Shoo this one had some suspense to it! While it was relatively predictable (for me anyway, but I read a lot of books like this), it was good! It started out slower than I would have liked which made it take longer for me to get through but once it got going it was so good!

I was granted an audiobook copy of this from NetGalley and I gotta say I really enjoyed the way the narrator performed this book!

Overall I gave this audio ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow the author's first novel. How long will it be for a second? Is there a budding relationship in the first (personally, I hope not.). I enjoyed this book, and it wasn't until I finished and went snooping for her other works that I saw Debut.

I don't repeat the synopsis or give spoilers. The story is complex, but not convoluted. Sparks did a good job running 2-3 crimes simultaneously. She used her detectives. The story flowed well for me. There were a couple times I wanted to gently push forward, but I think it was the narration. This is not a romance book, and I appreciated her character development. She chose to write on fictional serious subjects, and I believe she respected those who were victims in real life and those who work in real life solving these crimes.

My problem was with the narration. The narrator herself did well. I would pick up another of her works. However, on this one it is a miss. Possibly a female and a male narrator would compliment the story.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for accepting my request to read and review The Wrong Woman. I am looking forward to Sparks next book.

Opening with a prologue filled by chilling thoughts from a serial killer The Wrong Woman by debut author Leanne Kale Sparks gets your attention from the start and doesn't let you go until the end.

FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck is a fully fleshed out character that I quickly cared about and rooted for throughout her journey. We meet Kendall as she is desperately searching for missing 5 year old Emily. She finds her alive at a golf course where local Detective Adam Taylor is investigating the murder of a young woman left on the same golf course.

Soon Kendall and Adam are teaming up after the shocking death of Kendall's best friend Gwen. How all three events come together is very clever and extremely enjoyable as a mystery thriller fan to experience. The scenes of Kendall's grief over the loss of her friend were written with realistic emotions which were perfectly performed by narrator Erin Deward and I hope I get a chance to listen to her on more audiobooks. She was amazingly authentic with every word.

This story works on many levels. As a police procedural we see the frustrations of the investigation as it stalls from tracking down possible suspects and coming up with dead ends to more questions than answers coming up. Then there is Kendall dealing with loss, fear, anger and that feeling of helplessness when no matter how hard you try the answers aren't always there for you. There is some romance and hopefully this will be the beginning of a Kendall Beck series. My interpretation of the title is that the killer has messed with The Wrong Woman which is Kendall.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publishers for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Kendall Beck has seen a lot as an FBI agent, but when her roommate and best friend goes missing and is later found dead she stops at nothing to find out what happened to her. At the time her roommate goes missing she finds a missing little girl who becomes the piece that helps solve the puzzle of what happened to her best friend Gwen.
Although on the longer side this was a great journey of following Kendall and how not only her past came back to haunt her but also dives into the risks those working for the FBI and other agencies face when working cases. I am glad that I was able to get the audio version as I am not sure I would have sat to read 75 chapters but I really enjoyed listening to it and highly recommend this as an audio book.

I really, really wanted to like this book. The book blurb said right up my alley and the beginning of the book made promises of an intense suspense novel but I found it uneven. The story was exciting, then drawn out, then exciting again and I believe it was trying to do too much. There is many spots that were terrific but the others overshadowed it. The jumping from one case to another were not as defined as I would like. Perhaps this one would be a better read than listened. to.

I felt some of the "sexy" things like the innuendos were lost and really didn't belong. They seemed out of place. Some of the police procedural items also seemed wrong such as search techniques, and waiting to notify family for so long just did not ring true to me.

Do not get me wrong reader of this review. I did like the many parts of the story and I will read this author again. There is enough positives such as strong female lead and the mystery that did keep me interested in spite of pieces that took me out of the story. There is promise here.....

