Boardwalk is the fifth book in the series of the fictional Providence Island Series. Boardwalk features Ben and Stacey's story. Ben, who moved to Providence Island, the former hitman is determined to keep his "mother" Dana safe. He's in a relationship with Stacey and both seem happy in it. When murders occur, Ben will be in the spotlight after finding the bodies.
I liked this book, but it took me awhile to get into it. There were many characters in this story which made it hard to follow. Also, there was back story that added another layer of trying to get to know the rhythm of the book.

Boardwalk is Dianna Wilkes' fifth book in the Providence Island series. This series follows a blended & extended family as they navigate life, murders, mysteries, and the situations that come up as a result of various relationships within their structure. In this installment, Ben Hampshire comes across Glenn Thornton shortly after he was shot in the parking lot of his former business that is now owned by the husband of a woman who took Ben under her wing after his own mother died when he was young.
Although this is the first book of this series that I have read, the author did an excellent job of providing a basic history for the characters, the island, and the relationships without spoiling the plotlines of the earlier books in case a reader chooses to go back and read them. As the story unfolded, I found the plot twists and introduction of potential suspects to be riveting and understandable when the investigators focused on the individuals due to situations that appeared suspicious. As with real life, there are personality conflicts between some of the characters which only add to the storyline and led to some misdirection in the overall plot.
The tidbits of the backstory that are included in this story, as well as the writing style, makes me want to go back and read the entire series. I look forward to following this series to see where it goes from here.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. Character development was good. The plot was very interesting. Not a lot of typos.

This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review…a mystery of intrigue…family and friends…love…romance… murder…this book has many themes running through it…at times, the story moves slowly, and it is somewhat difficult keeping the numerous characters sorted. However it is a good read…

Boardwalk by Dianna Wilkes initially read like a cozy mystery but became much more. There's a lot going on under the surface. Great descriptive writing, and a wealth of interesting characters, I loved this book. Recommend. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
