👵Quilting group: circle your wagons, ladies!

Another stunner, packed full of action, with leads Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane up against a ruthless serial killer. I love the suspense and action in this series, and the way the rugged, remote Montana landscape plays a key role. Here, remote houses, white-haired seniors, an out-of-control teenager and a long-hidden story of abuse come together for a great crime thriller.

This series never disappoints. The crimes are usually raw and violent, something that Alton and Kane's past lives have prepared them for. The secondary characters are all relevant, the writing zeroing in on the essentials, apart from the frequent appearance of Aunt Betty's pies. And Kane's constant companion and man's best friend Duke even gets a heroic moment or two. He's not just there for window dressing!

Strongly recommended.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Holy Moley! This was another great addition to the Kane and Alton series. We're back in Black Rock Falls, where church goer Agnes Wagner is found dead in her home. Someone is killing sweet older ladies, and it's up to Dave and Jenna to find the killer. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat, and I can't wait for more Kane and Alton!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Black Rock Falls has to be the most serial killery town in the US. I wonder why anyone wants to live in this seemingly innocent and quiet place... because it most certainly is something else. The town also has some of the toughest members of the police force on the planet. Great combination, I think, and this is why the series, and this book works for me.

Another interesting thing with this book, the series all in all, and the characters are that at the same time as horrible things happen, it feels like time is standing still, and life continues the same way it did. There are always small changes here and there, but if always feels good coming back to this murderous town.

An elderly woman living on the outskirt of Black Rock Falls is murdered in her own home. The killer appears forensically aware and Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane can't find anything in her background to make her a target. With further murders, one of her deputies distracted by family issues and a new deputy who seems to have designs on Deputy Kane, Jenna has her work cut out trying to find a motive for the murders.

Another great instalment in this series by D K Hood - I've read everyone and I'm never disappointed.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Oh wow, Black Rock Falls is not known as the "murder capital" for nothing! lol. I can't believe this is book 14 in the series though. Have read them all, and very glad that I have :)

Little old ladies are being killed all over town and Jenna and Dave are trying to figure out why, and more importantly, trying to stop any more of them being killed. Is one of their own involved?

This was a twisty and turny tale and I swear that my heart stopped a couple of times.

I love the relationship that these two have with each other and their friends in the community as well. The secondary characters are also very important in the book and I love that too.

4 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

Sheriff Jenna Alton & Deputy Dave Kane are trying to keep their relationship quiet as there are some many people that just want gossip about everything. They both have their secrets as they both had to start anew in Black Rock Falls. A murder of an elderly woman Agnes Wagner has just happened and it isn't what it seems but who would want to kill her? The clues that have been left behind don't amount too much. So when another elderly woman is killed they know that someone is targeting them but why? What did they do that makes someone want to kill these harmless old women?
When one of their own is found at a murder scene they know that they are on trouble. Rio doesn't remember much and he knows that he didn't kill Flora and he hopes that his team can find out the truth.
Jenna & Kane know that things look bad for Rio and they know that they have to find answers quickly before more victims appear.
But who would want to frame Rio? Could it have something to do with his brother's lady friends?
The team needs to follow the clues to find the killer but will they be too late?
A great read. Gripping & thrilling. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This is a tightly written procedural. Someone is killing older women, members of. quilting circle. Smart local police work with equally determined FBI SAs to find out why and the identity of the fiend. I'd only read one of the books in this series- making this a standalone for me and it was fine but I suspect fans will get more from the characters than I did. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Pray For Mercy’, book 14 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series and written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

When the body of elderly Agnes Wagner is found dead in her isolated home, her death is just the first of a number of ladies who all attend the quilting circle. Detectives Jenna Alton and Dave Kane have a number of possible suspects but don’t have a reason why elderly ladies should be chosen as victims. When the killer fabricates evidence pointing towards one of Jenna’s deputies, they know they need to identify the killer quickly before there are any more victims.

‘Pray For Mercy’ is another exciting instalment in the lives of law enforcement in Black Rock Falls as Jenna and Kane call in the help of their friends Jo and Carter from the FBI. This book is well-written and as exciting as I’ve come to expect, totally gripping with tension, drama and twists and turns on every page, that gets me so involved I’m hoping that the members of the sheriff’s department will come away from this dangerous case unharmed. One point I’d make is the jump in the story at chapter 24 when we have Jo and Kane at their ranch having dinner with Jo and Carter, then on the next page at chapter 25 we’re at the house of another victim with no explanation of how or why they happened to be there. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic thriller with an ending that’s everything I’d hoped for, and with a cliffhanger of a missing detective it’s definitely worthy of five stars. I’m really looking forward to book 15.