"The only survivor of Denver's notorious "Reaper" serial murders, FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck grapples with the ghosts of her past by seeking justice for victims of abuse. She's neck-deep in a particularly ugly case involving the disappearance of five-year-old Emily Williams--but her investigation is derailed when her best friend and roommate, Gwen Tavich, turns up dead floating in a nearby lake."

A nice twisty psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. Well-written, with excellent narration.

A gripping psychological thriller that definitely hit its mark in my book. I was confused a little towards the middle, but in the end it all came together.

FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck and Police Detective Adam Taylor were well written characters that I really enjoyed. Their working relationship felt realistic to me, and I appreciated that there was not a romantic interest between them. I wouldn't mind seeing another book with these two characters. Kendall Beck is the common denominator between the two seemingly unrelated cases in this book. I knew they had to be related, but I couldn't wrap my head around the how. I liked how Sparks took us through all of the tiny clues in order to lead us to the primary suspect.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book and while I liked the narrator, I felt she did a lot of whispering and I had to turn the volume up very high to hear all of the conversations.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook version in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Wrong Woman
Leanne Kale Sparks
FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck is a woman to be reckoned with. When five-year-old Emily Williams is reported missing Kendall is on the case. Beck finds the child and discovers the child had ran away to escape sexual abuse. Kendall was furious and lost her temper. When her best friend and roommate is discovered dead, she and Police Detective Adam Taylor work together to find the killer. It doesn’t take long for them to realize there is a serial killer on the loose.
This is the beginning of what I suspect will be a new series. Kendall is an interesting character, very intense and compassionate with a hot temper. Adam is diligent in his work but easier going than Kendall; the two make a great team for their personalities complement each other. When Kendall first reported her friend missing, the police officer (don’t remember his name) was infective, unsympathetic, and useless.

Reading Between the Wines book review #13/135 for 2022:
Rating: 3 1/2 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: The Wrong Woman
Author: Leanne Kale Sparks
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Available now!

Sipping thoughts: I really enjoyed this book, it felt like reading 3 books in one because of the 3 different storylines. FBI agent Kendall Beck is a great character. I would love to follow a series with her being the main protagonist. This book follows her solving the case of a 5 year old missing girl, the death of best friend, Gwen, all while dealing with her past of the being a sole survivor of a serial killer. This was my first Sparks book but I hope to read more in the future.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @DreamscapeMedia for an advanced copy of @TheWrongWoman

Omg, this one was amazing! I had a hard time putting it down!!
Kendall has a dark history involving a serial killer but she is also an FBI Special Agent. While she deals with her demons and ghost of her past, she is determined never to let anyone down again!
So while she is searching for a young girl, they are worried that she was kidnapped they end up finding her in her neighbor's garage.
So while she is working on her own case, she ends up letting the father of the victim have it in the hospital and is sent home. When she is sent home she is talking to her roommate/best friend Gwen. Then Gwen borrows Kendall's car and goes to work. In a couple of days, Gwen doesn't come home and Kendall starts to worry. So, to get the police to actually listen to her about Gwen being missing she eventually reports her car as missing. Soon they find her car and a little while after they find her car they find Gwen's body. So Adam goes from a stolen vehicle to a murder case while he is working on another murder case. Soon Adam and Kendall start a slow-burn friendship. They are working on a clock to stop a father who is abusing his children and Adam is working to solve Gwen's murder! If you love a good cop/FBI thriller then you will love this one! Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen and review this one! It was definitely a treat!

This is the first time I read a book by Leanne Kale Sparks (by read I mean I listened to the audiobook ). I was not a fan of the narrator of this book. There were times I thought the dialogue was cheesy, but was not sure if it was the wording of the book or the narration.

Either way, I found this book extremely entertaining. I liked the characters, particularly Kendall and Adam. I thought they were interesting and realistic. The story sometimes seemed slow, but I was able to stay on track and stick with the story. I love a fun FBI thriller, and this one did not disappoint.

