I adore this series and the characters come to life in every book. This is a must read if you love all things southern. I would recommend reading books in order to fall in love with this series

I have been provided with a review copy of Lady of Bones from NetGalley for an impartial review. I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

Lady of Bones is the 24th Sarah Booth Delaney cozy mystery by Carolyn Haines. Released 14th June 2022 by Macmillan on their Minotaur imprint, it's 352 pages and is available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is an entertaining and engaging book in an engaging series by a competent writer. There's a strong paranormal element (the main character's sort of haunted by her great-great grandmother's nanny, a black woman named Jitty who has Opinions and lots of confusingly cryptic advice). MC Sarah Booth Delaney's also a PI and this installment sees her getting to the bottom of a string of Hallowe'en disappearances over the last 5 years of young women in the New Orleans area. She's soon entangled in cults with charismatic leaders, witchcraft, and possibly even human sacrifice. The settings are a living, breathing, immersive part of the story and the author does a superlative job with them.

The plotting is often meandering (it's a cozy with almost 400 pages), and there's quite a lot of "fluff" to add humor including a generous helping of cooing over best friend Tinkie's new baby, Maylin. The characters are quirky and appealing and there's a lot of goodwill and heart in the series. Ms. Haines is quite an adept author and I never found my interest waning, although there were a few eye-rollingly silly moments. The denouement and resolution weren't overly surprising, but they were satisfying. This series is dependably entertaining and fun, and this one is worth a read. The ensemble cast and returning characters mean that readers who are new to the story might want to read a few in the series prior to this one first, although it's simple enough to probably work well enough as a standalone. There are dogs, some cats, the language is clean, and there's light (off page) sexual content, but nothing explicit. The book is full of southernisms like "bless your heart" and "y'all" and more sweet-tea than you can shake a stick at.

Four stars. Cozy mystery comfort food.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Pure storytelling. I love traveling along on the Delaney investigations and this plot was great.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Sarah Booth is back with her best friend and her detective boyfriend. This time Sarah Booth finds herself in New Orleans in search of a woman who is the daughter of her mother’s friend. There is a bit of the voodoo/mystical aspect to this mystery, but nothing too out there or overwhelming. I liked this book as a follow up in the series and can’t wait to see what’s next for Sarah Booth and her circle.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Lady of Bones by Carolyn Haines in exchange for an honest review. This was a fun and quirky book. I probably would have enjoyed it a bit more if I had read the previous books in the series. It was a quick read for the season.

This book is wildly entertaining. I always love a Sarah booth book. This one takes place at Halloween and Sarah is taking a case that involves witchcraft and human sacrifice. I was so tense reading this at bedtime that I turned all the lights on. I loved every minute of this holiday themed cozy mystery.

So much fun. Lover her characters like family. You can drop right into the storyline like you just left.

Once again we get to visit with Sarah Booth, Tinkie and their friends in the Mississippi Delta. But an unexpected guest has Sarah Booth and Coleman on the road to New Orleans. Although Tinkie stays in Zinnia with the baby, she remains in touch. At first I was afraid that the book was going to focus on demons and supernatural but it's just a piece to solve the mystery.

The book was well-written with another top notch mystery. I love these deep relationships that the characters have and truly feel like they are long-time friends of min. I liked the change of scenery but it will good to head back to Zinnia.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I enjoyed the story. Perfect for Halloween 🎃 time that is fast approaching. I didn't know it was part of a series but I felt like I wasn't missing anything by skipping the books before. I will read the other books in the series.

It's Halloween & the girls are ready to celebrate. As the decorating begins, Sarah Booth has an unexpected visitor asking for her help-her mom's best friend. Tinky has baby Maylin, can't leave, so Sarah Booth & Coleman head to New Orleans to find the missing girl. The story twists and turns, with another missing girl added to the storyline.
It's a different read, not being in Zinnia, not having Sarah Booth & Tinky going about town with all the townies. They do come into play towards the end, and the story ends well. Well written, keeping the story line alive.
Thanks to NetGalley, Ms Haines, and Kensington Books for the preread in exchange for an honest review.

Lady of Bones by Carolyn Haines is the 24rd book in the Sarah Booth Delaney series, and I loved it!! Not only is this book really funny at times, it can also be emotional. As always Lady of Bones does not disappoint. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love mysteries with a little bit of everything, I strongly recommend this book/series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A big thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press/Minotaur Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, but these can be read as stand alones easily. I enjoyed the book, I loved Christa. I actually really like New Orleans as well. This was just fun to read. 4 stars

Lady of Bones by Carolyn Haines is the 24th in the Sarah Booth Delaney Mystery series. Tinkie has had her baby and the gang is gearing up for a festive Halloween celebration when Frankie, an old friend of Sarah Booth’s mother, arrives. Her daughter Christa and her daughter’s roommate have disappeared, and she wants Sarah Booth to investigate.

Sarah Booth and Coleman head to the Garden District of New Orleans to team up for the investigation. The case has connections to a cult called the People of Eternity and, it seems, to a number of high ranking officials. Sarah Booth and Coleman can’t trust anyone and will need to watch their backs or end up as human sacrifices. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.) Twisty and fast-paced, the story was nicely executed, with all of our favorite characters back in action.

I thought the premise of missing women looking into a cult promising eternal youth was interesting. The characters were humorous and likable and the New Orleans setting was fun! I just had some trouble connecting with the characters and some elements of the plot were a bit far fetched for me, but overall the book was satisfying. Thank you for the ARC!

Amazing!!! This book was exciting and intriguing. It was full of danger and excitement. I loved the plot and the characters. The characters are like good friend that you care and worry about. I was on the edge of my seat about the plot and couldn’t put the book down. I was caught up in the possibilities of what could happen and how the characters could save themselves. I cannot recommend this enough!

I received this ARC via Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books, in return for an honest review. While the 25th book in this series, it is easily read as a standalone. It’s almost Halloween when an old friend of Sarah Booth Delaney’s deceased mother knocks on the door and asks for help to find her missing daughter in New Orleans. Turns out that Christa was trying to find out what happened to her roommate who also went missing. Add in a rumored cult of eternal youth and Sarah Booth’s detective partner being out on maternity leave. Luckily, Sarah Booth’s sweetheart and local Sheriff can take vacation days to serve as her backup in the baffling case. Another solid entry in this long-running series and particularly interesting for Halloween times.
