Is When the Day Comes a time-slip? Or a time-travel? Or something else. Gabrielle Meyer has given us a bit of all three in her newest release. I don’t want to say too much at the risk of giving spoilers, but let’s just say Gabrielle has given us a complex story with complex characters that I couldn’t put down. Meyer could have taken shortcuts with this technique, but she gave her all in historical authenticity and beautiful writing.
Libby lives in two worlds simultaneously, one in 1774, Colonial Williamsburg, and the other in 1914, pre-WWI England—the irony isn’t lost in the author’s selection of those time periods. When Libby goes to sleep at night, she wakes up in another time, without any time passing. Fascinating. Many in her family had been time crossers. On her twenty-first birthday she must choose which time she will live in.
At first, I thought her time-pick was a no-brainer, but each choice has benefits and disadvantages—and not in the way you would think!
I stayed up to 4am to finish this book and it was worth the lack of sleep today.
Highly recommended for romance, time-slip, historical, speculative, and time-travel fans.
My thanks to Bethany House for a copy of this book via #NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Wow! What an original premise! I was pulled in from the very beginning and was fascinated by the dual time travel. I couldn’t put the book down, wondering what would happen to Libby as she alternated between 1775 Williamsburg and 1914 London. Without giving away any spoilers, I did suspect from early on one of the key surprises in the ending; however, I will still on the edge of my seat to see how everything played out. I cannot wait for the next one in the series!

Wow. I didn't know what to expect from this novel since the premise of time-crossing is so unique. I wasn't sure if it would feel too fantastical and hard to believe. But let me tell you, I shouldn't have worried one bit.
When the Day Comes is one of the most gripping, unpredictable historical novels I've ever read. I loved both time periods, colonial Williamsburg and Gilded Age America and England. Libby was a strong, smart, patient, and kind heroine who I rooted for entirely. Also, Henry was an amazing hero. I loved the intrigue surrounding him. The "time travel" was explained in a way that I could wholly "believe" in the story.
I cried for Libby, and I cheered for her. Honestly, this book took a toll on my emotions but in the best way.
This book will challenge your faith in a way that makes you want to depend on the Lord even more fully in your own life. The emphasis on God's will was inspiring.
The next book in this series can't come soon enough!
*I received a copy of the novel from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.*

I have read a lot of dual time stories and enjoyed them, but never had I read one quite like this one. Libby lives in two worlds simultaneously, one in 1774 and the other in 1914. When she goes to sleep at night, she wakes up in another time, without any time passing. This was really intriguing. Many in her family had been time crossers. She will eventually have to decide which world to stay in because she can’t do this forever. She knows which world she wants to live in. But will it be the world she will choose?
Fascinating premise, this story was and the author does a very nice job with it. I know I was surprised several times. Recommended.
My thanks to Bethany House for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The review is my own opinion.

This book was hard to put down! For the most part, I enjoyed it, though I would warn that there is a trigger in the story when someone is raped. That said, the author does a wonderful job of taking a difficult situation and not trying to push it under the rug, but rather show how God can use our brokenness for His purposes. I can't wait to read the next book!

I read a few hundred books each year, and enjoy time-travel, historic fiction, and mysteries....this is a combination of all of the above, with a bit of romance thrown in, too. It's almost like reading two books at the same time - one set in Colonial Williamsburg and one set in WWI England - until they begin to intertwine toward the end. And the ending...oh my heart! There are so many different facets to this book; it could have been a hot mess, but author perfectly weaves together each and every one of them to create a masterpiece. I look forward to seeing what comes next in this series!
