I thought this was supposed to be a fun beach read, opposite attract rom-com, but all I felt and figured out was a lack of chemistry and a personality that I couldn't stand.

To cut a long story short, the beach read setting was enjoyable, but everything else was agonizing for me. I was hoping for some slow-burning grumpy X sunshine, but it wasn't there.

A Line in the Sand by Teri Wilson has the perfect formula of a romantic-comedy. Sometimes all you need in a book is a cute main character that gives all the sunshine vibes to the love interest that is a total grump. Molly Price has been working at the Turtle Beach Aquarium as the mermaid entertainer for some time, that is until new-in-town marine biologist Max Miller shows up as the new director and fires her on the spot. This is the second book in the Turtle Beach series, and although I didn’t read the first one before this title, I still understood everything that the story was presenting.

This was such a fast read and I think that the main element of the story that made me go through the book so fast was the small-town charm. I like how the author has everyone on board as some sort of support system of the aquarium, bringing friendship and the found-family trope as the main focus. All the events that were happening in the book were just amazing and the author did an awesome job in portraying the characters, main and secondary, as a little family.

Just for your information, this book is low heat to say the least. Don’t be expecting many romantic moments that fall into the steam category with this one, but don’t worry, both characters bring enough cute moments filled with tension of the ‘will they won’t they’ kind.

All in all, this book is the perfect escape for fans of romantic-comedies that bring on funny moments at all times!

This is a fun romcom which is a quick read. Molly and her dog Ursula run into marine biologist Max and of course it’s a comedy of errors after that. There’s an attraction from the beginning but both are reluctant initially to start a relationship. Of course Ursula is the catalyst for them starting to become close. There’s also the matter of saving the aquarium. It’s fast paced with relatable characters and it’s a perfect beach read. I found it to me fantastic book to get my mind off of issues. That’s the best type of book which takes you away from what’s going on and makes you feel better.

Mermaids. A marine biologist. Sea turtles? It was an instant sign up for me!

Turtle Beach certainly delivered with all of its cheeky antics, community spirit, and animal features, and there was just so much to love about this small and quirky town. The succession of scenes and marine focus had me laughing, sighing, and lapping up all the cosy feels, and when things were good between our mermaid and biologist, things were good.

A cute and fluffy read, with a slow building tease (and I mean slow), A Line in the Sand had the scales to be a thing of beauty. Unfortunately, some of it didn’t quite play out as I’d hoped and the one step forward, two steps back nature of the plot did become a little tiresome after a while. I adore the tension of a good slow-burn, but sometimes it felt that this was buried beneath the recurring conflicts and I missed the thrill of that emotional connection as Max and Molly transitioned from enemies to lovers.

There is no doubt Wilson is onto something with the feel good vibes this book is throwing off, and this cosy beach read is an easy guilty pleasure for basking in the sun this summer. For a light-hearted read that gives of Hallmark vibes, consider taking a trip to Turtle Beach today.

Super cute & sweet beach read! As always, I’m a sucker for the quirky elderly supporting characters! The antics of the “Charlie’s Angels” kept me entertained! This one will have you chuckling & smiling throughout!

A Line in the Sand by Teri Wilson is easily the cutest book I’ve read this summer. It’s just adorable! Ursula, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was my favorite character. She was so cute and sweet, and added a fun dimension to the story. This modern take on the Little Mermaid, brought together wonderful characters with a great location and a dash of humor for a sweet, feel-good romance that left me grinning. I felt like the main characters, Molly and Max, complimented each other nicely and I loved how they brought out the best in each other. I look forward to Wilson’s next book set in Turtle Beach.

A perfect beach read!
I really enjoyed the banter Molly and Max had. It mad me laugh out loud and quickly turning the pages.
I liked the setting of an aquarium. I think it added a unique quality to the story and having the main female character play a mermaid was super fun.
I also love animals in stories and Molly's puppy was no exception! Her dog sounded so cute.
If you love a slow burn, enemies to lovers, work place romance this is your next summer read!

