Ever since I finished reading A Cosy Christmas at Bridget’s Bicycle Bakery when it was published around Christmas of 2021 and subsequently discovering that there would be a follow up I was absolutely delighted as I loved the first book so much. Fast forward to summer 2023 and now we have A Summer Holiday at Bridget’s Bakery. I’ll be 100% honest and say I was disappointed to discover that it was only a short story and given the long wait to continue reading Bridget’s adventures you couldn’t really blame me when I found out how short it was at under 90 pages. But look pushing this aside, hopefully there will be more from Bridget in the future and I found this to be a short and sweet story which I sped through and did enjoy even if it did leave me hankering for more.

Bridget has been back in her hometown of Mulberry on Sea with her young family for quite some time. She returned after the sudden death of her husband and financial pressures grew and grew. Luckily, her husband’s parents stepped in and offered her a small beach house in the town and she has resided there ever since. The bicycle bakery she set up has gone from strength to strength and Bridget is renowned for her bakes and cakes leading to demand outstripping supply. The business has long outgrown the beach house just like her children twins Olly and Oscar and daughter Freya. People come from miles around for her breads, pastries and delicious cakes, cookies and so much more. So when an opportunity appears to buy the derelict bakery in Mulberry on Sea she jumps at it with the backing of her family and boyfriend Jack.

With so many memories of the bakery from her childhood when it was run by Jilly, Bridget hopes she can recreate those and add her own touch of magic. The only problem is the council do not know who owns the building so it can’t be used for commercial gain. That doesn’t stop Bridget and I adored her idea of a community space to be run alongside the bakery. Given the short length of this story there wasn’t much room for extensive character development or really much to happen in terms of events but Alex Brown does manage to fit in what she can. Bridget is a fantastic character who came from the depths of grief and followed her dreams and made a new life for herself and her children and she did this all through her passion of baking and along the way she met some incredible characters. I loved the little side plot with herself and Jack even if I could guess straightaway what was going and yes it was predictable. As for the owner of the building well that brought a smile to my face for sure.

For me, A Summer Holiday at Bridget’s Bicycle Bakery was a tantalising teaser returning to Bridget’s world for the briefest of times. It’s a lovely, easy, super quick read but that feeling of wanting much more lingered once I had read the final word. Fingers crossed Alex Brown will be bringing us more from Bridget in the near future.

A Summer Holiday at Bridget’s Bicycle Bakery is a novella sequel to Alex Brown’s lovely 2021 A Cosy Christmas at Bridget’s Bicycle Bakery. In this story the reader finds widow Bridget Carrington three years later as she works to reopen the boarded up building that once housed the only bakery in the small hamlet of Mulberry-On-Sea.

The story follows Bridget’s quest to reopen the facility. No one seems to know who owns the property and the town council seems unable to help. But Bridget hasn’t come this far and been this close to stop now. Through perseverance the plan comes together and she is granted a six month lease to be renewed if she can make it work. With hours of elbow grease and an investment for repairs Bridget is able to realize her goals, but not without personal setbacks and surprising results.

This is a fun follow up to a very good novel and I hope there will be more in the future. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

A gorgeous little addition to the Bridget’s Bicycle Bakery reads. It’s been lovely reconnecting with Bridget and her family and to see her continue to thrive in Mulberry On Sea has been wonderful

What a cute little revisit to this world of characters! I always enjoying seeing characters I know and enjoy and seeing where their lives have headed! I found this to be quite a jump from one book to the other, but a necessary step in the progress of their lives!

I was happy to see the bicycle aspect of deliveries was still around even though things with the business are changing! I love that the older members of the community are so valued and cared for!

Hoping there is more to come with these characters!

Thank you to NetGalley, Alex Brown, and One More Chapter for a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review!

Loved catching up with all the characters and residents of Mulberry on Sea from the first book in this series, just a shame it was a short story, as it all ended too quickly, looking forward to the next instalment

Bridget is hoping to expand her little bicycle bakery into a shop but will she be allowed. Can she finally settle and make a true home for herself and her children.

Having read the longer story that precedes this, I was so excited to catch up with Bridget again. This is a very short and sweet story but it just shows how things are for her since the first book ended. There is a little angst in the middle which was a bit predictable but I still enjoyed it. A fun summer short read.

A short story that follows up on Bridget's Bicycle Bakery.

It was nice to catch up with the characters and see what is happening now.

Mulberry On Sea is a quaint town with a lot of atmosphere. All the talk of bread and cake made me hungry.

I suppose it could be read as a standalone but you would be missing out on so much that it wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable..

A fun, quick and easy read..

Thanks to netgalley and One More Chapter for the arc.

This is the second book in this series. It was so lovely to go back to Mulberry by sea, and catch up with the characters.

I loved the descriptions, which made you want to be there. The cakes made your mouth water.

I highly recommend this book.

We go back to Mulberry On Sea for further adventures and meeting old characters from previous books as well as new ones. This is a lovely series, this can be a standalone book but it helps to read the early ones so that you can know about the different characters. Well worth a good read and 5 stars.

Thanks to Negalley and publisher for this ARC

This is the second story in this series and I loved getting the chance to go back to Mulberry by sea. The descriptions are gorgeous and make you feel if not there then somewhere you would love to visit, add in the cakes and characters and you know you are on to a winner with this book.

Fantastic for a holiday read or just cosied up on your sofa, this is a book and a series you wont regret getting stuck into.

Bridget decides to reopen an old, abandoned bakery in Mulberry-On-Sea, however things are as straightforward as she hopes.
You do need to read the previous book in the series, but this is a wonderful reminder of how much I enjoyed that previous book (and the ones before). The only problem is that the delicious food descriptions made me feel hungry all the way through. Definitely recommended.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book and I have already pre-ordered it on release.

Bridget a widow, and her two children are rebuilding their lives in Mulberry by the Sea, and that includes a sweet romance with Jack. She's been baking and delivering the sweets on her bicycle but now she's looking at going brick and mortar. This is a sweet and a bit sentimental story that could have (should have) been longer. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Looking forward to more.

What a sweet interlude this short story made, ideal for the beach or lazy day in the garden.
Bridget had outgrown her beach house bakery and is looking to move into an abandoned bakery in the village.
With the help of boyfriend Jack and her three children her dream may come true bu5there still is the problem of the missing freeholder.
A super satisfying sweet short read

Wonderful warm feel good short read!!!
Loved this latest from Alex Brown as a continuation of the Christmas short read book, of Bridget starting up her bicycle bakery business after losing everything and having to start again in her old home town in a tiny beach house lent by her in-laws.
This one continues Bridget’s story of building her bakery business and continuing being involved in her local community with her little family and dog!
Great holiday read!!
Thank you NetGalley and one more chapter for the early read! Loved it !!
