After reading a couple of books by this same author, I guess it is safe to say that I am just not a fan. These are nice, quick reads, but I fail to see anything special about these books, so far. They seem a bit boring and can be pretty predictable. I do hope to listen or read one that I will enjoy more.

Title: Passerby
Author: Britney King
Rating: 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jester Falls has always been an idyllic town. Perfect for a getaway. And what better place to stay than Magnolia House, the tourist trap's most popular bed and breakfast, run by the eccentric Channing family. Ruth Channing loves her family, at least what's left of it. She'd do anything to protect them. But it isn't until her brother picks up a mysterious woman on the side of Route 78 that Ruth realizes how many definitions the word anything can have. Everything about Ashley Parker rings false: her past, her profession, even her name. Most worryingly of all, her reluctance to leave. When guests start disappearing, it's clear there's more at stake than just the family business… a lot more.

I listened to this on audio through @netgalley and also read this via kindle unlimited. This was definitely a fast paced thriller. This story is told in dual points of view, one through Ruth and the other through “Passerby”. I didn’t think that it was really necessary for the “Passerby” storyline, as it’s just the killers version of what was either just explained in Ruths version or what will be explained in Ruth’s upcoming chapter.

I didn’t feel overly connected to any of the characters in this story. Ruth was okay, but I felt like she could be pretty childish at times. I did like the mystery surrounding Ashley and how Ruth connected the dots and figured out who she was. I just wish that there was more insight into Ashley’s backstory.

The ending twist got me pretty good. I did not see it coming. Though for me the ending felt a bit rushed. I wish we would have gotten more information on all of the characters in the epilogue. It felt like there was more to the story that wasn’t being told.

Overall, the narration was great, the story was just okay for me. Thank you to @netgalley and @orangesky for this audio in exchange for my unbiased review.

Passerby is out now on Kindle Unlimited, will release Audible on February 1, 2022.

Magnolia House is a bed and breakfast owned by the Channing family. Ruth Channing runs the B & B. Her brother shows up unannounced with a girl he just met. Ashley Park is literally a stranger and quickly weaves her way into her brothers heart. Ruth is suspicious of Ashley and her motives.
🏡
“Three things you should always keep a secret: your love life, income and your next move” is quoted in this book. So poignant in this novel.

Thank you NetGalley for this audio. I will definitely read more by this author. #britneyking, #netgalley, #orangeskyaudio, #bookstagram, #audiobook, #booksconnectus, #stamperlady50

liked the narration, how funnily blunt and Ruth's character is - but the story felt a bit jumped, like it was rushed whenever it was convenient.

**please note due to low rating I will not be leaving a public review for this book as I have not paid for it.**

I really dislike this book. The characters were painfully annoying and the story didn't grab me. The narrator was ok but not my favourite

This is my first book that I’ve read from the author and I thought the story was crazy, unbelievable, and dark.

What I didn’t like was the storyline. It was a bit jumbled up for me at the beginning.
The ending felt rushed and the plot twist was lost on me.

What I did like, was the narrator, and the main character Ruth Channing. She can come across blunt and abrasive to the townspeople but I actually liked her.

The narrator, Almond Eastland did a great job portraying the characters. Almond kept me intrigued and used a waifs variety of inflections and tones.
Honestly, the narrator was the one that kept me listening to the story.

Overall it was a interesting story, if you grab it please send me a dm so we can chat about the plot. I need someone to chat with.

I really don't know where to start, or how to finish describing this INCREDIBLE thriller 😍 it's not very long so whether you listen to the audiobook, that you can easily find on Netgalley, or decide to read the book, it wouldn't take you more than one sitting, and believe me when I say, YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IT !! None of the characters were likable except poor old Julia, but I guess that was done on purpose, and it makes you love the book even more ❤

The story revolves around Ruth, a beautiful yet lonely and quite unhappy or rather miserable young woman, who's life changes from uneasiness and self-pity to pure and utter horror. Everything seemed somewhat normal for Ruth as she was taking care of the Magnolia House, left by her parents, a place where multiple weddings were organized.

Ruth had two brothers, the oldest, Johnny and the youngest, Davis who had quite a few skeletons up in their closets. Their lives came crumbling down after Davis brought home a young woman by the name of Ashley Walker. As Ruth kept digging, all while trying her best not to get killed anonymously, she found more than she had bargained for.

This thriller will take your breath away and make the hair on the back of your neck stand. You'll get angry, frustrated, scared, confused and extremely curious. I have to admit, even though I had seen the ending coming the way it did, that didn't make it any less shocking and If I learned anything, it's that you can't trust anyone, not even your own family.

"...You can't trust people. Not even when they say they're your friend, sometimes ESPECIALLY not when they say they're your friend. Not even when they tell you they love you, sometimes ESPECIALLY not when they tell you they love you..." - Passerby

I am totally in the minority on this one but I DNF this audiobook at 31%. I thought the writing was hokey and lame while trying too hard to be funny. The narrator did a great job of making Ashley Parker even more annoying than she might have been had I simply read the book so props to her!

