I love Allison Brennan, she knows how to do myself! This book did not disappoint. It was full of tension and plenty of drama. The characters were easy to connect with and well fleshed out. I read this book rather quickly, I could not put it down!

Allison Brennan ups both the personal and professional tension in The Wrong Victim. Matt Costa and Kara Quinn, along with the rest of their FBI Mobile Response Team, are tasked with solving a boat bombing in scenic Washington. Professionally there are many directions for this case -- and personally, the tension between Matt and Kara, along with Catherine in the mix, makes for a difficult balance. Catherine doesn't respect Kara or her background -- and Kara, well she's Kara , and is going to do her job and trust her gut no matter what. This is a solid additional to an already must-read series by Ms. Brennan. Twists, turns, and really likeable, fabulous characters make this book un-put-downable.. Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for an advanced copy of this incredible book!

Catherine Jones, forensic psychiatrist for the FBI, FBI Agent Michael Harris and FBI Agent Mathias “Matt” Costa are just three of the investigators on the San Juan “Water Lily” charter boat explosion. Former LAPD Detective Kara Quinn also plays a key role in this story. She was assigned to the FBI team while awaiting her opportunity to testify against a very bad man. Sheriff John Rassmussen is the very kind and helpful liaison for the local sheriff’s office.

The team is in the San Juan Islands off the western coast of Washington State to investigate a bombing. A bomb was set off on a charter cruise in Friday Harbor and there were no survivors. The local environmental group has been picketing and just generally harassing the local charter service. They, of course, make very good suspects.

The group has a long list of complaints, real and imagined, against the business.

But there are other suspects to look at as well.

An underlying theme of this book is the intense dislike between Catherine and Kara. There are mitigating factors in this as explained in the novel.

This book is packed with drama and tension. It is laid out very well, well written and plotted. I thought perhaps it was a little too long in places. Ms. Brennan writes a good book. She completely fills out her characters and makes them interesting, if not exactly likable. .surprisingly, this is my first Alison Brennan book, and I’ll certainly look on Amazon for more of her work.

I want to thank NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/MIRA for forwarding to me a copy of this good book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.
