This is the 5th book in the Armory series about the hunt for Scepter, a criminal organization which is trying to overthrow the British government. The last book ended with Captain Nate Reed following Sydney Rowland, after she blackmailed mathematician Henry Everett. But he quickly discovers that she was forced to do it because she was being blackmailed. That seems to be how Scepter works. He also discovered that he is very much attracted to the widow, but he is still guilt ridden over the loss of his wife, Sarah, who died in childbirth and their son, while he was away at war. Sydney has experienced her own losses, the lost of her first love, who died suddenly before they could wed, the betrayal by her parents by forcing her into a marriage to a depraved man and then stealing her son. Both do not trust, but must learn to trust each other, if they are going to stop Scepter before he murders the Prime Minister, the Regent and Sydney.. Not as descriptive as the previous book, but just as exciting. Also, I do not get her risking another unwed pregnancy. Is this the last book? Not quite clear at the end, if it was Scepter that was caught.

I read an ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

A wealthy widow, Sydney, finds herself blackmailed about her past. Nathaniel is tasked with finding the leader of a group of rebels who want to kill the king and take over the government. Not trusting many people in her life, Sydney must learn to trust Nathaniel to keep her alive. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for my honest review.

Although each book in the Lords of the Armory revolves around stopping he revolutionary group, Scepter, each are unique in their characters, situations, and villains. I love the way romance, intrigue, danger, and secrets are woven through each book, especially this one. Captain Nathaniel Reed is charged with investigating Lady Sydney Rowland. Can he believe in her innocence? Both have found their once in a lifetime loves, but lost them. No matter how attracted they may be, both are afraid to chance their hearts again. The way this story plays out is a testament to the author's talent. The reader can speculate at what will happen, but not how it will happen. My favorite kind of read. In the end, did they get the right villain? Maybe we will find out in the last book in the series.

Ahhhhh this was just such a great read. I just didn't want this book to end and I was sad to turn the last page. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.

It was cute and interesting. But i was missing a little character development that felt natural from both Sydney and Nate`s sides. But it was cute nontheless.

I was relieved to find out that Sydney isn't a killer. She is an easy character to like. Nate is wonderful, he trusted Sydney pretty quickly. There were a few slow parts but not enough to ruin the book for me.

I received an ARC of "A Remarkable Rogue" written by the remarkable Anna Harrington, from Netgalley. This is part of her Lords of The Armory series. The storyline captivated me and kept me engrossed and enchanted.  An absolutely must read book about Captain Nate Reed and Sydney Rowland. The captain must determine if and why Baroness Rowland is working for Scepter. The problem is every time he is near her, he is magnetically drawn to her poise and beauty. The Baroness is hiding a deep dark secret that she dares not to share with anyone as everyone she has ever trusted has either left her or betrayed her. This book had me on tenterhooks and must be commended for its suspense and romance. An extraordinary story on the forever kind of love one holds for the people we care about most.

In this Book 5 of the Lords of the Armory series the search continues for clues to evil revolutionary Scepter group and its involvement in the recent plot to kill the Prince Regent and the Prime Minister. Nate, investigating Scepter undercover, suspects that the widowed Baroness Sydney is deep inside the organization. He is tempted by her, desires her, even while he’s mistrustful of her and Sydney desires him right back. It seems Scepter is blackmailing her and Nate ends up not only watching her but protecting her. Will they be able to act on their desire for each other from afar, will Scepter kill her believing her a turncoat or will their desire turn into a love they can live by? All are distinct possibilities in this thriller.

Sydney is a strong heroine whose life has been characterized by loss, manipulation and betrayal but she is resilient and is fierce in protecting her own. Her character illustrates how little power or even any right over lives, bodies or money that women had in the Regency era. She’s also a knockout in a satin gown as Nate can attest! Nate is fierce himself as well as being hot. There are some nice steamy sexy times between the two!

