I unfortunately wasn't a fan of the characters and didn't really buy the romance; a lot of it seemed to be based on physical appearance only.

This was a very good book by one of my favorite authors. Ms Harrington writes historicals with a witty and flamboyant style. The book is a part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. The characters are well developed with thought and feelings of their own.
Lots of secrets and spies with an agenda to over throw the government. The Scepter is out to get anybody to do their bidding. They get widow Baroness Sydney Rowland who is coerced to wok for them and do anything to get her son back.
Captain Nathaniel Reed has found out about Sydney's involvement with the Scepter and has decided to stay wary of her. Even if she turns his thoughts to erotic delights, Nathaniel has his duties to perform. But when Sydney turns to him for help. he finds that he can't resist her plea.
Two people keeping secrets that turn to love and a happy every after.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

I have been loving Lords of Armory series from Anna Harrington for the past four books - so it pains me to say that this latest installment is my least favorite; in fact, I can't say that I like it much.

First, the characters - either Nate nor Sydney impressed me. I think throughout the book I get to dislike both back and forth. Sydney keeps crying out the words "I can't" ... like, "I can't tell you my secret", "I can't trust you", "I can't be a good (view spoiler)", "I can't marry you because marriage takes a way my freedom" ... it grates on my nerves. Nate keeps saying that Sydney is one brave woman; I just can't picture it.

While Nate is demanding all the time ... and let's face it, Nate practically wants Sydney because of sexual attraction only. I don't believe that Nate falls in love with the whole Sydney personality (again, he says she's brave and kind... I just don't see it).

Their relationship is on flimsy basis and everything happens so fast (from attraction to having sex to "I love you"), I don't believe in it. I don't think they have any chemistry at all. I keep skipping pages because I'm bored. The only plot that slightly catches my attention is Nate's relationship with his half-brother's family, the Sinclairs.

In addition, I'm frustrated with how the author is dealing with the Scepter plot. I know that this series is first and foremost a romance series; but the whole secret deadly organization investigation is going too long. I feel like it barely scratches the surface!!

I think the next book will be the last? I hope it is more satisfying than this one.

A Remarkable Rogue by Anna Harrington is the fifth book in the Lords of the Armory. This historical fiction takes readers on a journey that includes romance, danger, and suspense. This book has a solid plot with great character depth, extraordinary characters, and a fascinating mystery.

Fifth in the series. Dynamic read with verve!

Ok this was both terrific, and occasionally terrifying. Captain Nathaniel (Nate) Reed of the King’s Horse Guards, natural son of Earl of St. James much to his dismay (there’s a history there!), dubbed the hero of the battle Toulouse after Waterloo.
Flushing out the leader of Scepter is his game, the widow, Baroness Sydney Rowland is his aim. Obviously a member of that revolutionary movement, why else her involvement with persons of interest who’ve had their life threatened? Except Sydney has a very good reason for her actions and being caught in the home office. Not that she’s ever going to expose them, ever!
This story has its own momentum and fascinating spin around the central theme of exposing the Scepter villains. The title is matched in its tension, unique storyline, and fascinating attraction between the lead characters. The frisson between the Captain and the widow is divine.
Another taut tale about the members of the Armory, a reminder of their mission and their battle with Scepter:
“—The Armory, Where Evil Fears to Tread." A place for ex soldiers, a sanctuary, where these loyal men will, "band together and use [their] skills to shut down Scepter and to help those in need, wherever they might be, no matter the threat." (from An Inconvenient Duke Lords of the Armory #1)

The romance between Sydney and Nate singed the pages from the start. They sparked from their first meeting in a gaming hell. Both have loved and lost which affects their view of love and the progression of their romance. Each of their childhoods also has a far-reaching impact on their lives. These aspects of each character are well developed and demonstrated in the story. Nate is a war hero – strong, calculating, caring, and smart; while Sydney is smart, attractive, protective, and caring. I enjoyed the dynamics between Sydney and Nate.

I found that a few things were mentioned either as a major plot point or minor that didn’t get a conclusion or the one that was provided didn’t make sense given the information provided during the story – at least not to me. I was hoping for more from the mystery subplot in some ways – although I did for the most part enjoy it.

I strongly recommend reading this series for better enjoyment of the subplot.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really liked reading another book in this series so I was excited when I got this one.

I did like this one and thought the romance and mystery blended well together. It was a four star rating.

This is the 5th book in Harrington's Lords of the Armory series, and honestly, this is my favorite book so far (and it's super hard to top the 3rd one)! A Remarkable Rogue is everything I love about her books: steam, original plot, historical details, etc. Harrington doesn't write generic historical romances. I love their uniqueness.

This book's couple, Nate and Sydney, are my favorite in the series. I loooove a widow story, and if you combine that with a hot horseman and action and mystery, you're gold in my book. If you've read the series, the main thread revolves around an organization called Scepter, a violent, revolutionary group who run London with crime and hope to destroy the British monarchy. Each book revolves around a different man involved in helping to stop the organization. Nate is a wonderful MMC because he grows during this book. AND he's a sexy soldier. Sydney is my fave type of FMC. She is determined, sex-positive, and realistic in her failings as a mother and how she wants to be the best mother ever. Sydney is being blackmailed by Scepter, and Nate is the man in charge of finding out as much information as he can about the group and its activities, It becomes clear early on that Sydney is being blackmailed and has no connection to the group. Once Nate figures this out, he protects Sydney and tries to get to the bottom of the organization.