🐶 This was my first book by Teri Wilson and I absolutely loved it! I’m a sucker for a good grump/sunshine trope so this book was perfect for me. I loved Molly! Although it was quirky that her hearts desire was to be a mermaid at the local aquarium, she was so earnest and sweet you can’t help but love her. And Max fit the perfect brooding grump opposite her. Their meet cute in the beginning was so well done and throughout I found myself smiling and laughing out loud.

As I found out, Teri’s signature theme is featuring furry dog sidekicks in her books and Olive was so cute and fit into the story in a really organic way as Molly’s emotional support puppy.

My only note is I felt like Molly was portrayed as a free spirit that was a bit of an airhead. It would have been really cool if Molly would have also been a marine biologist but unlike Max didn’t take it too seriously. She could have loved being a mermaid and has a huge wealth of knowledge about marine life and that would have surprised Max as he got to know her.

But either way this is a fun summer read that I thoroughly enjoyed and devoured in a day!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5
Takeaway: a perfect summertime rom com with a sparkling love story featuring a mermaid, a puppy and a grumpy marine biologist.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for an early copy! All opinions are my own.

So, this book was really cute, but I wanted something more from it. I think I've been reading way too many spicier romance books lately...it took literally 85% for Molly and Max to kiss. I really did like Max's character, but I was often annoyed by Molly's character. It seemed like she was written in a way to be viewed as childish (and she's older than me! by a year, but still). Ursula was super cute as well.

I think If someone is looking for a closed-door romance with some cute animals, this book might be the perfect read for them.

3 stars

This was a fast paced super adorable romance.
I like the setting and the town and of course the dogs! Yet I feel like both the main characters and the romance was underdeveloped which affected my full enjoyment for the book.
Still this was an adorable quick read I think perfect for summer.

This was a quick, good read for me.

Max and Molly were good while I loved Ursula and the seniors more 😁

The beach town set up and their meet cute - lot of fun to read.. Would have loved to see a bit more of the MCs together. While I missed an epilogue, the ending felt apt.
The research that must have gone behind this book is very much appreciated.

Overall, 3.5 stars for a fun beach read!

I was really looking forward to this one based on the blurb and the cover, but it missed the mark for me.

This was a quick read and one that filled a few hours for me but one that I would not keep on my shelf but pass on to a friend to read.

I liked the characters but did not connect with them

When Max moved to Turtle Island to take over his uncle’s aquarium, he had no idea just how quirky the island, it’s residents, and their dogs were. After Molly, the aquarium’s mermaid, saves Max from drowning at the dog beach, the two (and Molly’s puppy Ursula) enter a classic enemies to friends trope. Will they be able to save the aquarium from bankruptcy and save the turtles without killing each other?

If you’re looking for a quick, light hearted, quirky beach read, this is the book for you. While it lacked depth and some of the scenarios were unrealistic, Max and Molly’s quirkiness and determination drew me in and kept me entertained for the entire novel.

Thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.

I was really looking forward to this one based on the blurb and the cover, but it missed the mark for me. The writing wasn't bad, but I wasn't a fan of Molly or Max. Molly came across as very immature, and acted more like a teenager than an adult. Max was the opposite of what I like my heroes to be, alpha he was not. The whole thing with Max firing Molly didn't really bother me. I know the main draw for Molly was supposed to be that everyone loved her, but I agreed with Max. There's no such thing as a "support human" and unless you own the business, a boss is not letting you bring your dog to work. In terms of heat, this falls on the Hallmark movie end of things. They kiss towards the end of the story, but that's it. I found the dogs to be a little much at times. I have dogs, and I love them, but my whole universe is not my pets. This was a first for me from this author, but I would be willing to giver her another read.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

This was such a fun story to read, perfect for summer! I really liked it being set in a beach town full of hilarious seniors and adorable dogs. The concept of marine biologist meets aquarium mermaid is new to me and I consider that a breath of fresh air.

I wasn’t really thrilled about the romance. I thought it was alright, nothing special. I feel like the romcom is underbaked. It definitely lacked execution. While I think Max and Molly are fun and quirky, I also do think they are underdeveloped. The only reason that kept my attention was the fact that they were saving turtle nests 🐢

Overall, A Line In The Sand is a cute story if you want something light.

