If you have every wondered how famous and rich people can get themselves into a quandary this is the book for you. I was very surprised by many of the aspects of this book, and how they felt to me to be unrealistic, but in the end I am sure they are very real for people living a different life than I have. I did enjoy the characters and the story. You are rooting for the main character throughout and in typical Steel fashion she gets her happy ending.

This was a confusing book to read as it had so many flash back scenes and a lot of repetitive info. I did finish the book and the last half was better

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of Suspects. Thoroughly entertaining book that I read over the weekend. I'm never disappointed in a Danielle Steel book and this one is no different. Highly recommend.

I was given an eARC of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
This review does contain spoilers!!!
When I saw that Danielle Steel had a new book coming out, I was thrilled and pressed that “wish for this book to read in advance” button so quickly it would make your head spin! But sadly, this book was not good. The writing is very scattered and repetitive. We are given the same information over and over again. The characters think back to the same moments in time, have “flashbacks” continuously. The romance of the two main characters was “activated” so quickly into the book it was highly unbelievable. There is no way a person of Theo’s reputation, class and public figure status would form a relationship with a perfect stranger (Mike) as quickly as she did especially with the way he was approaching her and his weird questions. There was no twist to the book. The plot was quite predictable and yawn-worthy. A character introduced in the beginning of the book was described as very handsome and bi-sexual yet he never had 1 love interest in the book so why that was even a necessary detail is beyond me. He actually made very few appearances in the book. He was sprinkled into a scene and then gone again. His character was not built at all as far as details. Sooooo, not sure what that was about. There is also no way a CIA agent has as much freedom as Mike has in the book. That was very unbelievable too. It just seemed like the backgrounds of the characters were not researched well before the book was written. Once you’re told about someone dying in the book, you don’t have to repeat it in each chapter and the next and the next. We read it the first time. We know. Sigh.
I have always given low stars for poorly written books and this book is very poorly written. Also, I very much hope the publisher’s proofreader re-proofs this before sending it to final print. There are many, many misspelled words.

Very disappointed as this is not indicative of a Danielle Steel book.

My vanilla radar rating: This book loses 2 stars for reasons I have stated above and loses another star for the numerous amount of explicit sexual scenes and foul language.

Another great book! Full of suspense, romance and Paris. Loved it! No one writes engrossing stories like Danielle Steel. A must read!

Theodora is our main character in this story. We learn of her tragic background where her husband and son were kidnapped and killed. Her life has continued as she leads both her and her husband's businesses, but now she is always surrounded by security to prevent further danger.
Theodora begins to branch out again and has a trip to New York City planned. Another passenger on the plane pops up on the radar of the CIA which leads to some tracking, and more awareness of Theodora. CIA op Mike Andrews is intrigued by the man who triggered their alert, but he becomes quite invested in Theodora, both professionally and personally.
This story is a classic Steel romance, and includes a good deal of intrigue and mystery.

SUSPECTS
BY: DANIELLE STEEL

A huge debt of gratitude to Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine-Delecorte Press for granting me my wish, thus making this excellent pulse pounding and heartbreaking novel available. So, Thank you to both the publisher, Danielle Steel and Net Galley for generously providing me with my Advanced Reader's Copy.

Theodora has just been dealt the most heartbreaking blow of having her husband and only child murdered by a botched Ransom. She may seem like she has it all, but Theodora has been left reeling by having her son ripped away forever at a tender age. Her husband that was much older than her is also a huge loss. So I felt terrible for Theo and someone else did too. They lived in Paris but Theo has caught the attention of a Senior Agent in New York's Central Intelligence Agency named Mike who felt protective of her, also. Checking on a flagged opportunist Mike reaches out to two International agencies his counterpart at MI6 and also the French equivalent of the CIA, which is the DGSE-which stands for Direction generale de la securite exterieure.