Without giving away too many details, both Nate and Sydney are scared to trust each other. BIG time. He's been in long-time mourning for someone, and she has recently been able to gain her independence by the death of her cruel husband. Realistic touches are everywhere in this book, from Sydney's anxiety over how to be a good mom, to Nate's realization that life moves forward after death and he must continue to live and love. The steam in this book is awesome, and Harrington's vivid descriptions of characters really let you imagine everything in detail. The scene with the water bucket in the stables?? I'll be thinking of that one for a LONG time.

Anyway, I could rave and rave about this book, but if you've read any of her books before, you know how awesome she is. I've been reading her since 2017, and I've never read a book I didn't like. There is only one small criticism I can make--and this is totally a "me" thing--but the title, "A Remarkable Rogue," doesn't really apply to this man. He's a monogamous guy--definitely not a rogue. Other than that, this book gets a very enthusiastic five stars!!

Nate is on the hunt for a traitor - and thinks that Sydney, a widowed baroness, is the key to uncovering him, knowing she’s been taking orders from a shadowy, treasonous organisation. What he doesn’t know is that Sydney is being blackmailed, and she will do anything to keep her secrets buried. But once Nate starts to investigate her, it becomes harder for them both to ignore the attraction growing between them.

This was quite a solid historical romance book. It’s well-written and has some very romantic moments. Nate is a really strong hero, very considerate and likable and it was easy to root for him. Sydney was a little harder for me to warm to. I didn’t really understand some of her decisions and found some of her refusal to trust Nate to help her quite annoying as it felt like it went on for a while.

I also have to say the romantic element of this took a while to capture my attention; I found the external plot involving Scepter to be quite interesting and well-plotted but the romance, in the first half, felt a little bit bland. I can’t put my finger on what the problem was - I just didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between them and I found some of their encounters a little bit forced. This might have been a little bit because of my issues with Sydney as a character, too.

That said, it really picked up in the second half when they had to go on the run together. This section of the book was a lot pacier and blended the romance wit the external plotlines very effectively. The introduction of Robbie was a very sweet addition to the book; his relationship with both Nate and Sydney was very cute, but especially with Sydney. I also thought it had some good fight scenes towards the end and I appreciated Sydney being proactive and daring during them, that was a refreshing change.

I did enjoy reading this and overall I quite liked it. I think the more-solid second half really sold it to me as a book. Once they had to spend time together in a way that felt more natural, it worked a lot better for me. They had some good scenes together and I felt their chemistry a lot more. I just think the first half suffered a bit from it taking a while for the plot to get going. I would definitely recommend it though to anyone who wants a well-written historical romance with a class difference couple and a lot of action. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free copy of this book.

Full of action, mystery, danger, and romance which is my favourite. I liked both character's although I did think Nate should have got himself together after three years and didn't really believe he'd saved himself for his dead wife. Although this could be read as a standalone I did feel I was missing out on things having not read the other's. This is my honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

This was my first book by Anna Harrington historical romance, and it did not disappoint! It was steamy, intriguing, and even had an interesting mystery plotline! I'll definitely be picking up more books by this author in the future...

Series: Lords of the Armory #5 it can be read as standalone
Genre: Historical Romance
Trope: different class, dead ex
Topics: mystery-solving, secret society, crime, damaged hero, widowed heroine, to love again
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Release Date: July 26, 2022

I don't enjoy the dead ex trope and here both hero and heroine have a dead ex, so their romance was a little underwhelming for me. I didn't quite believe it. Also, heroine wasn't making sense to me, on one hand, she seems brave but on the other, she is a coward making excuses in situation that makes her stupid. I could never get on board with her decisions.

The secret society plotline kept the story moving and it was interesting.

Overall, it was an okay read for me. Quick! Enjoyable! Enjoyable! Funny!

*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of the book. This is my honest opinion.

I enjoyed this book! A bit predictable but that's not always a bad thing.

Anna Harrington is definitely becoming one of my favorite historical romance authors. This is the second book I have read in this series and I've enjoyed both of them so much. I really have to read the first three books soon, I can't get enough.

Captain Nate Reed is trying to get information out of Baroness Sydney Rowland regarding her connection with Henry Everett and Scepter. Nate soon realises that Sydney isn't actually working with Scepter, they're blackmailing her with a secret she's not willing to tell anyone. When Sydney finally tells Nate that they're threatening to kill her six year old son they end up working together to figure out who's behind it all.

I really enjoyed the main characters, Nate was so sweet and swoony, truly the perfect man. Sydney was so incredibly selfless and caring. Their chemistry was great right from the start. I loved how both of them let themselves love again, and seeing them trust each other in that way after their heartbreaking experiences was so amazing. The moment Nate and Sydney meet her son for the first time perfectly portrayed how much she loves her son even though she hadn't seen him in six years. I do wish we got more scenes of Sydney and Robbie bonding, and I feel the romance between her and Nate was a bit rushed.

