Imagine being kidnapped and taken underground, with your friends missing and you tasked with leading a rebellion, not to mention being thrown into the mix of a love triangle. An intriguing tale.

This book gave me vibes of Mockingjay (Hunger Games Book 3), and Divergent from the jump. If you like dystopian novels, or factions that are pitted against each other, you will enjoy this action-packed novel.

I hadn’t read the book prior to this one, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying this one! The book starts out with Arela being captured by the Resolutionists after a bombing, and she’s swept away to the Underground, which is an underground society (much like district District 13 in Mockingjay) full of revolutionaries intent on toppling Osiris.

Arela starts off bitter and resentful— hellbent on escaping— but her thoughts/dynamics begin to shift as she gets to know those around her. She finds herself with two goals: rescuing her friends, and wanting to unite the two factions in order to defeat a common enemy. Arepa’s journey is an interesting one, and you can see her struggle to identify who she can trust, and who the actual enemies are. Love is gained and lost in this action-packed novel. Definitely worth a read.

Oh, did I mention she gets powers?

A dangerous and exciting read with fantastic world building and enjoyably complex character development.
The overall story was gripping and kept me turning pages however some more character building would’ve been good.
As a whole I really enjoyed this title and would recommend for those who enjoy action, danger and a bit of mystery!

I decided to give this series and an author a second chance. So bear in mind, I already wasn't too impressed by the first book, but it peaked my interest just enough so that I wanted to know what will happen in the continuation.
This sequel read just as fast and nicely as the first book in the series, which is what I mainly liked about it - the pacing and the writing. It was easy to get into, easy to follow, there was always something happening and if it by any chance wasn't, you knew that it will be very soon. The book also still read in the same tone as the prequel - on the younger side of YA, so it surprised me that some aspects of the story were much darker than I expected, considering the general younger tone of the story. I liked the depictions of the trauma different characters went through and the romance sub-plot was okay, not too cheesy. The setting, the atmosphere, the mysteries and all the political intrigue were quite interesting too.
But I found the main character insufferable in the first book already - so naive and reckless. She grew a little bit in this book but definitely not enough for me to start liking her. I still can't get over how she can hack into all kinds of devices and systems, not with her superpowers, but her sheer outstanding skill. I just couldn't help but roll my eyes at her hacking scenes. And her escape scenes. Oh, the lack of planning, Oh, the sheer luck she had, but still considered herself a genius instead of just lucky. The plot was fast and action packed, but mostly just really unbelievable and I predicted quite a good portion of it. Secondary characters felt flat, underdeveloped, and I didn't really care about most of them at all, and therefore I couldn't really be invested in the plot and story as a whole.
The ending really upset me because the book ends on a horrible cliffhanger. So I am kind of frustrated that even though I generally dislike the book I still want to continue with the series just to find out what happens in the end.

When I started reading this I didn’t realize it was actually a sequel, so was fairly confused for a lot of it, until I clued in that I was missing some pretty big events that took place in the first book. However I still enjoyed this story greatly, enough that I went back and read the first one. I love dystopian stories so this was right up my alley. I loved how immersive the author made this world, how intense it was from beginning to end (though a few times I needed to take a breather so as not to feel overwhelmed), the relationships (both platonic and romantic) were well written & flowed well without any of them feeling forced. I really loved Arela and felt a lot of empathy for the things she went through, her character development throughout her journey was well thought out and enriched the layers of the story. Showing how in war there isn’t necessarily a right and wrong side when everyone thinks they’re fighting for the right thing, and the moral implications of picking sides was cleverly written and reverberates with many wars in the real world. The world building was great, the character development on point and there were enough twists and turns for me to want to plow through this book in hopes of answers. Be warned, this leaves on a massive cliffhanger which will have you feeling a bit of despair if you’re anything like me lol! I absolutely love the cover (it’s what drew me to the book in the first place, I’m such a sucker for a great cover) and loved how unique this take on a dystopian future was. Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't really like the first book in this duology, but since I had an arc, I wanted to give it a try. I dnf'd this at about twenty percent.

I think this a refreshingly unique take in the YA dystopia genre - it made me think of a few elements from other YA dystopia/utopia books I've enjoyed - but they were spun together in new and interesting ways that made it stand out.

Despite not reading book one, I felt interested and connected to the main protagonist Arela, without knowing the back story in depth - there are some helpful reintroductions of key characters and their previous roles. That said, I would recommend you read book one - while it's easy to pick up some of the story in the beginning, it becomes a bit harder near the end.

I thought the world building was great. Characters were all complex, flawed, humans, with no one coming out perfect or righteous (though some are much worse than others!) I liked that there was character development and increasing self and social awareness, it's peppered with some interesting side stories, with some mysteries revealed and some mysteries still left to unravel.

