This is the second entry in the Grilled Cheese Mystery series and Reilly not only delivers plenty of yummy recipes, tons of Halloween/fall vibes, but a mystery that will keep you guessing till the end. Carly and the crew are a delight and everyone should have a sweet pup like Havarti. I can’t wait to see where this cheesy (grin) series goes from here.

Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an advance copy of No Parm No Foul by Linda Reilly.

While this is the second book in the Grilled Cheese Mysteries, I felt like I could read it without having read the first book. There was no confusion, and each character was introduced without feeling like I missed anything. Plus, there was no carry over from the first book.

Carly Hale was an interesting amateur sleuth. I enjoyed reading about her life and loved the idea of a grilled cheese eatery. You would think the sandwiches would get repetitive but there was plenty of variety with interesting names. I found the mystery set up very good as well. There was plenty of suspects that kept me guessing. However, one story stood out as I was reading it (no spoilers) and I kept going back to the story because it seemed like it was thrown in for a reason and it was.

There were multiple supporting characters. I would have liked to see more of relationship with Carly and her best friend. But I did enjoy them both. Carly’s family especially her mom was a hoot. She reminded me of every mom that’s a little overbearing but not to the point that it is too much. My one complaint was Carly’s relationship with Ari. I liked that he was a suspect so you could tell the reason why Carly was so interested in finding the murderer not just because she was nosy. But I also felt like there was not much to the relationship and it felt a bit stunted. Carly is a widow so she has found love in the past but there was a line that she felt more for Ari than she ever did for her first husband which sort of surprised me since she has not lived in the town for that long.

Overall, No Parm No Foul is a good cozy mystery. There were many suspects that kept you guessing but I found about halfway through the suspect to be obvious. His reasoning was interesting, and I liked how it was all tied together (including Carly’s sister’s new boyfriend).

This second in series was worth the wait. Carly is a widow who returned to her hometown and opened a specialty sandwich shop. Problems crop up during local business Halloween celebrations. Then an angry shop owner slanders her and shortly afterward is found murdered. Let the clues multiply and the sleuthing begin! And enjoy the cheesy recipes, too!
I requested and received a free ebook from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

Cheesy Puns Abound….
Cheesy puns abound in the latest instalment of the Grilled Cheese Mystery series and another visit to Balsam Dell where the Halloween food competition is just around the corner. Unbeknown to Carly someone is holding a grudge and will stop at nothing to bring her down. When a body turns up Carly must don her amateur sleuth hat once again. A fun cozy mystery with a colourful cast of characters, a great setting and an entertaining storyline. A worthy addition to the series.

I was like a kid in a candy shop when I saw the beautiful cover for No Parm No Foul by Linda Reilly. The vibrant colors and the punny title were proof that I was going to love this book.
Carly Hale is the owner of a cheery grilled cheese eatery, where she creates some mouthwatering recipes for her customers.
Carly is working on a recipe for the local Halloween food competition, but unfortunately, one of her competitors is not playing fair. Fake ballots and property vandalism are just the beginning in this fast paced cozy mystery.
Its always a pleasant experience to read a new book and love everything about it. I hope to see this series continue on.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
I'm looking forward to recommending it to others.

No Parm No Foul by Linda Reilly is a great culinary cozy mystery that is the second book in the adorable Grilled Cheese Mysteries series.

I really enjoyed the first book, Up To No Gouda, so of course I wanted to read the second one. I really like Carly Hale as the main character. She is realistic, likable, and has a cute and quaint shop.

I especially love the Vermont backdrop and the fall/Halloween theme and season. Anything that includes my favorite holiday is usually a win for me. I enjoyed its incorporation into the murder/mystery plot and the entire story kept me interested and engaged throughout. Plenty of suspects kept it fresh and intriguing, and I looked forward to finding out the culprit right along with Carly.

The Panko Perfection recipe sounds right up my alley!

I am looking forward to the next installment for sure.

This is the second in a relatively new cozy series. I would give this about 3.5 stars - definitely above average in terms of the mystery itself and character development, but there’s something almost twee about the tone that can sound forced or artificial. It’s hard to believe at times that this is how adult characters would talk to each other. It’s a sweet story, though, and the grilled cheese recipes included sound delicious.
