A Thousand Miles is a lovely summer romance of second chances.

Ten years ago, Dee and Ben did a cross country trip to visit his grandmother in Colorado. They promised each other than in ten years they would do it again. But life happens. Couples break up. They move on. That is exactly what happened to Dee and Ben.

Dee is now a rising podcaster and Ben is a middle school teacher. Immediately after Dee kicks the guy she has been seeing out of her apartment, Ben is at her door. They haven’t seen each other in ten years. But “A promise is a promise”.

The overall story was pretty predictable, but that didn’t make the reconnection between Dee and Ben any less sweet. They both have issues to work through but have no problem falling right back in synch like when they were dating. I found the story enjoyable and fast to read.

I'd been highly anticipating this book about long lost friends because it sounded a little bit like Emily Henry's The People We Meet on Vacation, and although I did really love parts of it (the cat!!! the grandmother anecdotes!), I did struggle to connect fully with the characters. I listened to a good chunk of this book on audio & the narration was fun including podcast moments for Dee's podcast --- so fun. Ultimately, while I enjoyed the story, it just didn't make me feel as much as I'd hoped and it hasn't stayed with me either.

I really enjoyed this friends to lovers romance. I also enjoyed the second chance troupe and self discovery aspect. I liked the plot and premise of the story and enjoyed getting both points of view of the main characters. This was a fun romcom I would recommend it!

First, thank you to Berkley Books via Netgalley for the e-book copy for review. I rarely get an approval from this publisher that this chance was a sweet surprise. A huge thanks as well to PRHAudio for the audiobook copy. You always have the best stuff!

Well, this was a cute, fun, and emotional love story of second chances. There is always an extra comforting feeling about best friends becoming the best lovers. Dee and Ben are two individuals that are quite very opposite from each other in terms of type, personality and characteristics but seem to fit perfectly together like pieces in a puzzle. They fulfill a ten-year promise to each other and to Ben’s late grandma that they will once again take the road trip of a lifetime. As expected of a ten-year promise, the memories unravel and brought them back to the exact place, experiences and the best times of their lives, there is no denying the love that they always have for each other.

This was a slow read for me but in a good way. The relationship was a little predictable and there was not a lot of conflict to give me the gut wrenching feeling that only true love can give. Regardless, it was still worth the time and the experience! I rate it 3.5stars rounded to 4. Perfect for summer with some road trip ideas too!

A friends-to-lovers, forced proximity, road trip, second chance romance with a podcast subplot and a cute cat thrown in? It's no surprise I loved 𝗔 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗦!

The author created two wonderful main characters in Dee and Ben (the secondary characters are fabulous, too!), former high school best friends who slept together and haven't spoken since. Back then, they vowed to take a road trip ten years down the line, and Dee is surprised when Ben shows up to keep the promise, reigniting their friendship and revisiting the issues from their past.

The banter in this book! At one point Dee says "It's like we're building a fire word by word, trying to find a sentence that sparks the flame" and you totally feel that. The transcripts of Dee's podcasts are a fun addition, and the evolution of the couple's relationship feels totally believable. This nostalgic and clever romcom is one I won't soon forget.

Thanks to Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for the copy to review.

I know I’m of a certain age because I immediately started singing 🎶I would walk a thousand miles 🎶 when I saw this title!

This was a fun one. Dee and Ben were high school best friends but haven’t talked in ten years. Dee currently cohosts a podcast and Ben lives an unexciting, but comfortable life. He steps out of his comfort zone when he asks Dee to take a road trip with him to reopen a time capsule. It’s been ten years since their friendship fell apart and it’s time to step out of his comfort zone.

This book shows that you never really know it in all in high school and life takes so many unexpected turns. I really loved the podcast elements in it and would totally listen to this podcast!

A second chance romance/ friends to lovers AND a road trip?? Sold. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. Ben was adorable and he had a great connection with Dee. The banter was great and I most certainly laughed out loud at parts.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t get into it. The high school nostalgia was just… a lot. And the podcast episodes were not flowing with the story for me. But the cover is adorable and the writing is well done. I really do think a lot of people will enjoy this one. Just didn’t work for me specifically.

this was really good! I love the characters and the writing style. Dee and Ben are so cute and I love the whole road trip aspect, I think its a very unique idea. This reminded me of people we meet on vacation and I absolutely loved that book, I'm a sucker for the friends to lovers trope, and second chance romance is always fun to read when done well. yea, this was a solid read, I enjoyed it,

“After a decade of silence, Dee and Ben reunite for a road trip they once promised to take. It's going to be a bumpy ride.”

Mini Review:
This book reminded me of a lot of People We Meet on Vacation. So if that book was for you then definitely check this one out. Unfortunately, People We Meet on Vacation wasn’t for me and I found this one to be just okay. It wasn’t a bad book, it was just a miss for me. What I did like is the two main characters and how much we learn about them. I was happy when I saw this book was dual pov because then we really got to connect to the characters separately. Some scenes and interactions between the characters made me smile but overall the story felt very bland and anticlimactic. I’m disappointed because I really wanted to love this book. The cover is super cute and the plot sounded good but the execution was lacking. However, I think it is just a me thing. I’m hoping you all will read this book and will enjoy it!