Theodora has just come out of seclusion for a year, while running her and her dead husband's businesses from home and has just been convinced to work behind the scenes in her Theo.com fashion business in New York and two other cities. As CIA Senior Agent Mike digs deeper into Theo's loss he worries for her security because the killers got away with the murders. He boldly shows up at her New York event posing as a lawyer and purchasing one of her designer pocket books he tells Theo that it is for his only remaining family--his sister. He is so impressed at how vulnerable and authentic she is, he invites her for a simple dinner. It takes place at a Diner where they eat delicious Burgers and share a Banana Split. There is a spark and a chemistry that they both mutually feel at what a good time they had. Mike voices that he doesn't want to cross any lines since she lost her family. She assures Mike that she enjoyed herself and he is off to Paris a month later and she is more open to meeting again. Mike in the meantime is making sure that Theo stays safe by increasing her security detail by getting in touch with both counterparts in Europe.

This solidifies Danielle Steel's talent in her latest novel, "Suspects," that she can write action packed suspense while the race is on to keep Theo safe by writing authentically about International Government Agencies and how they interact with each other. Yes. This was a romance novel but it was intriguing and interesting. I really enjoyed this and I am impressed how Danielle Steel is able to co-create believable characters with authentic problems. I am as ever amazed at how she manages to craft novels with different and distinct plots. I am grateful to have read this and it came to me at the perfect time. Theo and Mike have only just gotten started with the unpredictable trajectories both of their lives are about to take.

This is classic Danielle Steel. The protagonist is a strong, successful, single woman (widowed or divorced) of great beauty and wealth who unexpectedly gets a second chance at romance. While the basic construct has been used before, the author manages to add a fresh touch with each book.

Theodora Morgan is an ex-patriot living in Paris. She began her own highly successful fashion business straight out of college at age 22. Theo married Matthieu Pasquier, an older Frenchman whose family lost their reputation and fortune after supporting the Nazi regime during WWII and who subsequently restored the family’s wealth through his highly successful businesses of selling luxury brands. When Matthieu and their 13 year old son are kidnapped and murdered, Theo is devastated, shunning all social activities and focusing on the businesses during a year of mourning. Unfortunately, the authorities were unsuccessful in solving the case and it had gone cold with no new leads, only speculation about the perpetrators.

When Theo travels to New York to create a “pop-up” store for her fashion line, she meets Pierre de Laumont and extends an invitation to him to attend the opening party for the store. Pierre, a “matchmaker” in business deals, is being monitored for his entry into the United States due to his connections with dubious characters. Mike Andrews, a senior supervising CIA agent, is contacted and when he realizes that Theo may be a target of de Laumont, he orchestrates an unexpected encounter with her and is captivated by her looks and persona. Mike dedicates himself to helping re-open the kidnapping/murder case with French and British authorities and to protecting Theo from danger herself. In the process he falls in love with her and his feelings are reciprocated.

This book is part romance and part mystery. I have no idea if the details of the investigations and intelligence operations in Europe are accurate, but as a storyline it worked for me. The characters of Theo and Mike are engaging and likeable and Pierre serves well as a counterpoint “villain.” Overall, I found the book entertaining and a quick read with a satisfying conclusion.

My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This review is being posted immediately to my GoodReads account and will be posted on Amazon upon publication.

Suspects by Danielle Steel. I don't know how she does it but Ms Steel has written another engaging story. Likeable and strong characters in Theo and Mike. More suspense with kidnappings, cold case, Russian gangs, the CIA and M16 and the French Police are an integral part of the story.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

Unlike many Danielle Steel novels, this one doesn’t have the main character— a woman— painted as a feeble, weak, reliant on a man to exist. Suspects was a quick, likable read with strong characters who you root for. It’s hard to find things about them that were unlikeable. A nice turn in the stable of established books.

This book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley. Wealth...France...Government...Police...Murder...Mystery...Intrigue...Steel has all of this and more in this novel...a quick read...somewhat different that her usual stories...solving the mystery...catching the murderers is a must for an ending that is not surprising...enjoy...the story does move somewhat slowly at times but...good one...
