I decided to DNF. I did not enjoy any of the characters. The first chapter drew me in but then it fell to pieces after that.

Books dealing with therapists and their patients are always interesting because they deal with a wide variety of human behavior and the responses and consequences of that behavior. This book starts out with an unnamed narrator who is stalking a young woman-watching her every move. Then we meet the main character of the book Laina Landers, a therapist who is in practice with a partner in a business called Better Life. Laina is devoted to her patients and is called to the scene of a patient whose husband is holding her hostage with a loaded gun. It is at this time when we also meet the other main character, Cal Murray, an African-American journalist who is interested in the hostage story and Laina herself.

This could have been a four star story for me but it digresses too much into other genres like romance and racial inequality and the thriller aspect is often pushed aside for these other parts of the story. Laina and Cal are very attracted to each other and she risks giving up too much information on her patients because she wants to help Cal get stories. When other of her patients begin receiving strange gifts and other things happen in their life, Cal seeks out the bigger story. There are a lot of romantic scenes between the two and not much happens in the thriller realm for most of the book. I'm not sure I would even call this a thriller although I liked both Laina and Cal and wanted to see what would happen. I also had some issues with Cal and his job. As a former journalist myself I can say that most of us don't have agents and the ones that do have agents that are trying to get them a news anchor spot or a spot on a TV Show. Cal's agent appears to get him individual local news stories which doesn't make a lot of sense since these are very time sensitive and are usually given to staff unless they are articles for magazines in which case, they would be assigned directly to Cal not awarded through an agent.

I did guess the twist at the ending but that type of thing doesn't change my view of a story. I liked finding out the different issues faced by Laina's patients and was interested in what was happening to them, but I would have liked more a thriller and less of a romance story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dr. Lana Landers is a marriage and family therapist. One night the police call her to the scene of a hostage situation where the husband of one of her patients has a gun and won't let her go. She manages to talk him down and becomes an instant media star. All is not good in her world, however. Her patients are being harassed by someone who is sending them "gifts" directly related to their sins of their pasts. Even the doctor is the victim of a home invasion. She realizes that someone is out to get her as well.

Cal Murray, an investigative journalist, tries to help her find the person responsible. There are twists and turns and the ending was a surprise to me. 4 out of 5 stars.

This was an okay page turner; not my favorite, but I read so many thrillers that I'm pretty picky about them. Will purchase for the library though.

Who is wreaking chaos on a psychiatrist's book of patients?

A new to town investigative journalist finds himself on the scene of a crime. He decides to find out who is behind all this chaos.

This is was a good book. I think the book could have been better if the narrative had been from the patient's perspectives instead of their counselor.

Privacy was a thriller that I couldn't put down! Liana is a therapist and is disturbed when someone starts targeting her patients. I really enjoyed the exploration of the characters, and the twist ending is not one I saw coming!

Privacy by Nina Sadowsky was a fast paced thriller that I couldn’t put down. Liana, is a therapist who cares about her patients, but when someone starts targeting her practice and patients she is at a lost as to who it could be. This book kept me guessing and I didn’t see the surprise ending coming. Thanks to Netgalley for this Arc.

Loved it! Not a fast read for me, rather a slow burn. Richly flawed characters drive a well developed plot filled with deceit, sex, voyeurism and therapy? Yes, yes and yes! I really thought I knew “who done it”, but not even close! A great twist and a truly satisfying, if maybe far fetched, ending. This would make a great Netflix series!

Another psychotherapist with a mysterious past and an unhinged 'watcher'-Feels like you've read something like this before? Well, you night have, but there is a satisfying twist at the end, so I recommend you keep with it! Laina is building a name for herself in the therapy world and is ready to continue to grow her business and does a great job selling herself when she is televised talking down a local politician who is threatening to end his wife's life. But not so fast! Her clients begin to receive mysterious packages with a cryptic "I'm watching you" note attached and slowly their secrets begin to swim to the surface and their lives begin to unravel. Naturally, Laina is stumped as to who would have access to her clientele and her confidential notes. Of course, there is the typical journalist falls for the subject of his reports and they embark on a scintillating love affair. Some of this has already been done, as I mentioned before. The twist at the end is a good one-so I'm giving it a 3.5.

