A Regency Romance, Full of Intrigue and Secrets

This story captured my interest from the very first page and kept me reading until the very last. The suspense was riveting, and the romance was fantastic. Both Nate and Sydney had secrets, and until they trusted one another, their journey would be quite rocky. He thought she was a traitor, but an evil organization held her hostage through blackmail. Who was threatening Sydney, and Could Nate protect her? It’s a twisted tale of danger and intrigue. I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to those who like Regency romance with secrets, intrigue, and suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I wish I could give the story more than five stars.

A Remarkable Rogue continues the Lords of the Armory series with the captivating story of Sydney and Nathaniel, a couple that is required to overcome many obstacles on their road to romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, the novel was fast-paced and exciting, the stakes couldn't be higher, and I enjoyed getting one step closer to uncovering the sinister Sceptre plot that has carried us through all five novels. Anna Harrington's protagonists are feisty and engaging, with closely held secrets that both need to uncover before they can truly trust one another. I can't wait to see what the next book in the series reveals!

I adore Anna Harrington and have read much of her library, including the first 4 books in the Armory series. I admit I waited a hot minute to read this book - I don't love widows as heroines and I didn't love the premise of Nate chasing her as a suspected spy. But once I picked up this book, I could not put it down. I loved Sydney and easily identified with her desperation and love for her child. The interactions between Sydney and Nate swung the gamut from amusing to heartfelt to fabulously steamy. I really liked how Ms. Harrington had them at different stages at working through similar situations - it provided a reasonable reason for Nate's changes during the book and also allowed insight into what a strong woman Sydney is.

I could tell who the villain was from the moment they entered the story, but I still enjoyed watching the hunt for Scepter come to a (seeming?) close. This book could be a standalone but will be much more enjoyable if you have read the other books in the series. 5 stars.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions herein are my own.

A Fairly predictable historical romance but it was still a good and enjoyable read. I think I found a new favorite Historical romance author.

Anna Harrington provides readers with a historical fiction tale that includes romance, danger, and suspense. This book has a solid plot, with great character depth, extraordinary characters, and a fascinating mystery. The author captured the characters and cultural lifestyles of the times and brought them to life. This beautifully executed story had characters that felt emotionally rich. With some unpredictable moments in the story, it gradually builds momentum until its action-filled conclusion. While the main mystery is solved in this book, there are still several threads that could be used in future books in the series. this was a moving and memorable novel with some pivotal stressful and emotional moments. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Generally, I enjoyed the next installment of this series. There were secrets (even though I figured some of them out!), romance, and I loved the parallels between Sydney's and Nate's backstories.

I think the pacing was a bit off for me -- most of the action happened in the last 1/3 of the the book, and was wrapped up in just a few chapters. The reveal at the end was a nice touch but again, because of how late it happened, it lacked the emotional punch I am truly looking for.

Not sure how I feel about this bit yet, but again, at the end, there is a discussion of revolution vs reform, and it felt a bit like getting whacked on the head with the point. There's a lot to be said for the modern historical reflecting our current world, and while I usually love those parallels, this one just didn't do it for me.

All that to say, I'm invested in Scepter and hoping we finally get some answers and pay off in the next book!

Captain Nate Reed, the hero of Toulouse, has been given the task of finding the head of the notorious group, Spectre. Spectre is determined to overthrow the monarchy and will stop at nothing to accomplish their goal. The group uses blackmail against those in the ton in order to get them to do the dirty work.

The latest suspect is Baroness Sydney Rowland and it it is Nate's job to find out how she is involved. What he doesn't count on is the immediate attraction he feels for the woman! And, Sydney is equally enchanted with Nate. But, will they be able to overcome their rocky beginning to find their own HEA? Or, will Sydney end up in jail or even dead because of her involvement in the assassination attempts against the Crown?

