This book offers so much. It’s part mystery, part coming of age and part magical realism. Nora disappeared leaving behind her daughters Zadie and Finn. These girls have a skill of sorts but even so neither one of them could have prevented their mother from vanishing. They enter on a quest of sorts to find their missing mother but at what cost?

I don’t want to say too much because I went in totally blind but this was a unique and highly enjoyable one.

This is a book that you have to invest in - it takes a while to pick up, and the characters are a bit prickly, but once you get invested there is a whole magical world that is waiting to invite you in. The Wilder women are fascinating with complex relationships and their own complexities. This book is a bit darker than I thought, but how could it not be when it's about a missing mother?
I have a lot of conflicting feelings about this book, but in a let's talk about it way. I think this would be a great choice for a book club since the plot and characters are full of that grey vague area where great conversations are born.

I'll be honest, I'm not really sure what I think of this one. It was definitely unique and I liked the characters for the most part, however I just feel like for such an epic journey the sisters went on, it felt a bit anticlimactic with the resolve. It almost felt like the author didn't really know how to explain away a main plot of her story so she just briefly tried and then wrapped everything else up.

I read "The Wilderwomen" by Ruth Emmie Lang on Netgalley. I enjoyed this book. The book tells the story of 2 sisters in the search for their mother. Zadie and Finn do not have the closest of relationships. When their mother disappeared 5 years earlier Finn was placed with a foster family and they grew apart. But now Finn is graduating and wants to search for their mom. The search leads both sisters on a journey of self exploration.

I cannot begin to describe to you how excited I was to receive an ARC of The Wilderwomen! All that to say—I was surprised that I had kind of a difficult time getting invested in this story (and I fully recognize that I may have unwittingly brought my own expectations to the table here).

I’ve been sitting on this review for a while because I just wasn’t sure what to say. I loved the writing and the characters, but had a more difficult time with both the plot and the ending. I wish the ending would have resolved why Nora left a bit more than it did! That said, as time has gone on, I feel more and more fondly about this one. It has definitely grown on me.

Overall, I found the prose to be beautiful and very meandering. I don’t think this book lends itself to 10 minute chunks in the school pickup line, but if you have a quiet afternoon to get lost in a book…this might be just the ticket!

This is what I wanted Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young to be. I really enjoyed the fantastical aspect and how it mixed with the regular world. I listened to the audiobook (borrowed from my local library) and I really liked the narrator.

Sisters Zadie & Finn embark on a trip to try to find out what happened to their missing mom. We learn Zadie is psychic and Finn can see echoes of past events. This strange trip starts with Zadie, who just broke up with her boyfriend Dustin. She hasn’t told him yet that she’s pregnant. Zadie has a younger sister, Finn, who is just graduating from high school. They plan a beach trip that soon turns into a trip to look for their mom. A few years ago, she walked out of the house and disappeared. Will Zadie and Finn find out what happened to her?

Zadie and Finn's mom disappeared five years ago and their lives have never been the same. Now Finn wants to find her using her gift- the ability to see other people's memories. Zadie also has the ability to the see the future but she is very reluctant to use it. Will the estranged sisters be able to find their mother or is she gone forever?

At first, I didn't know what I was getting into with this book- sisters with gifts? And where was the mother? But as the story progressed, I got more and more attached to Zadie and Finn. I wanted them to succeed in finding their mom. I also really loved the road trip story and realized it's part of my wheelhouse with this book.

Oh man. I saw this available for Book of the Month and something said, "see if you can get it on Netgalley."

This is one of those stories where it was nothing like I thought it would be. I thought it was repetitive and the twist was semi-obvious. The characters didn't feel like they had any real depth and it just fell flat for me.

This was a beautiful and magical story abut family. Ruth has such lyrical writing. I just fell in love with the characters and the story and loved following along in their journey.

I loved Beast of Extraordinary Circumstance and went into The Wilderwomen with high expectations, and while I didn't love as much as Ruth Emmie Lang's debut, I did still really end up enjoying the story. I did find that the book started off a little slow but I love the magical elements found throughout the story but that much is left to the imagination of the reader, I enjoyed the sisters relationship and their journey seeking their mother.

I had found this book through the Netgalley app (Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for the approval). After hearing so many good things about Ruth Emmie Lang's last book "Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance" I just knew I wanted to read this book.

This is a magical story between a family of 3 women who are just slightly different in the every day normal world. One woman can see into the future, One woman can see past "echoes" and one woman is a mystery all in her own. This is the family of the Wilderwomen. When Nora vanishes when her children where teenagers, it sends her girls lives in turmoil. One is put into foster care and the other child is thrown out on her own. Both girls want more than anything to find their biological mother. This is a story of their journey to doing just that.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I finished it a week ago and still come back and think about the characters. They were developed well, the story line flowed great and overall and enjoyable story.

I loved how beautiful and unusual this story was. The interwoven mystery, beauty. Suspense. This book had it all. Very enjoyable read. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy.

Pretty sure I had Nora's "gift" pegged by about page 6. That said, the so-called "twists and turns" that other reviewers mention? I have no idea what they're talking about. This was pretty bland and I didn't really emotionally connect to anyone in the story. It was a good concept though, I'll give the author that.

I was super excited for this book because I truly loved Beast of Extraordinary Circumstance which was also written by this author. Unfortunately, The Wilderwomen did not meet my expectations.

What I like: I like the bond between sisters and that they are both gifted. The author has a beautiful way of packaging that relationship and it was something that is realistic and flawless for this book.

What I did not like: The dragging and excruciatingly slow turn of the plot. There are redundant issues and it gets to be boring in the long run.

The ending is at least good or I would have totally wasted the entire 8hours spent for this book.

This gave me so many Practical Magic (the movie) vibes! I really enjoyed following these sisters on their quest to find their mother. It dealt with some deep emotions and I felt like it did it realistically. There were fights, arguments, disagreements- but in the end they all love each other so they can’t let it tear them apart - welcome to family!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ebook copy! Once I really got into this book I could not stop. It was so interesting and heartwarming. I enjoyed the mystical aspect and felt that it really added to the story. This story could have worked without it, but with it we get so much more mystery and it was very enjoyable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - it had some spots that felt unnecessarily drawn out but for the most part I really enjoyed it.

This book was not what I expected. I was expecting a more conventional “superpower” story, but that does not mean I was disappointed. I enjoyed the way the story was crafted from the beginning; the oddness of the mom, and the partially unexplained rift between the sisters. It was enough to hook me and prompt me to read more. This is a story, ultimately, of two sisters looking for their mother. One is convinced she is lost and the other is convinced she abandoned them. The sisters have curious abilities that have shaped them into the people they are now, their world views, and their abilities help them in their journey. My favorite part was the campground full of people like them with equally unconventional abilities. There’s a happy ending too. More than one.

I especially liked that there wasn't a romance in this story. It was about finding family and rebuilding relationships.

I really liked this book. The story of this mom and her two daughters with their sixth senses is really good. I loved that each chapter gives a little bit more of the either the mom's back story or the sister's stories. I read this book really quickly because I had to see how it ended.

I liked the ending and thought it wrapped the book up nicely. This is a quick read that is really well written.

3.5 stars, rounded up! I really really really wanted this to be a 5 star read, I had high expectations.

The premise is good, two sisters who have drifted apart after their mother abandoned them set off together to find her 5 years later. Mixed with importance of family and a little magic/fantasy.

The relationship between the sisters was fun to watch flourish after so much time apart. The ending was a little blah for me though.

This book is for anyone who likes a unique plot and magic!