Nate is strong and wonderfully protective as the days pass. He too has a tortured past that he’ll need to overcome before he can give himself to Sydney. He understands her, though, and shows that he empathizes because of what he’s been through. He’s not afraid to communicate that to her- through action and words.

Although this is part of the series I think one *could* read it as a standalone but it is much better as the fifth in the series. There are some revelations in this book that we’ve been waiting for earlier in the series. It just wouldn’t have the same impact as a standalone.

I received this ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Scepter, a revolutionary group with an unknown leader, is actively plotting to overthrow the British government. Working to stop Scepter is a select group of current and former soldiers (Lords of the Armory), including Captain Nathaniel Reed. Reed is tasked with determining whether Lady Rowland (Sydney) is a willing participant or a pawn in Scepter’s schemes. Sydney has been blackmailed into serving as a messenger for Scepter to ensure her illegitimate son’s safety. She lacks any knowledge of the group’s hierarchy, and is uninterested in learning any more out of fear for her son’s life.

Both Nate and Sydney have lost loved ones in the past, and are working at cross-purposes until Sydney is physically threatened when delivering one of Scepter’s messages. They begin to tentatively trust each to protect Sydney and her son, and learn that there is much more to each of them than is apparent at first glance.
Sydney and Nate are both admirable characters whose misgivings are understandable given each of their past histories.

The series seems to be moving toward the end so the espionage aspect of the plot felt like it was taking up more of the story. Like the previous book in the series, the pacing seemed slow to me, making it more work to continue reading. This was a good, but not great, entry in the series.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #Sourcebooks Casablanca for an advance copy to review.

As fond as I am of the Lords of the Armory series -- and I'm extremely fond! -- A Remarkable Rogue was my least favorite of the bunch. Nate and Sydney's backstories were big-time downers; there wasn't much joy to balance out the heaviness. It was way too easy to put this book down for days or weeks -- whereas Harrington's previous titles have kept me riveted and eager to read in one sitting.

Three-sentence summary: When a powerful, mysterious political organization blackmails baroness Sydney Rowland into taking action that leads to a man's death, she becomes a person of interest to the loyalists determined to take Scepter down. Captain Nate Reed sets out to investigate Sydney in hopes of learning more about the revolutionary group's leadership, but finds she's as much Scepter's victim as its puppet. Sydney and Nate must learn to trust one another with their secrets and their hearts if they're going to survive Scepter's nefarious plans -- and if they ever hope to find happiness after the trauma of their pasts.

There was a lot of uncomfortable, non-consensual edging in this book that made Nate seem a little skeezy. Both he and Sydney are so sad for 90% of the book that what sizzle there is gets doused repeatedly. Individually, Sydney and Nate are compelling, interesting characters -- I just didn't love their dynamic as a couple. Happy as I was to see them together in the end, I'll likely skip this book if I reread the series in the future.

This was exactly what I thought it would be, generally light-hearted, a little bit emotional and an overall good read. I've come to expect just that from Anna Harrington's work. This book was really easy to read and like most of Harrington's books, had a way of hooking you in and keeping you interested. Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to readers looking for a light and fluffy romance, with a little bit of spice. The chemistry between the main characters was off the charts!

I'm looking forward to reading many more by Anna Harrington!

Thank you to the publisher for kindly providing me with an ARC via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Captain Nate Reed was in the military, the Horse Guards. He was also a hero and had come home after the fight with Napolean. He had taken on a job for the home office. Someone was trying to assassinate both the prince regent and the Prime Minister. They were trying to cause a revolution in England and were called Scepter. Right now, he was following Lady Syndey Rowland, Baroness Rowland.

Syndey had had a rough life. She had fallen in love, but he died and then was forced to marry the Baron and they hated each other. She trusted no man. She had something to protect, and she was going to do just that.

I thought the sparks flying around those two were hot. They got along well, and the captain was going to protect her. There were a few twists and turns. But the story flowed smoothly, and it had a great pace. If you want an excellent read, you can always count on this author. I really enjoyed the book.

