Another great case in the series and a unique plot. I adore this series and lap up every single case.

Another fabulous book in this series. I accidentally read book 15 before this one, but it really made no difference as they can be standalone.
When an elderly churchgoer and member of the quilting circle is found murdered, Jenna and Dave are tasked with finding out who could have committed such a hideous crime.
The team are back together when they call in Jo and Ty to help too.
Each one of these books is so different and I love the background story of each of the characters’ lives.

This is a fast paced read . I loved the ending. It had great characters very realistic. I even laughed in this book. This is number 14 in the series but can easily be read as a standalone . The chapters arent very long either.

I love this series. There are so many great characters. I do struggle with the fact that even though Jenna is supposedly badass in her own right she's depicted as weak and constantly needing Dave to take charge. That being said it was still an enjoyable read. I did actually guess the bad guy which doesn't happen very often with this series, but I was hooked.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Another outstanding story that has you locked in at the very few first pages and does not let up until the end. Though you know there will be another serial killer on the loose each one is different. Here why is one of Jenna’s deputies in the home of the murder, why can’t he remember? Is he the person who committed these horrible crimes? Maybe, maybe not as it is explained and just talked about. Looking for a contractor they cannot find each clue you think led you closer but still at times as the reader you are wondering where everything is going.
Then there are stories inside the story, a new female deputy thinks Dave has a thing for her which causes him and Jenna a little debut. There are still others from the books and they all make for the story to flow and work until you get to the end. Which then sets you up for the next book. A very good book.

I can’t believe that this is the fourteenth book in this brilliant series featuring detective Jenna Alton and Dave Kane and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Jenna, Dave and the team are called out to investigate the brutal murder of an elderly female local resident. When another elderly lady is found dead in a car, Jenna thinks that there must be a link between them and realises that the women were members of a local quilting group. When Rio, a member of their team, is found unconscious and covered in blood at the scene of a third murder is becomes clear that the killer is taunting them. They enlist the help of their FBI friends Jo and Carter to help them solve the case. This is another compelling read with all the usual characters and new ones as well and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

As always another thrilling chapter in the lives of Kane and Alton that delivers up a cracking good read. From the first few pages you are back in the small town of Black Rock Falls and immersed once again in the lives of the main characters as they come together to solve the latest round of murders to hit the town. There is a feeling of intimacy that you get the more of the series you read. You are drawn into the make believe world the author created with the sense of coming home as you catch up with Kane and Alton and the folks they call friends. They come across as friends whose company you enjoy for the hours you spend with the books. The book is filled with misdirection and twists that keep you engrossed to the final reveal of the killer. Thrills, murder, mystery and a pinch of romance and you have the perfect blend for a best selling book and even better is that its a series that just seems to get better with time. One day maybe Kane and Alton will hit the screen and we can enjoy a visual spectacle as well as one we create in our minds to accompany the words in the books. I look forward to my next encounter with Kane and Alton and the folks of Black Rock Falls.

Book 14 in the Kane and Alton series which of course brings another twisted killer to town. With the only clue to the victim being scrawled on Jenna's door there's not much to go on, But after they find Zac Rio at one of the brutal crime scenes unconscious with no memory at what can be described as a blood bath, Jenna and her team have the hard job of proving his innocence by catching the real killer.

My love for DK Hood and this entire series is off the chart I honestly read one book and think the next can't get better and it does every single book. It's great reading the continued relationship between Jenna and Kane I waited so long for them to get together officially and it's just so cute actually reading their love story. Even if it involves serial killer and near death experiences.

I found this instalment to have quite brutal murder scenes but let's be honest you can only get darker and I'm all for it! So when Deputy Zac Rio get's caught up in the investigation, it is interesting to see what the other deputies think about his charge. They don't know him well enough to be one hundred percent about his innocence's. Problem is if he is innocent then that means the killers still on the loose. Zac is having problems with his brother who has a new girlfriend and has gone completely off the rails. If Zac isn't guilty maybe his brother has something to do with it?
I honestly was completely hooked with this instalment the victims are very sympathetic ones and I felt completely invested with catching the killer. I must say my first suspicion was right but I had 100 more after so was a rollercoaster.

