LOVED THE HERO BUT THE HEROINE DIDN'T THRILL ME

This is a very clear 3 stars book for me. There were elements that I adored, and elements that didn't really work for me. But overall I was entertained throughout and enjoyed the experience.

👍 What I Liked 👍

Nate: I could almost fall in love with Nate myself. He was sweet, attentive, protective and brave. He felt like a true character and I instantly connected with him and wanted what was best for him. I liked his evolution throughout the story.

Plot: Throughout this series Sceptre has been a constant threat. But in this book I felt like we got even more Sceptre than before. We got closer to the heart of the operation, which was very enlightening and fascinating. I can't really figure out if this was to be the end of the series, but if it is, I would be okay with that based on the plot of this book.

Smut: Maybe it was just me, but I felt like Harrington gave us a lot more smut in this book than in the previous ones. And it was hot. And steamy. And I liked it.

👎 What I Disliked 👎

Sydney: Sadly, though Nate was a star for me, Sydney never really got under my skin. I couldn't really connect with her at all. She felt a bit bland to be honest.

Flow: There were some times when I felt like the flow of the book was disturbed by some random scenes, that (for me) felt thrown into the mix without context or prelude. It messed the flow up for me and made me retrace my steps a couple of times to try and figure out, if I missed something along the way. In an otherwise really good book plot-wise this was a bit of a bummer.

This is the last book in the series and what a wonderful read. As usual, the characters were wonderfully written with a lot of warmth and feeling. This book was full of action, suspicion, and romance. There were a lot of backstories told throughout the book which adds an interesting addition to the story. There was a fair bit of sex that this reviewer skipped as always and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book. This author knows how to write a good romance that keeps you turning the page. I received this as an ARC and freely give my review.

"A Remarkable Rogue" is the fifth book in the Lords of Armory series. This plot is packed full of drama, romance, and suspense. Having not read the other books didn't matter a bit and it can easily be read as a stand-alone.

Nathaniel is trying to find a revolutionary group who want to overthrow the government. Sydney is a suspect which puts her in Nathaniel's path. The only problem is he never wanted to be drawn to her in spite of having to investigate her. She is keeping secrets, including a young son who she'll protect at any cost. She eventually comes in contact with the group Nathaniel is investigating and turns to him for help.

I just reviewed A Remarkable Rogue by Anna Harrington. #NetGalley

thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc!

i absolutely loved this historical romance! it had me hooked from the beginning, and i binge-read it in one sitting. it was super fast-paced and the plot was interesting; the romance was also pretty well done, and the characters and their emotions seemed overall pretty realistic. the characters did feel a bit disconnected and difficult to connect with, but i find that that’s pretty easy to look past in certain romances; the plot was definitely enough to keep me invested! i also really enjoyed the author’s writing style. everything flowed well together, and it was very easy to read. overall, this was a really enjoyable, fast-paced historical romance :)

A Remarkable Rogue is part of the Lords of the Armory series by Anna Harrington. Each book, including a Remarkable Rogue, can stand alone but the overarching plot about Scepter continues through the entire series. A Remarkable Rogue focuses on the story of Captain Nate Reed and the woman he believes is a double agent for Scepter, Lady Sydney Rowland. I haven’t read all the books in the series, just this one and the one before it (A Relentless Rake) but I am able to follow the story along just fine. These books are perfect for fans regency-type romances!

The way the author used the conversation between Agnes and Nate to tell Sydney’s backstory was great—lots of good background information by way of showing not telling. I appreciate that whole scene very much!

Sydney and Nate are both guarded individuals with secrets and guilt of their own. I enjoyed the way the both opened up to one another and gained trust organically and genuinely.

There is some spice in this book, a happily ever after, and intrigue that wraps itself up nicely. This was a 4/5 for me and I would recommend it and any other by Anna Harrington!

This book is the 5th in the series and is about Sydney is trying to get her son back no matter what. Captain Nathaniel is trying to caught her but see’s that she is innocent and decides to help her. This story has several twists which was good. I did enjoy the book. Probably not my favorite of the series but if there is another book I will read it.

Ms Anna Harrington hits it out of the park with this novel. Specter is messing with the wrong woman this time, bent on protecting her son and as they say, “ Mama bear will protect her cub at all costs!” I loved how both the hero and heroine have issues that are addressed and how they help each other to their HEA. I loved little Robbie and his exuberance for all things military! The writing is superb and descriptive enough without being bogged down in details. The escape scene was priceless and I felt like I was there watching it unfold. The ending is a bit of a surprise as to who and why Specter is, but a satisfying finish! Loved it!

The next installment of Anna Harrington's Lords of the Armory series is a good one that is worth a read even if it drags a little bit at times.

Sydney and Nate meet when Nate, an army captain working for the Armory, insinuates himself in her life in an attempt to either get information about the revolutionary group Scepter or to arrest her for treason. He figures out pretty quickly that she's a victim not a traitor, but she's frustratingly mum about what she knows. Her reasons are good: She's protecting her secret son from the organization.

