After reading this gripping crime thriller, I'm motivated to go back and read the other Detective Jo Fournier books. This is an intricate and suspenseful story of two devoted detectives, Jo Fournier and her partner Bob Arnett, chasing two apparently different serial killers. One who seems bent on torturing and killing single mothers who've been accused of child abuse, but kills them in the same way they're alleged to have abused their children. The other who drugs men before they apparently commit suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Add to this a personal storyline involving someone who may be threatening Jo's family and you have an intriguing and fast paced page turner that compels you to read on and find out how this storylines are all interconnected. Gritty, sometimes brutal, M.M. Chouinard's writing deals with issues of justice and morality and the flaws of the legal system. A great series and a relatable protagonist.

Detective Jo Fournier is back in another smart, tense thriller! I stumbled upon this series with book 3 and have been keeping up ever since. Jo and her partner Detective Arnett are hunting a killer who is after moms who have been accused of child abuse. While investigating that, Jo is also looking into a cold case and juggling personal matters with her family and her boyfriend Matt. What I have come to love about this author is how smart and intricate her stories and characters are. She will have your mind dizzy with suspects and wondering who did what. And don’t worry if you’ve never read any of the previous books, still a fun ride to join but I encourage you to start from the beginning because none of her books are to be missed!

I haven’t read any of this series before but I didn’t feel like I was missing any vital information and I will probably go back and read the rest at some point. In this book, there are two different cases/killers running simultaneously and both of them are the result of vigilantism. We get to see the cases unfold from Jo and both killers POV’s. It’s a nice easy read that isn’t particularly fast paced but still kept me guessing. It wasn’t a book I was desperate to pick up but once I was reading I did enjoy it.

Detective Jo Fournier's latest case is the murder of a woman accused of child abuse. Melissa Rollins died locked in a closet, the same way she allegedly treated her daughter. It quickly becomes clear that there are other women accused of abuse that have been targeted: a serial killer avenging abuse victims...
Her Silent Prayer is the fifth book to feature Jo Fournier. I have somehow missed book 4 but read and reviewed books 1-3 (The Dancing Girls, Taken to the Grave and Her Daughter's Grave). There is a continuation of plotlines from previous books so I would advise reading the series in order.
I don't want to give too much away but Jo is facing more than one killer in this book. First she has the killer of alleged abusers and then there are links to characters we have met in earlier books. There is a personal element and Jo and her family are in danger. However, this makes her even more determined to find the killer.
The majority of the book is writen to show Jo's perspective but there are some chapters that give us glimpses into the killers' minds and their victims. This increases the tension and anticipation are we wait for the next plot development. The deaths are handled objectively through forensic description although Jo's emotional response makes them more vivid and therefore grisly.
Her Silent Prayer is an enjoyable detective thriller.

Oh my..... What an unexpected twist.... I loved Her Silent Prayer. I felt that Jo was a strait forward, no nonsense woman who everyone admired - I thought she was so believable and realistic. I read this in two stories, I was engrossed from the beginning to the end.

Detective Jo Fournier really has her hands full with her current case. A mother is killed under brutal circumstances and one of the clues that Jo discovers is that by the way the house was found locked that the victim might have known the killer. Furthermore, the deeper investigation goes, Jo is able to make a connection to a previous cold case with a murder of another mother. Meanwhile, Joe is dealing with a personal situation involving her sister Sophie and their strained relationship.

In fact, as things start to evolve, it appears that the very killer that they are looking for may have a revenge plot against her family and Jo is trying to tie everything together before another victim is found or anyone in her family is hurt. While all of this is going on, readers are given privy to the killer‘s perspective. In fact, the killer’s identity is made clear early on. Will Jo and her team be able to assess all of the clues in front of them to find this killer swiftly?

One thing this book reminded me of was the television series Dexter. That criminal mastermind had a reason behind his killings and that similarity is something that slowly becomes evident in this exciting book. In fact, what we have is an ingenious murderer who will stop at nothing while trying to meet their objectives.

Her Silent Prayer is an excellent installment in a thrilling series. Jo is a fabulous detective and a relatable protagonist. I have loved the previous four books in this series and I am very much looking forward to continuing with the next book.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Her Silent Prayer by MM Chouinard is a thriller/police procedural. Jo has been a police officer for 20 years and has never had a supervisor who hated her but this one does. She can see it in her eyes. She also tried to micro-manager, something that doesn't work for Jo. Things move to fast sometimes to be reporting every little thing. Right now it is a murder: a gruesome one at that. A woman was locked in a closet after having been given a diuretic and tied hand and foot. There is no way out of the closet and no one would have a reason to miss her for days. When she was found, the police were all aghast. It turns out she had been accused of child abuse: locking her daughter in the closet. At the weekly meeting, another couple of detectives had a cold case they thought might be related. Turned out they were right. Jo was also working on a case thought to be a suicide, but she found commonalities with some others and was now working on finding the murderer. The child abuse killer had short chapters in between killings outlining reasons but never disclosing his/her name. The suicide killer was frightening because she was now stalking Jo's family in order to find a way to blackmail her into stopping her search. It was a very frightening book.

Both of these killers thought they were doing good work eliminating people who did bad things: child abusers and men who treated women poorly. Only at the end did Jo realize why they were doing these things. One even prayed as stalking her victims: God's work. There were all kinds of red herrings and misdirection in solving these crimes that made it so much harder than it might have been. It was eerie to be in the heads of the killers especially when one got so close to Jo. A terrific book.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Her Silent Prayer by Bookoutre, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #bookoutre #mmchouinard #hersilentprayer

This is part of a series, i havent read the previous ones so some references would make sense from reading earlier books.

The series follow Detective Jossette Fournier and partner Detective Bob Arnett. In this book there are two threads. It starts with the murder of a mother found trapped inside a cupboard.

At the same time Jo is investigating what seems to be a serial killer who covers their tracks such that it is unclear if murders have been committed.

As Jo discovers the murdered mother is linked to another murder the race to find the truth is evident before they strike again. Then she unravels more about the other murders.

The two are unconnected but the authors weaves the two creating a brilliant fast paced crime novel. Really recommend