Anna Harrington is one of my favorite authors in the Regency genre, mainly because her books are full of intrigue and history. She brings her characters to life with all of their flaws, mixes them with a great suspense story and throws in several hot and steamy scenes that are definitely NSFW!

I hope that the author continues to write more books in the Armory series since I know that I will be thoroughly entertained by her works.

I enjoyed reading about Nate and Sydney, how they met to how they fell in love.

He was working with his half-brother to capture the Scepter who has been causing havoc throughout London, the case brought him to keeping a close eye on Sydney and getting to know her. They finally had some of the pieces of the puzzle fall into place, they were able to get rid of one of the heads of the Revolutionaries.

In the end it was a very HEA. I highly recommend this book!

A Remarkable Rogue is a well-told story. I'm really not into espionage, widow with child stories, but this one is good. I haven't read the rest of the Armory series but maybe I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read the others.
The dialogue is good, the story not too outlandish to be unbelievable. The chemistry between the main characters was great!
All-in-all if you like secret agent stories, love after a successful but too short marriage story, you will enjoy this one.

This is such a wonderful series and author! I’m sad the series is ending but I really loved this one! This book really had it all and a wonderful wrap up! There was action, mystery, family, and enemies to lovers! Sydney and Nate were a wonderful pair! Sydney is a widow with a secret. She doesn’t want to get married again. She thinks every marriage the husband will be too controlling and she will lose her freedom. Nate is a captain and is helping to find scepter. He works hard and isn’t looking for love but he had such a big heart! Sydney and Nate don’t get along and have all the banter until a time comes where Nate protects Sydney and her secret! They work really good together, in more ways than one;) These two had a lot of chemistry and tension! I enjoyed watching these two overcome their pasts to get to an HEA! Just a great book and series!

What a spectacularly thrilling fifth instalment in the Lords of the Armory series! This book had me on the edge of my seat pretty much the entire way through.

Our hero, Captain Nathaniel Reed, is no stranger to us. He's been skulking around in the shadows all throughout the previous four books, but now it's finally time for him to be in the spotlight. The men of the Armory are still looking for the leader of Scepter, a group intent on overthrowing the government and deposing the king. Which brings the very attractive Baroness and widow Sydney Rowland straight into Nate's path. He's convinced she is involved in Scepter, so he makes it his mission to get close to her. But it soon becomes clear that she is another one of Scepter's victims, and Nate is determined to take down Sceptre before they can cause her any more harm.

The tension, the romance, Nate and Sydney's backstories, their growth throughout the story (both apart and together),... Was there even one thing about this story that wasn't just absolutely perfect? This book provided the ending this series deserved. Throughout every book, the author managed to balance both the pace and the tension, while also making sure there were some very sweet love stories along the way. Every next book in this series was better than the previous one. As far as historical romance series go, this one has been a unique experience. I can't wait to see what Anna Harrington will come out with next.

A Remarkable Rogue is the 5th book in Anna Harrington's Lords of the Armory series. This is the story of Nate and Sydney and we learn more about the overall theme of the series, Scepter.
This book fits in perfectly with the rest of the series and I love the mix of suspense and steam. I enjoy historical spy romances and each book in this series gets better and better. I'm generally not a fan of "widowed" main characters, but it worked in Sydney's case and gave her the motivations for the rest of the book.
I highly recommend this book and I'm excited to read Anna Harrington's next book!

Ms Harrington has written another wonderful story in this series as the finale ties up all the loose ends. We’ve got spies spying on spies, as they continue to find the leaders and finish the Scepter conspiracy. The well-written characters of Lady Sydney Rowland and Captain Nathaniel Reed start out as adversaries, but are masterfully developed into comrades, then lovers. How they come to work together is nicely written and neatly woven into the story as they each give up their mistrust of the other and learn to work together…both in bed and out of it. The suspense is nicely built, as we know something is about to happen each time, and yet there are twists and surprises along the way. A very well written book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my freely given, honest review.