I liked both Sydney and Nate, though I was a little confused by their respective histories. Well, not confused as much as unsure. Both had loved and lost, which plays a big part in their slow crawl towards a healthy relationship. I think it's mostly that we're told how much they loved the people in their pasts, but we are mostly just told they loved them. It didn't seem demonstrated, at least not enough for me to understand why Nate was clinging so hard to his wife's memory.

Anyway, there's clearly both passion and respect between them, so the roadblocks seemed a little forced. I would have preferred the plot focus more on Scepter drama; it's not until later in the book that we see much action there. I will confess that I forget a lot the Scepter thread that runs through all five in the series (so far), and I kinda just want it to resolve.

Aside from all this, I enjoyed this novel. Nate is a great hero who manages to be strong yet gentle, and Sydney is a woman who can take care of herself. You'll definitely find yourself rooting for their HEA.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!

my thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is part of a series but can easily be read as a stand-alone--I've only read the book previous to this.

This was an entertaining histrom, set against a backdrop of intrigue, political unrest, domestic terrorism, blackmail and kidnapping! Phew, that's a lot going on but it worked and all the story lines coalesced and everything was wrapped up by the end.

Nathan Reed is part of an undercover team endeavouring to identify and thwart the members of Sceptre, a shady domestic terrorism outfit that is bent on assassinating the Prime Minister and Prince Regent. He's got some leads but nothing concrete. Baroness Sydney Rowland is enmeshed in the plot but he can't get a handle on how or why.

The story unfolds as Nate shadows Sydney to various venues in an attempt to discover her connection. He realises she's not knowingly a part of Sceptre, but is being used by them because she has some significant secrets of her own she wants to keep buried.

I won't detail her back story to avoid spoilers but she's had a rough go of it and been treated very poorly along the way. She has what she believes are very valid reasons for her cooperation with her unknown blackmailers and she is determined to protect the person at the center of her secret. This makes it frustrating for Nate, as he cannot get her to divulge much at all. So he keeps at it, and keeps following her.

He has his own secrets as well..

The chemistry between Sydney and Nate is palpable. It was a bit of insta-lust but it works in the compressed time frame of the story.

Little by little they open up to each other and learn to trust each other and let themselves explore intimacy together in successively steamier encounters.

Overall the plot is well paced, the story interesting, and the chemistry good.

Solidly entertaining read.

I read the last book in this series and struggled to respect the hero, but I was intrigued by his half brother Captain Nathan Reed so I thought I would give this installment a try. The fast paced treason, blackmail, secret son plot were enjoyable, even if the romance was too insta-lust for me. If you’re here for the espionage, it’s best to read the previous books, particularly number 4.

In 1817, Nate is trying to learn how much the baroness Lady Sydney Roland knows about the Scepter’s assassination plot against the prince regent and prime minister. He still mourns his late wife and is angry about being an illegitimate son.

Sydney isn’t with Scepter, but she is in the middle of a blackmail plot. Her only goal is to protect her hidden illegitimate son and move on after being widowed by her manipulating husband.

Not sure about the title because Reed isn’t a rogue at all. Nate is coping with insecurities and resentment with being illegitimate, but I had issues with this hero just like in the previous book. He lectures Sydney on how she needs to be a mother to her to her illegitimate child without acknowledging the sacrifices she made for him. He’s not as judgmental as the last hero, but even with the spy plot maybe this series is a pass for me.

I found the previous book a sweet and easy read, and the first chapter of the second one had a witty dialogue to get my attention so I looked forward to reading the full book but it didn’t live up my expectations. Everything happens too fast: falling in love after 2 meetings, having sex already… so where to go from there? I love a build up and the character development but here the story was quite flat and superficial. The side story of the blackmail, treason and secret child didn’t hold my attention, and I have skipped pages just to get to the end. It says that the author is an award winning writer but I just don’t see it. The writing is nice but it doesn’t seem that a lot of effort was put in writing this book. I personally prefer quality over quantity.

Another wonderful book in this series from Anna Harrington! I love the way she tells a story and weaves such emotion between her characters. Nate and Sydney have a chemistry that comes alive in their story of intrigue and broken hearts. Fast paced and suspenseful, too. An enjoyable read from cover to cover!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Anna Harrington. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is Book 5 in the Lords of Armory series. I have only just started the series with book 4, but I am loving it and will definitely go back and read the ones that I have missed. The story is filled with suspense, drama, and romance and pulled me in right from the start and kept my interest all the way through. Nathaniel is in search of a revolutionary group trying to overthrow the government. Sydney is a suspect and Nathaniel is tasked with investigating her. He never expected to be so captivated by her. Sydney is keeping a secrets, one of them being a young son she desperately wants to protect, and she finds herself tangled up with the very revolutionary group Nathaniel is looking for. He soon learns she is innocent, and despite his attraction to her, her secrets force him to keep his distance. However, when Sydney asks him for help, he cannot deny her and will do anything to protect her.
Although this can be read as a standalone and the story comes to a satisfying conclusion at the end, the series continues with a larger plotline, and you can be sure I will be following it right till the end. I enjoyed reading Nathaniel and Sydney's story, they had such a great connection and chemistry, and I was completely drawn into their story. A wonderful addition to the series, and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This series just didn't work for me. I wanted to love it and had a couple of book friends highly recommend, but I just struggled getting invested in the characters and the story. Thank you for letting me try!

