Hillier is brilliant at telling a story! Her writing is fantastic. I knew this was going to be a good read. I wanted to savor every word. This one is a wild ride full of twists and turns you don’t see coming.

Things We Do in the Dark is the story of Paris Peralta, a woman who marries the famous and much older Jimmy Peralta and is soon after accused of his murder. She is set to inheret much of Jimmy's fortune but all the while she's receiving blackmail letters from the more famous Ice Queen, Ruby Reyes. Ruby is threatening to reveal secrets of Paris' previous life.

Simultaneously, Drew hosts a podcast, "Things We Do in the Dark" and is ready to investigate Ruby Reyes when he hears she's about to get out of prison. Ruby tells Drew things she hasn't told anyone.

This book was amazing. Every time I thought I had something figured out, there was another layer to the story. I loved the character building and background that was involved. I'm definitely going back to read Hillier's other novel.

Jennifer Hillier is my Canadian thriller queen! The Things We Do In The Dark is a complex story spanning many years and is told from several different points of view and it needs to be on your TBR (to be read) list!

Paris is married to an older man, who happens to be a famous comedian, and who has been found dead in his bathtub while she is holding a bloody razor. Paris has no memory of what may have happened to her husband. As she stands trial for his murder she receives a letter from someone threatening to expose her questionable past.

Drew is a reporter turned podcaster who is gearing up to interview "The Ice Queen", Ruby Reyes, who is being released from prison after serving time for child murdering her wealthy ex-boyfriend.

Ruby happens to be the mother of Drew's best friend Joey who passed away many years ago. Ruby is also the person threatening Paris.

This story is so good. The twist is rather obvious fairly early on, but the way Jennifer Hillier weaves the between the different POVS is so gripping it really doesn't matter.

I loved this book and recommend it, and all of Hillier's books, to anyone who loves a thriller. Pick this one up when it releases on July 19 it's going to be one of the summer's big hits! 5 stars!

4.5 stars. Jennifer Hillier has written a great domestic suspense novel, a worthy successor to her previous work, Little Secrets. Interesting story that starts off with a BANG and which only goes from strength to strength as the plot unfolds with several twists and turns. There is a great cast of diverse characters, featuring the protagonist, Paris, a young Canadian woman of Filipino descent, and Drew, a black investigative male journalist, and there are a lot of interesting plot lines that come together nicely at the end. Good use of dual timelines and different points of view. The main character is very easy to root for as she tries to survive the traumas of her childhood. There is a murder that drives the story but just as interesting to me was the develpment of the nuanced characters. An interesting, smart thriller. You can always count on this author to deliver a well-plotted, well-written, exciting, entertaining read!

This was not my favorite of her books - it was a bit predictable. Still worth the read though...which was a quick one.

I already left my review on Goodreads , I rated this book 5 stars. From the first few sentences I was hooked. I enjoyed how this story was told through a few different people , but was easy to follow and how it all tied in. I kept thinking I knew what was going on and then a twist At just the right time world come along. Great book. My first by this author but will not be my last ! Thank you .

This book was SO. DANG. GOOD!!!! I loved everything about this thriller. The parallel story lines, the past/present flashbacks, the plot *chef’s kiss* I was hooked from the first line (believe me, it’s a good one) Although, I had my suspicions, this book was executed wonderfully and I couldn’t get enough! Also, shoutout to the author for giving my name a shoutout. Kudos to you, Jennifer! This is my first book that I’ve read from Jennifer Hillier, and now I want to backtrack and read all her past novels. I personally love books with the Hollywood/celebrity premise - and factor in a crazy murder plot line - I can’t recommend it enough!

I enjoyed this book. This is now my third book by our author, my previous two I did on audio so this e-read was a new way for me to experience our author and it did not disappoint. It is probably my favorite of the three I have read so far.

I wondered about things the whole way trying to piece things together in this book. I was suspicious of every character and encounter and how they fit into the story. I think that indicates a good element of suspense and it held my attention the whole time. I never felt bored with the sorry and it had a fast pace but didn’t make me feel left behind either. It was a quick read but didn’t lack in content in my opinion. It had elements of crime, famous people, love, a true crime podcast, and yet never felt like there was too much going on. It was a very solid read.

