20 years after her 7 year old daughter is murdered, Susan makes a trip to watch her killer be executed.

But is he the killer?

This book gripped me from the very beginning, with a strong female lead who let's nothing stop her.
My emotions were all over the place throughout this book, and even towards the end, my heart was absolutely racing.
With this book being loosely based off a true story, I love it even more.
I just wish we got a bit more at the end about what happened to Danny.

I absolutely recommend this book for any reader who enjoys a good page turning thriller.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Throughout enjoyed this book! If it hadn’t been for a few parts I felt it slightly slow it would’ve been a 5 star review from me.

Twenty years ago, Susan lost her daughter to abduction and murder. An arrest was made and the killer was sentenced to death. As the execution approaches and Susan makes plans to attend the execution, doubts surface, leaving Susan to wonder if the real killer is behind bars or has been left to walk free. Susan’s journey toward the truth takes some unexpected twists and turns and she must fight her way through obstacle after obstacle in her quest for truth and justice for her daughter. Susan is written in such a way that the reader will join her on her rollercoaster of doubt, following her instincts, and all of the emotions that come with it. I felt along with her and found her character to be relatable, real, and well written and developed. I’m uncertain if the procedural end of the story was well researched and had some moments of “would that really happen that way?”, but it was not enough to detract from the plot or the connection with the characters. A solid, emotionally provocative read. #TheNecklace #NetGalley #ReadingEscape #JennReviews

The Necklace, by Matt Witten, is a gripping suspense with all the feels. I got so caught up in this book that I ended up reading it in just a few hours. I'm not a huge fan of alternating timelines so I mostly stuck with reading the "present day" chapters. I thought the main character was a pretty cool mom because she wasn't about to give up on finding the truth.
Susan Lentigo is ready to go on a road trip to watch her daughter's killer finally be executed. She's been waiting over 20 years for Amy to get justice.
Along the way she happens upon new evidence that seems to point to the condemned man's innocence. Even more shocking is that the new evidence appears to point to someone she once trusted with her very life.
Now Susan just needs to convince the FBI to reopen the case. But if she can't even convince her own mom, how on earth will she manage to convince them?! She's out of resources but with a little help from two caring souls she's going out on a limb for the man she believes is innocent.

This book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley…it is a book of horror and murder…red herrings…unlikable characters…unlikely scenarios but realistic actually…difficult to put down…difficult to read…a book of contradictions…this author has woven a lifelike story…

Thank you NetGalley for letting me read and review this book.

I loved the title and the book cover, so I had high expectations of this book. I did enjoy it, but it wasn't as fast paced as I was expecting.

I was gripped with the central character Susan from the start of the book, which draws you in really quickly. The story was slow it parts but over all, I really enjoyed the storyline of the book and it got you thinking about the different scenarios, as to what could happen. I couldn't put it down, as I wanted to know what happened.

The book does mention child abuse and some of the wording is close to the bone. I would definitely read more books by Matt Witten.

When it comes time for the execution of Amy’s, Susan’s daughter, murderer and rapist, Susan makes the long trek from the Adirondacks to North Dakota to be there. Although, this journey is more eventful than she planned.

After her car breaks down, she is stuck riding the bus there, plopping her into the town where her ex-husband and Amy’s father live. Deciding to get off the bus and tell him about the execution, Susan makes a discovery that changes her perspective of who killed her child: her ex’s new daughter has the same exact necklace that went missing after Amy was murdered.

This sparks a hunt for the truth, in hopes of ensuring that the soon-to-be-executed man is truly guilty: he has adamantly stated he is innocent, and Susan wonders now if he is telling the truth.

I really enjoyed this book, I grew up spending a lot of my time in the ADK Park and have lived there on and off for years now, so it was a great surprise to read a book set there.

This story was a heartbreaking story though, with a very satisfying ending at the end as the truth is revealed. This is an interesting book, as it is kinda investigationy but also about a woman coming to terms with her grief after 20 years.

This book was good but hard to read at times for the action that happens in it. There were some twists to the story however. Overall, it was a triller.

I loved the premise of this book but it didn't quite live up to what I'd hoped for. I felt the book dragged and nothing really happened until literally 50% into the book (according to my kindle anyways). And thats when things kind of start to get a bit interesting. If you are after a thriller or a book woth twists and turns then this may not be the one, if you're after a chick lit book about a mother seeking justice for her daughter then you'll probably get more iht of it than I did. In saying that, once it did get a tad interesting, I was very curious as to what the outcome would be. The big reveal at the end was incredibly unlikely but at least it was some kind of twist..... and then a very abrupt end lol.

This book has dragged me out of my recent reading slump as I just could not put it down. The storyline is gripping right until the very end (quite literally the last 3 pages!) and I was desperate to find out what the end result would be for heartbroken mother, Susan when she goes to North Dakota to see the her child’s murderer be executed on Death Row. Great characters and a plot that keeps you guessing. I loved it!

In The Necklace, Susan flips back and forth between the past, when her seven year old daughter Amy was murdered, and the present, as she makes her way to the convicted killer's execution. However, she begins to find new clues and suspects the man on death row is innocent. Susan is a frustrating character in the mistakes she makes and how she happens to stumble on the truth. The story would have been a lot different if these clues had turned up twenty years ago. I would have liked to hear the perspective of the man on death row or peek into the interrogation room. Overall, I found the story to be a little predictable and wouldn't recommend it.

I expected more from this book, but disappointed with it really, no great mystery as it was very predictable ..

Recommended as an Amazon Editor’s Pick for Best Mystery and Thriller: right now I feel the Amazon Editor’s Book Club, Things That Go Bump in the Night, is spot on, so I choose a lot of these. Matt Witten’s “The Necklace” was no exception — it has great plot, led by an unforgettable female character: a down on her luck mother on her way across country to the execution of a man convicted for her 7 year old daughter’s murder. The narrative was original and suspenseful and the supporting characters (a wild child girl willing to help and a tired and retired but sympathetic FBI agent). Not a lot of thrillers are about the aftermath of victims’ families and this one was very heartfelt. I did not see the end coming and I like when I’m surprised. 5 stars!

Sadly this one didn't really work for me.
I found the behaviour of most of the characters a little too unbelievable too many times.
I read to the end,as I was interested enough in the who of the story.

A story full of suspenseful moments, interesting characters and an unexpected ending.
I got hooked on it from the first chapter and couldn’t stop reading because I had so many questions and feelings for the heroine and what she had to go through.
Great writing and engaging story overall.