I just couldn't get into this book. The narrator didn't come off as natural while reading and I kept getting jarred out of the fictional world and wondering why a character said something the way they did. I'm not opposed to characters that swear a lot; however, Sparks' protagonist came off as if the swearing was how they decided to show their character has a personality instead of actually giving her a personality.

Following that I found it difficult to care about the characters and just couldn't get excited about reading this. A rare DNF novel for me.

This was my first time reading this author and it won’t be the last. She’s thoroughly impressed me.

The Wrong Woman is a very well written thriller. The suspense was brilliant and I suspected the wrong person. Kendall Beck was a brilliant character. She’s an FBI agent who’s the sole survivor of the Denver Reaper case. Kendall is driven and is a character that I could get behind. Detective Adam Taylor was fantastic.

Absolutely fantastic read!! The Narrator was very good and I hung onto each word.
The story had me going through a variety of emotions. The author makes you feel for the victims, the survivors and it resonated really well with me. A very well articulated book.

I thought the majority of this book was really good. The beginning and ending were really good, very action packed and fast-paced. The middle of the book was very slow and too long. I had a hard time staying engaged with the story line.

This is a very Debut Author read.

The premise is good, the writing is fine, but it moves a bit slowly and isn't super tightly-plotted. There are a lot of inconsistencies in the story, particularly related to Kendall Beck's personal history, and I think this could have benefitted from a bit more editing and some storyboarding to clear up a lot of the issues.

I read enough books that there are a few dramatic moments that are really lazy and incomplete.

Erin DeWard is the audiobook narrator and she was fine. The issue I have with the book is with its contents, not the delivery of them.

I received a copy of this audiobook for free from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

There’s nothing like having double mysteries in one book. The cases were interesting, intense and at times I forgot about one crime while the other one was in motion.
The common denominator in the parallel stories is FBI agent Kendall Beck………good at her job with personal history as a victim herself as a young person and now as an advocate to victims. She’s easily riled which gets her in trouble with her superiors and as a result has to be removed from her case. Detective Adam Taylor is introduced into the mix and they form an interesting work relationship the listener hopes will continue in future books.
The title, as you would expect, involves the murder of Kendall's roomie who was borrowing her car at the time of her murder. Was Kendall, and her involvement and subsequent heated dismissal from the case of a missing child, really the intended victim? Did her history as a victim, herself, play a role in the reason the perpetrator has focused on her. And what do all three cases have in common? That is, besides Kendall!!!!!
Good thing this was an audio book, because I would not have been able to turn the pages fast enough.

3.75⭐
For the most part I liked this one and it kept me pretty engaged. We have to follow along with a couple different story lines of missing people and dead people that weave around and into each other.

FBI agent, Kendall Beck is working a case of a missing 5 year old girl, Emily (luckily she's found) when her best friend and roommate, Gwen, goes missing and ultimately turns up dead.
While Detective Adam Taylor is already working on the murder of a woman named Jenna, he is given Gwen's case to solve. Could the deaths be linked to something that happened in Kendall's past?

I liked that each chapter gave the date and time, but that would probably be easier to keep track of when you read it, not listen to it.
Although I found some things predictable, I did not see one little zinger coming and that was exciting.

Now about the narration ~ I know it must be super hard for them to keep track of different voice tones for different characters and I give them major props for that, however I could really only enjoy this narrators regular voice she used for Kendall. I really wish there was a male narrator for Adam's pov parts.

I wouldn't mind a possible series with Kendall and Adam teaming up again.

TW: child molestation and some brutal, graphic scenes

What a thriller! The narrator did a great job with voice changes for all of the characters in this fast paced suspense novel. You could feel all of the various emotions that FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck was dealing with all the way to the end! She finds herself having to deal with her past trauma while dealing with two cases at one time. Will she find the killer of her best friend, Gwen Tavich and the child molester of a 5 year old child? Has The Reaper strucker again? Once you start listening, you won't be able to turn it off!