I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

4 Stars! Loved the hero, Nate, in this book. The heroine, Sydney, not so much. She annoyed the heck out of me and wasn’t as strong of a main female character as I like. This is the 5th book in the ‘Lords of the Armory’ series and can be read as a standalone. Blackmailing, kidnapping, sneaky snakes, organized crime known as Scepter, danger, and falling in love all wrapped up with a great HEA ending. Anna Harrington is always an entertaining read in my opinion. She tells a story like no one else can.

A great addition to the Lords of the Armory series! Sydney and Nate were perfectly matched and had a ton of chemistry. This book was also very emotional and I found myself actually tearing up a few times as these two broken people expressed their heartache and came to trust one another. My only criticism with the romance is that at times it got a little too sappy, especially toward the end. Besides that, this was a continuation of the ongoing Scepter plot from the previous books so while not 100% necessary to read in order, it definitely helps as this one picks up almost immediately after the events of the last one. I really enjoy how each book focuses on a different member of this group of noblemen and I think readers of historical romance will find a lot to like with these books. The characters are all well developed and likable. Some of the language used does tend to come across as anachronistic to me but that is not too much of a distraction. It seems there may be room for at least one more in this series. Will Clayton finally get his own book? Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley for this DRC in exchange for an honest review. Read and recommended! 4.5 stars.

A Remarkable Rogue is another exceptional and well written book in THE LORDS OF THE ARMORY series.

Widowed Lady Sydney Rowland would sacrifice everything to protect one person. After a loveless and cruel marriage to the older Lord Rowland, Sydney is determined to never let another man control her life. Captain Nathaniel Reed, a seasoned and highly decorated military officer, has built self-punishing walls around him. Both wear invisible armor to protect themselves and those they hold dear. Nate, steadfastly loyal to his country, puts duty first. The domestic terrorist organization Scepter, present in all four previous books, attempts to step up its brutal plan to assassinate the Prime Minister and Prince Regent and take over the country.

Thus, A Remarkable Rogue continues as book #5 in the excellent series THE LORDS OF THE ARMORY. Nate Reed and his half-brother, Alexander Sinclair – Earl of St. James (book #4, A Relentless Rake), have been tasked with secretly tracking down a lead on Scepter. The lead is Lady Rowland who may be an agent of Scepter. Captain Reed, wary and professional, corners Lady Sydney about her role with Scepter. He needs the truth, and she needs to keep it secret. While the physical attraction between the two is immediate, that does not bring down the walls. Instead, the story unfolds with political intrigue, physical risks, suspense, murder and kidnapping, backstories as needed, and characters slowly revealing their secrets, not just to each other but to the reader as well. The writer is superb at letting Sydney and Nate keep their secrets until they share them as trust, intimacy and love become real. The plot is well paced with opening scenes that immediately convey this is not a banter-filled, coy Regency story. Yet, the ability to allow the reader some lighter moments feels natural, such as with Robbie, a precocious and delightful child strutting about as a military major. The love story of two adults who know what they want and what they risk is perfect. Nate is no rogue, and Sydney is no coquettish lady. The love is palpable and mature.

From the first book (An Inconvenient Duke) of THE LORDS OF THE ARMORY series, I have been addicted to the series and pre-ordered each new book. I’ve envisioned the background sanctuary of The Armory, created in the first book by (General) Marcus Braddock, for the weary, often broken and traumatized, returning military men. A converted medieval castle, safe and private, is for them a place to heal and find support and comradery. A mainstay for each, The Armory is as much a character in the series as the men who enter the front door. I wanted to walk around it, touch the walls, feel the safety and its history. The perfect transition from the first three lead characters to a next level of connected veterans has been smooth and balanced. There is no reliance on easy reader affection by bringing back earlier, strong characters unless needed.