Detectives Kane and Alton #14

Her heart races as a noise from downstairs wakes her. She takes the stairs slowly, noticing the cellar door is wide open. Closing it, she returns to the safety of her bedroom. Seeing a movement in the corner of the room, she screams. She's not alone. But nobody can help her now.... With no witnesses and no trace of the killer at the scene, the deadly message written on Jenna's door is her only clue.

Once again we are in Black Rock Falls with Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team. This time a serial killers victims of choice is elderly ladies. There's no clues, evidence or motive that's obvious. This is a very well written book that's gripping and it has got a few red herrings. We also have a new deputy sheriff in town. The pace is fast from the beginning. Some parts were a bit creepy, others I was holding my breath. I think reading Jenna and Dave's backstories has made me care for them more. There's a loose end that needs to be tied up, hopefully in the next book. The epilogue was just perfect.

Book 14 in the series and it's as fresh as the first one.

Who would target and brutally kill sweet old ladies? That's the dilemma facing Sheriff Altona and her team in this new installment from Black Rock Falls.

Full of tension and high drama with lots of twists to keep the pages turning. I was totally hooked

Jo and Carter should move their base as they spend more time helping Jenna than at home!

A great addition to this fantastic series. I can't wait to read the next one.

This is a well established series and I've been enjoying the ride since the early days and have yet to be disappointed by the goings on in Black Rock Falls and book 14 proves to be another superb edition to the series from the talented D. K Hood.

The character are like old friends now and in this instalment a serial killer is on the lose targeting old ladies and Jenna and the team are tasked with bringing the suspect to justice and we go along for the ride and what a ride it is.

Full of suspense, suspicion and survival another fast paced chilling crime thriller, can't wait for book 15!

A new twist on a murder mystery I never saw coming. No matter how many murder mystery novels you've read this has a plot I doubt you've read before. Kane and Akron with their colleagues solve another fabulous puzzle
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc

Really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and kept my interest right from the get go. Couldn’t put it down I read it in one sitting, it just grabbed me and I had to keep reading until I had finished it. A very good storyline and plot twists to keep you guessing. I did however guess the bad guy correctly fairly early on which is unusual for this series. Highly deserving of four stars, a great read!

I have read all of the Detective Kane and Alton series and the 2 prequels. DK Hood is my favourite author, and her writing makes it so easy to read that it is hard to put down any of her books. The ending of this one was so exciting and leaves me wanting to read the next one now. An absolute must read.

14 books in and this series is still going strong. Fast paced and suspenseful, this was a thrilling read.  I really like these characters and how they have lives outside of work. I find it makes them more relatable and adds to the story.
There was one loose thread left that I'm sure is going to cause some major problems, hopefully to be revealed in the next book.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Pray for Mercy, the fourteenth novel to feature Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane of Black Rock Falls, Montana Sheriff’s Office.

Someone is murdering elderly ladies and playing games with the Sheriff’s Office. There are no physical clues so it’s circumstantial evidence that lets them develop several suspects.

I thoroughly enjoyed Pray for Mercy, which offers a fast paced read that culminates in the standard action scenes. The novel is told from various points of view, including the unnamed killer, and so gives the reader a wide perspective on events. The only criticism I have of this engrossing read is that the prologue provides the motive and gives enough hints about the perpetrator’s identity to make guessing easy. This takes away the mystery element but, fortunately, it doesn’t detract from the read.

I like the plot premise, an investigation into the killing elderly ladies with no apparent motive (to the team as the reader knows) and a subplot of thoughtless teenagers, and it is executed well. There is tension, thrills, action and twists in a fast moving narrative, so just what a reader wants. Ok, so it’s probably not the most realistic novel I will read this year, but who cares when it’s so entertaining?

The characterisation is the same as ever with the usual team of close friends and colleagues. There is a new addition to the department, but it doesn’t go well and may provide food for a future novel. Oh, and Jenna and Dave move their relationship along another notch.

Pray for Mercy is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Heart pounding!! Guaranteed thrill ride! I never saw the twist coming…kept me questing right up until the big reveal. The climax itself was high-adrenaline and had me frantically trying to get to the end just to make sure all of our beloved Black Rock Falls characters made it to the end!! Tears were shed for sure at the ending but they were happy ones…and the epilogue is adorable…a tour de force from DK Hood!

For the vastness of Montana, Jenna Alton and David Kane sure find their share of murders and puzzling cases to solve. After taking a day off, Alton and Kane rush back to town to help with the murder of an elderly woman... part of a quilting circle that Rio's sweet housekeeper is a part of (and Rio has his own issues going on with his brother). One murder turns into two as Kane and Alton work with their team and close friends to help find whoever is trying to take out members of this tight woman's group... and why. This series just keeps getting better and better - I look forward to each and every book! Thank you to Bookouture for this advanced copy for my personal review.
