I have read Ranald's prior books so I was expecting something different. This did not make this bad, but it was just not what I was expecting. And honestly, part of me was on Matt's side for some of this book. Not the whole thing, but I got really tired of Abbie about half way through. Just divorce if everything he is doing is making you crazy. Of course you have to keep reading to figure out what happened in the marriage that left them feeling so out of sync with each other. This is called a second chance romance, but am trying to think of the last one I read that had a married couple doing a second chance romance.

This follows a married couple (Abbie and Matt) who after 20 years together, have hit a very rough patch in their marriage. The book goes back and forth between when they first met, kissed, and the big and low moments of their lives together. In the end, the book asks how much do you really love someone, and what do you do when that love starts turning to dislike.

Abbie and her friends were great and very realistic. I did like how Abbie's friends kept encouraging her to talk things out and go down memory lane with Matt to rekindle things. You realize that they have more of the story than readers do, and when things get fully revealed, things make a lot more sense. I did feel for Abbie then.

I loved all of the scenes showing Abbie and Matt through the ages until the present day. You do get a sense of a true love story and two people who just like each other.

No relationship is perfect, but Abbie decides hers is in need to a revival. After a chat with her girlfriends, she makes a start on “Operation Memory Lane” where she plans to relive some of hers and Matts most romantic moments in a bid to bring the spark back to their dwindling romance.
This book was hilarious, I loved the banter between the characters-it felt very true to life and I really enjoyed reading it.

I enjoy dual timeline books, and this is a good example. It's a little reminiscent of After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid. so if you enjoyed that story you will probably feel the same about this one.

However, the character's behaviour didn't always warm me to them.

I really enjoyed this read more than I thought I would! This book follows a married couple called Matt and Abbie. They have hit a point in their marriage where they don’t know how to move forward. We see the progression of their relationship from when they first meet to present day.. I loved seeing all of their happy moments when they are clearly struggling in the present!

I felt like this book really showed a “COVID couple” and how covid really affected relationships being “stuck” together 24/7.

A heart-warming story about keeping the spark alive in a long-term relationship. We follow childhood sweethearts Abbie and Matt on a journey through their relationship, past and present, seeing the significant moments between the pair and where things began to go wrong. P.S I Hate You is equal parts funny and heart warming and is a great reminder at how important it is to maintain your relationship and how easy it is to slip into becoming roommates over lovers.

A really great read!

This is my favourite Sophie Ranald book I have read in a while. The structure and story arc are very different to her other books and I thought they worked an absolute treat. 'P.S. I Hate You', a fun spin on the contrasting romantic novel we all know and love, focuses on Abbie and Matt who have been together for 20 years from teenagers to living married life in their mid-30s. Abbie is worried that the love and spark is gone from their relationship - across the novel, we see her re-evaluate her position alongside flashbacks to significant moments across their 20 years together.

There are some light moments of happiness and comedy which are layered alongside heavier plot points, particularly surrounding drug addiction, money struggles and infertility. This is not just a case of a spark being lost in a relationship but there are some deep seated issues in Abbie and Matt's relationship which they need to work through. By positioning present against past memories, both joyous and traumatic, Ranald allows us to deeply get to know these characters and be fully invested in their success.

Overall, Ranald's departure into an interesting structural choice and grittier plot choices was a great read. As always, I am looking forward to reading the next instalment. I have my fingers crossed the Ginger Cat makes an appearance in the next one!

Thanks for the arc!

This book follows a couple as they try to refind themselves and why they fell in love. The story switch between present and past times.

It’s a easy and fun read.

PS I Hate You is a bit of a different book, reminds me a bit of After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid because it follows a married couple trying to get back on their feet. It was an easy read, but I wasn't too captivated in the characters and I didn't love the story so much. Especially since it reminded of the TJR book, I kept comparing them, and After I Do felt a lot better.

*Thanks a lot to #Netgalley and the publisher for the free book in exchange of an honest review.