I picked up this series at the recommendation of a friend that knew I was hooked on Bridgerton and couldn't get enough.

I was thrilled to receive this ARC for the next instalment in the series!

Captain Nathaniel Reed is on the hunt for Scepter, an underground organization trying to overthrow the government, and he has suspicions that Sydney may be involved. The politics of a secret organization, and the question of ethics, is a kind of steam on its own for me as a reader! But there is actual steam and chemistry between Nate and Sydney filled with longing, don't you worry.

What I appreciate about the Lords of the Armory series is that each book can stand on its own, though I definitely recommend reading the entire series, the characters are well developed in their dedicated novels which gives you the opportunity to really dive deep into the protagonists as the spy plot unravels.

I enjoyed Sydney as a character, especially someone of strength, her motivations are rooted in protecting those she cares about and survival.

An easy, enjoyable historical romance that keeps you flipping the pages.

Enjoyed this one! Nathaniel Reed kind of reminds me of one of Grace Burrowes heroes - I think St. Just in the Windham series. So I liked him immediately :)

Sydney had also appeared in the previous book in this series so it was good to get a resolution to the mystery and understand what was motivating her.

Nice, quick read.

This was a page turner! I could not stop reading, the character development is amazing and your heart just breaks for the terrible past of both characters. I was a little lost at the beginning with some of the background story but then I realized I missed other books in the series. Will now be reading them all.

I've wanted to know what was going on with Sydney since her involvement in Relentless Rake because it's clear that there is more going on with her than meets the eye. She and Nate have such great chemistry as characters right from their first interaction. Watching their romance and partnership evolve throughout the story was really entertaining. He helps her gain the courage to be a mother to her son and she helps him see that his father's family is not his enemy and he should give them a chance. The mystery surrounding Sceptor reached a somewhat unexpected but very satisfying ending. Overall, this is a great novel on its own but also a great conclusion to the series. I can't wait to see what Anna Harrington comes out with next!

*Received a copy for review.*
Nate is determined to find the head of scepter and cut it off. He’s tired of chasing shadows and wants this secretive business done.
Baroness Sydney Rowland is determined to do as her blackmailer demands to protect her son.
These two clash from the start. Nate expects Sydney to either be a black widow seeking to damn men or a woman who will be excited for his assistance. She is neither.
I love a story with experienced characters. Both have lived and lost and have no desire to give in to anyone. This book was an easy read with interesting characters.

A Remarkable Rogue is the fifth book in the Lords of the Armory series, and it’s a suspenseful historical romance! Captain Nathaniel Reed is searching for the leaders of Scepter, a revolutionary group eager to overthrow the government, and he believes Sydney is involved. Tasked with investigating Sydney, Nate doesn’t expect to be drawn to the mysterious woman, but when she asks for his help, he can’t refuse her. Can Sydney help Nate take down Scepter, and can Nate protect Sydney before it’s too late?

Anna Harrington is such a fantastic storyteller, and it’s easy to fall back into this immersive world of espionage and romance. It’s such a romantic and intriguing series, and I loved Sydney and Nate’s story! They are both well-developed and interesting protagonists, and Sydney and Nate both go on emotional and physical journeys, and both have suffered so much in their lives. They’re definitely the kind of characters you want to root for, especially when contrasted with the vile antagonists who stand in the way of their happiness.

Of course, my favorite part of the story is the swoon-worthy enemies-to-lovers romance. Sydney and Nate have amazing chemistry, and their growing feelings for each other are fantastic. You can feel their connection from their very first meeting, and that spark only grows as the story progresses. Sydney and Nate face many obstacles, including Scepter, secrets, lies, and more. Plus, Sydney’s terrified of losing her independence and giving her life over to a man, and she has someone else to protect. Nate also doesn’t want to marry. They are slow to trust each other, and burdened by their respective pasts, they have a lot to work through. Past wounds still need a bit of healing when this pair first meets. However, the more they fall for each other and care for each other, the more they rethink their feelings about commitment and marriage. Their feelings prove stronger than all the conflicts that stand in their way. Like the other relationships in the series, this relationship is filled with chemistry and longing, and I was totally there for it!

I really enjoyed this story and the series as a whole. It’s exciting and intriguing, and the characters and romance is fantastic! I would definitely recommend the book to readers that enjoy historical romance or romantic suspense. Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