Like I said I am hooked to this book, i love the FBI links they have and I'm still hoping that they get a spin off series also, they are the FBI version of Kane and Alton. I also love 'the happy dance' if you know you know if you don't pick up book 1 and enjoy everything that follows. I am honestly lost for what DK Hood can write next as lets be honest for such a small town there have been a lot of serial killers even those who have come to play against the Sheriff and her team. So I cannot wait to find out what they next have install, I'm so excited!

Therefore I recommend this book and the entire series if you haven't started it yet. It's great for all the crime thriller lovers out there if you are a fan of Lisa Regan. Stacy Green, Wendy Drainfield or any other amazing crime thriller writer then you will love this book. Be prepared for some hilarious moments along with some dark ones. Kane and Alton's relationship is just amazing and believe me it will only get better. We also get to see how Deputy Jake is getting on with the new twins and let's not forget we spend a lot of time worrying about Deputy Zac is he or is he not a killer? only way you will find out is by picking up a copy of this amazing book. There's a reason DK Hood is my favourite American crime thriller writer an easy 5 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley, DK Hood and bookouture for the digital ARC of Pray for Mercy in exchange for my fair and honest opinions. Cannot wait for book 15

Elderly victims murdered in horrific ways. There are few clues but a deputy is implicated at the scene of the third murder. Can Sheriff Jenna Alton and Dave Kane prove their colleague's innocence and protect the rest of the elderly community?
Pray For Mercy is the 14th book to feature Kane and Alton. There is enough information about their background to catch up on their personal lives without any spoilers of events or cases in previous books. However, this is a great series, so read them all!
The elderly women from the quilting club are being killed in different ways and there appears to be no motive. But it is the third murder where the plot takes a major twist as Deputy Zac Rio is found at the scene, covered in blood and with the weapon near his hand. The killer (and the author) cleverly misdirects us all but the truth can be found using forensic detail.
There was only one chapter from the perspective of the killer so I didn't feel such a emotional revulsion or understanding of their motive as I have in previous books. The victims' last moments are written to show their terror and make us want Kane and Alton to prevent more killings. Zac is going through difficulties at home so our sympathies are with him even before he is framed for murder.
On a personal level, things are intense between Jenna and Dave especially when jealousy rears its head and Kane is repeatedly put in danger. The simmering relationship between the pair, alongside the need to overcome the trauma of the past, makes the reader desperate for a happy outcome.
Pray For Mercy is a fab addition to the series and I can't wait for the next book especially as there is a loose end...

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane are back in the game with a even more mysterious case to solve. And not just one crime, but a bigger picture will be discovered step by step while they are trying to solve it.
I can only say that I was very shocked to find out who the villain was because the whole story has taken me to so many places and tried my theories to extreme and I was still wrong all the way through! And believe it or not, 99% of the cases I am right! So this story hit the jackpot and made me feel al the pulse racing and spikes of adrenaline while reading it.
Nothing quite new there as I loved the previous books in the series but this one might be my favourite so far.

This is the first book of the series that I have read and all I can say is Wow. Heart pounding edge of your seat murder mystery. Wonderful characters, great story. I loved it. Looking forward to more.

To publish the fourteenth book in any series is quite an achievement, so I already knew this would be a great read, and while it functions perfectly well as a standalone story, I felt I had missed out on a lot of context and information on the characters, locations, relationships, and events in the Kane and Alton story arc, by not having read the first thirteen books. That said, this was so good that I am now actively seeking out all the others.

