I loved this one. A gritty novel with a kick ass heroine. I loved that the characters all had a dark side, it was not a perfect suburbia setting. So many twist and turns. Gruesome and edgy! This was well thought out and well written. I enjoyed this from one one to the last page.

2.5 stars. I didn’t realize this was a sequel until midway through the book, which was a little disappointing because I don’t like reading books out of order. That said, I felt the main character was a mix of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum (always finding herself in sticky situations) and Andrew Mayne’s Sloan McPherson (badass female investigator). Yes, much of the scenarios are far fetched, so keep that in mind as you enjoy the ride.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really good read that was filled with action. Suzie was a real go getter and I liked the other characters as well. The ending was interesting and I would really like to read more from this author. Would recommend.

Orphaned at age ten by a violent home invasion, Susannah Faulkner grew up wild, her stubbornness the only thing harder than her heart. Since then, she’s used her skills to put a boot in the faces of those who deserve it. She knows she’s wired wrong and living a dangerous and violent life, but she’s determined to wring something decent from the world before she leaves it.

Then she gets word her brother Ethan needs her help and returns home to Atlanta. But in the airport, she finds her Uncle Gavin suffering a heart attack. Before he is rushed to the hospital, Gavin whispers a single word to Suzie: Peaches. She’s determined to uncover the meaning behind the cryptic message, but Ethan is also deep in trouble. An ex-soldier and ex-con named Finn appeared on his doorstep with a disturbing story: fifteen years earlier, Finn served with their father in Iraq, where they stole millions in cash. Now the money is missing, and Finn wants his share—or else.

I did enjoy the characters in this story, especially the interactions and wise-ass comments. The storyline was a bit 'off the wall for me, I wasn't expecting a one-woman army to go after bad guys mostly by herself, but there it was. The ending wasn't what I was hoping for, but at least the heroine wasn't killed off in this story--yet? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I really enjoyed this book. Suzie is such a likable character. Her loyalty and persistence are admirable. The story drew me in right away. It was full of action and suspense. I’m interested to read more by Christopher Swann and I’d really like to read more about Suzie!

Finn, an Irag veteran is back after spending 14 years in prison to collect on money he thinks is due to him. Except the person who knows about the money is dead. Suzie Faulkner is dealing with her own crisis with her uncle in the hospital and Suzie scrambling to set things right in his absence. When Suzie and Finn collide a whole new set of problems come forth and Suzie has to race against the clock to protect her family, keep Finn out of the way and get the FBI off her back.

This is one racy thriller. It literally flies from the first page. If you love fast paced mysteries then Swann is the writer for you. The story is fast paced, action packed and definitely a perfect read if you love the genre. I had the opportunity to read an ARC copy and not only did it help me discover a writer I hadn't read before but also a story telling style that almost reads like a screenplay.

You must add this one to your pre orders of must buy books if you love a fast paced mystery.

A gang war threatens to explode on Atlanta’s streets. Uncle Gavin clings to life in the hospital. Finn is bent on finding his missing millions. And now, Suzie will be tested as never before in a crucible of violence where all that she holds dear is on the line. It was full of tension, twists and turns that kept me totally engrossed… I read it in one day as I just couldn’t put it down.

Susannah Faulkner is a force to be reckoned with. She uses her skill, wit, and connections to face off against forces she deems a threat to her family and society. Her traumatic past has driven her to the dangerous lifestyle she has chosen as it is a way for her to harness power over situations most would deem beyond their control.
This was a great stand-alone novel as I didn’t realize that it was a sequel to “Never Turn Back” until I was finished. I can’t wait to read “Never Turn Back” now that I know it exists! Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for allowing me to read this novel. #NetGalley #NeverGoHome

Review of eBook

Susannah Faulkner returns to Atlanta at her brother’s request, but her Uncle Gavin’s heart attack mars her arrival at the airport. Before the paramedics whisk him off to the hospital, he whispers, “Peaches” to Susannah and she’s determined to find out what the message means and to do whatever her uncle wanted her to do, but her investigation soon embroils her in a gang war.

Adding to the complexity of her homecoming, an ex-soldier named Finn arrives on the Faulkner doorstep, claiming to have served in Iraq with their now-deceased father, James. Furthermore, he claims James stole millions of dollars from the government . . . and he’s come to get that money.

Neither Susannah nor Ethan know anything about the money, or the possibility that their father had stolen it, but lives are on the line, leaving Susannah in the thick of things, trying to find the truth, trying to locate the money, trying to keep everyone alive.

With the FBI hot on her trail, a kidnapped man in mortal danger, and Finn’s escalating demands, Susannah must navigate a treacherous path. Will she find the answers? And what about the missing money?

=========

Opening with a bang, this narrative, a follow-up to the earlier “Never Turn Back,” pulls readers into the telling of the tale from the outset. Despite being the second in a series [and clearly at least one more book will follow this one], the book works well as a standalone. While Ethan is the central character in “Never Turn Back,” his sister, Susannah, is the central character in “Never Go Home.”

Grim and gritty, with strong, complex characters and a compelling plot, the story doesn’t hesitate to plunge into treachery and intrigue. At times, Susannah comes across as cold and calculating, but readers will discover that she’s simply good at what she does and, although she doesn’t wear her heart on her sleeve, she truly cares about her family.

The unfolding narrative, filled with tension and suspense, keeps readers guessing as the plot twists and turns, revealing some surprises along the way. Readers will find it difficult to set this one aside before turning the final page [which leaves one plot point open, presumably for another book]. But with the main plot points tied up, questions answered, and truths revealed, there’s satisfaction for readers, both in the denouement and in the promise of things to come.

Highly recommended.

(I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley) Although it isn't my usual type of storyline, I was completely surprised. The writer used enough details to string me along but also keep me guessing. The childhood trauma of the main character shaped who she had become. This made the book interesting because she was unpredictable and fearless. Without Suzie, this wouldn't have received 4 stars. Definitely one to read if you like movies with Jason Statham and Daniel Craig, among others.

Look, I'll be honest, I am not a fan of suspense or thrillers or horrors or anything that will make me sleep with the light on but this? This is gold.

Susie is a kick ass main character and Christopher Swann has written her so freaking well - we all love a woman who will do anything for her family and Susie is it.

I enjoyed the plot - insanely unique and flows so well. I will be recommending this to my own bookclub as the August book I enjoyed it that much.

Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

I requested this book based on just the cover. That was it. Knew nothing about it. At first I was rolling my eyes with some of the plot. But after a bit....I was hooked.

Susie is a badass doing badass things. She goes home and the shiz hits the fan. Family means everything and she’ll stop at nothing to protect and avenge hers.

In Never Go Home Suzie is helping her Uncle Gavin take down a gang. She is staying with her brother Ethan. To be honest, I didn't get to much further than that. The writing is great and the story is good, but it just wasn't for me.

I chose to read this because it was billed for fans of Linwood Barclay. I was not disappointed. The main character is absolutely brilliant and the plot is very enjoyable. I loved it.

This was not my favorite read. I was very confused at times, and almost did not finish. This is a sequel/ part 2 of Never Turn Back. I wish I knew that ahead of time because maybe the plot would have made more sense. I might go back and read the first, and will maybe update my review.

Thank you to Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