I have to preface this by saying "I'm not a fan of spy romance." *BUT* Anna Harrington does something in her Lords of the Armory series that just keeps me coming back for more. Each book is my new favorite. I didn't think she would be able to top book four, but then she gave us "A Remarkable Rogue" in Captain Nathaniel "Nate" Reed. Talk about a grumpy, rule-following, internally (and externally) scarred hero. Literally, a hero. And the woman he refuses to be attracted to, the widowed Baroness Sydney Rowland. She's seen by some as scandalous and outlandish but really it's all a ruse to live a life of sheltered solitude, protecting a secret no one can discover.

Sydney is hiding a son whom she never sees yet loves as only a mother can while Nate is the unacknowledged, bastard son of an earl who raped his mother as a young woman. (If you've read the fourth book this is not a spoiler and is also revealed again very early on in this book.) So we see two people who understand what it is like to deny and be denied by those who do or are supposed to love you. Ms Harrington has a way of taking two people that seem so different and yet at the heart of it, they are two pieces of a puzzle that fit so well together. She added so many complex layers to each of their stories, but they just fit so naturally that nothing feels forced or outlandish. Each layer brings them closer to each other, revealing the truth behind what society sees, and opens up their own internal wounds to eventually find new family.

Also at the heart of this book is the continued story of Scepter, a group of revolutionaries determined to overthrow the government regardless of who is blackmailed or killed in the process. Again, I mentioned I didn't like spy romance, but Ms. Harrington does a wonderful job of balancing the two so the romance is never forgotten in the story. The spy stuff never bogs down the book as most of the time, the two main characters are either together (which is the point right?) or are eventually mentioned or thought about forcing the other person to "share the scene" with them. At the heart of each book is the couple, how they can grow both separately and together.

I cannot not mention the physical side of this book. I felt that this book might have been the most sensual of the series. It was a delight watching Nate try to resist Sydney, as well as seeing Sydney provoke Nate. The chemistry between the two was off the charts. The book is steamy with a decent amount of spice.

I found myself crying a few times throughout the book which does not happen to me too often. Ms Harrington writes very moving scenes and dialogue. She really understands human emotion and can relay it to the reader, pulling them into the moment and the turmoil of each character, even the secondary characters. There is a sort of "third act drama" but these two characters are adults. Each of them handles the situation as an adult would and it isn't frustrating but rather endearing. The drama feels organic and truly made me love Nate even more.

I feel like I could say so much more about the two main characters and how different, yet similar, they were. This is truly a remarkable book (no pun intended). If you are looking for a little adventure, a bit more angst, a dash or three of spice, and seeing two people learning to let go and let love win, this is a book for you.

Absolutely loved it! In the last book we thought Sidney Rowan was up to no good! Boy were we wrong!
Anna Harrington, never disappoints. This entire series was just perfect we finally got know who Specter was, at least we think we did. You couldn't but fall in love with Alec Sinclair, he was the perfect knight in armor.

Ladies this book is a must read! My only complaint that Harrington should have given Sinclair a title he did get the reward money so a title would have been lovely!

The Lords of the Armory series has been so great and A Remarkable Rogue did not disappoint. Our hero is closing in on the power behind Scepter and falling in love too.

Sydney and Nate were wonderful together. It was nice to see them working through past grief and learning to trust in love again. The inclusion of Sydney's son made this a very emotional read with a highly satisfying ending. What a fantastic addition to a well written series that I'm sure I will revisit in the future.

3.5 stars rounded up.

Lady Sydney Rowland, Baroness Rowland, has secrets to protect, most importantly that of the existence of the young son she can’t acknowledge publicly as her own. Now widowed and finally out from under the control of the husband she loathed, she just wants to be left alone, but when she’s blackmailed into working for a revolutionary group working to overthrow the government, she cooperates in order to keep her son safe.