I found myself rather liking virtually everyone (with a few notable exceptions), and was rooting for Jenna and Dave all the way through. The supporting characters played their parts well, and only served to enhance my pleasure in reading this book. I enjoyed having absolutely no clue about the identity of the murderer for the majority of the book, and then getting it wrong when I thought I had put the pieces together.

Overall, I found this to be a well executed, fast paced story which held my attention throughout. I highly recommend this book, but would caveat that with the recommendation to read it as part of the Kane and Alton series for better context and backstory. I gave Pray For Mercy, by D. K. Hood, five stars, and look forward to reading more about Jenna and Dave in the near future.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Pray For Mercy' by DK Hood.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for DK Hood, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 7th March 2022.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the fourteenth book in the 'Detective Kane and Alton' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Cross My Heart' (book twelve in the series) and 'Fallen Angel' (book thirteen in the series) which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'If you’re a fan of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, you will love this gripping read.' I am a huge fan of all three of those authors so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of DK Hood and if this is half as good as 'Cross My Heart' and 'Fallen Angel' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 50 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in Montana, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Sheriff Jenna Alton and Detective David Kane. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

OMG!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED THIS BOOK!!! D.K HOOD you just keep getting better and better!!!

This book is fantastically written and had me hooked from the first page until the last. DK Hood way of writing is perfectly evocative and she has such a creative imagination!! The descriptions were so vivid and realistic I felt myself feeling the cold and reaching for a blanket to warm me up. This has got to be one of the best storyline I have ever read!!!! OMG the suspense, especially during a certain event left me with my heart in my throat!! Needless to say I absolutely LOVED the storyline. This book is absolutely perfect for any crime lovers as you are literally reading about crime, secrets and murder!!! It just does not get better than that!!! Just seriously, I cannot say how brilliant all this book was!!! The storyline is packed with tension, suspense, murder, tension and filled with twists and turns. I was absolutely shocked when everything was revealed and was not expecting it at all!!! A HUGE congratulations to D.K Hood, it is getting harder and harder to shock me but you did it well!!! . D.K Hood has obviously done her research on police procedurals which is yet another bonus as I've read many crime novels where the authors make massive mistakes due to not doing enough research. This is an absolutely unputdownable page turner and I cannot wait to read the previous and future books in what is promising to be an addictive series. I did have one small issue which would normally mean I only gave a book 4/5 instead of 5/5 and that was what happened with Poppy? There was something that happened but then she was barely mentioned again which is driving me crazy wanting to know. Whether this is done on purpose and all will be revealed in the next book I'm unsure. I cannot wait to read it either way and do hope we get some answers.

Although this is the fourteenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I absolutely LOVED meeting the characters again and they are all realistic and I became completely invested in them. I love that Jenna is such a strong female lead that has history and has been through so much but doesn't cower and stands strong. I enjoyed watching her relationship with Kane and I am looking forward to going back to how they met and moving forward to see where it goes especially after how the book ended (LOVE LOVE LOVE by the way!!!) Kane is another fantastic character that I became invested in and I adore how protective of Jenna he is. The team dynamics worked well and I also enjoyed getting to know more about Rio, Wolfe and Rowley and I look forward to meeting them all again. I must say my favourite had to be Duke though!!!! What an absolutely fantastic addition, I just love it when pets play such large parts in books.

Congratulations D.K Hood on what promises to be a huge success!!! Very rarely an authors books get better but you have certainly mastered it!!! I cannot wait to get stuck into more of your books and I would like to welcome you to my favourite crime author list!!!

This book is definitely in my top 10 and considering I've read 1000's this is a HUGE achievement!!! This series is also in my top 5 ♥

Do not start this until you have cleared yours schedules as you will not be able to put it down!!

Overall an absolutely addictive, heart racing and unputdownable crime thriller that will keep you up all night.

Genres covered in this novel include Police Procedural, Suspense, Mystery, Thriller, Noir Fiction and Crime Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh, Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, Kendra Elliot and anyone looking for a gripping page turner .

346 pages.

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.
