Thanks to Netgalley for an advance copy of this audiobook. It comprises everything a solid police procedural should be, with a uniquely horrible villian, and numerous red herrings along the way. I enjoyed it so much I went to Ausible to search for more by this author, bur this must be her debut novel, if so, it is a very well written book that touches on the most evil of societies monsters, while still providing hope for the future. An author to follow, and if you enjoy police procedurals and domestic thrillers, give this one a listen. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Kendall Beck is an FBI agent living in Denver. She is particularly qualified to understand victims of abuse as the lone survivor of the "Reaper" serial killer. Partly due to that traumatic experience, she thrives on saving others. The story opens with the disappearance of a 5 year old named Emily Williams. The details of the case are gruesome but Kendall is making progress when her roommate, Gwen Tavich, disappears. There is a lot going on in this book!

Gwen is soon discovered dead and Kendall is heartbroken. Denver detective Adam Taylor is investigating the death, soon classified as a homicide, Kendall joins forces with Adam, while still working on Emily William's case. As Kendall digs deeper into both cases, the evidence mounts and the intrigue grows. Then more bodies are discovered - the Reaper is back! As Kendall's past traumas are brought to the forefront, she must get ready to confront her deepest fears.

I was kind of "ehh" about this book. There was a lot going on, almost too much to keep track of. There was so much action, it didn't feel believable. There were an awful lot of coincidences, and things tying together neatly. Life is never really like that - life is messy. I kept losing my focus on the story because I would think that something was not authentic, believable or realistic, and that thought would distract me. There were also many, many characters. I think if there had been fewer characters, they could have been better developed and more impactful. As it was, I could barely remember who anyone was. There was a lot of action, so if you like non-stop activity and drama this may be the book for you. I didn't hate it but I definitely didn't love it.

The Wrong Woman was a police procedural about an FBI agent who helps children. Also happening are serial murders and a missing roommate. The story just went along without being particularly thrilling or mysterious. Weirdly, there are a lot of books about women who go into law enforcement after escaping a killer. I mean, a lot. This one didn’t seem to o stand out in a good nor a bad way. The plot was, sadly, very predictable and had some trouble keeping my interest.

An auspicious debut novel. An easy, fast paced, intense and gripping thriller that makes for a riveting read. This wonderfully crafted story with well developed and compelling characters has twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat right to the last page. It was so captivating and exciting that I simply couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I really enjoyed listening to this book! It was a good thriller/mystery and the narrator was so good!

This is a debut is mystery/police procedural suspense novel, set in Denver, and featuring FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck and police detective Adam Taylor. The plot revolves around three cases – a serial killer, a missing child, and a missing roommate. I assume this is the first book of a series and it seems like a solid start – there is some good potential for character development. The audiobook was a fine distraction, but really wasn’t memorable – for me, there was little to distinguish it from other woman who escaped a killer and became a feisty FBI agent to fight for justice for all who is partnered with an attractive, more evenly-tempered law enforcement male. The three plots all intertwining at the end didn’t really resonate with me – I thought it would have been better to have the child abuse case remain separate. At the end, there is a statement that says that Williams did not fit ANY of the characteristics of serial killer, and that people who molested their kids weren’t serial killers. Yes, it’s possibly, but the unlikely was used to drive a plot. The narrator of this book was fine -she had a pleasant voice. Rating between 3-3.5 stars.

After reading this one, I'm looking forward to more books from Ms Sparks. Lots of details, action, intrigue to keep the reader engaged and entertained!

The narrator was ok. Not one of my faves, but did a decent job of holding my interest.

The twists to this story are awesome! How it all ties together makes you wonder how you didn’t catch it while reading… all the while there’s love, loss, murder and deception. A past that unbelievably comes full circle and law enforcement trying to get it right.

This novel was phenomenally narrated by Erin DeWard and fabulously written by Sparks! It will keep you entertained from start to finish.

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Leanne Kale Sparks and Dreamscape Media for providing me with an advanced Audiobook copy of this publication which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

Started off slow, a lot of detail and different characters, but the end really twisted and left me guessing wrong. Would definitely recommend

FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck is involved in a missing child incident while at the same time her roommate goes missing. The story gets very graphic multiple times--if was a print book and not an audio book I would have skipped ahead.

The narrator did a solid job.

More, please! Kendall, an FBI agent, is a strong female character. She makes wise decisions and comes across as a genuine character. She has a good rapport with Adam, a police officer, and I liked their friendship. There were some good laugh-out-loud moments and banter, in addition to funny character thoughts. The Novak character was unlikable.
The pace is fast and goes even faster toward the end, which I loved. However, the side story at times got confusing in the middle but made sense at the end. The person revealed as the killer was a bit unbelievable.

The narrator had many audible breath intakes that were distracting.