Romantic Comedy

Turtle Beach, North Carolina – Present Day

Molly Prince loves her job being a mermaid at Turtle Beach Aquarium. But the elderly man who owns it has turned the aquarium over to his nephew, marine biologist Max Miller, who immediately fires Molly and her dog, who was her sidekick dressed as a lobster. Max doesn’t see how a mermaid fits into an aquarium that features turtles and sea horses. Molly is not only angry at being fired but she is also devastated because it would mean her father will pester her again about going back to college for a “real career.” But Molly loves working with turtles and even has some ideas to help create income for the aquarium—if only Max would listen to her.

The finances at the aquarium are dire and Max needs to generate some income and cut corners. Firing Molly was the first step in his plan, but he’s aware that he’s ruffled some feathers in Turtle Beach. Molly is beloved by everyone, but he can’t let sentimental feelings get in the way. He can’t stop thinking about Molly because not only are people in town trying to push them together, but she also lives next door to him! And her dog loves Max! Molly soon proves to Max that he might need her more than he thinks.

A LINE IN THE SAND has a motley cast of characters who help provide the charm and comedy, but it is Max and Molly who make this tale an enjoyable one. He hasn’t been in Turtle Beach in years but decided to make it his home and take over the aquarium. The area is home to turtles and the aquarium helps nurse any sick or injured ones back to health. But Max arrives to find out that they need to generate more income to survive. He figures having a cartoon-type character greeting people in the middle of it isn’t a good idea, so Molly gets fired. Max tries to sit down with his uncle to discuss finances, but Uncle Henry keeps having excuses or ropes Max into joining him in his activities at the senior place where he now lives.

Molly’s parents used to live in Turtle Beach, but they moved away when her father got a job in the Northeast. Her father has been hounding her to go back to school. Now that she has no job, Molly must figure out what to do. It doesn’t help that her parents will be in town soon for the annual SandFest. How can she hide the fact that she has no job from her parents? Molly keeps running into Max, but it turns out that the three old ladies from the Senior Place are coming up with reasons to bring them together. Will it lead to an attraction? Will Molly get her job back?

The romance between Molly and Max starts off slowly, as A LINE IN THE SAND goes about introducing the characters to readers to show why they are hesitant to get involved in a relationship right now. Max complains a lot, but deep down, readers will sense that Molly is winning him over. Can he save the aquarium, with the help of Molly? A feel-good and enjoyable tale right from the start, readers should not miss the fun in A LINE IN THE SAND.

For the longest time I’ve wanted a Cavalier King Charles pup but only if a shelter dog presents itself, so needless to say this cover jumped out at me! Really any dog will do it though to be honest!

Max is taking over his grandfathers aquarium and he doesn’t find a need for a woman who dresses up as a mermaid, even if she saved his life yesterday from a riptide. The aquarium is struggling and he needs to cut costs.

Fuming at this outsider coming in and not seeing Molly’s value and her pup Ursula dressed as a lobster. Molly is Ursula’s emotional support human so who is he to say she’s not welcome!

Such begins the enemies to lovers rom com. It doesn’t help that the octogenarian community of dog lovers sees their potential as a couple and finds fun ways to bring them together.

Can a truce help them bring in money and save the aquarium and the turtles?

This was a cute fun easy breezy beach romcom. While the romance was a little light and not enough time together on page it was a cute read.

I received an arc via NetGalley for review, all opinions are my own and given freely.

Molly works at the aquarium as a mermaid and her dog Ursula is always with her. The new director of the aquarium fires her. Molly is peeved and that starts the beginning of the enemies to lovers trope.

This was a fun quick read. I enjoyed the characters and the small town setting. The senior citizens were my favorite part of the story. Ursula the puppy is also a treat.

A line in the Sand by TerI Wilson is a quick, fun romantic comedy perfect for a day at the beach. A meet cute for a workaholic marine biologist and a turtle loving mermaid.

This was a super fun, easy read. With likable characters, low drama, low angst and sadly very low steam . Pretty much exactly what I think of when I think of a beach read. The story itself isn't very exciting, but still an enjoyable small town romance. Filled with quirky elderly folks, friendly pups around ever corner , a small fake relationship situation, a brilliant and lovable Spaniel, baby turtles , a sand sculpture competition, cupcakes, and bingo.