I was mesmerized by Britney Kings’ Passerby. This psychological thriller is full of suspense and of foreboding of what would come next. I was totally gripped by this story of the mysterious woman and the vanishing guests.

Dark psychological thrillers are my reading favorites. For me, the narrator was right on point. Passerby is just what I hoped it would be: a scary and dark suspenseful, thrilling read.

I had a very hard time following this book. The way it jumped around from past to present to random events was very confusing. There were a few times when a story from the past crept in so briefly that I couldn't follow the storyline. The way the author describes life in a quiet, small town combined with multiple dangerous and criminal events in this story didn't add up. It didn't come across as a thriller because none of the events seem believable to me. Instead of describing a scary or dangerous circumstance the author seemed to be saying "this was dangerous, this was scary". This was just not the book for me! I couldn't get attached to any of the characters. It was a bit chaotic.

"There are three things you should always keep a secret: your love life, your income, and your next move. Once you lose your mystery, you can’t get it back. As the saying goes, sincerity is glass, discretion is diamond."

This is my first book that I’ve read from the author. Passerby by Britney King which is a new release, met all those plot points I needed at the moment. Not only was it a well written psychological thriller but, it kept me on the edge of my seat till the very end. It was a book so unlike anything I’ve ever read before and not only that but the ending was insane. Legit insane. For a huge portion of the book it felt like the main character and I were slowly being driven insane by the actions of the secondary characters and it all blew up in the end.Take my word for it and grab yourself a copy, you won't be disappointed!

I really enjoyed this audio, the narrator was fantastic and really added to the story - Ruth was so quirky and the narrator captured this. The story was brilliantly short but contained the entire facets of a great story, such a treat. This author is one that I am going to investigate and the same with the narrator.

Fully recommend.

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

This one was short and sweet, so to speak. It was a fun story that pulled me in. I enjoyed the way the perspectives and plot lines wrapped around each other a bit. I had mixed feelings about some of the characters. The conclusion was okay, but I felt like there were some loose ends left, unless I missed something. Overall, it was good!

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. I enjoyed the book. It was a very easy read and I listened to it in less than 24 hours. I enjoyed the narrator. I would read from this author again.

In Passerby we follow the Channings - siblings and co-owners of Jester Falls' popular bed and breakfast, Magnolia House. They have their differences, but when one of her brothers picks Ashley Parker up, they will soon find out that she certainly knows how to stir a pot.

I listened to the audiobook produced by OrangeSky Audio and narrated by Almond Eastland. She made my reading experience even more pleasant - I loved her style and pacing, and I feel that she did the story justice.

Ruth is a delightful and genuine character; Passerby is one of those books you finish reading without even realizing. It is fast-paced, easy to read, and has that Hallmark quality, albeit much darker. I would love to see Ruth as a character in more books - Jester Falls has the makings of a small town where a lot of craziness can happen.

I enjoyed King's narrative, and as a bonus, there are many lighthearted pearls of wisdom that I enjoyed, such as "as the saying goes, sincerity is glass, discretion is diamond."

I recommend this book for those seeking a fast-paced, witty mystery.

Disclaimer: In exchange for an honest review, I am thankful to OrangeSky Audio and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of Passerby.

The Passerby by Brittney King was ok. Just ok. Not terrible, but not great. It felt rushed and disconnected and, because of that, I couldn't feel a connection to any of the characters. The narrarator was definitely the best part! Without her my 3 star review would have dropped significantly.

Thank you to NetGalley, OrangeSky Audio, and Brittney King for allowing me an ARC audiobook for my honest review.

Book: Passerby
Author: Britany King
Genre: Psychological/Thriller
Publisher: OrangeSky Audio
Pub Date: February 1. 2022
My rating 3.5

Two siblings inherit a bed and breakfast from their parents. They decide to fix it up and get it running again. Once it's running however people start going missing and it becomes a mystery as to who is behind it.
If you like dark humor (like me) you will love Brittany Kings books as all of them including this one is full of it. The writing is engaging and keeps you in suspense with a surprise twist at the end. The narrator was very good as well. The only thing that I didn't like was I got confused a few times about what was going on...but all and all a decent read.
Thank you Netgalley and Orangesky Audio for this advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

I read a LOT of thrillers and I listen to as many as I can. Passerby was my first book by Britney King and it won’t be my last. She has a dark, snarky, funny voice and a knack for creating memorable characters.

The plot did lose me at times. For me the conceit of the “passerby” narrator did not really work as it interrupted the parts of the book that interested me more. And I didn’t fully understand (or maybe it was more that I didn’t fully buy) the ultimate reason for the murders. But I did enjoy the reading experience, the characters (especially Ruth, our quirky and sometimes snappish main character) and the funny and intense narration of the audiobook. And I enjoyed the very end twist a lot. While I’d give this book 3.5 stars overall because of parts of the plot that didn’t fully resonate, I was definitely entertained and engaged, and even more definitely interested in reading any other books Britney King has to offer.

Thanks to OrangeSky Audio and NetGalley for the advance listening copy and the introduction to a new thriller author whose voice I enjoyed!