I would definitely recommend this book to people who love second chance romance, childhood friends to lovers, and stories told in dual pov. I’m hoping the problem is me and that other readers will love this book.

Thank you so much to @berkleyromance for the gifted copy on #netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dee and Ben were childhood best friends. Regardless of what was going on they always had each other to turn to. After graduation they lost touch and did not speak for 10 years.

Now Ben is at Dee's doorstop to make good on a promised road trip plan 10 years after their first.

From Illinois to Colorado they quickly fall back into their old comfort levels with one another. I felt like they were a bit immature at first but then realizing they were picking up from their high school relationship and working through it helped put it in perspective. By the end the relationship arc felt real as the relationship evolved over the course of the trip/book.

Dee and Ben haven’t spoken in ten years when Ben shows up at Dee’s door. They were best friends in high school, and maybe they could’ve been more if not for a big fight after a road trip. Now, Ben is back proposing a new road trip to go back to dig up a time capsule from the previous trip. This forced proximity romance novel has some great banter and some funny scenes, but it was a bit lacking. The reason for the original fight could’ve been explained more and readers are left with questions about the characters’ families. Instead of the random filler scenes such as the finding of a stray cat and chasing it through a baseball stadium, more depth could have been added where the characters discuss what they’ve been doing for the last ten years. This book was a good quick read, but this story has so much more potential.

This was such a great read!!! I love a good second chance romance and this story gave me People We Meet on Vacation mixed with Love and Other Words vibes. It was so fun to see Dee and Ben’s connection come alive on the page with also some legitimate LOL moments. I loved tht it was dual POV between Dee and Ben and i thought the podcast episodes were also so fun to read. Definitely recommend this book!

What a sweet and delightful book! It's my first Bridget Morrissey book and certainly will not be my last. It's full of nostalgia, swoony will they or won't they moments and so many more adorable moments. I really loved the growth of these two characters and the way they found their way back to each other — while also bringing out the best in each other.

Super cute and enjoyable read!!

This second chance at love/road trip romance was just an okay listen for me. This former friends who reunite after ten years to go on a special road trip and dig up a time capsule was just a mediocre experience. I liked the podcasting episodes sprinkled throughout but I honestly didn't get invested in these characters. Sadly a bit of a miss for me but recommended for fans of People we meet on vacation. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance digital review copy.

Dee Matthews finally feels like she has her life together after a tough childhood where ends never seemed to meet. She loves her apartment, her friends, and she co-hosts a podcast with her best friend Javi named “Did I Forget To Tell You?” where they overshare about just about everything in their lives. The only thing Dee refuses to share is the name of her first love, Ben Porter. Sure she discusses him, but only as Name Redacted, which has only served to make him infamous among their listeners.

Dee and Ben were the best of friends up until high school graduation, but they haven't been in touch in 10 years, so when Ben appears on Dee’s doorstep, she’s completely thrown for a loop. Ten years ago, Ben promised Dee they would repeat their road trip from Chicago to Denver to visit Ben's grandma, the trip that changed everything in their friendship. Ben is determined to keep his promise to Dee, despite the gap in their relationship now. Dee can’t say no to Ben Porter, so they embark on the 1000-mile road trip together, this time to clean out Ben's grandma's house as she's recently passed.

What a fun read, with just the right amount of gravitas. This second chance romance is full of witty banter. laughs, and ridiculousness. Dee and Ben might not have spoken for ten years, but their love clearly never died, and it is so enjoyable to witness its full return. I definitely recommend this book.

Why yes, I did just happen to have a Colorado Rockies hat laying around my house, thank you for asking. And if you want to know why it’s the perfect prop (along with Blitzen) for this photo, then you’re going to have to read A Thousand Miles, by @bridgetjmorrissey! And GUESS WHAT - it’s out today….whaaaaat?!?! Thank you @berkleypub @netgalley and @letstalkbookspromo for the #giftedbook!

I read this for #berkleybuddyreads with some #bookstafriends and I am so glad I joined in on this one! What a fun read, with some 🌶 and some tension but so many moments that made me giggle and others that made me tear up.

Check this one out - it’s a great beach/pool read!

Y'all I LOVE a road trip! This book really captured the feeling of adventure but also the cozy side of a road trip as well. From choosing the perfect snacks and music to the weird attractions you can see along the way, this book had them all covered. Even a stray cat so you KNOW I have to give extra points for that.

I'm glad we got both perspectives in this book because I think we needed Ben's level-headedness. I loved Dee but at times she came across a bit too manic pixie. They balanced each other really well and I totally believed the intensity of their friendship. They were able to speak so open and honestly with each other in a way that I haven't really seen in other "friends first" stories.

I love a good second chance romance and A Thousand Miles fits the trope perfectly. Dee and Ben were best friends who fell apart after making their friendship something more in high school. They haven't spoken in ten years until Ben shows up on Dee's doorstep to take the road trip they had promised to take together.

This book is sad, funny, hot, and sweet.

I feel bad bc this is doing nothing wrong, but i’m just bored at this point.

I was entertained by the beginning, but it started getting repetitive and lost me. I feel like it's definitely a me thing and it takes a LOT for me to get behind a romance, and this just sadly wasn't one of them.