It seems that someone is watching Dr Laina Landers patients. But what is the connection? The chapters switch between Dr Landers and "the Watcher". When a new romance with Cal, an investagative journalist, begains to get to close, things happen. I have to say that this book did have a good twist. I received a copy from Netgalley for an honest review.

Privacy--it's something that, even for those of us with darker skeletons in our closet, we're all entitled to.

Or is it?

This gripping psychological thriller centers on Dr. Laina Landers and the patients at her successful therapeutic practice. When Landers becomes an overnight media sensation after de-escalating a client from what could have been a heinous act of violence, it becomes clear that someone is watching not only Landers, but many of her patients. What's worse--they don't care to hide it.

Nina Sadowsky pens a great page-turned in "Privacy." It's perfectly-paced, infused with some romance, and laden with a heavy undertone of suspense that lingers after every chapter. Sadowsky's background as a screenwriter serves this book exceptionally well. The story has great build-up, pretty good plot complexity, and an ending that's sure to leave readers blindsided in the best way.

For me, "Privacy" is a cut above most psychological thrillers. Beneath the bulk of the story where the central plot lives is a very nuanced commentary on what privacy, at its core, is in our modern, technology-centric world; further, does it ever really exist in the first place?

If you're a reader in the mental health field or one that can appreciate a protagonist in the field (and her complex inner dialogues as a result of being so), this book is especially for you. It checks all the boxes for a quick but very solid read that's propelled both by an interesting plot and complex characters.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the copy of Privacy. This is the first book I have read by this author but will certainly read more. The story was engaging and I loved Cal’s character! He was such a go-getter and reading about how he researched and reported stories. I would love to see him have his own book series.
Laina had really interesting clients and they were woven into the story well. The book really kept me guessing because there were so many suspects. The ending felt clumsy but it was still a surprise.
Another surprise is how two therapists would use social media and have their profiles visible - I can’t imagine a therapist would do this and still keep a professional distance from clients. Also, the two Asian characters were not good. The book made fun of one and the other was unethical. In these days when Asian hate is prevalent I don’t know how this was allowed.

I always enjoy domestic thrillers centering around psychiatrists and I always enjoys books written by Nina Sadowsky so I relished the anticipation of starting this new novel. Dr Landers feels a little stereotyped so you know you are in for a few major surprises along the way. While I guessed the big one halfway through I was still invested to see how it all played out. The author injects a new romance into the story and I welcomed the interaction. Maybe we can give the boyfriend a new series?

A promising beginning fizzled out for me halfway through. I skimmed through the last half, and thought the ending was unbelievable and overwrought.

I really thought I had an idea of how this book would end, but I was proved wrong. I won't say anything to spoil it for others, but this is a good read!

I received this book from NetGalley in return for a review.

Dr. Lana Landers is horrified when it seems her patients are being targeted by a stalker. Families and individuals coming to her for therapy should feel safe. They need to feel safe. When one man holds his wife hostage with a gun to her head, Lana is able to show up and calm the situation so that nobody gets hurt. An anonymous "gift" incited the situation, and a local reporter was there to get the scoop, but Lana isn't keen on publicity. Her concern is privacy for her patients.

Cal, the investigative journalist, continues to follow the story. Lana's partner convinces her to do an interview to gain good press for their practice. When Lana starts to fall for the roving reporter, she can't help but wonder how more of her patients are receiving anonymous gifts. Is it a coincidence that the reporter happens to show up at the scene? Is it a former patient or employee seeking revenge? When Lana's partner is accused of something horrible, she knows she needs to get to the bottom of the situation.

Although I found the ending rather predictable, I still enjoyed the journey. Each patient had a unique set of characteristics and circumstances that led them to therapy, and therefore reacted differently to the anonymous gift. I found myself liking Lana and Cal, and could even see myself reading future books with Cal breaking other news stories.