Captain Nathaniel Reed knows Sydney is connected to Scepter and sets out to find out just how deeply involved she is. When he realizes she’s innocent, he becomes fiercely determined to protect her while also keeping her at a distance and ignoring the clear attraction blossoming between them. But when the threats against her turn more serious, Sydney turns to Nate for help, and he’s immediately determined to help her and show her just how much she means to him in the process.

Nate may just be the perfect hero. He’s a former soldier with some PTSD, sensitive, still mourning the loss of his wife and their infant son and wracked with guilt that he was away at war and not there to help them. In short, he’s that hero that you just want to hug and cuddle and take care of and it makes him instantly likable. Add in his tendency to be protective over Sydney even when she pushes him away and Nate is nearly irresistible. Sydney, on the other hand, I found to be quite a pill. Her behavior and hesitancy to trust Nate at first is totally understandable and relatable, however, it goes on much too long after their relationship has progressed, and I felt like she should’ve been beyond that. She also gave Nate a lot of mixed signals that I wasn’t crazy about, being alternately hateful to him and then all over him. That erratic behavior and refusal to confide in him got a bit annoying and I felt like it crippled their relationship trajectory and made it seem like she only wanted Nate for sex, even when he was quite clear that he wasn’t one to sleep around indiscriminately or without commitment. This was yet another of his characteristics that I found irresistible and that made me even more annoyed with Sydney for jerking him around and disregarding his feelings. Then she had the nerve to wonder why he wasn’t giving her much attention after she so coldly refused him. It was just offensive that she refused his efforts to make their relationship permanent and had the audacity to compare him to her previous husband when she’d had time to come to know Nate so well and had to know he possessed a superior character in every way. I was just left feeling that she didn’t deserve him if she still couldn’t banish her fears after how much he’d proven himself to her, plus she had the absolute gall to point out their differences in rank/social status, despite having praised him previously for making such a name for himself as a war hero. Give me a break.

The bottom line here is that I adored this hero, and I loved the storyline with us finally getting more information about Scepter and what seems to be their ultimate downfall. The heroine brought this down for me, but I still enjoyed this story and I’m pleased with it as a wrap-up to a series I quite liked and would most definitely recommend.

I love this series by Anna Harrington and I recommend it to everyone. If you haven't started it, don't pick this one up yet as I don't want you to miss out on anything. DO go back to book one (or wherever you left off) and read all the way through this book.

Harrington did a great job building out the Sydney as a character. It's obvious early on that there is something pushing her to do the things she has been doing but it's also clear, she isn't happy with it. Sydney is essentially putting her life on the line when she is blackmailed / threatened with the one thing she cares about most, her son, and she will do anything to keep him safe.

Nathaniel Reed has learned about Sydney's involvement and is assigned to find out what he can as well as stop her but he quickly learns that Sydney is innocent. He also quickly finds himself attracted to her like no other but he is determined to keep her at arm's length no matter what. When things take a turn and Sydney asks for his help, he finds himself coming to her aid and they realize they can't fight the attraction they have for one another.

I thought Harrington has done a fantastic job of weaving the Scepter storyline throughout all of the books and I love the mystery aspect to these stories. This one kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen for our main characters as well as what more we were going to find out about Scepter and I wasn't disappointed in either storyline.

If you're looking for a new historical romance, I definitely recommend picking up this series / book and I can't wait to read more from Anna Harrington.

A thrilling mystery, a passionate romance and a surrender of the heart. A truly masterful romance complete with intrigue and action. Sydney’s actions had always been about survival, about protecting her secret. She is a woman of unmatched strength and will. She is completely capable in all, except trusting herself. Nate has lived punishing himself for the loss of his wife, with no regard for us own safety. When these two strong forces come together, it is a battle of wills. Surrendering to their love for each other was as inevitable as the dawn.
The mystery and intrigue of Scepter and the growing plots they cook up, kept me on the edge of my seat. Just got when I thought I knew the direction things were headed, it changed course. I fabulous story that will easily grab your attention and hold you tight til the end.