This book was such a fun time, and I will definitely keep reading whatever Anna Harrington puts out.

This book is so much fun!
It's unputdownable. There's action, mystery, danger, and of course romance. It has everything I'm been yearning for in historical romance lately.
The hero is absolutely swoon worthy and I wish I could have my very own Nate! The main characters have chemistry for days.
This series has been a delight but A Remarkable Rogue is the standout so far. I just loved everything about it.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book - I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the fifth book in the Lords of the Armory series and the second one I have read. I really enjoyed the previous one, A Relentless Rake, and immediately bookmarked the rest of the series to read. I was particularly interested in reading this instalment, which features the mysterious and beautiful Sydney Rowland and Captain Nate Reed.

I immediately loved the chemistry between these two characters and, as usual, the author ensures that we understand each character is vulnerable in their own way, which gives them plenty of depth. I thought Nate was gorgeous and sexy and he was the main reason I liked the book.

I wasn't immediately drawn to Sydney - I think that's a personal preference of mine more than anything. It's the extremely beautiful heroines that make me step back and roll my eyes a bit. I like a heroine who is a little more unconventional in both attractiveness and personality.

I still love this author's writing and am keen to read the rest of the series.

Lady Sydney Rowland, Baroness Rowland, has spent a lifetime keeping secrets, one of them being her young son. Now that the husband she despised is dead, she'll do anything to get her son back and protect him however she can. And that includes risking her life when she's coerced into working for a revolutionary group determined to overthrow the government. Captain Nathaniel Reed has heard of Sydney's involvement with Scepter. Though he quickly learns that Sydney is innocent, he's determined to keep the secretive widow at arm's length despite the attraction that burns between them. But when she turns to him for help, nothing will stop him from coming to her aid and showing her exactly what she means to him.
The moment I opened this book and read the first page; I was hooked. This historical romance has everything I look for: a hero who is strong, confident, and loving, a heroine who knows her own mind and is independent, a suspense-filled plot that helps to build the loving link between the main characters, and a happy ending. This is the best historical romance that I’ve read this year so far. I highly recommend it to all romance book lovers. Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for this advanced reader’s copy. This review is my unbiased opinion.

Opening days after the conclusion of A Relentless Rake, A Remarkable Rogue picks up with Alexander Sinclair, Earl of St James, (hero in last book) and Captain Nathaniel Reed continuing their search for the head of the evil Scepter organization. Nate is charged with getting information from Lady Sydney Rowland, who may be a pawn or a direct member of Scepter.

Sydney is tired of being constantly on edge and afraid for the safety of someone in her care, someone Scepter is using to blackmail her into running their errands. When Nate approaches her, she doesn’t trust him, but she’s frustratingly attracted to him.

A Remarkable Rogue is another an entertaining story in Ms. Harrington’s Lords of the Armory series. I loved seeing these two seemingly broken people learn their true worth through helping one another and serving the greater good. Both have sworn off love because of loss and betrayal. Yet as they work together and grow close, they cannot deny their attraction and connection. It takes some convincing, but eventually they get their HEA. I love that they treat one another as equals, regardless of station and standing. They support one another and genuinely care for those around them. They work well together and as a couple.

The continuing saga of Scepter and their efforts to overthrow the monarchy appears to be coming to a climax as the half-brothers and their team get closer to uncovering the truth. There is quite a bit of action in this one, and I thought maybe this would be the final book. However, I see on the author’s website that another book, A Problem Princess, comes out next spring.

Overall, A Remarkable Rogue is an enjoyable romance and exciting adventure. Due to the nature of the over-arching storyline, I strongly recommend reading the books in order. I look forward to see what happens next for these dashing lords and their ladies.

My Rating: B+ Liked it a lot

This is the fifth book & finale of this wonderful series. It could be read on its own but ends are tied up & villains revealed so I’d recommend reading the series in order. Oh my! Nate was everything you want in a hero, strong, caring, loyal protective, gorgeous, need I say more! I adored him. I liked Sydney but she was like a Dresden doll, nice to look at but no real substance. I loved the chemistry between them & how they gradually let go of the past & moved forward. There was also the bringing down of Sceptre & I was engrossed in how things were resolved. I’ve loved The Lords of the Amory & am sorry to say farewell to them & hope that the author decides that Sceptre rears its head again & needs completely disbanding
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

What a wonderful story! I loved Nate and Sydney. They both had broken hearts and learned how to move on after loss. Watching Nate fight with himself over his feelings had me wanting to just hold him LOL

We find out who is behind Scepter in here. Or did we? We definitely learned why Scepter is trying to start a revolution. The person they arrested - I don't want to give anything away - denied being Scepter, but admitted to being with Scepter. So that is why I wonder if we really have the mastermind behind it. Add to the fact that Clayton Elliott does not have a book and he NEEDS a story, I just wonder if this is the last we will see of the Lords of the Armory.