While A Remarkable Rogue could easily be read and enjoyed as a standalone story, reading the previous four books enriches the experience with the history of The Armory, the community of previous strong characters, as well as the events with the archenemy Scepter. Scepter has been hit, but perhaps not fatally. One more book, at least, please. After checking the writer’s website, I found an entry for the next book (A Problem Princess – Spring 2023), and my hope is that it is about Clayton.

I am thankful to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Anna Harrington for the opportunity to feed my THE LORDS OF THE ARMORY addiction and read this book early. My opinion is all my own. It was my pleasure to read A Remarkable Rogue.

What a phenominal book!
Some spoilers may be contained.
This was a book that was part of a series, but the reader would never know it. The author took care to bring the reader up to date within the first few pages of the story and not in a boring, rote manner, but as part of the story.
This story had me on the edge during the entire reading of it. Danger, and intrigue and mystery and romance and Regency parties, this book had all the bells and whistles, but it was not over done by any definition.
The hero is a soldier who has returned from the war in France and is employed as a spy. He is trying to get to the bottom of an organization that is plotting for Revolution in England. He has followed the woman he is to engage with and get the information to bring the organization down, but it is to remain a secret from the public.
The heroine is a widow with secrets from her past and she is being blackmailed and does not know who to trust. She takes a chance on our hero.
There were so many positives to this story and no negatives. The story lines all wove together in a clear, concise manner. The reader fully understood what was happening and did not have to re'read pages because there was too much verbalizing and the ideas were randomly placed. This was such a well w.ritten story. And the hero was only 3 years older than the heroine. I loved this book from start to finish. It definitely did not need other books to make sense of this one. I give it 100 stars! But the maximum is 5 and it is on my keeper shelf! Definitely make this a book to read this summer!

A Remarkable Rogue By Anna Harrington

Baroness Rowland is a very beautiful wealthy widow. Who the crown
suspected of treason by being a member of a specter group who are trying to overthrow the crown and government by assassinating the prince regent and prime minister. Captain Nathaniel Reed is a decorated war hero and spy trying to find out who are the leaders of Specter and sent to investigate/arrest Sydney Rowland.

This a book full of intrigue, suspense and romance and many interesting characters.

This is a very fast flowing story that draws you in from the first page to last with its many and turns. Although this book is the last book of a series it is a very exciting read as a stand-alone and does not detract if you have not read the previous books.

Extremely enjoyable and excellent read.4.5/5

So, first of all, I love spies and intrigue. So I was very excited about this book. I also really like the author’s writing style. She has somehow found the sweet spot of just enough detail and description so that you can absolutely imagine what’s going on without being bored by it or tempted to skip ahead. Now that is impressive writing. She’s a new author for me and I took time to read the other books in the series before I embarked on this. And then right in the middle, Covid knocked me flat for a couple weeks, so I am catching up with my reviews and wanted to bring this one to the top of my list because it is such a fun book. And a great series.

Anyway this is about Nate, who we met briefly the previous book, and Sydney. You definitely get things about previous characters in the series, including Olivia and Sinclair/St. James from A Relentless Rake, so that’s fun. But we haven’t had a lot of focus on Nate before so this is delightful

Anyway, short version is she being blackmailed, she’s trying to take care of her child, and both their lives are in danger . . . and if that doesn’t make for a good book, I don’t know what does. The villain is Scepter, who we have learned much about in the other books.

Nate is a great character. I was totally in love with him. Sydney was also a good character. I like that she wasn't a wishy-washy female character. She was strong and logical, in spite of the restrictions on all women at the time.

This was a fun book and an easy, interesting read. I like all Anna Harrington's books, and find her characters intriguing. Definitely worth a read. And that cover is amazing, by the way--A+.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my second Anna Harrington and she’s moving up on my super official ‘HR auto read authors list’. If you like high stakes and swoon worthy dramatics - this is for you. We kinda hit it all - explosives, kidnapping, blackmail, a few attempted murders, etc, etc.

While the action was packed - it didn’t take away from Nate and Sydney’s chemistry and I really liked their relationship unfolding and learning to trust each other.
