Oh oh oh!!!!! This book doesn't disappoint especially the ending!!!! Omg. If you have been following Jenna and her team around for 14 books now you will be sooooo happy with this one.

I read this in a cold wintry English afternoon and it was the best tonic. This is pure escapism and it was like wrapping myself up in an warm blanket going back to Kane and Alton. This time it was someone killing off the elderly - the way the story worked through and ended was brilliant and I can't wait for the next one, but wouldn't like to live there (how many serial killers can there be).

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

We're back in Black Rock Falls for book #14 of the Kane and Alton series. There's no surprise to hear there's a serial killer on the loose again, but this time they are targeting the elderly women living around the town. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are investigating but with little to go on they enlist the help of FBI agents Ty Carter and Jo Slater. When it looks like one of Jenna's team may be involved they have their work cut out trying to figure it all out

I love this series and even though we are 14 books in, it still packs the same punch as the books before it. The storyline is a shocking one and it keeps you wondering why all these little old ladies are being targeted. As with previous books, it's a little gruesome and it may make your stomach churn at times, but hey, you can't have a serial killer without a bit of blood! The storyline twists and turns throughout and we are treated to some heart stopping moments on more than one occasion! There are also a couple of other storylines running alongside the main one, which may or may not be connected - you'll have to keep reading to find out!

All of the usual characters are welcomed back, with the introduction of some new ones also. I love Dave and Jenna's relationship, but this is pushed to its limits at times during their story. Ty Carter is also coming up fast behind Dave Kane as the most hottest law enforcement officer around and I really hope he comes back to visit in the next book!! My only slight criticism (and it's only really slight!) is that one of the storylines was left a bit up in the air...I'm assuming, and hoping, all will be revealed in the next book, and cannot wait to find out what's happened!

This was, yet again, another fantastic read. It grabbed my attention from the first page and didn't let up until the last!! Filled with lots of red herrings, dead ends, "No's" and "OMG's", this book will keep you on the edge of your seat!! Would definitely recommend!!

It's been quiet of late in Black Rock Falls, so quiet in fact that Sheriff Jenna Alton and First Deputy David Kane have taken a day off to go shopping in Helena! Quiet is never good in murder central however and when their lunch is disturbed by a call from Deputy Jake Rowley with details of a suspicious death it isn’t really a surprise to either of them!

Agnes Wagner was a threat to no one, elderly and well liked but even with a tight circle of friends someone was able to carry out a vicious and violent attack resulting in her death. With the killer intent on spreading fear and terrifying the other elderly residents of Black Rock Falls Jenna knows she needs to concentrate her efforts, and those of her team, on the beginning of a complex investigation before they lose control of the situation.

With personal problems plaguing one of the tight knit group she leads also in the forefront of her mind Jenna is devastated to find a colleague at a subsequent crime scene covered in blood. Time becomes of the essence and with the killer seemingly calling the shots Jenna and Dave are forced to undertake a mode of confrontation which could easily kill them both.

Amazingly this is the fourteenth story in the Kane and Alton Mystery Series, along with two novellas, and, after a blip in book thirteen, the author is back on top form once again. The victims are sympathetically written and once again the storyline benefits from the inclusion of FBI agents Jo Wells and Ty Carter who are always an asset whenever they appear. Add to this the problems one of her deputies is experiencing at home which definitely has him off his game and the scene is set for the multi-layered mystery Ms Hood excels at.

The two recent novellas have meant more personal information is available on both Jenna and Dave which is neatly included throughout and there are the intriguing beginnings of what could be the main investigation in their fifteenth outing! This is an excellent page turner which I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I have no hesitation in recommending this book and the series unreservedly.

If I could award this book more than five stars I would. I literally have no nails left, I devoured this book in one sitting and finally turned the last page at 2.am. Yes this book is that good!!!!. Full of action and packed to the rafters with tension and suspense. With a storyline that had me constantly holding my breath and tapping my kindle like a demented wood pecker. Another fantastic addition to this very gripping and very addictive series and definitely one of my favourites.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

Black Rock Falls is serial killer central. Just ask Black Rock Falls Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane. They have faced down several serial killers in the area and lived to tell about it.In D.K. Hood fourteenth book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series, Pray for Mercy, they are faced with another cruel serial killer. This is a fast-paced, super suspenseful, chilling thriller. I've come to really like and admire the main characters in this series as I have read all the previous books in the series. This is a super addition.