If you are cautious of certain topics I would recommend you pull up potential triggers as there are some in this book. For example rape and both physical and emotional abuse.

Jennifer Hillier is one of the best thriller writers working today! I love her complex stories with plenty of twists, and the last chapter of the book never fails to make me gasp. Her stories also suck you in from the first page, and this one is no exception. Paris clearly has tons of secrets, and they come out as the investigation moves forward. I managed to guess a few of the twists, but there was still plenty to keep me reeling. I don't want to say more for fear of spoilers - it's good to go into this one pretty blind!

This one reminds me of my favorite Hillier book, Jar of Hearts, and I'm betting any reader who liked that book will love this one too! 4+ stars.

Things We Do in the Dark is an exciting thriller, written from a couple different perspectives. Paris Peralta is a yoga studio owner married to a much older famous comedian, and she is arrested for his murder when he is found dead in his bathtub. Drew is a podcast host in Canada, with interest in reviving an old case that might connect to Paris's mysterious past. There are flashbacks to an earlier time as well. This is an exciting thriller, with likable characters (and also some very unlikable ones) and a lot of twists and turns. I could see the biggest twists coming much earlier than they were revealed, but that didn't ruin the character-driven story for me. A very entertaining and fast read.

This drew me in and kept me interested even though I'd just gotten a book I was rather looking forward to, which, to my mind, is a particularly stellar endorsement.

I'll start off by saying Jennifer Hillier is my favorite, go-to thriller author, and I was beyond thrilled to receive the advanced reader copy of Things We Do in the Dark!

The story opens with the murder of famous comedian Jimmy Peralta and his much younger wife Paris, who is accused of and arrested for the crime. Told from multiple POV’s and multiple timelines, this thriller delivers some twists and turns as well as confronts dark and disturbing subject matter.

While I enjoyed this story, it was not my favorite. It may have been my expectations, because I'm usually so engaged while reading her books, but I found this to be more of a slow burn and was not really invested until closer to the end. It did wrap up neatly and brought it all together, which was very satisfying.

I read all of Jennifer Hilliers books and this one did not disappoint! Complex, flawed, believable characters drive themes of child abuse, murder and money. Things, and people aren’t always what the pay seem.

Wow!! What a book. I loved every second of it, loved the characters, was blown awayyyy by the ending and never saw it coming. Sad it ended and can’t wait for the authors next book! Easy 5 stars.

This is my first books by Jennifer Hillier.. and Im so fortunate that @netgalley accepted my request to read this book .

What an impeccable read. My mind was blown . My heart was in places I never knew was possible while reading. This book was both dark and gripping . It was absolutely unputdownable.

This story contains sensitive subject matter . It contains graphic scenes of murder, suicide, child abuse, sexual abuse and lots of strip club scenes .
Seriously. This needs to be made into a movie immediately. As enthralled as I eas I know there are others that will agree .

As Hillier immediately moves into a must read author position for me , I will definitely be reading more from her . This book just absolutely one of the best books I've read so far this year ( and I've had alot of 5 stars..) I'd love to give this one a 6 star.. if only my rating system was that aggressive)

While I enjoyed this book, it was my least favorable because of its predictably. Except for the main characters who turn out to be Filipinas. I don't think I've ever read a book with a Filipino in it before. Great choice. Like I said earlier, this is not my favorite but even a "bad" (and I use that term loosely), even a bad Jennifer Hillier book is pretty darn good.

Loved the storyline and the characters. I just didn''t like the complete predictability of who was the bad guy and how each characters story was going to wrap up. I would still recommend the book.

Things We Do In The Dark is an excellent psychological thriller! It is.told from multiple POVs and multiple timelines, which may sound a bit confusing but the way the author does it really keeps the book flowing at a great pace. There are twists and turns I did not see.coming in which was an in unexpected treat. I don't want to give.to much of the ot away, so I'll leave it at get this book! You'll be happy you did! And a big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Hillier does it again! She never disappoints and Thing We Do in the Dark was just as compelling as her other novels.
