It was fun, easy to read, fast pace romance-fantasy! A strong start for a series because it definitely make readers want the next book ASAP.

I love the MC, Dawsyn Sabar. She is resilient, strong headed, never stop for anyone. She had ENOUGH and allow herself to be angry. Well, she is reckless and jumping too hasty into perilous situation at times, but I just love that she has a strong character! Ryon is pretty great and has so many layers. Not sure we have uncovered all of them in this book...

The world building was pretty great, and it kicked off with a hunger games style "supply fight" to point at the survival and hard living in the Ledge. I also love the journey down the Glacian Palace to Mecca. There are some small plot holes in between, things that got me "wait but how/why" but they are not a big issue. Still have a lot of fun reading!

After being randomly selected as a human sacrifice, instead of death, Dawsyn finds herself on a quest to save her people from their icy prison...
In a place known as The Ledge, a civilization is trapped by a vast chasm and sheer mountain face. There is no way for anyone to escape the frozen wasteland without befalling a deathly drop. They know nothing of the outside world except that it is where The Glacians reside mystical winged creatures who bring them meagre rations to survive, in exchange for a periodic human sacrifice.
Dawsyn, axe wielder and only remaining member of her family, has so far avoided the annual culling, but her luck has run out. She is chosen and ripped from her icy home, the only world she knows. No one knows what will happen to her on the other side, least of all Dawsyn. Murdered? Enslaved? Worse?
TThankfully, the fates align and Dawsyn manages to escape their clutches with the help of a half-Glacian called Ryon. But trust does not come easily, and she keeps a trained axe to his throat while they journey together down the slopes. But who’s to say that the life below will be any better than the one she has run from?
Read in one sitting really enjoyable read totally recommend

This book was so bad. I DNFd it around 20%. The writing was clunky and the racist undertones of the dynamic between the MC & LI was just awful. There was nothing new or original here, the writing lacked any personality, all in all, a thoroughly disappointing and problematic read.

This book is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions, you’re strapped in and your ride partner is beyond dangerous with the stamina of a wild cat. She is stronger than any female character I have had the pleasure of reading. Dawsyn is someone you want on any adventure, she will absolutely destroy an entire army by herself and walk away looking for more.
I loved the dual pov in this, being able to see both MCs view was fantastic and the way Stacey wrote the characters made me wish to be there, but also thankful I’m not because It’s far too cold and dangerous. The banter between Dawsyn and Ryon is just fire the entire time, the tension is palpable and when it lights.. wow! Sheer perfection, be prepared to add a new book boyfriend to the list.
This is a fast paced story with a fantastic plot line and the strongest characters. And that ending!!!! How do I handle the wait for book 2? I need a drink, but maybe not as many as Dawsyn does.

Thank you to NetGalley for this copy. I am leaving an honest review willingly.

I will start with the positives of this book.
1. The writing style was on point. For this being a “debut”, it was written quite well. This style of book can fall short to even the most seasoned authors. Bravo.
2. The adventure. 10/10 I’m always here for adventure in books and this definitely gives you what you’re looking for.

Now on to the not so good parts.

I was hooked on needing to read this book after following the authors TikTok stuff and just from the all around description. I’m sad to report that I don’t think I was necessarily the target audience for this book.

To me this was kind of another play on the Maas series style that is blowing up the media today. Which for many, this book is going to soar, but for me it landed flat.

I am always appreciate an ARC when provided! I’m happy I was given a chance to read this, even if it wasn’t meant for my style of reading.

I've followed Stacey McEwan on TikTok for awhile and was beyond excited to get an advanced copy of her book! I really liked the premise of this book and how it was part fantasy, part romance and part dystopian. Life on the ledge is brutal and the culling aspect added an extra level of dread to the tale. I was hooked on Dawsyn's story and couldn't wait to see what happened once the Glacians selected her to bring across the chasm. This book was a wild ride and I cannot wait until the next book is released!

I've followed Stacey McEwan for a while now on TikTok, so when I heard she was releasing a book, I had to read it! And it did not disappoint.

First, I will say that the writing style threw me off at the beginning. I wasn't sure I was going to like it and it kept pulling me out of the story. But as soon as the plot picked up, I found I noticed it a lot less and it worked well with the story.

I LOVED the characters of this story and hope we get to see more of our side characters (Salem, Esra and Baltisse) in future books.

I also thought the world building was really well done and the plot had me from beginning to end. AND THE ENDING.

I cannot wait for the next book because I NEED to know what happens next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Angry Robot for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

I completely adored this unique book! It was part dystopian, part romance, part survivalist tale, and completely amazing. I stayed up all night to finish it, as I could not put it down! I loved the idea of the Glacians, and the culling, the Ledge, all of it, and I really hope to revisit this fascinating world. Can’t wait for more from Stacey McEwan. 4/5 stars!