I am all over the place with this one. It held my interest and I enjoyed it. I also had it figured out immediately <spoiler>the title pretty much gave it away</spoiler>. I really debated on how to rate this. I did enjoy it, but on top of knowing the plot from the get-go, there are also some questionable portions of the plot. (I also know way too much about crime and investigation. I blame it entirely on Dateline.) The connections are also a bit too far fetched for my liking. So, basically, it is enjoyable as long as you do not get too distracted by specifics.

The narrator for the audiobook, Erin DeWard, is not one I am familiar with by name, but she did a good job. No complaints from me.

This was a solid thriller. I enjoyed the dueling story lines. The twist was pretty surprising. It was hard to read in parts. Trigger warning: child abuse. It lacked some character development and was slow in parts. However, overall I enjoyed it.

The best way I can describe this book is to say it's solid. It's got good cases, good characters, good writing, it moves quickly. It has all of the pieces for an awesome mystery. There just wasn't anything to make it stand out among the hundreds of other mysteries out there. I would still read more stories surrounding Kendall and/or Adam because I really liked them, but I'd like to see something that makes it stand out. Either a crazy unique case or a crazy unique setting, just something so that when people ask me for recommendations it jumps to the front of my mind.

I really enjoyed the fast paced nature of this book! The Wrong Woman sucked me in from the beginning, and I could not stop reading until I finished. I really enjoyed the main character, Kendall, and found myself rooting for her the whole time. I thought the ending was clever with a perfect amount of twist at the end. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to those that love thrillers and can handle the gruesome content.

I really enjoyed this book! I’m not usually a fan of books with a detective POV, but this one had me hooked. This is a must read for mystery lovers. I’m a seasoned mystery thriller reader and I didn’t expect for the book to wrap up the way it did. Would definitely read from this author again. I was sent an e-book to read courtesy of NetGalley but all opinions are my own.

There are very few 'perfect' thrillers in this world. So in the absence of perfection, I really just want the plot and the story to be more engaging than the imperfections are off-putting. And The Wrong Woman definitely succeeds in that regard. A few minor things bugged me, but for the most part they were minor compared to the overall arc of the story. Would definitely recommend.

The Wrong Woman by Leanne Kale Sparks
Narrated by Erin DeWard
Stars: 4.4 Stars

FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck narrowly escaped a serial killer years ago. Ever since then, she's been on a mission to save others and put the bad guys behind bars. Kendall is investigating a pedophile case at the same time that her best friend and roommate, Gwen Tavich, is found murdered. With the help of homicide detective Adam Taylor, Kendall works to figure out what happened to Gwen while trying to find more evidence to put Scott Williams away for life so that he doesn't hurt any more little girls.

The main storyline, which is Gwen's murder, was great. It drew me in and I couldn't wait to hear what happened next. The two other (more) minor storylines, the Scott Williams case and the Jade Rose? case weren't as well thought out and, though the Scott Williams storyline did have a place in the story, it just seemed a bit out of place throughout much of the story. I definitely enjoyed this book though and thought that Ms. DeWard's narration added a lot of tone and depth to the story. She read the story with a lot of feeling, which really made the characters come to life. I'd definitely read and listen to more by both Ms. Sparks and Ms. DeWard.

Thanks to #NetGalley, #DreamscapeMedia, and the author for this ARC and the opportunity to listen to and review it!

This is my first book by this author and I found it engaging. FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck is investigating the notorious "Reaper" serial killer. Her experience has inspired her to seek justice for survivors of abuse. She is investigating the case of five-year-old Emily Williams, when her roommate and best friend, Gwen Tavich is found dead. This is a Crime/Police Thriller/Mystery. I did really enjoy reading this book, and it pulled me into this story. There’s 2 ongoing investigations in the book, with 2 POV’s (Kendall & Adam). I really liked these characters. I wasn’t as impressed with the mysteries in the book but overall it was an enjoyable listen. The focus of the plot is on the investigation into Kendall's roommate's murder, which is treated just like a regular police investigation. In addition, some of the descriptions in the book, particularly regarding crimes against a child, were too disturbing for me to stomach. I really wanted to like this book, but there was just too much going on. There were three major storylines and while they did all connect at the end, I felt like it was forced and didn’t make much sense to me. The little girl’s story was heartbreaking and I was invested in learning what happened to Kendall’s roommate. However, the serial killer plot was barely there and it didn’t add the suspense I was expecting. I am very skeptical about the serial killer’s identity. I see what the author was trying to do with connecting all the storylines, but it just didn’t work for me. The writing was strong otherwise and Kendall was a likable character, so I’m on the fence. Make sure you check out the trigger warnings for this one before reading. Check this one out - published Feb 8, 2022.

Thank you to Crooked Lane Books, the author and NetGalley for the ARC.