How did we get to book 14 in this ever improving series? Kane and Alton are investigating the suspicious deaths of elderly women as the body count keeps on rising. When suspicion falls on deputy Rio, they call in their FBI friends. As always, the plot is interesting, with plenty twists, the characters are well developed and it's a quick and easy read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Back to serial killer central with Dave and Jenna - I always look forward to reading these books, they never disappoint. I read this in an afternoon when I wasn't feeling the best and it was the perfect tonic.

Kane and Alton - and don't forget Duke - have become like a family to me now. This was another thrill ride from start to finish and again had me wondering why anybody would like in Black Rock Falls! This time somebody is killing little old ladies - harmless and well liked in the community. But why? And is it one of their own?

Pray for Mercy is book 14 in a series that just keeps going from strength to strength. I look forward to many more adventures with this pair. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read.

Yet another brilliant book in the Kane & Alton series. I look forward to reading this series so much as every book is as superb as the previous one. Gripped from the very first page I cant read the book quick enough but I am also sad that's it's finished until the next instalment. Please don't keep us waiting too long!! I highly recommend this book, author and series.

Every time I read one of these books I get sucked into the story, there just something about them that I love , wither it's the creepiness , the way you see through the eyes of the unknown killer or killers and as your reading you literally hear their voice in your head. The characters Kane and Alton ( 2 of my all time favorite ones , plus Duke), how close they are with their team and are like a family. The town itself ,reminds me why it would be a nice place to visit but not to live in.And the sinister aspect that the someone is watching from the shadows but as to why that's a question that hopefully will be answered in the next book. And let's not forget that once again D.K.Hood made me want to cry both happy and sad tears.

One of the posts I love to read the most on Social Media is the announcing of a new book by this author. It pleases me immensely and I know I will be in for a treat. Her Alton and Kane series simply is to die for. If I could I would read one of her books every day.

Why are they so great? The story is always amazing. I called her more than once my queen of suspense because of the creepy bits in the books that make me look behind me too. I love every person on her team and of course the  two FBI agents have found a spot in my heart also. An author who adds not one but two dogs as main characters ticks an important box for me as well. Me, as a total dog addict can only applaud this and it warms my heart. I can feel the love their bosses have for them and vice versa and I can relate to that.

This time too Jenna, David and Shane can use the expertise of Jo, Carter and Bobby to deal with this frenzied and very clever killer. And I could have eaten Duke. He is so adorable and devoted.

Only praise from me for this author and her excellent books. 5 stars for the umpteenth time and well deserved too. 😊

Thank you

This Author’s talent and imagination blow me away. Book 14 is just as thrilling and terrifying as any of the others. This time the killer(s) are bumping off little old ladies. My heart was in my throat a few times while reading this book. I feel like I know the characters and except for the bad guys love them all. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book. I’m ready for the next one.

Wow! What an exciting and engaging work of fiction.

Someone is murdering little old ladies in the worst possible manner. These women are harmless and liked in the little community of Black Rock Falls, Montana.

Enter Sheriff Jenna Alto, her main deputy, David Kane, pathologist Shane Wolfe and all the other deputies. And they get assistance from the FBI agents Ty Carter and Jo Slater.

The story gets even more harrier when one of their own comes under suspicion.

Ms. Hood keeps getting better and better. This might be her best novel yet. I am so glad I happened upon her writing. It is clear and easy to read and follow. While parts may be a little gruesome, this book is well worth finishing. The only thing I have a question about is that it left a little hanging. Perhaps in the next book, we will find out what happens to the Poppy character.

I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this remarkable book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.

I had difficulty getting invested in Pray for Mercy (Detectives Kane and Alton Book 14). I did not like the main character, and the storyline did not capture my attention or keep me interested. Maybe I should have read the first 13 books.