This book has been a very nice reading.
We have a couple that, after 20 years together, is in crisis. Especially Abbie doesn't seem to know if she still loves Matt. This story leads the reader through an alternation of past events - related to "important" moments of Matt's and Abbie's relationship- and present, where Abbie starts to try to recreate those past dates to rediscover the spark between them. The writing style is enjoyable, there were very sweet moments and I fell in love for Matt since the very beginning.
Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing for Abbie. I haven't understood 100% why she has all that resentment for an husband that yes, as everyone is not perfect, but it's not indifferent to her or mean. Yes, the situation they lived obviously had a great impact on their relationship and that was clear, but Matt seemed always there for her. Even when she recognised that maybe her behavior towards him has not been right, I didn't feel she completely realised how much he was hurt too.
Plus, the secondary "plots point" could have been deepened more.
So, it was good but I'm afraid I expected more.

I'm not able to give this book as full a review as I normally do, simply because after reading it I got sick and was unable to write, and then couldn't remember half the points I was going to make.

I don't think this works in its favour-it was rather forgettable. I was expecting more rom-com than it was. The title especially let me down, considering at no point in the book did I feel the main character actually hated her husband.

It wasn't bad-It was a fun, easy read. Just not what I expected from the marketing, but not something I would or wouldn't reccomend either way.

Not your normal romcom. This story follows a married couple as they try to refind themselves and why they fell in love.
This story was well written and ‘not just another romance’ but I just couldn’t fall in love with the main characters, making it hard for me to really love this story.
It’s an easy and fun read, although I don’t find the title all together accurate as I never feel anyone ‘hates’ the other.
Definitely worth a read and would read more from this author.

This book is the perfect mix of first love, friendship, acceptance and appreciating what you have in life.

I really loved the authors writing style, it was super easy to get into and I found once I got to know the characters I was pretty hooked!

Abbie and Matt were both great MC and both were super likeable! I think it would of been fun to have had some chapters from Matt’s POV, I think it would of given us a better insight into their relationship!

I loved the big friendship group in the book, it gave Abbie a great support network and they were all great supporting characters!

The only thing I found a little hard was the flash backs, at times it was hard to and I had to think about what was going on rather than just enjoying the book.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be looking at other books by this author!

This was an interesting story. We had a couple who had been married for quite a while! I was concerned about how the flow of the story was continue.

I wasn't ready to see a marriage fall to pieces. I was pleasantly surprised with the weaving of the details and the outcome of the issues in the book.

P.S. I hate you wasn’t quite what I expected it to be but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It was no thrilling story with surprising plot twists - as the blurb kind of indicated - but an honest one with a sense of humor that was mostly right up my alley.
The story was about Matt and Abbie, a pretty normal couple - how they met, how they fell in love, how they thought their life would turn out to be and how life got in the way of their plans… It‘s not that I‘m in a similar situation as them but there were some parts in their life I could really relate to. As weird as that sounds, it was kind of refreshing to read about their real life struggles. As I sometimes enjoy a story that is all rainbows and unicorns, it‘s good to read some realistic ones too.
The book was well written but sometimes I had the feeling that the flashbacks were too much and the story dragged on a bit.
Entertaining and short-lived book about the ups and downs and daily struggles of a relationship with a good sense of humor.

4-4.5/5💕

Thank you to NetGalley for arranging this arc! What a brilliant, *brilliant* romcom. So rarely are romcoms about long-term relationships, and as someone in a long-term relationship, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Without discrediting the author, it gave me Dolly Alderton / Laura Jane Williams / Bryony Gordon vibes.

The scenes set in the 2000s were so nostalgic for me, and I couldn't help but smile and laugh all the way through. I loved the concept and thought it was very well executed overall. Jam-packed with relatable moments from London living, to school sweethearts, to a 9-5 in marketing.

I read it in just two days, I didn't want to put it down. Snap this up if you're looking for a different style of romcom, and if you're looking to laugh out loud on the tube. It really is that good.

This book was raw you guys!! I don’t like reading flashbacks sometimes because it can get all over the place but this book made the emotions so raw in past and present. Its so realistic and make the whole plot of trying to build back up the once fairytale marriage. Its not at all gonna be like the perfect smooth sailing ride and just like marriage it requires hard work. This story didn't have the spice factor (or too much drama) which was a bit disappointing for me but I FELT THE LOVE GUYS. And if it can make me swoon, I'm not complaining too much.

This was an easy to read book with highly relatable set of characters and plot. I really enjoyed it and flew through it in a couple of days. It's not your standard romance, it has a bit more to it than that showcasing some relationship issues that most people have come across in real life so you can connect with it a bit more. Would recommend