Looking forward book three! Thank you to netgalley for this review copy.

This book is a delightful new twist on the classic dystopian YA fiction. In this second book in the Rising Resolution trilogy, young Arela has been rescued by the Resolutionists, the very people responsible for the death of one of her dearest friends and the same people she has been taught to hate and fear. Yet, almost against her will, Arela becomes part of their community. She learns what a world without the extreme control of the Osirian government could be. She makes new friends and gets a glimpse of the family life she never had. She also experiments with her newly discovered, confusing power and learns how to use it. As Arela tries to figure out where her loyalties lie, she also has to find a way to rescue her friends who are still trapped by the sinister Thaddeus Grant. Along the way she survives an attempt on her life, falls in love (again) and makes a terrifying discovery that has implications for both the Conservationists and Resolutionists.

I really enjoyed the setting and carefully thought out world. A whole new dimension is added in the discovery that the Underground exists. I also really enjoyed Arela's growth in this second book. She has to learn a few harsh lessons but she comes out more mature. I was intrigued by the new information about her missing parents and her background and eager to find out more. There is also a new depth to her relationships with her friends as they navigate their grief and trauma together. While I am not personally a fan of the usual love triangle, I still found myself rooting for my favorite guy and willing Arela to choose him. I missed Arela's hacking habits from the previous book but enjoyed the fact that she could learn so many new things.

All in all, I am really glad that I discovered these books. I think that the author has done a wonderful job on bringing a fresh breath to this genre and she kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through (I literally read it in a day)! I am eagerly hoping and waiting for the next book.

I was curious about this one, but other that a brief sample I had no idea what to expect. I actually really liked most of this one, but it did seem to drag a little in a couple places. Overall though it was a fun read and an interesting twist on the genre!

I’m still loving the story. Arela's hubris really is something…! I see a love triangle setting up with the boys but I think I see how it’s going to play out.

The overall pace, felt good, it didn’t feel like it was too slow or too fast. The way that the new characters were introduced was good, especially with Rani and having that connection at the end. Or the mysterious Bastet and Simon having a son…

You know how after a stunning debut, many authors mess up the sequel... Not Tahnee though... This book begins just about where the last one ended on a cliff hanger...

Arela wakes up underground, among the Resolutionists... and reluctantly learns to live in that niche, constantly waiting for a chance to escape...

The spark (pun intended) between Harlow and Arela was something that I loved in this book...

As (by now) expected... there's not a dull moment in the story, which ended in another cliff hanger somehow worse than the previous one...

I'm going to be badgering the author for the next book...

Did not realize this was a sequel book when I requested it. I am currently waiting for the first volume and will come back to this once I finish it. The premise looks interesting, and from the first chapter, it seems well written. Is definitely on my list.

I first read the synopsis to book 2 in the series, this book, before I got a chance to delve into the mysterious world Perry brings here. I was intrigued by the premise, and thought it was a fantasy novel at first.
As I got this book for free in exchange for an honest review on netgalley (thank you, by the way), I went ahead and bought book one and read it in one sitting. It was short, but its fast-paced action made it for a complex world-building in a post apocalyptic USA.
Even though I don't normally go for dystopian novels, the last ones I read were The hunger games, the Giver and the Divergent series, the story was just what I needed to break up the fantasy list of books and their tropes I had been eating up for months. It was a bit of fresh air.
I was worried at first that the writing style was going to be meant for younger audiences, and although in parts it does feel that way, the story moves along such dark topics it really pulled me in and made me care for the characters enough to keep reading.
The romantic elements of the story, whilst it did have certain things I normally veer towards in books, was a bit quick for me. That will depend on the reader more than how it was written, however, and it does leave you wonder what will happen in book 3, even if I have my own idea about it.
Overall I gave it 3.5 stars.

I really enjoyed reading this book! The writing was well done and I fell in love with the characters again. I couldn't put it down and finished it in the span of a day.

I had an absolute blast reading Tahnee Perry's latest book. This is a fast paced and one wild ride of an adventure. The characters, the world building, plot, pace and narrative were perfectly blended to produce a highly action packed novel that I’m sure will captivate dystopia fans. I’ve found a series that will keep me eager for the coming releases, and I can’t wait to read more of Arela's adventures. Hurry up and bring on the next book!

I love reading dystopian books like this. It was fast paced from the very beginning and full of energy. It was great to see the characters develop more and more as the plot progressed. The world building was brilliant . It's gritty and thrilling in the right places but also has moments of fun.

The politics are interesting and the gradual development if new powers keep you engaged and wanting more

The second book to The Killing Plot is a heart pounding race against time! Will Arela be able to save the ones she loves? Or will she even manage to save herself?
I was hooked from start to finish with each twist and turn!