I see that a lot of other readers gave this book 5 stars. I guess this book just wasn't for me.

Such a great read. Kane and Alton have quickly become 2 of my faves!
In true Black Rock Falls fashion another serial killer is on the loose, this time the target is elderly women. This books sucks you in from page 1 and the action does not stop until the last page.

Another fast paced and in some places nail biting. Jenna and her team are solving the next lot of murders while trying to deal with a new deputy and concern over another deputy’s family issues. As one of the story lines was left hanging, I hope it’s continued in either the next book or one after. As usual the author has thrown in a few red herrings leading the reader in several directions. I think to date this has become my favourite of all the series.

D.K.Hood at her most terrifying, gruesome, enthralling best! It's the first time this brilliant thriller writer has reduced me to tears but I've been an incoherent, blubbering mess at various points of this latest outing for my favourite crime fighting duo. A serial killer is once again stalking Black Rock Falls and this time it is sweet elderly ladies who appear to be the targets of this barbaric ,cruel tormentors. Things take an even more sinister and distressing turn when a well loved character becomes embroiled in the sinister killings . .victim...or murderer? The usual plethora of suspects, red herrings galore and an explosive climax which had me screaming " nooooo!!" much to.my poor husbands bemusement! This was quickly followed by "Yes!!!!!" At which point he left the room, shaking his head in bewilderment. I've never been so invested or engaged in a book ,on so many levels . D.K.Hood is simply genius and this book 14 in the series has all our well known and well loved cast of characters , a fantastic storyline and suspense and drama enough to leave one needing to lie down in a darkened room for a while . 5 glorious* from me.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and DK Hood for the opportunity to read and review "Pray For Mercy", the 14th book in the Kane and Alton series.
I cannot believe we're at book #14 already! What a ride it's been. And what a ride this instalment was. Black Rock Falls is a mecca for psychopaths, serial killers, kidnappers and everyday, run-of-the-mill crazies.... but it's also the home of Sheriff Jenna Alton, Deputy Dave Kane, ME Shane Wolfe (and his daughters), and deputies Zac Rio and Jake Rowley (and let's not forget Maggie and Deputy Walters). So the crazies had better watch out - you can run, but you cannot hide for long.
In Pray For Mercy, someone (someones?) is offing little old ladies, grandmothers, quilting circle members - and in the most gruesome of ways. As the bodies start accumulating, Jenna and Dave know that Black Rock Falls has, once again, entered 'the serial killer zone', and they'd better get to the bottom of it all.
At the same time, the relationship of Jenna and Dave seems to be getting closer and closer, even though Jenna is worried about furtive and interrupted phone calls.
But when it appears that Deputy Rio is their perpetrator - something neither Jenna, Dave nor Shane can believe - they decide to bring in the 'big guns' - Jo Slater and Ty Carter, FBI agents and friends who work nearby, to disprove his guilt, and figure out just what is going on in Black Rock Falls, and who and why these murders are occurring.. And, as usual, it's not pretty.
DK Hood had me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, with tears in my eyes at the climax of this one!
Now the question is, what happened to Poppy?

Wow ladies and gentlemen! This is definitely one that shouldn't be missed! It’s an over-the-top adrenaline rush of a book. You know…the kind of book where it ramps up into one impossible situation on top of another and another and another…until you realize you haven’t actually been breathing for a page or two. Definitely didn’t guess the ending either! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can't tell you how excited I was to get my hands on an early copy of this story and it genuinely didn't disappoint.

As Pray for Mercy is a rip-roaring, heart-stopping, gut-wrenchingly good crime thriller. That sees Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane investigate the horrific murder of an old lady who seemed never to have harmed anyone. But with another death close on her heels that results in a nerve shredding recovery for Deputy Kane and serious questions for a member of the team this quickly became a story I couldn't put down, and page by page it just got more intriguing and exhilarating.

And I had no bloody clue who the killer was! Until they were revealed. So, well played Ms Hood. You've done it again.

Would definitely recommend.
