Simple illustrations in primary colors compliment this story on two friends named Alex and all that they have in common and all that they don't. No matter how big their differences their friendship endures.

This book portrays both Alexes as non-binary. Their activities are non-gendered and is a great book to introduce the concept of gender, and also have a book that is focused purely on what is on the page. Friendship. What is unique about this book is how it can be used in multiple ways for many different ages.

A must have for your library's picture book collection.

A perfect introduction of gender neutrality to young children. Alex and Alex focuses on the interests and friendship between two kids without commenting on ideas of gender. This is done so seamlessly that it could go unnoticed on the first read, which I think is a strength of the book. It's a great example of how presenting these ideas should feel natural, just as they should be in real life. It also highlights how to tolerate differences, another important lesson. I'd happily recommend this book to young readers/parents.
