and chemistry. She hires Cal after her life was in danger and he saved her. Cal is a tracker with skills to track down her stolen horse. The culprit appears to be a neighbor with longtime ties to Cal. Hank appears to be the baddie but the real evil is another resident. I love this romantic couple as they work together to solve the mystery, save her ranch and bring down the bad guys while staying alive. Plus the sexy times when they grow close are sizzling. Yes! This is another terrific story by this outstanding author that delivers in her unique style with a divine hero, a wonderful heroine and a thrilling storyline. Loved it!

This is a Contemporary Cowboy Romance which starts with a horse theft and mystery and leads to a suspenseful team up. Grant definitely takes the reader on an adventure full of twists and turns from page one. This read was my first contemporary cowboy romance and it may just not be the genre for me. I am unsure if I didn’t like the setting or if I just couldn’t connect with this story specifically. I struggled with the set up of the plot - the reaction to an attempted murder seemed really subdued. The introduction of villain(s) felt theatrical, although the shift in POV took me by surprise. That attraction between both main characters was addressed right away, but the chemistry didn't come natural, and the romance/spice read slow and low.

I'm sure many readers will enjoy this novel. It's a fast paced, well written read.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!

Dillon Young inherited her ranch from her aunt but someone is trying to run her off. Now, this one morning she is standing above a cowboy who is passed out on her property and it looks like he helped with steeling her prized horse.
Cal Bennet is waking up with a headache and also a shotgun pointed at him. He has sobered up fairly quickly with the gun and the pretty woman behind it. The problem is he has no idea how he ended up on her ranch. As they are talking they hear shots and he pushes her out of the way. Against her better judgment, she allows him to stay and he helps track where the horse went and the two of them become friends. That is until she does not know who to trust and kicks him off her ranch. There is a lot going on with this story and what people want about her ranch and her dead. It seems like each page was a new mystery, but as you move along you finally start putting everything together and there are a few surprises along the way. A very good book with good characters.

This was an enjoyable contemporary romance. Dillon inherited a ranch from her aunt, and is trying her best to make it work. However, things keep getting sabotaged, and the troubles seem to be escalating. When she finds Cal drunk and asleep by an open pasture gate, and her very expensive stallion gone, of course she suspects Cal of the worst.

Some things that stood out to me - Dillon is a planner - she has financial spreadsheets, tries to maximize income, gets insurance, and is very practical and hands on. I liked that touch of realism that is so often missing in romantic suspense.

Also, Cal isn't some ex-Navy-Seal/special investigator that comes in and saves the day. He helps, sure, but Dillon calls an ACTUAL official investigator (who is a great character), and the official does lead the investigation.

Thanks to NetGalley and Donna Grant for the chance to read an ARC or the book!

This is another intriguing read from Donna. We get to see the greed of some, the lawlessness of others and downright evil at its worst.
Dillon has inherited her aunt Dolly's ranch, she loved going there as a kid. She never thought her aunt would leave her the ranch. She wants to make a go of horse breeding program Dolly started. She was on her way till she is shot at and her expensive Stallion is stolen.
Cal Bennett is having a really bad day; he woke up to having a shotgun in his face. Not remembering anything of the night before other than a hangover. Then he witnesses a beautiful woman being shot at ! Now he has somehow become involved in finding her missing horse, and helping to find out who is trying to kill her... for an ex-bull rider is been a heck of a day.
As both Cal and Dillon work together to solve the mystery of the missing horse and find who is trying to harm her, the passion between them grows. Neither truly trust the other but the attraction is off the charts. Then suspicions rise, trust fails, and friends turn to enemies. This is such an intriguing story.
Lots of action, twist and turns, suspense, romance and sadness too.
Once you get started you can't put it down. You feel for Cal, understand Dillon and hurt for both of them. Donna always makes you feel part of her stories right up till the end. You will not want to miss this one. I know I'll be re-reading it again and again.
I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

Saddle up, folks! A new cowboy romance has just been published and its action-packed plot is one you’ll definitely want to read this summer! That Cowboy of Mine is swoony, exciting, and a book to definitely get your hands on when it comes out on April 26th.

I don’t know if I’ve actually read a cowboy romance before, but consider me a fan of them now! This book jumped right into the thick of action and mystery and it had me hooked from page one! Between murder attempts, missing horses, and the mysterious appearance of a hot bull rider, the activities on Dillon’s ranch will leave readers curious about what will happen next and when the truth will eventually come to light. This story took a bit of a suspenseful turn with danger lurking over Dillon and the ranch, but this book was still a fun and quick read. Plus who doesn’t love a little sexy tension between a hot cowboy and his new boss??

If you're looking for a quick read, this cowboy romance is definitely one to add to your TBR this summer! I am definitely excited to explore more cowboy romances, as well as Donna Grant’s extensive backlist!

A cleverly woven mystery! I adore a story that can keep me guessing til the end, and this one definitely did that. When Dillon Young finds an unconscious stranger on her property shortly before being shot at, she's not sure who to trust, especially when the mystery man claims he has no memory of how he got there.

I always want to believe the best in people, but I love the twists and turns of a story that make you always afraid of trusting the wrong characters. This book has a cleverly written plot, with surprises around every corner to keep you in suspense, just when you think you're close to figuring things out.

Cowboys, murder attempts, secrets and more...this book will have you hooked from the first chapter!

Cal Bennet wakes up out of a drunken stupor with a cocked gun pointed at him. He doesn't know how he got here, the sun is baking hot, and alcohol is gurgling in his stomach looking for a way out. Not the best way to make the acquaintance of a drop-dead gorgeous woman. One who might be dead in actuality without Cal's quick reflexes that got her out of the path of bullets aimed for her.
There is definitely trouble on Dillon Young's ranch. Her prized stallion has disappeared, someone is trying to buy her ranch, failing which seems to be willing to kill to own it.  Cal Bennet is the number one suspect at least for the disappearance of the prime stud except he might have been too drunk to have perhaps done it.
It's clear who are the culprits are for all the mayhem that's aimed at Dillon and the motive is greed. Someone wants something that's on her ranch and she better wise up quickly to figure out why her next-door neighbor wants her ranch so desperately that he's willing to kill for it and might have been planted cowboy Cal to win her trust and facilitate his objectives.
I enjoyed the story being told from multiple angles so there is no mystery from the reader's perspective though I did want to yell out a warning to Dillon a few times regarding her circle of trust and how skewed it might be in reality.  The ranger who's investigating her missing stallion and her lawyer in Dallas are the only two people that Dillon feels she can trust absolutely.
A few more bullets will fly before the truth is revealed leaving Cal and Dillon a clear path to exploring their chemistry and a happily ever after. A fun read with a good mix of murder, mystery, action and romance.
